For $10 we had a personal guide who provided us with an amazing experience with tons of info and history of the Quintana Roo area. Also it was within walking distance of our hotel!!

As a huge archaeology nerd, I was absolutely delighted to see that we had a site within walking distance of our hotel! There isn't a ton of signage, but enough to give you an idea of the folks who lived in this area, what kind of homes they lived in, and what trades they worked in (hint - lots of salt!). Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area!

Take any city bus going away from the downtown. Pay your 12 pesos. Stop at the fancy mall before. Then pay 12 more pesos and continue down to the El Rey sign. It looks closed. But a small stone stair and ramp goes down to the park. Give the attendant your 75 pesos. You will see iguana and Mayan ruins of a small village. There is a clean bathroom and places to sit. What a nice safe way to dip your toe in the bus travels.

It is a relatively small but interesting site that is worth a visit if you are in the Hotel Zone. The entrance fee is cheap, and you have free roam of the site. It can get bit boggy after rains but is easily accessible. The site is also home to a large number of huge iguanas that happily bask in the sun on the ruins or scamper across the grass at speed.

Quiet. Not crowded. Not expensive. If you want to see ruins, but do not wish to go to say Chichen Iza,then this is really good variant to see ruins and not to leave zona turistico and Boulevard Kukulcan. Good enough to feel centuries thru old stones.

Beautiful little spot right in the hotel zone. There were maybe 3 other people when we went, which was amazing considering where we were. We just walked right from our resort up the beach to the public beach and cut across to get there. Think it was about 60 pesos per person.

Loved it! A little archeological site in Cancun touristic beachfront. Calm visit: lots of Iguanas but no crowd, no street vendors. We can peacefully dream about how these Mayan communities lived, constructed their house, temple and edifices outside the forest. Entrance fee is only 55 pesos (2,5 euros). And we can take any bus on the Cancun boulevard for 12 pesos (60 centimes).

Close to the hotel we did check it out. Interesting but also limited information provided. Make sure you do it early in the day otherwise it’s too hot. An older man is walking around offering giving a tour. If you don’t book him he comes back with stupid comments which I found absolutely inappropriate and he should stop doing that. Takes about 30 minutes to visit the site. Best are the animals you can see…

Super easy and cheap public bus ride to a small archeological site in the Hotel Zone. Very inexpensive and worth a short trip if you have time. Also a short walk across the street to the really nice public beach El Rey Playa.

Very natural, quick, non commercial, inexpensive and easy bus access. Self guided tour, kid friendly, lots of iguanas to look at. We saw wild parrots and other birds. Nature seems quite used to the people and you can see close. Can see ruins in 30 mins or stay longer. No food or drink as very natural environment. Peaceful and quiet spot among commercial hub bub of Cancun hotel area - within walking distance of several hotels. Near public beach access bridge.

Nice site. There are a few ruins, but there are no details, so you're just walking around making up things in ur mind lol. There needs to be some type of drainage system put in because water collects in the center where you walk, but the signs say no stepping on the ruins. Be prepared to be eaten alive by mosquitoes, but you'll get to see plenty of iguanas.

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit and the very informative guide who showed us around and explained the history and culture of the Maya. Also enjoyed seeing the iguanas. Recommend using mosquito repellent.

This was a beautiful site. It may be small in size but the historical significance is huge. Carlos provided an informative, personal tour. I enjoyed his anecdotes and great expanse of knowledge. If you are a visitor in Cancun, please make a visit here!

Great little excursion, it was surprisingly quiet, which we enjoyed. A bazillion of iguanas. I saw these fierce little ones fighting and decided keeping a healthy distance would be a good idea. Took us about half an hour to walk through, but wish there were carvings or artifacts exhibited. Also very limited descriptions, so overall nice and worth the visit but a bit lifeless for such an important site. I assume many of these can be found in the museum which is just two kilometers further north.

Smaller site directly in the Hotel zone. Definitely worth visiting, especially in the morning when it's empty and peaceful. We stopped counting the iguanas at 20. The site consists mostly of platforms and not tall structures, but it provides some sense of how the Mayans lived here 1000 years ago. As people mentioned, parking is limited and there are no services other than bathrooms. We paid 55 pesos per adult and kids were free.

The tickets to visit here are very cheap, and you can see many big lizards on the rock. They are very friendly, but one of lizard take my apple away.

Quite the hidden gem within Cancun's hotel zone. Not nearly as expansive as compared to larger archeological sites like Coba, Tulum, or Chitzen Itza, so it doesn't take too much time to visit.

If you don't have time to travel to Chichen Itza or Tulum, this is a nice stop. Iguanas all over! Very peaceful. Parking was tricky.

Amazing! Unlike e.g. the one at the museum, here it is just a large plain with multiple buildings, and you can freely walk between them fully appreciating the structures (and the iguanas of course). It is amazing and impressive, absolutely worth visiting. The entry fee for foreigners is 65 MXN per person, cash only.

El Ray is a great option for those who want to learn about some Mayan history without committing a whole day of their vacation for an excursion out of the hotel zone. Because the plaques at El Ray are limited, I highly recommend paying for a tour guide. Ours was Carlos, he had answers to all our questions and his breadth of knowledge was evident. Our visit was about an hour, it was quiet and not at all crowded. There were quite a few iguanas hanging around the site but they were not bothersome or threatening. I highly recommend visiting the Museo Maya as part of the same outing, the two are a short drive apart and in combination will allow you to see historical architecture and artifacts. El Ray is also just down the street from El Mirador which is a beach outlook point and is a popular spot for a pictures as there is a large Cancun sign.

It wasn't bad. Was a little underwhelming but the kids enjoyed it.

The hike in the sand along the ocean is a biych, but definitely worth it. Cool Mayan ruins right in the hotel zone. You do have to walk through a hotel's pool area to get to the ruins.

Best beach by far in Cancun and it’s not busy at all per the location at which it’s situated. Cristal clear beach with no seaweed and Great for couple and all.. it’s public and has a perfect CANCUN inscription on the beach pavement with an awesome view of the entire beach. GET THERE EARLY FOR BEACH UMBRELLA AND CHAIR.. if not you will end up waiting for 20/30min for free space.

If you’re in the area, definitely stop here for an hour or two. For the experience you get, this is a great deal - the ruins are very well preserved, there is adequate shade, and iguanas everywhere.

  • 5/5 Andrew L. 9 months ago on Google
Very cheap about 70pesos-5USD, not as impressive as tour sites but at price its a bargain. The iguanas are amazing, there are so many.

This is a great place to spend 30 minutes in the hotel zone. Although the ruins are small it’s an easy bus ride. Just get off at playa delfine. The kudos will enjoy all of the iguanas and it cost just a couple dollars.

Such an awesome site, definitely an overlooked gem in the Hotel Zone. Right across the road from Playa Delfines. Carlos, the tour guide, is the BEST and really knows his stuff! Stop by for a relaxing afternoon.

Wonderful little place! The kids had a blast, walking around the ruins, and seeing the iguanas. It’s all outdoors, kid friendly, it contains the ruins of a small community with a few homes, galleries, altars and communal buildings, there are plaques with some info on them.
