Marlowes Shopping Centre is somewhat depleted with empty units and discount stores amongst the few more upmarket shops. However, it undoubtedly deserves 5 stars as it is home to the Electric Umbrella music shop which is the best shop in the world. This fantastic charity's latest venture is the refurbishment and sale of donated musical instruments. Amongst the plethora of very reasonably prices guitars etc. you will find the weird and wonderful, and the stock is constantly changing. Last week there was a harp and a sitar in the window. All the proceeds go to support the work to support young people with special needs to access and perform live music and is doing fantastic work locally and further afield via Zoom.

First time I went most shops were closed despite the centre being officially open. ATM swallowed my card which didn’t help the overall experience either! Second time was a Saturday afternoon, it was busy but ok. Friendliest people were the kiosk vendors, and had a good smoothie at the doughnut place in the middle. Didn’t like: Atmosphere at bit impaired by somewhat vocal gangs of teenagers hanging out- Didn’t cause me any trouble personally, but the language was offensive. Security staff seemed overwhelmed by the situation although they were clearly trying their best- Seems to be a bit of an issue in general in Hemel Hempstead from my recent (visiting) experience. On the plus side: Some thoughtful design with the natural light illuminating the large seating area; several regular seating areas (when not monopolised by teenagers!) make this a good place to shop if you have to sit down frequently - also some useful shops like Wilco, M&S etc. (Though you can reach that one from the high street - & if you’re wanting to visit the Marlowes, I would perhaps advise a visit during school hours ;)

The Marlow's is always busy and lively. And slowly the mall is recovering. I believe they are building a cinema 🎥 in itl. It was very lively today within the mall. I like the Lion book club book shop, I bought a couple more biographies today. Then I popped in the art gallery and browsed the work of local artists. If you do art popping in the gallery would be highly recommended. Well recommended!!! And the weather was really good today (12/3/22)

I love the family centre provided in the heart of the shopping centre it makes the day here much easier with children. There is a fair selection of shops to browse through and a few choices for places to grab a bite.

The Marlowes is a great place to go. Lots of options for shops, pharmacy, post office, beside a nice atmosphere as walk around there.

Decent enough place with good facilities. Wilko has closed down so it's empty in one part but still has some good shops.

Very clean, spacious shopping centre, helpful staff at customers services and security staff are in the background , There are plenty of seats inside to sit down at whilst shopping , There is a new car parking system that works alot better without using a ticket, Some will say the opposite however I think it has much approved the car parking system with APNR recognition, There are you free days on Thursdays between certain days , There is a good atmosphere, good lifts , some out of action lifts. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be much heating available in the shopping centre and generally is quite cold particularly this time of year.Wrap up warm 🧤🧣 Themed ideas are in the centre and wildlife interests 😁 Update: For Blue badge holders blue badge drivers NOW have to pay (22/11/23) , No discounts are available, only on selected days within the car park

Some decent places to eat with attractive interiors. Arcade machines and play area for kids. Nice second hand bookshop , well stocked. And my personal highlight - The Entertainer toyshop 🥇

A few shops, Lyon’s is the best as it has loads of books for only a pound each! However the let down is that they don’t turn the heating on at all!!! It’s freezing !

More shops or eating places would be good. Why can't we have something for the older generation like bingo theatre etc

  • 5/5 Me R. 1 year ago on Google
It's a clean place, with plenty of everything and very nice to visit even though many good shops have disappeared over the time. It's a YES for me !!!

  • 5/5 Candi P. 1 year ago on Google
Plenty of shops to choose from, plenty of seating available and spacious. Lovely cafes inside the centre and recommend brunch to have a bite to eat.

  • 4/5 Dawn Stewart T. 1 year ago on Google
Really good as it has a little play area inside. Some nice shops but could do with more variation but on the whole nice little shopping area.

Fantastic shopping centre. I was surprised at how many stores there were. Easy car park, too.

  • 2/5 Paul S. 9 months ago on Google
It's a shopping mall that, in common with the vast majority of shopping centres in the UK, has seen better times & is obviously struggling for tenants - it is clean & tidy & felt safe. We visited for 1 specific reason & there is no other reason for us to be there. Car park is strange & definitely from a bygone era, although did the job! ANPR did not recognise our number plate so we had an issue paying for parking - if I get a penalty type charge I will be incredibly unhappy!!!

Local shopping centre. The parent and child parking is brilliant. The parent and child facilities are great. We also love the softplay area.

  • 4/5 Sharon J. 1 year ago on Google
There aren't as many shops as there used to be and not so much variety of shops it's always kept clean and tidy also the amount of lifts out of service is quite high

I love near hemel Hempstead I try avoid shopping here only get esstestinals or whatever nesserary their no clothes shoos part from new look which sells same stuff in sale watch Yr flooring inside is brien crwsm needs update been there like 50 yrs only cheap savers inside and cheap shops most closed pound land inside wilko a bag shop & m&s never see busy in there rest is foid cafes which cost alot for no reason ppl don't want eat in dead place it's got nothing why don't they just put a bowling alley in it or cinema something for the kids an arcade room just because there's no optuinity for kids or young adults for work nothing they just paid for flowers a water splash in town don't think that cost £1 million as they said really!.. Towns just a rubbish hole compared to others I go Watford or else whet e even that's bad now! High Street shops need change or just become an antisocial run down place with ppl being miserable it's just lost it.

Not sure anyone is charge of the marlowes anymore cause its just failing they are driving prices up for units and pushing clients out as a result they would rather have empty lots caused by greed and on top of that they dont even control their car park anymore some useless app does who are kicking clients off the tennant parking rates if they are on the outside part of town just dissappinted the direction our town centre is headed might be time for a buyout by someone who can make a difference

  • 5/5 Ivan A. 9 months ago on Google
Big, spacious, filled with your normal range of high street brands, a few unique shops also. Not a far walk from town.

  • 2/5 Marina G. 9 months ago on Google
Not many shops and a the minute you walk in you feel the super heavy smell from the food places which is the main thing that puts ne off. However the play area and baby change/feed facilities are quite nice.

  • 1/5 Maria W. 11 months ago on Google
Absolutely depressing. Half the shops are vacant, most of the security guards seem to do nothing when needed. It's totally boring and has zero atmosphere. There's no character. There is no decent play area for children apart from a small part of the mall with a slide and a boring fox to climb on. When an announcement is made by management you can't hear it properly. To many gangs of teenagers causing trouble.

  • 3/5 Russell A. 1 year ago on Google
Busy pedestrian mall good range of shoes. More charity shops than you could shake a stick at. Great umbrella music shop and 2nd hand bookshop. The whole mall could do with more seating.

  • 5/5 Dreamscope63 8 months ago on Google
I've been coming here for years, I used to live in Hemel 20 years ago and there were far more shops in here back then. As you go in one entrance you have to walk almost to the back before funding a shop as most are gone and boarded up. Very disappointing now

  • 3/5 Rick W. 7 months ago on Google
Average shopping centre. Some shops that sell rubbish but can be expected in the area. Some good shops though which make up for it and the parking there is very easy to navigate.

  • 3/5 Jo H. 7 months ago on Google
Could be better. Shops are closing down and shelves are not well stocked. Unable to get certain items.

  • 5/5 Bill R. 6 months ago on Google
Not a huge fan of shopping, but if you are, they've got everything! Nice clean indoor/outdoor mall with fountains, a large play area for children, food stands, stores and restaurants.

  • 1/5 Matt M. 6 months ago on Google
This place is dead.. lots of boarded up shops and empty spaces.. no vibe, the toilets are awfull and the hole place has a bad smell. It's verry stuffy and verry hot in parts. All in all rather run down and in need of some serious refitting and money spending on the place

  • 3/5 Sarah F. 6 months ago on Google
It's turning into a ghost mall. The play part for kids is nice, and they often put activities on for children over the holidays, but it's a real shame to see so many empty retail units.

I was very upset seeing how run down Marlowes has become. No nice big shops any more and plenty of empty ones.such a shame knowing that Hemel Hempstead was such a thriving new town. Where has our town gone.

  • 2/5 Doc S. 4 months ago on Google
Great if you like coffee and cafés, hope we may see more shops appearing if the rates drop, as one by one they close, not much here now really, which is a shame as it was a good shopping centre years ago.

  • 4/5 Andrés T. 6 months ago on Google
Nice local shopping centre. Not a big one, though. Easy to park. On Sundays, it's just £1 for the day. You can also find some cafés and shops outside.

Brunch Cafe very good and love their warmed apple crumble muffin. Used their loyalty card and got free coffee

  • 5/5 Andy W. 7 months ago on Google
What more could you want. An absolute abundance of pawn shops, betting venues, and charity stores. The number one flag ship Wilkos is about to close so hopefully we'll also hit 10 vape outlets too.

  • 4/5 Sharon S. 2 years ago on Google
Not a bad little arcade. It's no Westfield or Brentcross but not bad for its size. It could do with a bigger variety of shops, I've heard rumours it was expanding, but no sign of this yet.

  • 1/5 CLIVED 1 year ago on Google
Centre is small not many stores, toiletries or food, not much happening at all. Shame really as space is available to do so much more. Embarrassing

Good for a browsing around and a half day visit, weather was warm ,sat out eating our lunch and listening to a very good Street busker

  • 2/5 Luke G. 2 years ago on Google
A shadow of its formal self, the Marlow's is heavily under invested, with many shops closed down, lifts regularly out of order. What remains is not much more than pound shops and dining.

  • 2/5 Marco G. 1 year ago on Google
If it hadn't been for the 2 staff who helped me get to my car, this would have been a 0 star review! If you've never been there, be aware that you need your ticket with you to pay before you get back to your car. Not enough disabled parking spaces.

  • 5/5 Sabbi G. 2 years ago on Google
The local shopping mall never disappoint.Always innovative, clean and welcoming, Al fresco dining, variety of shops, activities, and an Art gallery. Conveniently park here at a good price and enjoy your shopping. From sports brands to convenient stores and many more.

  • 3/5 Nathan M. 2 years ago on Google
Typical shopping centre, not much to say, limited shops, mainly smaller groups or independents, lots of cafes and small shops, only a few major stores (Sports Direct, Next, M&S, JD) a few closed units. Great changing facilities for parent with young kids, needs some better stores inside and/or some better leisure options

  • 4/5 Nour e. 2 years ago on Google
A good variety of shops, easy to navigate. Big car park but especially crowded on weekends

  • 4/5 RealTy R. 2 years ago on Google
Nice, spacious, calm and clean place. Ample of pay car parking space. Unfortunately, due COVID-19, found lot of outlets shut down.

  • 4/5 justin z. 4 years ago on Google
Good parking bays, helpful security staff and a valet service there if you need your car cleaned, downside the parking isn't cheap, Sunday the best day to visit.

Came to Marlowes shopping centre 🏬 for the first time, really liked it on first impression! The parking charges is reasonable and the place is very lively give me a real good vibe.. I wish I had left home early I arrived about 2pm and with it being Saturday I noticed most of the shops were getting ready to close at 4pm so I would bare that in mind if going on a weekend! But I would like to go back soon but a little earlier so I could have a nice look around!

  • 1/5 Oli R. 2 years ago on Google
Unbelievably rude security/intercom staff. With only one lift in use, you can be waiting 10+ minutes to get to the carpark, at which point your ticket is no longer valid and have to pay additional. Ring the intercom for support, for a lady to be erupt and rude. I understand everyone can have a bad day, but don’t have someone in a customer care role, if they are not going to be supportive and down right rude!

If your looking for mens clothing I really would not bother. If you wanted household good then maybe the place to visit. The town has a long way to go .

  • 4/5 Ashley R. 2 years ago on Google
It's a very traditional shopping centre but very quiet on the consumer fronts with many empty stores

  • 2/5 Charlotte H. 2 years ago on Google
This used to be a fantastic shopping centre but has now deteriorated so much over the years. Pretty sure at least half of the shops are closed. Very little variety compared to what we used to have. Better off going to a neighbouring town for shopping

  • 1/5 Debbie C. 2 years ago on Google
The most uninspiring shopping town ever! Grey dirty concrete covered in chewing gum!The Mall inside is OK. Good toilet facilities and cafe. Lots of closed up shops. However..... the Water Gardens are lovely.... so Why don't the designers bring that style of garden actually into the shopping precinct?.... . It would improve it 100%

  • 1/5 Colette F. 2 years ago on Google
A waste of a great shopping space. Otherocal towns have Zara, Next, River Island etc. The Marlowes has a cheap fruit and veg shop. Rubbish and an insult to the residents of Hemel Hempstead, the most populated town in Hertfordshire.

  • 4/5 Eddie H. 1 year ago on Google
Well spaced out shopping centre, outside seemed to offer more chains that you would generally shop at.
