I have been suffering and referred by GP with my extensive problems over the more than month and hidden for years. Waiting for an appointments and open private referral to be checked. I have got several problems not checked blood test in right time and seeing different results. I can already feel tiered of explaining my worries not to be booked for MRI or Xreay it its is even more stressful. I wish to be seen contacted by manager as I am wondering about my health as it can be even worst in the future. As a private patient and mostly worried this is not appropriate. Specially Miss Shahnaz Akbar has not feeling for woman and patience she is mostly talking about money and giving you wrong opinion specially in woman fertility health

Very disappointing. Where to start. The tests for certain departments are not on site. No clear information given e.g a sheet with prices of everything on is given at the start. Whether you're a private patient or not which I was this time, it's just unacceptable. Especially for upper GI surgery. The consultant gave contradictory information on the tests and also have no idea of prices nor does their receptionis. The consultant was very condescending and unfriendly. He seemed more interested in mocking me over the fact my BMI was slightly over the norm for this type of operation. When I had attended my first ever appointment on Dec 4th 2020 I was greeted by rude receptionists who decide to show me up in the waiting room. I rang the hospital before KT appointment to check if card details were needed I was told definitely not yet of course this was wrong. So I had to fill out a form without any help and rush to ring toget through to relative for details.. Once I got my relative's card details after my appointment on the phone, I was promised my card details would be taken off. But I wasn't happy having to leave these other card details on a piece of paper while at main reception the young lady then chose to help one other person who came along to queue after me. Of course she did not put this through to the central team and To my horror I received an email saying my card details for a test that was done. Straight away I had to ring spire. They tried to fix the issue quickly but we're very unapologetic and derogatory towards me. After a barium food swallow I had an email saying money would be taken from my account!! So after a lot of panic and waiting for the medical company to ring back as they're too busy, they had to contact spire too not just myself. They soon tried to correct it but no apology from Spire and more condescending admin on the phone talking as if I was panicking other nothing! But Spire did admit this could have all been avoided if the central team were informed by main reception at the time. The barium food swallow (Dec 15th 2021) was over half hour late because another patient was a no show which the radiology staff were happy to shout about in the corridor. Very unprofessional.

Firstly I'd like to say the this place don't take appointments if you cant handle the work load, secondly don't be rude when you get called out on time frames you gave to people , Thirdly fire Beverly she refused to give second name or anything else to identify her by, rude , condescending and clearly got other issues. honestly the worse kind of people to deal with hope they get it sorted for the people using them useless. If you are NHS Referred 100% give them a miss. DO NOT USE.

FIVE stars to doctors , nurses , staff working in X -ray and scanning- they are all super brilliant. TWO stars to the main customer service as the NHS customer service is way better than the customer service here( as this is a private hospital the expectation is other way round) and ZERO stars to the customer care team at the imaging section as I find a couple of them customer unfriendly. So if you have private health insurance and not too worried about how you get treated at customer service area and only concerned about the treatment and care , this place is for you.

First time I have been admitted to hospital for an operation. I wanted to be treated privately and it was suggested to me to come here by a friend. At first I thought I was in a 5 star hotel. The staff were extremely kind, considerate, caring and friendly. My room had all I could have wished for during my short stay (including free WiFi). I would thoroughly recommend this hospital to anyone in a similar position to me.

Avoid this hospital at all costs. I should have read the other reviews. The hospital administrative staff are highly disorganised and have nothing but complete contempt for their PAYING patients. They are rude and condescending. I initially attended an appointment and the consultant ordered some tests, one of which required mild sedation. I was asked to see an anesthesiologist ahead of the procedure. I took time off work and attended. The doctor had no idea who I was, why I was there, or what they were supposed to check/investigate. They apologised noting that they were not given any notes by the scheduling team. It was an entire morning wasted. I have since been waiting for over 3 weeks for someone to get back to me. I've called several times and have been ping-ponged from department to department. From scheduling to inpatient to outpatient to pre-op and back. The last person I spoke to, someone called "Millie", simply offered an email address I could write to. Nobody has taken ownership or responsibility for the situation. I told her not to bother and have now filed a complaint directly with my insurer as well as with the hospital. If my experience is anything to go by, I expect absolutely nothing will be done from my hospital complaint.

The management of this hospital is terrible. Their level of professionalism is horrendous. My ex partner managed to get hold of my private medical records without my consent over a phone call. This was later presented in court finance hearing (so he could claim back the medical fees from me ). When this was raised with the hospital, I received a letter of apology, which was not very apologetic! The letter stated 'he was your husband at the time when you were admitted and was your emergency contact, which is why the information was shared' - that in itself breached the very basic data protection law The letter further stated, that the person who shared the information was not fully trained- why are they employing untrained staff? The letter stated also stated that they have now deleted my ex's contact details as one of my emergency contacts.- I had not requested the hospital to do this. Although I would like him to be deleted off as an emergency contact, the hospital should have sought my consent before making ANY changes. PALS at NHS hospitals require a formal request from patients before disclosing patient's own medical record. And here, I have been left paying my ex medical fees, which has caused added financial restrains to me, as a stay at home parent of 3 young children aged 5, 3 and 1 year old.

Used the unbelievable phone wait time to read the Google reviews and glad I did! After the consultant didn't bother showing up for my boyfriend's appointment, leaving us to wait for him for 40 minutes before giving up, I thought it might have been a forgivable one off. However after this and reading the other reviews I've decided to switch and save us both a lot more pain down the line.

Was charged £150 for 1 minute phone call telling me to continue taking my pill. Was also told that I didn’t have endometriosis when i did. NHS gave me the surgery and they were wonderful. Don’t bother with Spire, they’ll misdiagnose, waste your time and charge you for it.

If Spire are intent on taking on more NHS patients, they need to sort their admin! I have just spent 20 mins on the phone, passed from department to department, on hold, off hold, back on hold, with nobody able to deal with a simple query. First phone call: after pressing numerous numbers to get to the right dept, I was waiting too long on hold so followed the option to leave a message -I got to say 2 words & it hung up on me. My query was about an appointment which I'd been given weeks ago. I rang to confirm that appt 3 weeks ago and was told it didn't exist (today I was told that that appt still isn't 'live' on their system, even though it's for tomorrow morning!) Then I get a text reminder for that appt - the appt that supposedly didn't exist! Spire's text reminders stupidly don't include a phone number, so I had to hunt that out. No wonder people don't turn up for appts if they can't find the number to call, then get passed around multiple times before being answered! So eventually I get through to someone who can actually help me - tomorrow's apt is with a foot surgeon, but I saw a foot surgeon last week! Seriously beyond a joke.

Tried to make an appointment (for imaging) but turns out that’s a lot harder than it should be - they just put the phone down after putting me on hold, after already waiting on hold and trying to get through several times before. Will go elsewhere.

Superb treatment at this hospital from Mr Ieong (thats an I not an L) for a recurring problem on my ankle. NHS waiting times are about six months for this non-critical injury but it was adversely affecting my quality of life so I went private. The service is infinitely better than in the NHS. Would definitely recommend.

I have always had a great experience at this hospital with friendly and helpful reception staff. A MASSIVE highlight for me was meeting Dr Alistair King, what a consummate professsional with fantastic bedside manner, someone who really listens and understands. You really are in good hands here - I live far away but always choose to come to Spire Harpenden should I ever need to see a doctor.

Thank you to Zoe from the self pay team who was amazing today managing an appointment for my daughter. And thank you to the lovely nurse that took the blood samples. My daughter was very anxious, 1st blood test and the nurse put her at ease beautifully, so much so my daughter remained calm and hardly felt a thing. Thank you Spire Harpenden for a taking care of us, we had a warm welcome on arrival and a wonderful experience given the circumstances

Abysmal experience with Mr James Langdon and I would not recommend booking a consultation. He was not welcoming nor friendly. I have since been to another surgeon who I highly recommend.

Nobody picks up the phone! I've been trying to reschedule an appointment for two days, and it's impossible to get hold of anyone! I finally resorted to going in person just to speak to reception (a 40min trip), and they assured me that someone would give me a call. Well, I'm still waiting.

I went into the Spire for 2 nights for spinal surgery. From admit to discharge I was treated with such immense care, respect and professionalism by every member of staff. Porters, nurses, anaesthetists, caterers, physios, they are all a delightful team of truly caring people. I have not found any of the problems getting hold of them by phone which are mentioned below, easy to contact and always ring me back. My entire visit was perfection, and made a really stressful period so much easier to handle. Nurses Debbie and Miriam, physio Louise, anaesthetist Dr. Saravanam, and more people than I can name, took such excellent care and I am indebted to you all.

Had an excellent experience at this hospital for my recent operation. I found each member of staff to be really friendly, helpful and efficient and I couldn’t have been more looked-after. The doctor who carried out my surgery is amazing, and I was so glad to be in her capable hands. Definitely made me feel safe and cared for. Top marks all round.

Dr's and staff on wards are really good. Admin is non existent. My GP didn't even know I my knee replaced until I phoned her. Was told I would get an appointment six weeks after my operation on 23rd June. I haven't even had a call and now 13 weeks have passed.

Arrived for my first of 4 appointments. Told 1 wasn't booked in despite having the letter given to my at a previous appointment. On checking my next 4 appointments none were booked, completely unhelpful reception and a wasted journey.

Disgustingly abysmal service.. I went private to get quick help as I was in agonising pain. Consultant Nana saw me and requested an MRI. The hospital said they will call me back to book it in.. I waited and called.. and waited and called…. It took them 4 weeks and several phone calls from me to chase on the MRI referral to give me an appointment. I drove in pain for the appointment only to be told that they pushed my appointment by 2 days without asking or informing me. Should have stayed with NHS.
