First of all, great beds! Really comfy and staff was really nice. Our stay was only ok though, which isn't entirely your fault. As we arrived late at night, one of the guys brought us to our dorm and there was a girl sitting on the (then my friends) bed. There were bloody stains on the sheets which we then had exchanged. The people who were with us in the dorm were really nasty. They never flushed the toilet, there was used toilet paper stuck to the floor, bloody toilet paper stuck to the side of the toilet and the shower and sink were full with junks of long hair. Now with the flushing, obviously you can't do anything, but nobody came to clean the rooms. The trash can was emptied only after 2 days and the junk of hair was still laying in the shower as we left. Also, the bathroom door could only be pushed close. There was no way of closing it quietly, same with one of the lockers under the bed, which made some actions quite noisy.

One of my best hostels for my Asia trip. As I prefer hostels in the city than on the beach this was ideal. The rooms were spacious and perfectly enough.The staff was very easy going, friendly and helpful and they were always up for a joke. The atmosphere was amazing and through the regular activities you could always meet new people. I'll definitely be back.

Pros: The hostel is very clean, spacious, has professional and friendly service and well maintained facilities. The food is very good, even though local cuisine is missing in the menu. My advice: Don’t go there if you search for peace and quietness. It is definitely a party hostel. If you come to Phnom Penh searching for maximum drunkenness and party noise, you will have an amazing time here. In my case, I felt misplaced, as I am graving a more relaxed atmosphere when traveling. Anyway, this is my bad as I haven’t informed myself well enough upon booking.

Mad Monkey takes their mission of being a party party hostel very seriously. What that means: I stayed there for three nights and had 0 sleep. The hostel is very noisy, there is music playing all night long and people are basically drunk 24/7. And if you are only looking for a “good” party day and night, I guess Mad Monkey is just the perfect hostel for you. I simply needed more. The dorm room I stayed in was quite dirty, especially the bathroom, which is not only the fault of the staff and hostel. Some people are just like animals and never clean after themselves so the staff has to clean even more often, and sometimes I guess they just can’t keep up with the ignorance of people. Nevertheless, the staff is not the friendliest, I don’t expect a lot but just genuine people who treat you nicely. At Mad Monkey it feels like the staff just wants your money. This also shows when you look at the prices. Everything is slightly more expensive. Laundry costs 2$ per kilo, and towels cost 5$ renting, but you only get 4$ back because of a cleaning fee (never had that in another hostel before!) In conclusion, I would not go back to any Mad Monkey hostel. If you are looking for genuinely nice people guests or staff, cleanness, or any kind of sleep - don’t go to mad monkey. There are simply much better once. For example, the Onederz in Phnom Penh. I would recommend you that hostel.

The BEST hostel I’ve ever stayed. The staff speak SO great English and they are so friendly. They have events like Pub Crawl and it’s a VERY awesome place to socialize and meet new friends. I’ve made so many great friends from all over the world. Cheers to Vinnie, Sarah, and Chantal for their gorgeous hospitality. The place is so cool as well. There is a very nice pool and rooms are so clean. Don’t doubt even for a second to book room in this wonderful hostel!

Good location. Nice decoration with fun activities for groups of friends (with beers and music). Most visitors are Westerners. Recommended if you are going with groups. Solo travelers will find it little isolated when going to the bar at ground floor.

The hostel is a good place especially for solo travellers who want to meet a lot of people and do many activities. I could recommend doing the Sunset Walking Tour and try the spider 😉 Tin Tin was our guide and he did a really good job. He‘s also helping you with other things and tours, a really friendly guy.

Had a sadly bad experience here. The staff is great but the customers are very messy and disrespectful. Despite a curfew my roommates came in at 2 am and talked out loud with the lights on. The bathroom are absolutely horrendous (because of the customers once again). The party vibe seemed fun if you are looking for some spring break style though! The Room had AC and was clean which was nice. Overall, don’t stay here if you like a laidback nice vibe, but do if you like pool parties & drinks madness!

Party hostel, doesn't look like in the pictures. If you want to have fun, do fun organized activities, party hard and drink cheap beverages by the pool, that's your spot. If you wanna take it easy, then it's not your spot because it's not at all comfortable and very loud day and night.

Facilities need a major remodel. Restrooms werent clean. Beds were squeaky. Stayed just one night and had to bounce.

Best hostel I’ve stayed in in Asia. We were there for a week, staying in a private room and then a 4 bed dorm. Both were great. A major shoutout has to go to the hostel staff, especially the reps. ThyThy and Denis were incredible, they made our stay so much more personal and enjoyable. We love you guys!!! Will definitely be back to stay there again the next time I’m in PP, and will recommend the place to everyone I meet. <3

Cool place, efficient and friendly staff. Price a bit expensive for what it is. But most important : please change your animation team, shouting all the time for whatever reason, refusing entry to the bar for those who didn’t pay 10$ to do the entire pub crawl who just wanted to pay a single beer at the first bar makes absolutely no sense. This business model of pushing travelers for these activities who offers “privileges” is ridiculous. I would never come back, you can do way better. Change this team, they are annoying everybody. Always pushing you to drink as well, very very painful.

Wicked hostel lives up to its reputation. Staff are so so nice & helpful (especially Tea-tea & Lauren!) - thanks so much for everything. We were upgraded from a 12 to 6 bed which was appreciated! Comfy & clean rooms, lovely pool and so much space to chill. Recommend the pub crawl as well. Thanks!

The staff were helpful and informative. They did really good tours and activities each day that were affordable and the right amount of social. The place was so spacious and welcoming. Very fun and easy place to stay. The drink and food weren’t too expensive either. Would’ve loved a curtain on the bunk for a little privacy and the air-con in our room wasn’t very good so some of us were very hot

We stayed for 3 nights in a private double. The hostel is really clean and the relax areas are great. Pool was lovely (although not in the sun most of the day). Staff were all friendly. Food was really good. Our room was small (could not get down both sides of the bed) and the bed was hard. Our shower also didn’t drain properly. There’s also no elevator so if you’re on the top floor be ready for some tired legs every time you need to go back to the room. Otherwise we had a nice stay.

At check in we had to fill out a document and write down all our passport and visa information but right after that they scanned our passports. Made us wonder why they even made us do that. The free welcome drink is only available before 6pm. We arrived shortly before 6pm and were told that we could bring our bags to our room and then we could still get our free beer. But when we went to the bar, they refused us the drink. However, just getting a waiter to talk to us was difficult. He went past us multiple times even making eye contact but never speaking to us. We had to call him twice until he decided to finally talk to us. At first the dorm looked nice. But then we saw multiple living bugs inside the shower and even one 2 cm bug in the bed that was still alive. Also there's no elevator, so if you stay in an upper floor, prepare for the stairs. At first glance the hostel seems nice but our experience wasn't good at all.

Beat hostel in Phnom Penh! Amazing staff, Rudy and Soso were super friendly and helpful. Had amazing conversations with Rudy, he is a legend! The rooms were really nice, biggest beds I’ve slept in during my whole SE Asia trip. A lot of social activities so you won’t be bored even if you are solo traveling.

The reps there were like actual work horses. Always doing their best to make your time the absolute best it could be. But the biggest shout out to smiley, mason and cas who seemed like a perfect team and they knew how to party.

There are two blocks of accomodation here - one newer block with the pool and an older block above the restaurant. The newer rooms are a lot nicer. Our room above the restaurant was fairly basic and not the most attractive, but is clean and practical. Lots of organised activities and nice lively atmosphere in evenings. Two gripes are firstly having to pay for water refills where other independent hostels will give this free. The cost is also the same as buying a new cold bottle from the shop down the road so i think it's tight of a large company like mad monkey to charge for water. Secondly food is on the expensive side compared to other nearby restaurants.

Loved this place! Tons of awesome reviews on google, Hostelworld and lonely planet which made staying here a no brainer. Awesome party hostel with a really nice pool, super friendly staff, and a high tech cashless wrist... BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY there was a 30 min happy hour window where BEER WAS FREEEEEEEEEEEEEE. Get the brunch meal at the restaurant if you’re hungry - comes with a ton of food for not so much money; the delicious hollandaise sauce alone will carry you to dinner. We met Alana there, who was so friendly, helpful and professional - bonus points for her being Canadian, and she also killed it at karaoke. She gave us a great rundown of how things worked at Mad Monkey and also gave us tons of great tips about travelling in SE Asia!! Highly recommend, great experience and atmosphere.

Was absolutely fantastic. Was there on Saturday night and I had the best time in PP so far. The staff that work there are super friendly and they really make things there a lot more injoyable. Thanx again for the night and unfortunately Mad Monkey PP will be seeing me again soon❤️

Absolutely amazing time. Stayed in the 22 bed room, but was given a little section for the 2 of us. We loved the calmness during the day and party during the night. Alana checked in on us all the time and did such an amazing job! Special shoutouts to Smilie and Leo, such great guys that took care of us as well.

Did a backpacking more like flash packing trip back in 2017 and thought I’d leave reviews on some of the places I’ve stayed in. Food was bad . Toilet in the rooms could’ve been cleaner. But everything else was amazing . The staff was immense in helping us book all our tours, getting a driver giving us some suggestions on what to do beyond the usual. Prices were cheap even by hostel standards . Very close to sisowath quay which is the closest semblance to a happening nightlife spot. Finally I like the pub games that they have running in the bar it had such a great atmosphere without being too overwhelming or rowdy. Definitely recommend backpackers coming here although I hope the food has improved since my trip in 2017

Really great party hostel. I've stayed at a few different party hostels and this has been my favourite so far. The staff are really friendly, and the type of people this hostel attracts are really nice. They have a pool to hang out in during the day, with a cheap bar. At night they do a bunch of different events including bar crawls, pub quizzes, etc.. Internet is really fast, and is okay for remote workers like myself.

The beds are very wide and comfortable! Very good social scene in the bar upstairs too! The coffee and food here is also okay, prices are average. The staff are friendly but I've definitely met friendlier staff at other hostels. Overall for the price you pay to stay here it's very good value for money. You can also have a good night's sleep if you're not into partying

I booked 3 nights and had a room in the building with the bar. As it was just too noisy for me (no complaint, I knew it's a "party hostel", I just wasn't aware that I booked a room so close to a bar) after 1 night I asked the girls at the reception if I can change to the other building. They were just lovely and I changed without any problems. Unfortunately only for one more night, because then the villa was fully booked, but I got a refund for the last night. So that's why I still give a 5 star rating, cause the rooms are nice, the girls at the reception are very helpful and friendly and the food is great! Thanks a lot

Thought we'd try the Mad Monkey for a Sunday feast and drinks. Walked in, sat down and waited 10 minutes without any service whatsoever before walking out. 2 women standing around in the kitchen just gawped at us. Went around the corner to the Aussie place and spent $40. Think your SOP needs updating bigtime!

Spent a month throughout the Cambodian Mad Monkeys and highly recommend. You’ll find a good mix of expats, backpackers and holidaymakers - I made many friends for life! The beds are super comfy (and larger than usual, especially in SE Asia) and the food is reasonably priced and makes things really convenient. It’s still a ‘party’ hostel and they offer pub crawls/tours and other free activities (pre-covid). Having a pool was amazing in the heat and the Wi-Fi was fast enough. Best thing were the foreign and Khmer staff - so friendly and helpful. Big thanks to Casson for helping organise tours and for being so hospitable. He truly ensured we had an unforgettable stay! I’ll definitely be back any time I visit Cambodia.

It was an amazing experience If you are looking to disconnect from the world and be surrounded by nature and beauty mad monkey solemon is the place for you. Rep Greg was awesome to have around he was fun friendly and will always help you to meet new people and brought everyone together completely filled with energy and always down for a beer. 3pm beer at the pier with him were like one of the best moments. Staff was super friendly and supportive.

A great hostel with everything you could want, lively bar, restaurant, pool and helpful staff. I stayed here on three separate occasions while traveling through Cambodia, so I definitely have to give it 5 stars. The best party hostel I've stayed at in South East Asia! All the staff were absolutely amazing, especially the party reps Anja, Casey and Abi. They went to the effort of making everyone feel at home and had an event on almost every night. Clean rooms and toilets. Can't recommend enough.

This is a good hostel but somehow it lacked something. We stayed at all the mad monkeys in Cambodia and this one was the only one that didn’t blow us away but we can’t pinpoint why. Only thing we can think is that the staff were all brand new when we got there so they weren’t as knowledgable, approachable etc as in the other hostels. Good hostel nonetheless just needs that wow factor to put it up with the others!

But what makes this hostel so good and welcoming are the staff, the guys who run the desk are super helpful and know everything about the local area. Mad monkey in PP was a great stay. We arrived early on the overnight bus while our room wasn’t ready yet we were able to nap in the ac lounge area on some cozy beanbag chairs. Our room was ready quick. We had a private double bed room with a bathroom. It was clean and spacious. The beds were a little firm but still comfortable. The only downside is the elevator is broken. We did the walking tour with Tin Tin which I highly recommend! He was knowledgeable and entertaining. He has a wonderful personality! There were only two of us for the tour and we were grateful he still walked us around! Mad monkey has a very lively and fun atmosphere. It’s easy to meet new people and make new friends. I would recommend!

I have been traveling around Southeast Asia for a few weeks now, but this was my first experience staying in a hostel and I have to say it was amazing. There were so many young people, and a festive atmosphere every day. Linn at the reception was wonderful, super cool, and helped me in several situations, including intervening on the phone in a somewhat tense situation with a driver with whom I couldn't communicate. Thanks also to Daniel for helping me organize my itinerary for the next few days. I highly recommend this place.

One of the best hostels I've stayed in ever. Good property. Tastefully done. Kind staff (all.except one) Reasonable prices. Clean rooms. Clean bathrooms. Lots of activities to choose from. One issue I had was the 5$ minimum spend for.card usage. 3% charge for card usage. Bag storage after check out if you're waiting for a few hours for your bus/train/flight. Trustworthy tuktuks (you can also use the grab app). Water is double price in the hostel than the supermarket. Laundry is double price compared to the laundromat outside. Food is Amazing. Quite a few vegan options. Food Takes a while to come. Wish they had mock meats too. Cleaning staff came sharp at 10 to clean the room. They did a good job. Rooms were well lit and air condition and fan too. I slept in a 4 bed dorm. Overall great experience. Would stay again in the Phnom Penh branch

I recently stayed at Mad Monkey and had an amazing experience, largely thanks to Lin, the receptionist. Lin's exceptional social skills created a warm and inclusive atmosphere, bringing guests together effortlessly. Her ability to organize activities made the hostel feel like a community. Nice hostel, good and clean bunks. A lot of services, great to organize things. It has a bar downstairs with pool, which accommodates many parties. Well this has been and will be the perfect accommodation in Phnom Penh. The staff is very kind, the prices are affordable, and the hostel is located in a great neighbourhood. I cannot think of a better place to stay, and recommend this lodging to all who stay in Phnom Penh for any reason. Tony and Lin in particular are wonderful and supportive staff members. They are always so welcoming and kind to me, and always helpful as well. I feel close to the staff at Mad Monkey, and will continue to book here for the foreseeable future. This is the best mad monkey I've stayed at, most likely because it's the original, it's big with nice dorms, the 10 bed dorm didn't really feel like 10 bed because they're split up over multiple areas. I wasn't feeling very social at this stage of my travel so I can't comment on the bar and atmosphere that much, but I had some food and it was good for hostel standards. The staff on the desk were all lovely and accommodating, I booked my transport with them and they were kind and knowledgeable, Lin and Tony especially.

Mad Monkey will give you an amazing experience. You can meet a lot of people here. The location is near to many places you can roam around. Hospitality of the mad Monkey team is amazing. Everyone is so helpful and so happy to host you for any support I need to specially mention about Lin.. She helped me a lot to know about all the places and plan my trip. I really appreciate Lin commitment shown towards Mad Monkey.

MAD Monkey is an incredible place to stay. The hostel's construction, complete with a delightful swimming pool and a cozy design, sets the perfect atmosphere. The staff is exceptionally friendly and accommodating. During a tour to the killing fields with Kim Sin, his management of the trip was impressive. Upon returning to the hostel, Malis and Tony took excellent care of us, adding to the positive experience. The sunset tour with Tin Tin was not only enjoyable but also led by an outstanding guide—his vibrant personality made it an unforgettable experience. Ending the day with a party at the hostel hosted by Thy Thy was an absolute blast. Overall, the entire staff contributes to creating the best hostel experience, and I am looking forward to returning to MAD Monkeys in Phnom Penh.
