My second ever Ethiopian experience. Cor Blimey! Tasty would be an understatement. Not only did my pallet have a revelation but Auntie Kokeb made me feel like I visiting my mother for dinner. What an amazing woman with a great story. We asked what she recommended and she asked all the other customers what they liked the most that night and then came back to us and told us to get that. Will definitely be popping into this little gem again.

Looking forward to come back to this relaxed and welcoming restaurant, with a warm and friendly atmosphere. The lady who owns the restaurant works really hard to do everything herself, from cooking to waitressing and everything in between. She was really helpful and recommended some dishes we could have on the platter to share, and we were very pleased we chose to go with her guidance as the food was beautiful, especially the lentil dish and the mince. Next time we hope to try 'tibs' as they sound incredible. Definitely recommend!

This lovely place is full of character with such a great host. She clearly puts a lot of time and love in to her cooking and business. She is very accommodating and friendly. And the food was delicious. A recommended experience for anyone who is interested to try Ethiopian food for the first time.

Absolutely amazing. The lady running the place has a heart of gold and spent time with us to genuinely understand our taste, budget, etc (which was good as we had no idea what we were doing) We trusted her judgement and the food was to die for! My friend didn't like the bread which has a slight vinegary taste but I thought it complemented the food so well. I'll recommend to all my friends and make the trip back soon

Finally visited Kokeb Ethiopian Restaurant on Roman Way N7 after passing it on my way home numerous times. I’m on a mission to try all the local Ethiopian & Eritrean Restaurants. I had the House special which consisted of Key Minchet Abish (spicy beef mince), Ye-Misir Key Wot (red lentils), Ye-Alicha Kik Wot (yellow split peas) & spinich. All of it had a fiery tastiness to it (she asks how spicy you would like it). The lady serving was really sweet & attentive, felt like going to your aunties house for dinner. No Tej unfortunately. Overall a good dining experience, I recommend it.

Fantastic food at super cheap prices. I'm going back again and again. I have the selection of vegan food which included spinach, chickpeas, lentils and dhal. All had distinct flavour and the injera is fantastic! I love the lady who runs it, who is funny and super kind. It is a gem of a restaurant in Islington.

We were welcomed and made to feel at home right away. This was a really good experience, I felt like I was in the owners living room and having a real Ethiopian experience. The food was tasty and had a real home cooked feel about it. The owner knew all her customers and did everything by herself which was very impressive. A real cultural experience and hopefully will be back for the coffee soon. Thank you

Everything about this place is fantastic. The lady that runs it is lovely, the food is amazing, atmosphere is charming. Always leave 100% satisfied. One of those independent restaurants I hope the best for and will continue to go back to.

We love Kokeb! Having grown up in Ethiopia my partner often craves authentic Ethiopian food, and Kokeb always delivers. It’s reasonably priced, delicious, and operated by the loveliest lady who makes you feel like you are stepping into her home. We’ve taken many friends to introduce them to this cuisine, who all love it. If new to Ethiopian food, be assured that you will be welcomed with open arms and if not, that you’ll enjoy delicious traditional dishes. Great for vegetarians/vegans too.

Incredibly delicious food, including gluten free injera (made entirely with teff - very difficult to find, usually!), wonderful service. One of my favourite restaurants in London.

Lovely food, lovely lady, lovely place. We were the only ones there for our entire dinner, but we still had a nice time. A fantastic vegetarian meal.

Visited here with some friends who recommended it and it was great! "Aunty" (the owner) was such a helpful delight and the food was great and we were able to choose from quite a few coeliac-friendly options :) If in the area, would definitely be up for going again!

Had a perfect meal with my family. We wanted a place where we could celebrate being together and eat in a communal way. Kokeb was a great find! Atmosphere is relaxed and the food is delicious. The chef chose exactly right for us in terms of variation of spice, vegetables and meats. This is wonderful healthy food cooked with love. Not a drop was leftover. I could eat here every day!

Really cosy atmosphere, attentive and jovial host, and wholesome, warming food - it's like having dinner at your grandparents' house.

Such a gem of an establishment. I keep going back and bringing new friends everytime. The owner is always attentive: she asks what you usually like then she tells you to leave it up to her. Everytime she brings out something incredible!

My friends and I loved this place. The host was the best!! Super lovely and friendly and the food was amazing. Incredibly wholesome and tasty. My favourite sides were the veggie ones. Amazing value for money too! I was shocked when I looked at the bill!!!

Excellent Ethiopian in a local setting. The owner and chef is very welcoming and friendly. We had only vegetarian and loved everything. The fava beans were a highlight but certainly take the chefs recommendations! Can eat well for less than £15/person which makes it worth a trip from across town.

One of the best Ethiopian restaurants in London. If you want authentic, home cooked food, it's one of the best places to eat. Simple, delicious and great value for money. Highly recommended.

I cannot recommend this place enough. It's tasty. It's reasonably priced. It's authentic, home made food. But most importantly, it's the lady who works there that makes this place. Not only does she work hard to cook and wait herself, but she does so with a caring and human attitude that makes you feel like you are visiting family for dinner. Carry on Kokeb, I will definitely be back! PS: I also really appreciated how COVID safe the place was. I was a bit worried going to a restaurant for the first time after restrictions ended, but the owner was wearing a mask the whole time and was super considerate. Thank you!

The chef was amazing and so friendly and told us African history and how to properly eat authentic Ethiopian food. Love her, love the restaurant and amazingly priced.
