👍👍 Steve has cultivated a great atmosphere where anyone can feel welcome, regardless of their training history or modality. The space is the best you'll find in the city for a full range of training experiences and the 24 hour access is incredibly useful for anyone who's got strange hours. The people... People often mention Steve, equipment, training, owner, trainers, Mass, friendly, work, feel, great,

I’ve been coming here since about October 2021. Everyone here is very friendly and welcoming! There’s plenty of squat racks, area for deadlifting, 2 sets of cable machines, plenty of dumbbells and kettlebells, along with other equipment and a few machines. There’s towels & filtered water for your convenience. I believe there’s even a shower? Also, as a young woman I feel very safe coming here & comfortable going to Steve if I ever have any issues. The guys (and girls) here have your back! 💪🏼 It’s a great environment & people are willing to help you if you need.

Best gym I've ever been a member of. The owner, Steve, is very kind and welcoming. He actually cares about more than your money. The environment is pretty chill and laid-back, like you're lifting in the garage with friends, but also encouraging of hard work and intensity. He's built a fantastic community here. This gym is special.

This gym is great if you are serious about weight lifting. The equipment is excellent- everything you need. The gym is clean and well-organized. And the members are friendly, respectful, and serious about training. It also feels very inclusive and comfortable to me as a woman. Steve, the owner, is amazing. I trained with him for many months and, due to our work together, am now pain-free- something that PT and other techniques didn't bring about. I can't recommend this gym highly enough!

This place is AWESOME!!! The people and the community here at this gym were extremely friendly and welcoming. There was no point during my workout where I felt uncomfortable or out of place. Everyone was supportive and encouraging and I want to give a big shout out to Carlisle & Clayton (hope I spelled your names right) for helping me learn how to use the Earthquake bar and correct my form on the sled push. Will definitely be back here again next time I am in town!

24/7 gym. Wide variety of stuff but more powerlifting-focused. Bumper plates, steel plates, 5+ squat racks, 2+ deadlift platforms, reverse hyper, competition bench, etc. Small selection of machines. A lot of older equipment but some new stuff too.

Incredible gym with a fantastic owner. It has all of the equipment you could possibly need, especially if you're a powerlifter. The community is very welcoming, encouraging, and respectful. The gym is kept clean and at a comfortable temperature. It's open 24 hrs a day with access to showers, towels, and lockers. There are no cons. Just join the gym already.

After battling through some injuries and pain, I came to the conclusion that I wanted to get stronger and looked for a gym/trainer near me. I found MASS FIT and am so incredibly happy I did. The gym is nice, clean, and has everything you would need. What makes this gym stand out is the owner, Steve. He is a great guy who really cares about his business and giving clients his best. I have never been to a gym like this before or had a gym experience like this that felt so personalized and welcoming with a unique philosophy engrained into truly getting clients healthy and strong. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a gym and/or trainer.

Mass F.I.T. is a fantastic gym. The facilities are excellent, and all the equipment is always in good working order. What sets this place apart though, is the owner. Steve makes you feel like you are part of a community as opposed to a customer. The customer service is exemplary, even when you need to temporarily pause or even cancel a membership. You can find a gym anywhere, but a gym like Mass F.I.T. that is also an open, welcoming community is a true rarity.

Mass f.i.t. is the BEST! This review has been a long time coming. I don't know why it's taken me so long... Training with Steve (the owner) has been an absolute pleasure and has helped me so much to remain virtually pain free for over two years! Like a lot of people, I had neck pain from phone/computer use. Steve figured out which muscles were weak and we went to work training my body in a way I had never thought of before. Lifting weights! Steve's style of training employs functional lifting, with bars/kettlebells etc instead of machines, which is much more helpful in getting your body aligned properly so it works better for you. This is not your typical gym...Steve creates such a fun, easy-going, community environment. You'll learn a lot just being in the gym, but I would work with one of the trainers to really get the full experience. Steve even offers tailored online training plans, so once you understand how to lift, you can follow a plan and work out on your own! Highly recommended for all body types, and workout levels!

Top of the line gym! Excellent trainers! I have been going to Mass F.I.T. for years and have had an amazing experience there! The equipment is top of the line, the gym is always clean, it is never overly crowded and it is a very comfortable place to work out. My fitness level has never been better and it is a great gym for women to feel comfortable training. Matt, my personal trainer, is outstanding, as is Steve the owner. Best gym!

I love this gym! It’s super convenient for anyone in QV and accessible 24/7. It has a wide varieties of free weights and machines. When I started, I had no experience with lifting and was able to have a training session to start me off. The owner is a fantastic person and the people who go to this gym are great- I’ve never felt uncomfortable working out here like I have at other gyms. This gym is also a small business, which is such a plus! Thanks Steve for having such a great facility!

If i could give 20 more stars i would. I have been a member of Mass Fit for almost a year after my gym closed in Old City. Steve and the other trainers have done an amazing job at curating a friendly, wholesome learning environment for all levels of gym goers. From day one, I felt welcomed and appreciated every time I stepped through the front doors. In college I suffered an injury from lifting and had several questions around form/technique I might have been afraid to ask in a different gym setting. Not only did Steve and his staff answer my questions, but they followed up with me. I have noticed an immense amount of change in my lifts from being a member of this gym and being around people who share the same amount of dedication/respect for the sport as I do. I cannot recommend Mass Fit enough. For the record, I am only leaving due to moving across the city. If I can package Mass Fit up and take It with me, I would. Do not hesitate to join!!!

This gym is a hidden gem in Society Hill. It has all of the benefits of a standard gym, and something I have rarely experienced in gyms of this quality, a very cozy/comfortable/inclusive atmosphere. The gym is spacious/clean with tons of equipment/machines for strength training, aerobic exercise, calisthenics, etc. The other members are quite friendly and at the same time motivate each other to meet fitness goals. For these reasons, this gym has helped me attain my goals and continuously inspires me to set new ones. Always look forward to visiting this very fun gym.

Easily the best gym I have been to in the city!! I’ve tried city fitness/other commercial gyms but never found them to have the most positive gym culture. MASS Fit easily has the most welcoming gym vibe ever. Steve the gym owner is amazing. Gym has all the equipment you need. And all the gym members are super friendly so if you’re ever struggling/need advice, you can ask anybody without feeling judged. Highly recommend!

This is the best gym I've ever been to. I've been working with the owner, Steve, for my programming, and have seen great results the past few months. I'm stronger and feel great. Also there is a true sense of community in the gym, and people of all different ages and sizes come together and interact and actually talk to each other. It's always open so there's no excuses to get in a workout. The gym is very well equipped - plenty of racks and platforms to lift. I'm very happy I found this place.

Exactly what I wanted my gym to be. Everyone mind their business here and gets their work out in. There is so much equipment here that they will likely have exactly what you need. The hours are flexible enough for the long work days. The owner is kind and personable, always makes it a point to say hello to each gym goer. 10/10, grateful this gym exists.

Mass FIT is my favorite gym in Philly, and I've tried them all! Steve and his staff have an amazing personal touch and are always happy to give pointers or advice. I love the flexible hours, and the price is unbeatable. Hands down a great fitness experience, whether you're training by yourself, with a friend, or with a trainer. Thanks Mass FIT!

My wife and I have been members of this gym for about 6 months. Steve is a great guy and really cares about his members and the gym. The gym is clean, accessible, and everyone is super friendly. We love the convenience of after-hours access, too. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a change!

  • 5/5 Mike C. 1 year ago on Google
Awesome gym! 24 hour access was great for me with my work schedule. Steve (the owner) is amazing, very easy to get along with. The members are friendly and welcoming. Lots of parking available within a block of the gym, really easy access. I can't recommend this place any more. If you're on the fence about joining, just try it out and I bet you'll stay.

MASS F.I.T. is a terrific gym in Society Hill. All the functional equipment you could ever want and a great cadre of professional trainers, who are are experts in their fields. The focus is on improving movement, flexibility, and strength and more importantly sustaining them. The atmosphere is always welcoming, they are always acquiring the latest and best equipment, and the hours are convenient for most lifestyles. I would personally recommend the gym and any trainer.

MASS fit is an excellent gym with an unbeatable location. The equipment is sufficient and has everything one would need. If you’re looking for a friendly neighborhood gym with no frills or fanfare, then MASS Fit is the place for you. The owner always has a smile on his face which really lends itself to a non-antimidating atmosphere; all shapes and sizes are always welcome. Highly recommend this business.

MASS F.I.T. is the best gym! You have to check it out! I've been going to gyms my entire life and this is the first time I've developed a routine that has had a huge impact on my health and body. The gym has tons of equipment and I'm never waiting in line. The space is clean and full of natural light which is really helpful if you work out in the AM as I do. All of the staff and trainers are friendly and easy to talk to if I have any questions about an exercise. Ive been going to this gym for four years now, 3-4 days a week, and training with Steve, the owner. Ive reached all of my weight loss goals and, more importantly, my strength and endurance has improved immensely. I look forward to seeing Steve in the morning to work out; who can say that about thier gym experience? He gives me advice on food and provides me routines that I can move through on my own when I come to the gym outside of our scheduled sessions. You really get so much more from Mass F.I.T. than a gym where you're just another number/subscription. Definitely check this place out if you, like me, have been searching a long time for a gym experience /exercise routine that works and lasts. I found it here!

MASS F.I.T. has changed my life in ways I did not think were possible. I started training with Steve 4 months ago. It was a big decision and commitment for me as I had joined gyms and hired a trainer in the past and had very little results. This time I would quickly see and physically feel would be different. By the 3rd session my posture was starting to dramatically change in ways I and my family were noticing. Ways Steve told me could change after my screening session. I could now stand straighter, taller and felt like my feet were more firmly on the ground when walking and standing. I had not felt unsteady on my feet, but now standing was dramatically different and I truly felt more grounded. I no longer experienced occasional back pain and found myself easily carrying 50 lbs of dog food up a flight of steps. Wow!! Steve truly cares about his clients and provides guidance in lifestyle, nutrition, daily living habits in addition to excellent personal, individualized training. He taught me that making little changes on a daily basis adds up to major changes to ones life. I am so excited that I made the right decision to join MASS F.I.T. and make healthy changes in my life. I know the next 4 months will bring more positive changes and I am ready for this and more!! Thank you Steve for providing excellent training and creating a community feel at your gym that is always welcoming to all.

MassFIT is far and away the greatest gym experience in Philadelphia. If you are at all serious about training, MassFIT should be your mecca. If you are in the area and still punishing yourself with a corporate gym experience - just stop. I mean unless you are into the whole masochism thing. I joined a week after I moved in down the street about 2.5 years ago, and it's become my second home. It remains the primary reason I keep re-signing my lease and living in the neighborhood. The occasionally smelly horse stall mats are sacred ground to me, and it's evident by how well maintained this place is that many feel the same. Running an independent gym is hard as hell and the only way it works is through the absolute blood sweat and toil that Steve (the owner) has put into the place over the years. MassFIT is absolutely stocked with specialty equipment and laid out for very efficient training. 6 full racks, Alan Thrall inspired DIY deadlift platforms, and a full 500kg set of Rogue calibrated kilo plates make this the perfect place to pursue serious powerlifting numbers. For the (noble) hypertrophy enthusiasts you've got every possible type of specialty bar, cable attachment, dip belt, and enough mirrors to stare at when curling in the squat rack. For the Olympic weightlifter there are plenty of platforms, pads, and bumper plates to toss around and make everyone around you reevaluate their life choices. I wouldn’t know anything about it because I have never done dedicated cardio in my life but there are also a whole bunch of what I think are called “treadmills”? Along with an assault bike, rowers, and a few punching bags to live out your inner Steven Seagal power fantasies. MassFIT just has good energy. From the trainers to the members everyone has a very positive, encouraging, and unpretentious attitude. I personally approach the gym and my training as a way to disassociate from the world and focus on my internal war against the iron. That said, it's always nice to say hi to all the people who I've never learned their names but see more regularly than all my friends and family. My favorite is when Steve (MassFIT owner, not Seagal) greets you with a friendly "hey how's it going" and I respond with "you too!" and then I cringe endlessly at the thought of that encounter every night for a week. Anyway, all of that is to say this place is fantastic. If you are just visiting, skip the liberty bell and get a MassFIT day pass. If you live in the area and have any serious goals related to fitness and self improvement - this is the place. 24/7 access is easy and accommodates any schedule. It definitely gets busy at peak hours but for the most part outside of like 10am and 6pm midweek you are never waiting for equipment. Training is a life long pursuit and I am sure I will one day move away but while I have been here in the city this gym has defined my life and I will be forever grateful for its existence. The gym itself won't build your physique - that’s on you push yourself past your limits, but MassFIT alleviates all the friction to building disciplined healthy habits that will allow you to give your best effort, unencumbered, every time you train. Steve, the members, and trainers all make MassFIT a near perfect establishment and I can't recommend it enough.

Best place to train in Philadelphia if you really care about your body and do not want to get injured. Educated and professional trainers who actually care more about quality than quantity of movement and exercise.

  • 5/5 Millie Solano A. 5 years ago on Google
The trainers here are very knowledgeable. I started working out with Richard since February and I already see and feel a significant improvement on my strength. I had knee problems and previous injuries . As a professional dancer I needed to work on strengthening my body to be able to perform and keep my career. The trainers here were able to pinpoint the cause of my problems like no one else had in the past . This helped me avoid further damage and reverse the problems I had .I m looking forward to many more sessions ahead and the progress to go alone with it .

MASS Fit is awesome!!! I have been training with Steve for a little over a year now and I can't believe the difference he has made in my life. I had daily back pain for over 10 years and after a few short months it was completely alleviated. I have been dancing since I was a child and I have never felt so stable and balanced in my life. Much love for Steve and the whole crew at MASS Fit!!

Steve at Mass Fit has been my trainer, torturer and inspiration for 6 years. His new space in Society Hill is welcoming , spacious and clean. As a professional dancer, my knee pain was so bad that I was fearful for my career. The trainer's all work together as a team to " fix me up" I highly recommend this gym and all of the trainers there.

I hadn't been in a gym for 30 years before meeting Steve, but have now been working out with him twice a week foror over two years (thanks to my girlfriend who also started using Mass FIT when she started having some kneed problems). Steve took it nice and slow at first so I didn't get discouraged, but have "taken it to the next level" two or three times already . Just as importantly, he doesn't push my 60-year-old body (in my mind, I'm still 25) further than it needs to go, so I don't worry about the risk of injury. My goal is not weight loss, but have probably traded in a pound of fat for every pound of muscle I've gained. Further, as I split my time between Philadelphia and Florida, Steve and I have figured -- via Skype -- out how to keep it going when I'm Florida. Can't recommend Mass FIT enough. But don't go if you don't like to have fun...the guys are a hoot.

As someone that has been in out of physical therapy since I was in high school with sports injuries, I have seen a lot of top end physical therapist. I never thought I would find a gym with a staff of personal trainers that are not only humble, welcoming, and kind but also had the knowledge and science that matched many of the physical therapists I have had in the past. The trainers are also able to deliver that information in a way that allows the average person to not only physicalize what the trainer is asking of them but also understand why each exercise is important for their specific pain, goals and body type. The facility is intimate yet roomy and constantly being improved. Every time you walk in there you know the owner, Steve is thinking of ways to improve the customer and member experience. There is so much care in what Steve does and that affects the way all the staff interact and train their clients. Many people including myself walk around with minor chronic pain due to lifestyle or past injuries, over the past 5 months working with Mass F.I.T. Staff that pain has gone away and I feel myself getting stronger and living a more active life.

Been training with Brendan at MASS F.I.T for a couple months now. Probably the most rewarding gift to myself EVER! Brendan has made this rather unfit, unhappy, unmotivated momma feel a ton better about herself. At the same time I’m slowly noticing changes in my daily habits. Sitting at my computer, driving my car or picking up my son; Even walking up a flight of stairs; I just feel better doing everything and my posture has improved. There is no price tag for this. The studio isn’t your normal gym. It’s a special place designed to make individuals feel confident in their own personal wellness goals. There’s nothing intimidating here. Thank you Brendan. My arms and legs are killing me tonight, but I know it’s all worth it!

I have been training with Steve (the owner) at Mass-Fit for 6 months now and the experience has been fantastic. Steve is extremely knowledgeable and truly loves what he does. He is committed to making you stronger, more flexible and pain free so you’ll have the best quality of life possible. And it works. You will feel so much better than when you first walked in the door. And the best thing is the atmosphere is great. Everyone there is fun, supportive and relaxed. You will definitely get a work out but you’ll enjoy doing it. Hard to believe but true!! It truly is the best present you could give yourself.

I can’t say enough good things about my experience with the most exceptional trainer at this gym. After working with numerous trainers, Rich Decoatsworth has been by far the most professional, caring, talented trainer I’ve had the pleasure of working with. He truly cares about his clients’ success; he is your partner in the gym and cheerleader outside of it. His knowledge is vast and you’re never bored. The results speak for themselves and you’ll feel more motivated than ever!

Love this place! Steve helped me get so strong, all while relieving my pain and making me feel awesome. The trainers are friendly, helpful, and very knowledgable. Steve's worked very hard to create a dynamic space for clients and trainers with state of the art equipment and a focus on strength without gimmicks. If I weren't moving across the country, I'd still be training here.

MASS F.I.T. is by far the best gym I have ever been a part of. My fiancé and I are able to do work out sessions together which makes it fun and motivating! Not only are we getting healthy and fit but they make it fun!!! Our trainer Steve is the best! He is always making us laugh and keeps us motivated. He also is more than willing to give us work outs to continue doing on our own when we go into the gym on our off days. We truly love this place! I have always been intimidated by the gym and lifting weights but they make it so inviting. All the trainers are so wonderful and go out of their way to say hello. I cannot say enough good things about this gym!! Definitely a hidden gem in Philly!

This place is not a gym in the traditional sense. Training here has helped me build a strong foundation in strength training and functional movement. The trainers are very knowledgeable in their craft and know how much to push you to get you to the next level without injury. I have trained here both with a trainer and without and have to say that having someone keep you accountable has really pushed me to stay consistent and become much stronger. The atmosphere here is welcoming and easy-going. There are plenty of machines and lots of room for lifting with free weights; I never have to wait to use anything. Huge plus - everything is always clean! Highly recommend trying it out!

Incredible gym! Top flight trainers! Great gym for those trying to stay fit and active. Steve the owner has a thirst for fitness and working out and inspires his team and clients to get moving. The gym is very clean and the team constantly wipes down the equipment. It is very woman and family friendly and many neighbors are members. The gym is engaged with the community and gives back to the community. I have been a member for many years and have referred many other members. I love this amazing gym and I will be going for many many more years!

Started working out here last year and love this gym. I was going to a large chain gym earlier and always waited for the bench or squat rack but never here! Started an online program with Steve in February and I’m amazed at my progress and never thought it was possible. For example I put 50 pounds on my bench press in 4 months! The gym is super clean and everyone is so friendly!

Mass Fit is a hidden Society Hill/Queen Village gem. It's a clean, well resourced facility that has whatever you need to achieve your fitness goals. Steve the owner looks out for every member and you will get hands on advice and ridiculous stories whenever you're both in the gym. I highly recommend over the chain gyms in the area.

Mass Fit is one of the best gyms in Philly. This is a real gym made for real people of all fitness goals with a personal touch from ownership. It's authentic and has everything you need: from weight racks to cardio machines to power-lifting equipment. Steve and his staff are dedicated to providing the best fitness experience you can have in downtown Philly, whether it's training or even giving a few pointers or a helpful spot. The flexible hours are an incredible benefit, and the members comprise a friendly but fitness-forward community of like-minded folks. Simply put, Mass Fit should be your go-to gym. It certainly is mine.

Steve has cultivated a great atmosphere where anyone can feel welcome, regardless of their training history or modality. The space is the best you'll find in the city for a full range of training experiences and the 24 hour access is incredibly useful for anyone who's got strange hours. The people there are respectful and supportive and everyone takes care of the place to make sure it maintains a communal, everyone's here getting better atmosphere.

!! Please read !! MASS F.I.T. Changed My Life - Helped me lose 120(!!!) pounds. When I first moved to Philly I was 340 pounds, recovering from a fractured knee bone and deprived of willpower and energy, but starving for motivation. I remember my first visit - I had checked numerous other gyms throughout the city but none seemed to be a good fit. They were elitist, and saw only an overweight fellow with a wallet, not someone who needed help. My first visit to Mass F.I.T. was the last gym I was visiting. I was almost absent of hope. That all changed when the owner himself, Steve, came to greet me. With a smile on his face and a warm persona he gave me a tour, asked about my goals, and how he could help. I knew I had found the gym for me. Thanks to the gym being open 24 hours, I could decide when I wanted to visit, regardless of holidays or my work schedule. The trainers and owner, Steve, are friendly and outgoing, even willing to offer advice to those not under their tutelage. Now, near 2 years since joining, I’m down 130 pounds, yes you read that right. And I’m happy to say Mass F.I.T. Is a prime reason for my new outlook on life and physical fitness. A lot of gyms claim to be a ‘family’. As someone who bounced around many commercial gyms and facilities, I can say that only Mass F.I.T. is a true community (and verging on a second family). I can assure you that upon joining you will find a gym full of the best equipment, a vast knowledge base, and every tool at your disposal to achieve your goals. Whether you’re just looking to exercise, or bodybuild, become a power lifter, practice Olympic lifts, or train for a marathon, you will find exactly what you need. It’s affordable and friendly, available whenever you need it. I can not recommend this gym highly enough. Stop in and say hello! You will not regret it!!
