This is a ok hotel if you're a solo traveler who wants to get to Isla Morales (it's a 5minute walk to the small jety where the catamaran goes to the island) or maybe a quick swim in a pool. However half the time the pool (one adults, one children's) was green - but it had rained the night I arrived. But the water was cloudyish on other days. Could barely see a few metres with goggles. Their is no bar / music at the pool. The room I stayed in was very big. The bathroom had a nasty smell from the drain in the shower / bathroom floor that was awful. But sticking one of the many small towels or something over it and running the shower / tap and it thankfully went away! As the hotel is half empty - maybe stagnant water in the pipes. Wifi worked in the garden, by the pool and in my room on the 4th floor. Was fast enough to watch 720p Youtube a few times I tried - so perfectly good enough! The staff were friendly. But be expected to pay $91 (the full day amount) if you've arrived early for your room! Check-in is not until 3pm - and they mean 3pm. Don't ask at 2.50 if the room is ready! They have a basic level of English which was enough. A manager was kind on the day one of my trips didn't turn up for 40minutes, tried to call their office number on his mobile! The room has free AC which is nice, quick and powerful. A small balcony. The view over the back garden/pools is nice and quiet. Probably better than the front/street side. No noise apart from the occasional heavy door bang. They're not on springs. The electronic door lock was fine. Someone said theirs didn't lock from inside - but mine was very good though it did de-magnetise so I had to get it turned on twice again at reception. Just a 2minute hassle with these card things. No issues with cleanliness in the room or bathroom. Cleaner changed towels each day and bed sheet and they were spotless. She was great! The breakfast is done at the italian restaurant 10 metres from the front door. But it's realllllly basic. There is 2 cereal dispensers. Both have Frosties in them! I asked if they could get something else. He said in all seriousness like "fruit loops"? What about something without sugar!!! Rice crispies, cornflakes, bran flakes, porridge? They not heard of these? Then there's the same each day: watermelon (very nice), tomato soup (breakfast?), some weird crisps and black beans, cinamon pancakes and scrambled eggs with tiny bits of ham. Some bread rolls that aren't very nice. There's a coffee, milk water and a weird orange drink that is definitely not real orange juice. I was at a german all-inclusive last year that had 5-10 options of everything! 4 soft drinks, 5 plus fruits, 7 or so types of hot meal. This is not that place! It's basic with little choice. They refill the food when they want to - not when it runs out. Waited 20 minutes for more cinnamon pancakes one day! Almost as long for watermelon on another. The guy explained if we keep filling it it'll run out before the end of the breakfast as people will just keep eating it! But most of the time it was quiet with 5-15 people so wasn't running out that fast! On the last day a waiter dropped a glass - he made a very poor attempt at sweeping up the bits. I kept spotting more as I walked past each time and pointing them out - he picked them up. The third time the piece was about 2 inches in size! Luckily nobody in bare feet / babies crawling on the floor! So yeah - a bit causal! Stuff that would get a waiter reprimanded in a quality place! Anyway - no bad stomach, so can't really complain eh! The water was filled from a proper giant bottle - not tap water! Most guests are from Mexico, not American or European. Maybe priced out of the high-end all-inclusives in their own country? Make sure to book Nexus or another company for your hotel transfer!!! Nexus are amazing. $40 return. A text to confirm your collection time. The airport taxis charged someone I knew $110 for a one way journey from the airport - a 15 mile journey! You have been warned!

Travelers, this may be what you're looking for. Pros: conveniently located next to an Italian restaurant with basic free breakfast for guests, a good taqueria, a convenience store, and a family owned deli. Right across the street from a ferry to Isla Mujeres and a small theater. Located in the northern part of the Hotel Zone, which means it's a short ride to downtown where you can find the restaurants and businesses the locals enjoy. Friendly staff, relatively affordable rates. Cons: wifi is slow and a tad unreliable, staff don't all speak English, no refrigerator, no easy access to ATMs, the toilet was hard to flush, and I briefly did not have water in the bathroom (but they fixed it quickly) If you're an explorer with basic Spanish looking for a solid base of operations that won't break the bank, the Calypso has my recommendation.

BED BUGS, FLEAS AND ROACHES. I AND MY WIFE CHECKED IN AND CHECKED OUT WITHIN 10 MINUTES. WHEN I TOLD THE FRONT DESK GUY ABOUT THE INSECTS, HE SAID "I KNOW". SO, THERE IT IS.

My family and I spend 4 days there in a Cancun trip for thanksgiving and it was okay. As we were mostly out on tours we didn’t enjoy that much the hotel besides to sleep only. Anyways if it’s a tour travel I could recommend it since you are going to sleep and they give you the basics. If you are planning a relaxing trip, definitely get a all inclusive resort. I give them 3 starts because the staff was courteous and kind and helped us when we needed a room for 3 adults instead of one at the last minute. Be aware that the reservation team never replied even when I emailed them 2 weeks in advance to change my reservation. Thanks.

This is a beautiful hotel! Don't listen to anyone! Great location near stores, cafes, exchange offices. And most importantly, within walking distance of the ultramodern ferry to the beautiful island of Mujeres, great shows of pirate ships and hidden from sight, the best that we saw the bar Sirens Raw with which you will not be left sad. It's both quiet and fun, with private warm water pools surrounded by palm trees in a beautiful mini park. Security is top notch. Everything is consistent. The staff was excellent. We are not picky people. Who had holidays in Krinitza in the Soviet era, and washed in cold water, the one will understand)) The hotel is great! We spent 7 unforgettable days here and will be back again! Thanks to all the staff at Calypso!

Do not I repeat do not book this hotel. It is the worst that I have been in all of my 66years. It was a free trip and this is the hotel that was booked for us. You get nothing for nothing.

Make sure to use ʜᴏᴛᴇʟʙoʟʟʏ.ᴄᴏm when booking a stay. This site will compare hundreds of hotel sites and normally will have prices much cheaper compared to others! You're welcome :)! This place is one of the highest rated in this area. I have been staying here for years. If you stay for a few nights you will love it I'm sure! The hotel is really nice in every way, the rooms are well maintained, lots of light and clean. The internet is superb, common areas are very quiet, clean and comfortable. We reserved with food included at the restaurant and the portions are big, the food delicious and plenty of dishes to pick from. The staff is very friendly and will answer all your questions. Would stay again

If you have planned activities everyday, then this hotel is great! If you’re in Cancun for staycation, then stay somewhere else. Everything is good during our stay except ceiling was leaking.

Very Disappointed in the Booking and Service. Booked through Orbitz - Never Again! The rooms were sticky, the view of a swamp, and the hotel all over appeared like a shelter housing.

Warning, Warning, Warning, My stay was very very Terrible, there're no very simple services, no refrigerator, no iron, no coffee maker, no shampoo, just two small soap, very old & dirty towels with stains, the odor smell is nasty, as well as the room door lock broken, so I couldn't secure the door from inside, because I found the hotel area is not safe, stains on the bed, sheet and blankets. Actually I blame myself, because when I saw the reviews before I make a reservation, I saw many many 70-80% negative reviews with big Terrible words, but I went with very little reviews they said "is good", in my mind said to myself maybe it will be good for me too. No, even they didn't allowed my family & I to take a breakfast, they informed that your name not on our list, but on my reservation, the breakfast was included. So, next day I moved to another hotel 4 stars, safe area, good for a family, so I lost a lot of money because a wrong decision that I made to go to this hotel. My advice if you have a family, Don't ever think to go to Calypso, I know is cheap, But is not worth it to expose your family to bad satiation. I can't give half star to this hotel, but I have to choose one star to send my review.
