Great food and staff. You can make reservations ahead or just show up. spicy tuna and Philadelphia rolls are great. also the sashimi sampler is really nice.

    1. Things run on the drier side. I had the karaage chicken, gyoza, and gyu don that can be improved on. A recommendation would be cutting the karaage chicken into bigger pieces to preserve the moisture in the chicken better when it is deep fried. 2. Sushi rice lacks seasoning. Good sushi rice needs some acidity, I would suggest putting some sushi rice vinegar for the flavouring. I dipped my sushi into the ponzu side dish the restaurant provided and this solved the issue when I was there. 3. The dry karaage chicken needed a dipping sauce but we weren’t given any. When I asked for mayonnaise which classically goes with karaage chicken they gave me aioli. I would suggest looking into getting the Japanese kewpie mayonnaise to go with the karaage chicken. On the bright side, none of the dishes went terribly wrong with their flavor profile. I really enjoyed my miso ramen, and the waiters were nice to us. This restaurant has potential to become an authentic Japanese eatery.

1 night in cancun. This Japanese restaurant is a dream. Oldest one in town. So traditional, with great interior and the food is awesome, especially the seared tuna tataki.... 🤤

Japanese and Asian cuisine very carefully fixed and outstanding service provided by every single member of the staff to your entire party. Several areas of the restaurant could be used for private functions of no more than 6 to 20 people each. Conveniently located, recently renovated and with very affordable prices. Best place for Asian food and all of the Cancun area.

The foods good, and we wanted to try some more, however we had to cancel because our next order took forever. I kept asking the waiter for our order and he just said "it's coming" which never came. Service and timing so bad on this one. I hardly think we'll come back

We went in for an early dinner and was struggling to understand the menu (we struggle ordering Sushi regardless) and not able to speak hardly any Spanish it was even a bit more difficult.....the entire waiter team were so patient with us and tried to help us understand the menu and take our order. Finally a waiter by the name Miguel came over and was absolutely wonderful in assisting us as he spoke enough English to help us and we so appreciated that he went out of his way to step in and help us so much.. However, the people are NOT the only thing that was outstanding as the food was absolutely amazing and definitely topped some of our favorite places in the states. This restaurant far exceeded our expectations and I cannot express how much we appreciated what you did and they way you treated us.....thanks to all of the hard working and kind folks at Yamamoto for much more than a excellent dinner!

I recently visited this sushi restaurant in Cancun and was blown away by the service and quality of the food. From the moment we walked in, the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. They made sure we had everything we needed and went above and beyond to make our dining experience enjoyable. The sushi itself was very good. The fish was incredibly fresh and tasted amazing. The pork belly was great and the rolls were creative and delicious. Overall, it was one of the best sushi experiences I've had and I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Cancun. Thank you for such a memorable meal!

Excellent, Fresh and delicious! We had a mixed sushi platter and I especially loved the Maya Sushi; a fusion recipe of Mexican tastes and traditional sushi. The place was lovely and the staff was very polite and dedicated to serve the guests as royalty. AND Don’t miss the dessert !

My boyfriend and I found this restaurant with great reviews and thought that we could try it, since both of us are very enthusiastic about Japanese food (my boyfriend lived in Japan for a while). However, the experience is really not good. We ordered the Tuna rice bowl and Gyu Don, the Tuna rice bowl is ok, but the Gyu Don is bad. The rice under the beef is severely undercooked, we told the waiter and they just replaced the rice, even though all the beef sauce was gone. So the replaced rice is very tasteless. When we got the bill, there was no price adjustment, after we asked if we could get a discount on the Gyu Don, they placed a 10% off of the entire bill but it was only 80 pesos off (Gyu Don was 250 pesos). Also they don’t have many drinks and meals ready even though they are on the menu when we were ordering. For the price that this restaurant is charging, the experience is really bad.

Hands down the best Japanese restaurant in the whole state, Yamamoto is a place that really stands out from the rest since the moment you cross the door. With a great design and atmosphere you really feel like in Japan, decoration is amazing and the staff always smiling welcomes you as you go in. Menu is digital but they still have some of the old physical menus which are a nice touch for the experience. We order spicy edamame and salmon sashimi and I was amazed by the quality of the food, the looks and how quick it was delivered. The sushi rolls in this place are insane, definitely great to order a couple for the center to share with everyone, my favorite was the Mayan roll, the best if you are into fried Sushi! I'm definitely coming back to this place and saving it for special occasion with family and loved ones. Don't miss out on this place, you won't regret it!

Opt for the cooked food instead of the sushi. Cute restaurant, moody bathroom. English menu has a few misspellings and I was disappointed that they had no cocktails. Took us a long time to get our food after ordering. The rice bowls were not bad, but had much more rice than meat, and the meat itself was a bit too sweet. Otherwise well cooked and flavorful. The tempura was delicious! The sauce is great and so flavorful. The sashimi was disappointing given the price. The fish is not high quality and still has some tough bits (the sinew? tendons?) in it. I wish I ordered something else!

The food here was BOMB!! The service was top notch and the atmosphere was nice.

Service is decent but can't say the food deserves the raving reviews posted by others. Tonkotsu broth mediocre and noodles taste like instant noodles. The meat is too thick but at least it's soft and relatively tasty. One of those places where you pay for the mood rather than the food

Sushi was okay. Service was great but we had around 8 or more people waiting on our table. The atmosphere was high class. I want to go back to try the ramen. 3 sushi rolls and one mineral water with 10% tip came to 800 pesos.

Almost asked for another one but i was stuffed I also got the pork gyoza which i forgot to take a picture of but they were so good had so much stuffing in it and it was crispy and wow I definitely wanna come back!!

So glad my family visited this restaurant when Japanese food cravings hit. Recently purchased property just a few minutes away and feeling so happy that this restaurant is close by. 100% we will be back. Parking is easy along the street or in back and side roads around the restaurant. Just from the outside you can tell whoever designed the building put a lot of thought into it and even more apparent as you walk in. Gorgeous restaurant. Clean beautiful bathrooms. And the service... shout out to Miguel! You're amazing and you deserve all the tips. If you get Miguel as your server consider yourself lucky. For the limited English he knew he took care of us well and even cracked jokes! Service and crazy fresh seafood along with a stunning atmosphere. This is a fave for us. Can't wait to eat here again! I personally ordered the Una Don (rice bowl with eel) and it was so good with the Shabu Shabu soup we ordered. Piping hot soup is perfect. Come here. You will not regret it!

A great welcome into a perfectly refurbished building. clean, spacious and very comfortable. The service was very attentive and the food was excellent, certainly one of the better Sushi restaurants I have been to in a while.

Everything was good except for disgusting not fresh sashimi

The food is very good here. It isn't simply Japanese food for tourists. I had the salmon don and onigiri and left very satisfied. The prices were also fair, especially considering how touristy Cancun is. Don't expect the quality to be on par with what you'd find in Tokyo but for my purposes it was more than adequate and exceeded my expectations.

An exceptionally tasteful and well-kept place being faulty of only one thing. Too few options for the vegan crowd.
