Terrible people. ONE lady who worked during the day was nice and accommodating. The manager and the night guy both think it’s OK to come into your room while you are out and turn off the AC. They don’t mind that it’s 80 degrees in your room now, as long as they save a little money on their electric I’ll. The place is pretty basic which was fine with me since I’m staying in the Hotel Zone the last three days of my trip. But if you value your privacy then don’t stay here. No safe to lock up valuables so either take everything with you all the time or expect that staff (at least those two guys) may be looking though your underwater pile for all we know. There are too many people in Cancun who are just here to take advantage of foreigners, we don’t need the same kind of treatment from the staff at the hotel if you choose to stay here. They are very unprofessional.

Nice location, downtown Cancun. Rooms are clean, beds comfortable. WIFI in the rooms is nil or weak. You need to stay at the reception to have good WIFI. Lots of vegetation, LOTS OF MOSQUITOS. Staff is nice except a young man working at reception. Very disdainful attitude, refusing to speak any English. Patricia from reception helped us to have a great stay in Cancun.

We absolutely loved our stay here. Everyone who worked here was so kind and caring, especially the sweet woman at the front desk. The location was perfect if you are someone who is not seeking the tourism experience but rather the local experience. My husband and I would easily stay here again!

Clean and good rooms, not the top of the top but it’s perfect for one night when you just arrive to Cancun and before beginning a road trip. The atmosphere is very warming, and the peoples are so very kind !

Pros: - Convenient access to ADO centro bus terminal. - Near to many restaurants. - Friendly staff. - Cool jungle aesthetic; like you're living in a secret green oasis. - Spacious room (can exercise inside the room). - Value for money. - Has a swimming pool and massage parlour. - Quiet. - Free breakfast included. Cons: - A cockroach ruined my stay here. Would give the place a much higher review if not for the insect. - Loads of mosquitoes and millipedes due to the tropical, wet climate.

We really enjoyed this stay! The atmosphere delivers everything you see in the photos; a lush courtyard with rooms winding up around it. It has a very intimate feeling to it that transports you away from downtown while actually keeping you within walking distance of many options. The rooms are cozy and nicely appointed. The staff were very pleasant and the complementary breakfast was appreciated. There are more options too if the complementary menu isn't sufficient. The hotel has many nods to their "Eco" brand, including solar panels and the fact that the AC does not run when you aren't in the room. I think it strikes a good balance, with our only complaint being that the hot water was fairly cool in our room. We would have liked to do a longer stay here to enjoy the space fully, so we'll keep it in mind for the future!

Absolutely beautiful place. I would stay here again without a second thought. The staff are all wonderful and super friendly. Our Spanish is not very good and they were very helpful. The rooms were clean and very comfortable. This place is an oasis. The central courtyard is a beautiful collection of trees and plants. There's even a resident possum that you may get to see. The pool was a welcome place to cool down. Breakfast was included and was very good with adequate and tasty choices. For people travelling that don't want to stay in a resort and would rather be immersed more in local culture this is a great spot to stay. It was walking distance to ADO, supermarkets, local buses, taxis, and so many choices for food. Going to the Plaza de la Palapas was a high point for local foods and happenings.

From the time I read about this unique Hotel, I wanted to stay there and love my stay. The moment I arrived at the Hotel, I loved the wonderful appearance, the many huge trees, the sound of the birds and the general look and feel of nature surrounding you, a precious little jungle in Downtown Cancun Mexico. AFTER checking in, the many problems experienced overwhelmed the expectations. NOTE TO THE NEW OWNERS: These are common “comforts” travelers expect nowadays and in their absence any hotel stay becomes uncomfortable and disappointing: 1. STRONG SHOWER - When water pressure in a shower is very weak, a shower head that has a narrow pattern enable one to be able to get wet and rinse-off the soap. The completely RUSTED OUT SHOWER HEADS created a dismal experience not being able to feel clean after the weak water stream spraying all over the shower stall, instead of my body. 2. USABLE WIFI INSIDE THE ROOMS - Showing that the Hotel has WiFi, should mean there is usable WiFi signal INSIDE THE ROOMS – not just in the Courtyard. There was NO Internet access du to the WiFi signal fluctuating from 1 to 2 bars at best. I spoke to the Manager and he clearly does NOT understand the difference between WiFi speed and signal strength. The Hotel needs to get stronger WiFi equipment and position them differently to ensure strong signal inside the rooms. 3. ENGLISH LANGUAGE TV PROGRAMMING - Catering to tourists from the USA, Canada and most European Countries (Except Spain) the TV service should provide the primary ENGLISH LANGUAGE Channels, like BBC, CNN, FOX, NBC, ABC, CBS and some free Movie Channels. Providing only a handful of Spanish language local Mexican channels is inconsiderate. It appears the new owners are renovating the hotel, but seems like their priorities are wrong. I would expect that lower-expense items, like: 1. New shower heads 2. Stronger WiFi devices 3. Few English language channels Would be handled first to ensure basic visitor “Comforts”, before other major renovations are handled. Summary – 1. If the above basic comforts are handled, I would highly recommend the Hotel and stay there the next time I visit Cancun. 2. Without these basic comforts getting fixed, I would never stay there again and warn tourists to consider these problems before staying.

Very beautiful hotel for a very affordable rate. It has a beautiful tropical garden and is in a quiet, safe neighborhood close to the airport bus station.

This was an absolutely enjoyable experience. Very nice stay. If you want to be outside of the tourist trap/hotel zone but yet want easy access to things then this is your place. Thank you so much to all for our wonderful stay at El Rey Del Caribe. ❤

We had to find an alternative accommodation when our flight home was delayed over Christmas. I found this hotel online and am so happy. It's in a good location, waking distance to some stores, and the local busses. Our room was adorable, with a small kitchen. The building itself is really nice, and there's a beautiful courtyard with a pool and sitting areas. They also have a complimentary home cooked breakfast, which was delicious. I highly recommend this location

If you really want to feel/be in Mexico then Stay here if you come here with entitlements then go to you all inclusive bubble fake hotels. This is a hotel that offers what you just need 1 Green environment, 2 Very clean rooms, Warm water - AC units were working. 3 Accommodating local breakfast. 4 Their staff is very welcoming, helpful, friendly (All my requests were answered and provided - People (Foreigners) need to learn how to ask) 5 Hotel is well located in Cancun - Close to Local Markets / Transportation / Local restaurant / and very safe. Hotel offers messages and yoga classes- The building is unique - it very authentic - I love sitting in the common area listen to nature during the day and night. It is a great place for the ones looking for authenticity. Management please continue providing this great service . Stayed here with my family (Wife and 2 Teenagers) , other family members stay in other hotels nearby and every time they came and visit us they fell in love with this hotel (Too bad there was no vacancy to bring all my family members) . Any way we will be back.

Overall, this is a great hotel at a great price in the heart of Cancun. While the amenities and rooms are a mild 4 stars, the customer service makes this a 5 star review. TLDR; hotel is beautiful, clean, has plenty of amenities and staff is excellent. Only flaw is transportation if you plan on taking tour buses Transportation: 3/5 While there is an ADO station nearby, its crowded and has very limited times post Covid. You'll find better luck on the R-1/R-2 buses to travel to the hotel zone going southwest down Ave. Tulum. For travel outside Cancun, DO NOT trust the tour buses when they say they will pick you up at your hotel; they only do that for hotel zones passengers. If you do not feel comfortable taking city buses , bargaining with taxis, or renting a car, this is not the hotel for you. Atmosphere: 6/5 Absolutely beautiful to wake up and to see the vegetation in the courtyard with the sunlight trickling through. Plenty of birds and lizards going about. It's a very authentic feel you won't get anywhere else in another hotel. Amenities: 4/5 Breakfast included, yoga classes, spa (extra $), full sized beds, TV, fridge, camping stove burners and AC (air conditioning). TV and fridge did not work. For AC, 3.5/5 this is an eco hotel, so the AC is not crazy and will not freeze your room. But given the high temps in Mexico, you will be glad to have it. There is also a high speed fan that helps a ton. Note that your room key is connected to the AC, so when you leave the AC will turn off. For breakfast, 4/5 they have a simple but tasty breakfast, hot cakes, fruit, tea, etc. I would note to eat early because they cut up the fruit early and leave it out on top of the coolers in the kitchen. The fruit will be warm if you wake up late and won’t taste that good. Cleanliness 5/5 The beds were made every morning and everything was very clean upon arrival. Nothing better after a long day of travel than laying in fresh sheets Customer Service 5/5 Unfortunately, due to Covid, our original reservation could not be made (non refundable). However the owner Eduardo was very nice and called internationally to check in and granted us 3/5 days to book for another time. On arrival, staff was always friendly and helpful. Even the security guard got us forks for takeout! Overall was very impressed.

A very Nice stadig! Cancun is full of hotels, but in the city center is where you get the best and most local experience. We Are talking a small oasis where you can fell desolated in the big city. Very close to high-end and low-end restuarants and street vendors, so you can get what you disire. We fundet 4 x Tacos el pastor for 50 mxn (4 usd) that where great and 2 x pizza for 450 mxn ( 20 usd) which was local sourced ingredients. So no matter if you Are on high or low budget, This hotel is great. The inside jungle has 2 possums, many birds and lizards, so taking a swim in the pool is an adventure. Breakfast is also very tasty, cleaning is good and the personal is to be trusted.

The hotel is in the middle of Cancun with parking, and the rooms are so good. The shower maybe needs to improve a little, but everything else was good. The hotel facilities are not so well mantained, even they are good they need to improve.

I suspect “eco” in this context means hasn’t been updated since 1984. Between the not quite cool enough AC, the precariously attached squeaky ceiling fan, and the daylight bright lights outside the room, sleeping was spotty at best. The calcified shower head spits at water at terminal velocity, so if your into bruising showers, this is definitely the place. To top off, we had an early flight. We came out to find no attendant and the gates firmly locked. Upon finding no one to leave the key with, I returned it to the room and locked it inside. When an attendant was finally found to open the front gates, he refused to without the room key, which was now safe inside the room. He became quite aggressive about getting the key regardless of our insistence that he would now need to retrieve it himself. He holds up a large keychain and proceeds to pick through keys while our taxi to the airport is waiting. Finally we insist that he opens the gate for us to make our flight while he picks through his keys on his own time. Our last impression of the place was of an angry man waving his arms at us and telling us to just go. What a high note to end a positively wonderful vacation on.

Comfortable beds, the rooms were large, nice and clean. Loved the green spaces. The aircon doesn't go too low as it's an eco hotel, but it was fine to sleep with a sheet. The only disappointing thing was that they had no vegan options for breakfast, which was surprising. Thankfully we asked for a cooking pan and we were able to make our own breakfast in our room, great to have that option!
