The experience at Riu Cancun was not a pleasant one at all. From the moment we arrived at the hotel to be accommodated we were told that we would have to wait 3 hours because our room was not ready. Going over it after all the time lost with part of the luggage behind us we end up in the so-called 5-star room. Terrible towels, brown, shabby, and used bows, the only "equipment" the bathroom soap had absolutely nothing left, let alone bathrobes or slippers, when even the shower gel was missing from that plastic dispenser broken, torn sockets, the smell in the moldy room, a king-sized bed was actually a bed made up of two other people. The only beautiful part is the view from the balcony on the 15th floor. Otherwise horrible. About the staff, the attitude leaves much to be desired, a totally aggressive and defiant approach in the proportion of 80%. Cleanliness done in a lax and totally careless manner. Good food, the only thing bothered is that it is not taken into account that it is lunch time and it sweeps right next to you while you eat. I requested a change after the first two days because I paid for a 15 day stay. As a result, they moved us to Riu peninsula, the room was much better, more spacious, but the rest of the management was identical, nothing out of the ordinary. I do not recommend this hotel in any form, conditions that are far too poor in the context of the 5 stars that claim to be their teeth.

10 night stay in the hotel. The best part about the hotel are the staff, they cant do enough for you. Constantly running around day and night, some of the nicest and most polite hotel staff I have ever seen. The hotel grounds are big, plenty room and enough sun loungers for everybody when taking into account the loungers on the beach. Food wise, the buffet restaurant is good. Its what you expect at an all inclusive, breakfast was probably the best of all meals there, followed by lunch and dinner. But for dinner I would recommend the Italian anyway, the food there is very good for an all inclusive. The steakhouse is also worth a visit, I went twice and the first time I was really impressed but not so much the second time. The location is also very good. Five minutes from Coco bongos and the main strip. there is also a supermarket around the corner, do not use the shopping "plaza" across the road as they will rip you off. The room itself was good, we were on floor 13 so didn't have much of a view however it didn't bother us too much. Housekeeping do a great job of keeping things clean and tidy both in the room and in the hotel lobby etc. The staff really do go above and beyond. Well worth a visit.

This hotel has one of the best beaches in Cancun. The water was so clear and clean. You can snorkel and see some beautiful fish. There was plenty of beach chairs without having to reserve ahead of time. The property for the most part was very clean. It is an older property and the employees work very hard keeping it clean. It is an all inclusive for food and drinks. No complaints there , everything was pretty tasty and fresh. The hotel is centrally located and near shops. The view from our room was absolutely breath taking. The rooms are very spacious and the beds were very comfortable. The only negative for us was the smoking. It is a smokers paradise and it’s hard to find a place to relax without encountering the smoke. The hotel has good entertainment every night and very talented people. We would consider staying again at this property and would recommend.

We have just returned from a two week stay. We had a fabulous time. The food we found excellent, so much choice, the staff were all outstanding, and couldn't do enough for you, and were always smiling🙂 Everything was always kept so clean. Rooms very spacious, beds were extremely comfortable, cleaned everyday. The entertainment we found to be very professional, which we enjoyed sitting watching after our evening meal. Plenty of area's to sit and watch the world go by. There was plenty of choice on where to sunbathe, you had the quiet pools and if you wanted a bit of fun, you could go to the area where the pool bar was. So much choice, if you enjoy a drink , even in your room. To sum it up, we had a fantastic time in a beautiful hotel😀

This is a good all-inclusive hotel, but not great. Our room was a junior "suite" (not a real suite), but the walls were made of ugly concrete that was painted white. Gross. The in-room phone didn't work, nor did the ceiling fan. Also, there was no fan in the tiny room where the toilet was located, and the light in the shower didn't work. The wifi was pretty good, no complaints there. The level of noise here is quite high. This is NOT a quiet or romantic hotel. It is easy to hear what other hotel guests are doing in their rooms, both on the sides and above your room. I could easily hear the people in the room above me showering while I was lying in bed. Everywhere is loud, most of the time. The pool party starts at about 10 AM with music and people using microphones, and the noise from the show/theater area lasts until 11 PM. The show noise can easily be heard from the suites, even with the outside door closed. The "hot" tub at this hotel was very, very cold. If you want a nice hot soak after a long day, forget about it here! The pools were slightly warm. The ocean is cold. No, the hotel is not at fault for the ocean being cold. The towels both in the room and at the pool were brown (in-room) and light orange at the pool, which indicates that none of the towels at this hotel are washed with bleach as they should be. Also, the towels in the room were extraordinarily low quality. The liquor at all the bars is very low-end, as is the beer and wine. Do NOT expect single malt Scotch or good tequila here! No Corona too, which was very odd. The Japanese restaurant was absolutely terrible, as was the steak restaurant. Very low quality beef with A LOT of gristle that was cooked incorrectly, and bad noodles. Almost inedible. The employees we encountered were all very accommodating and friendly. Some speak English better than others. Best to practice your Spanish! The blinds in our room didn't close all the way, which led to a lot of light coming into the room as soon as the sun came up every morning. I would stay here again, but I would get the cheapest room they have. The junior suite was not worth it.

THE ONLY REVIEW YOU NEED! I've stayed here twice now and decided to leave my 2 cents. This resort is amazing for the price you pay. I've stayed up and down the hotel zone and it has by far the best stretch of beach if you like swimming. There is staff out there at all times cleaning any seaweed that may have washed in (there's hardly any, the beach is perfect). There are employees everywhere all over the property to help you with whatever the issue. The drinks/buffet are what you'd expect at an all inclusive. We are not picky people, I thought it was great with plenty options. There isn't a bad view in the hotel. Ask for a room higher up away from the pool, you're set. I would not recommend this resort to families although they do their best with those types of activities to keep the young ones busy. I recommend this resort for couples, groups of friends and singles looking for a good time. Spend your money here with confidence

The lobby exceeded my expectations, and me and my family were immediately catered with drinks and hospitality the moment we walked into the hotel. Nothing good lasts. We run around the entire area of the hotel trying to find our room, which we found was in a different building. After chasing our own tails finding our room, we entered and were immediately blasted with a moist wind, the room was super damp, probably because it hadn’t been occupied in quite a while. After, we were disgusted to see that the toilet was STAINED YELLOW! It was putrid, I had to wipe it up and down, all over. Not to mention the shower, the shower head was tilted to the right, and the water was spraying over the wall, when you went and turned the shower head to face towards you, it moved back to the right. Not only that the temperature fluctuates constantly, it’s never consistent, cold, then boiling hot. The food was extremely dry, I felt like I was eating cardboard. The performance and show outside our room was extremely loud and irritating, you could focus on nothing with mariachi, opera, and singing in the background. The only good thing about this place is the drinks and the view.

Great value hotel. Very fun, with many younger guests and lots of energy energy. Many activities and games. The staff is attentive and the food is delicious. Don't book there more expensive all inclusive resorts. They are almost all empty and boring. This one is vibrant, in a great location, and won't break the bank. The rooms are a bit dated, but you won't spend much time in the rooms anyway.

I loved the setup of this hotel. The views of the ocean from our room as well as the pool deck was amazing. And the service that we received was amazing as well. Thing is well. But the food was absolutely horrible and limited on drinks. Also the AC went out In our room and it was horrible trying to convince then to move us rooms. I also found that they stole my earrings and once reported I haven't heard anything about it since. I would never come back here and I would never tell anyone to come here either

Stayed here for 4 nights and will go through the good and bad. Good: Rooms are spacious - bed was comfortable, balcony overlooking beach was beautiful Beach is gorgeous - feels like your own private section of the beach with clear water. Pools are fantastic - also have tons of music and activities Staff are friendly and attentive - did not meet a single staff member without a smile on their face Simple to walk to the downtown area - bars and clubs are easy to walk over too Bad: Check in was a nightmare - my CC number had changed since I had booked the room a few months ago, and this created a 3 hour process of having to rebook my room and refund my old booking. Apparently they need to CC number to match identically to the one in your booking, and if you're rooming with someone who booked the hotel, you won't be able to check in until the person with that CC arrives. Front desk was friendly, but this took an unreasonable amount of time for them to work through. Selection of liquor was poor - I wasn't expecting top shelf liquor, but the tequila was tough to stomach and they would not add whiskey to our in-room dispensers. Airport transfer - RIU apparently does not directly manage this, and it made it very difficult. Our pick up did not account for our flight changing (even though we called and let them know weeks before) and when we asked about the return bus, we were told it "might" show up and they couldn't tell us anything else. Very frustrating. Middle of the road: Food - buffet was below average to me - only a handful of decent options. Restaurants were not bad. If I stayed here again, I would probably bring my own bottle or two of liquor and coordinate a taxi to/from the airport.

Just come back from a two week holiday here I have to say it was absolutely lovely from the hotel itself and especially all the staff. We didn’t come across anyone who wasn’t willing to help in some kind of way they were always very pleasant and very welcoming The hotel has lots to offer and is very spacious with chill out areas if you need a rest from the entertainment side of things. (You get no hassle from any of they if you don’t want to join in neither) The rooms were very spacious any kept clean and stocked up on a daily basis. As for the meal options well there was loads to choose from albeit the usual you expect from being all inclusive but it was very tasty an fresh made all the time. The steak house and the Italian were rather nice too. Overall we had a really enjoyable pleasant holiday and the beaches are to die for

It's for the younger crowd. Staff are amazing. Food is good for an all-inclusive. It's a shame the restaurant staff still have to wear masks. If you want a quiet holiday don't stay here. This is a party hotel. Good location for nightlife outside

Here’s an honest review from a couple day 3/7. I don’t know why this hotel gets so much negative reviews. We absolutely love it so far. Let’s start with food: people bash the food but we love it theirs countless options. The buffets are huge and have something for everyone. People say they get sick of it cause well if you eat the same 6 restaurants/buffets 7 days 3x a day, well ya anything would get sickening in that sense. But don’t worry theirs many walking distance Mexican culture restaurants close by for a change up. Rooms: We upgraded to a suite when we got here definitely worth it. Very spacious and the ocean view from the balcony is very nice. Service/Staff: The service is top notch, always someone cleaning and everyone is willing to help. The English is very good from all the staff here if your not familiar with Spanish. Swimming/activities: Pools and beach are awesome and theirs always interactive activities going on during the day for the guests. Addition request: The only thing I’d like them to add is maybe some food stands for late night after the restaurants close, maybe tacos/nachos/etc. Overall outstanding resort and would recommend to any groups. Would stay again.

Stayed here 6 years ago and it was great. Stayed there this month (May) and it was horrible and run down! Toilet didn't work and bathroom smelled like a sewer. Curtains were falling off, TV didn't work, no hot water, sink was clogged, sliding screen door didn't work, a lot of damage. Hotel is in desperate need of repair! No security....partying going on all hours of the night. Doors closed very loudly. Had to pack up and change rooms the first day....our view was not of the ocean as requested but the apartment building next door! Will not be returning.

Room was fine. Seemed to have a little mold on the walls which I'm sensitive to. Drinks from the bars seem really watered down. Japanese restaurant was the best of all the places to eat. Buffet had good selection and food was pretty good. Had the toughest steak ever at the steak house. But from the check in desk, to the restaurants and bars, the staff was great. And it was a short walk to more restaurant, bar, and entertainment options outside to resort.

This is one of the best all inclusive hotels I have stayed. This hotel is very well placed, you have plenty of shopping stores and activities right outside the hotel. The cleaning crew of this hotel is just amazing. The food was also incredible, nothing bad to say. Our favorite during our stay was the Japanese restaurant. Which I really recommend trying. The bartenders always made great drinks and not to strong, so that's a plus because you can have more drinks. I definitely recommend this hotel, you will not be disappointed.

The food was good my fave was the Japanese tho, the frozen Margaritas I am going to miss a lot!!! I will definitely be coming back too see you all, miss you all already. Best team working in this hotel.

The resort overall is nice and friendly. The lobby was very clean and smelled fresh. However, my room was very moist and humid inside followed with a strong sewer smell. It was terrible, I complained but nothing was done. The smell lasted my ENTIRE stay. The air barely worked in my room which is probably why it was so humid. The bathroom also had an unpleasant stench as well. After showers I was still hot and sweaty. The food was not that great, but I didn’t expect 5 star meals from an all inclusive resort sadly. Overall the staff was nice but my room experience will prevent me from staying here again.

Initial impression of hotel was disappointing when we arrived at 0200 hr. Elevators slow and dark, room was uninviting, dorm room in appearance, bed and pillows were uncomfortable. The best part of the room was the bathroom. Our impression of hotel changed the next day after having a yummy breakfast in our stomach. The variety of food at the hotel was very good along with the services. The one thing we found refreshing at this hotel was the ability to have self serve wine and draft beer at the buffet. Staff at the pool had unlimited energy to involve guests both young and old to participate in fun activities. Beach was clean and spacious with activities for guests. Services at hotel were both friendly and efficient. The internet is fast and reliable.

We had such a great time staying at Riu Cancun in April. The food was great and a good variety, especially if you have food allergies. The entertainment team was superb. There were so many different fun activities throughout the day and night. The staff were all super friendly and welcoming. The hotel was also super clean. There are many different pools to swim in. My favorite was the infinity pool that overlooks the beautiful, clean, clear Sea and beach. I’ll definitely be staying at a RIU resort again!

The entire hotel has been designed with daylight, making you feel like you're in a midcentury-designed library at a college. In short, the ambiance is far from cozy. The rooms are poorly designed and lack tasteful decor. the lighting is monotonous, and we had to switch to another room because the air conditioning wasn't working, leaving us roasted like a chicken with a slight fever on the first night. All the wet areas are covered with "carefully selected tiles" that increase the slipperiness twofold. Throughout the day, you find yourself doing artistic ice skating in flip flops. Some employees are given mops, and they spend their day trying to dry the water left by people coming from the pool or the bathroom. The staff is extremely polite, helpful, and friendly, but I believe this is mostly due to the inherent nature of hardworking Mexican people, rather than any training or guidance provided by the hotel. The food is designed in a Vegas-style manner, and there are also à la carte restaurants available. It can be said that the quality of the food is quite good for a vacation package like this. However, some employees don't speak English at all, and it would be beneficial to either teach them basic-level English or keep them in the background. While enjoying some romantic moments with my spouse by the pool, abiding by general moral standards, we were warned by one of the employees through a hand gesture (a chopping motion across the neck). It is quite humiliating to be reprimanded in the presence of your spouse, with whom you are allowed and expected to be intimate while on vacation. Unfortunately, fueled by alcohol, we had a disagreement. Later, it turned out that the employee was trying to convey that the pool service had ended. This can be seen as a misinterpretation of gestures between different cultures. However, the person assigned to this task should have verbally communicated that the pool was closing. The expression on the young person's face was particularly misleading. Ultimately, with the contribution of my spouse to the situation, the hotel staff realized the misunderstandings in the atmosphere, and the situation was resolved amicably. The presence of bodyguards around us, although tension did not escalate to physicality, prevented potentially more serious consequences. The fault, naturally, lies partly with me due to the influence of alcohol. However, it is also a self-criticism, that the hotel management failed to handle the situation well and did not provide their employees with the opportunity to improve their communication skills. Throughout the first three days of our stay, the positive interactions we had with the staff, combined with my respect for their efforts, led me to leave generous tips that often exceeded my budget. This also resulted in some of the employees coming to support us during the incident, which I believe allowed the insensitive manager to come to his senses. I don't think I will come to this hotel again. If I had the chance, I would pay a little extra and choose a more cozy place. All-inclusive vacations like this one were a wrong choice from the beginning, including my own preference.

Location and service is fantastic and all staff are more than happy to help. However, make sure you check out later than 12 if you want to eat as they can’t wait to rip your wrist band off and laugh that you cannot eat before you leave. Although rooms are nice, please ensure you check your bed as we discovered a lot of mould of the mattress and bottom sheet which can’t be good for you. Other than that I would recommend but certain policy’s need to be reviewed hence the lower score.

Rooms had a very nice view, but they did smell a little(humidity kind of smell, nothing they could do anything about). A/C worked just fine. The beach was amazing, no seaweed at all. Water was very blue and beautiful. The food was good, but we did get tired of the buffet after a few days, A la carte meals were nice. There was a bit of wait time for a few of them. There were drunk people all over 😅 and when you are with small kids that kind of worries you, but nothing bad happened. I would definitely recommend and return.

Decent all inclusive hotel. Don’t expect 5 star professional service here. You’ll get what you paid for. Rooms looked totally different than the pictures shown in a negative way. I originally booked a king size bedroom through Expedia for my stay and they gave me 2 twin size beds combined. I complained and thank god the receptionist changed my room the next day. Buffet was decent no complaints. They need a better system to book reservations for the specialty restaurants. The current system is you need to arrive the day off eating at 6pm just to secure yourself to eat there. I’ll give the benefit of the doubt and rate it 5/5 but realistically like a 3/5

The best way to describe this hotel is "TIRED." I would not rate this hotel as a 5 starts there are many aspects which require attention but having looked at other reviews anything brought to the attention of the manager are not addressed just a load of generic responses. There are, however, good points to this hotel, the place is cleaned regularly and the staff are really friendly and helpful. The view from the sea front side is great for insta pics. There aren't many hotels with a better location for nightlife, and you get an all-inclusive mini bar in your room for pre drinks on nights out 😁. To conclude this review, either the hotel has an overhaul or the start rating is dropped to reflect its condition, which will obviously impact the price you pay.

When you first walk in you are welcomed with a refreshing non alcoholic drinks. The rooms are a little dated but you won't be spending much time in them. It's a beautiful resort right off the beach, the white sands are soft and there are 4 pools that'll keep you occupied and relaxed.

Nice place good location. Front desk is not as welcoming and friendly as other employees. Food needs improvement and rooms can stand to be renovated. Sports bar was not clean and foos was old and cold with limited options.I would have expected room service to have more items on the menu. Keys were deactivated and no I didn’t have it near my phone. This was very frustrating. On a positive note rooms were cleaned daily and housekeeping did a really good job. Shows were decent. Enough going on there’s no real need to leave the resort. Service staff members were phenomenal.

Amazing holiday, we had the best time! I would definitely say managed expectations is key. Good value for money, the hotel puts on free foam, beach and silent parties which were amazing. I would say if you was 20-50ish and just wanted a fun laid back holiday this hotel was perfect (probably a little bit lacking if you want 5 star luxury) Please be wary of your items poolside, unfortunately there was a bag theft and we had a few personal items stolen while at lunch but if you are vigilant and don’t leave bags unattended you should be fine. Also try to avoid the floor with the weird barrier over the balcony (you will see what I mean in other reviews) Side note that I wish someone said to me- make sure you try all the restaurants straight away, we missed a few of them because we waited until the end of the holiday :) they are so good!

Fantastic hotel with a great vibe. All the staff are friendly especially Karla the cleaner for the men's and women's toilet beside the sport bar. Karla was so happy and always greets with a smile. I enjoyed the aqua water classes with Rum and the main trainer, although it was a work out. I loved international and Michael Jackson night. Also the bars and the restaurant are 2 minutes walk away. The scenery is stunning, I can't wait to come back.

Check in and check out went smoothly, and everything about the stay was great. Staff were all friendly and efficient. The room was very nice with a view of the ocean. The food and drinks were great, so many choices and well prepared, from breakfast to dinner. They had shows at night, too. There was really no need to leave the hotel, it is all inclusive after all, but if you want to do some day trips, they also provide that service, with a variety of activities to choose from. All in all a great experience.

We went to the Riu Cancun for our honeymoon and found it to be a fantastic experience. Arrived 9th April 2022 for 11 nights The staff were really friendly and helpful. From the cleaners, bar staff and waiters. The food was lovely and so much choice. There was a Japanese restaurant, Italian, Steakhouse and buffet and the buffet served so much variety there was something for everyone. Our room was very clean and we had a lovely sea view. There was a 24 hour Sports bar with burgers, hot dogs and other snacks and drinks too. We would definitely go back again.

Just spent 5 nights here and no complaints at all. Beautiful views, clean rooms, cold A/C, great shower and whirlpool bath in the ocean view suite. Staff was very friendly, quick to respond when we needed something delivered to the room. Great bartenders, food was good, nothing outstanding but we never had a meal we didn’t enjoy. Would definitely stay at a Riu property again. Oh, well I guess one minor inconvenience, the room key cards are very easily demagnetized, I had to get new keys everyday. I just started going to the front desk before even going to the room knowing they were probably not going to work, not a big deal though!

Beautiful resort! Very friendly service and plenty to do at and around the hotel. The rooms were clean and had great views of the ocean. This was my first time traveling to Cancun and I felt very safe here as well. Only downside was probably the food, which was just okay. The buffet was better than most of the restaurants and always seemed freshly prepared and clean.
