Visited Irazu for the 1st time yesterday 3.18.21. I had no idea there was a Costa Rican restaurant in the Chicago area and when I found out, I couldn't get there fast enough. (I don't live in Chicago, I live 2 1/2 away) Let me just say; it was home away from home. Food and service was excellent! Henry is great, he recommended the tamarindo with pineapple juoce and it was delicious. My mom, daughter, and I all had un casado..which also was delicious. I am very happy to have found this place, being Costa Rican myself I know the flavor and this is as close as it gets to home. Irazu has gained 3 returning customers for sure! When you're in the Chicago area Irazu is a must and don't forget to pick up a t-shirt while you're at it.. Saludos desde Port Byron, IL👋🏽. #3Generations #Pura Vida #Irazu #CostaRica 🇨🇷💙❤

Pepito sandwich with steak was excellent and the shrimp ceviche is also very good and comes as a nice sized order for the price. The oatmeal shake is a really nice and unique accompaniment.

Blue zone living to 100+ with delicious food and BYOB. Best green salsa ever. Outstanding Oatmeal and banana shake. Knowledgeable service with on target recommendations on traditional Costa Rican dishes. Alchemist chef delivers an exquisite mix of flavors. Great value. Simple colorful decor

Since I was close by I decided to stop by this restaurant they didn't have tables available but they did have space by the window. The space by the window you seat side by side and face out and there was space between people so it was a good option. The server did come out with chips and suggested different options and I ordered. I think it took longer than I expected to get the food so consider that. Once the food arrived, it was good, Pepito sandwich was good as well as the plantains, and the Puerto smoothie was refreshing. I think next time I'll take longer to try different dishes and decide what's best. There is paid parking in front, don't forget to pay, I saw people getting tickets. It might take long to get a table and food.

Had not been here in over 15 years because they were cash only forever and never carry cash! I'm so glad we went back. The food was great, especially the skirt steak sandwich and shrimp/whitefish ceviche. Very friendly service. We will certainly be back.

We enjoyed the Casado with skirt steak, and sweet plantain was very delicious! The whitefish ceviche didn’t fully live up to our expectation (felt to be on the blander side) but was still decent. The atmosphere here was open and lively with lots of street view seats that are perfect for enjoying the summer weather.

Amazing food, first time trying. Excellent catering order. Skirt steak, pork, rice beans, plantains, and empanadas were our favorite. Everything came with spectacular sauces, the customer service from Owner Henry was exceptional. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu.

Enjoyed this place! Tried the Casado and empanadas. Friendly staff, I like how they can open all their windows when the weather is nice. Would recommend and come back to try a few more dishes!

Best Costa Rican good in the US. Lived in the New York/New Jersey area for a few years and nothing like this. First time back in 4 years and did not disappoint! Gotta get the Yuca fries and the Guanabana smoothie! And of course the Gallo Pinto and Plátanos Maduros Fritos!

Freshly made food . The service was nice timing was also great. There’s no alcohol service but you can bring your own bottle for a Pina cola and 2 other flavors that they can give you to mix in a pitcher.

A favorite for years. Good for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. I usually get the shrimp ceviche and the casado entree, chicken or veggie, both healthy choices. The steak is also good. Menu could have more variety, and maybe more gluten-free options. I don’t eat burritos or sandwiches so can’t comment on those, but I’m sure they’re good. The restaurant setting itself is casual and fairly basic.

This is a small slice of Costa Rica transported to Chicago. The food is amazing and fresh. I don't think you could go wrong with anything on the menu. They do not serve alcohol but allow you to bring your own bottle of wine or liquor. They do offer drink mixers. My absolute favorite place to eat in Chicago.

I have wanted to try this place for a while now. I placed an online order to go for the Skirt steak Casado and a skirt steak burrito for my Wife. The skirt steak was very tender and seasoned to perfection. The salad included slices of beets, radishes, cucumbers and tomatoes. The plantains were awesome. My only disappointment was that the Gallo pinto was a little dry to me.

Great food that’s well worth the price! The portion sizes are really good. The flavours were amazing. Order the empanadas, and whatever you do, make sure you get a side of the plantain. I had the vegetable casado and fully enjoyed my meal. My server was attentive, my food came pretty quickly, and the music was good. An all round wonderful experience.

As fellow Ticos visiting from out of state, we made a required stop at a Costa Rican restaurant. It was the best decision we ever made for food in Chicago. They gave us a free side of black beans with our chips for coming in with an Imperial shirt! We had the mixed ceviche and patacones for appetizers, might be the best ceviche I’ve had in the city. The patacones were incredibly filling as well! We shared an entrée of the Tilapia Casado, which was the tenderest fish I’ve ever eaten! We both drank an Iced Horchata coffee which I’ve had many of, the best by far! The food was so amazing that we took an order of empanadas to go! Long story short, it’s a delicious and authentic stop owned by really nice people and I will recommend it to anyone and everyone!

Irazu has my favorite sandwich on the face of the earth, the Cerdas pork chop. A perfect sando: juicy pork, cheese, onion, pepper, and garlic aoili. I often find myself daydreaming about the “Perfect Lunch” I had there one beautiful summer Saturday, windows open at the peninsular counter seats, catching the cross breeze, eating my favorite sandwich with a cold Coke next to the woman I love. Can’t beat this place.

Amazing! It was perfect for my wife and I who aren't too fancy but enjoyed a nice dinner. Irazu was exactly what we were looking for. It has a special meaning for us for our anniversary since we went to Costa Rica for our honeymoon.

I had the pork and horchata cafe and let me tell you guys, I'm happy I stopped by. The sweet plantains were so good I had to take an order to go. The porkchops were huge!! I'd suggest eating one and taking the other home for a later snack cause you might be very full.

This place is a gem in the Bucktown neighborhood. The service is excellent, attentive, fun. The shakes are incredible—never had anything like it—and alone are worth dropping by for. But the food is also really special, authentic, and delicious. There’s a great ambience in the place, and it’s a celebration of cultural and culinary experience. Very enjoyable. Highly recommend!

Food was delicious. Great portion sizes. Fast service too. Free chips as an appetizer. And BYOB is the icing on the cake.

Service and food was good. I may be a bit jaded having just come back from a 2 week trip to Costa Rica, hence the 4 stars, but it may have gotten 5 otherwise. 🤷🏾‍♀️ 😆

Get a shake, don’t get the chorizo burrito (too much paprika). Everything else we ate (steak Plato) was phenomenal.

You will literally never find a restaurant more consistent in both excellent quality food and super friendly staff. One time I forgot cash so I was a couple dollars short and the owner literally told me it's alright and to just bring the difference in next time, no rush. He didn't even know me. Try the pepito sandwich and the oatmeal shakes! But literally everything on the menu is delicious.

Don't get the salad unless you absolutely love cabbage or specifically request spring greens. And the dressing was off. Loved it the last time I was here. Everything else was good or ok.

Omg. It’s literally so good! Loved their salsa and the green sauce comes with empanadas. The Casado was super good. The only thing I would say it’s the steak it’s s it too greasy. But I mean, aren’t they all greasy? Over all 10/10 recommended

One of the best restaurants in Chicago! Costa Rican food is my favorite and I will gladly make the trip from the Southside to come here. Get the chicken Casado, you won’t be disappointed!

We found this restaurant on Google when in Chicago. We live in Costa Rica and had two ticos with us. The food was amazing and my two tico friends were so excited. The service was great and the staff friendly. I highly recommend it for a true Costa Rica meal.
