This place stunk...literally. The beach was dirty and unkept. The house was clean, but that's about the only positive thing I can say about our attempted stay at Mayambe Villas. It's seems like little to no maintenance other than routine cleaning has been done in the past 25 years, considering the beach location, I'll leave the details to your imagination. The online pictures do not do Mayambe justice (they fail to include cinderblock furniture). Ernesto seemed upset about all the negatives we pointed out and rudely refused to refund our down payment. I guess it was a wash because we got 4 nights at a much better place for the price we originally agreed to pay at Mayambe.

A burst of orange comes over the horizon, it's an almost fluorescent orange for a short amount of time and then it dissipates into a humid hot day! There's a mild relief when the sun is behind a fluffy cloud. My partner and I stayed for 7 nights in the Beachside, Beachview Studio Suite and every morning was so picturesque. I would just lay in a lounge chair on our front stoop and watch the sunrise, then Ernesto would come by with breakfast! It was always a beautifully made fruit plate with some pastries and jam! Ernesto is a very friendly and helpful host! He likes to communicate using What’s App, so be sure to have that on your phone. Make planning your trip to Mayambe Private Village easier by putting his number in to confirm the booking 48 hours in advance! Choose to come to this establishment vs. the hotel zone to experience authentic Mexican culture! It’s easy to get around using the Colectivo as it runs up and down Punta Sam. Hail it down with an enthusiastic wave and give the driver 10 pesos. If you go south from Ernesto’s place walking, there’s the El Meco ruins 13 minutes away and it’s fun to explore for 55 pesos. So many iguanas! We took the Colectivo down the Punta Sam to the OXXO and got basic stuff to make sandwiches and a bunch of snacks (there’s a mini fridge in the room) And many beverages! Water, ice tea, soda, beer ect as it’s all very affordable here and you’ll be so damn thirsty all the time haha. Then go to La Palapa Beach Pescados y Mariscos for wood-fired pizza if you’re around in the evening (no pizza until 5pm) because it is phenomenal! (We went twice!) Getting back to Mayambe is not obvious from the outside as there is no sign so we waited to see Flamingo’s restaurant and after it and basically yelling ‘Stop Por Favor’ gets you in a position to jump out! (It’s safe and the locals are friendly! Now you know it’s easy to navigate around from there! It was a struggle of mine to figure out how to use the local transportation by using the internet having never been there before) (Also if Expedia offers you the drop off/ pick up service to and from the airport do it!) There is a familiar scent and layout to the room we stayed in. Very cottage-like. Simple comfort. The A/C in the room works awesome for night sleeping and midday retreat from the hot sun! The wifi works super well! We streamed South Park to watch on the phone in the evening. The water pressure in the shower is great! The knobs can be tricky temperature wise though. The bed isn’t the most comfortable to sleep on but once you’re up and moving for the day you’ll be fine. The sore neck will dissipate after a dip in the ocean outside! There’s a lot of seaweed, but it’s not that bothersome. The water temperature is great to relax in and if you ask Ernesto there are kayaks you can take out for an adventure! The door to this room is a bit of a hassle to open from the outside. It annoyed me because I had to angle my arm to push the door in and use my elbow off the wall to force myself in. I found myself wishing for a door handle of some sort. All in all, very pleased with the vacation we had here! Very happy to have chosen this place as a home base for our adventure to Cancun. I’d chose this place again to give tourism income to an individual rather than a hotel corporation! Great spot!

Owner was very helpful, kind, accommodating during our short stay. The owner went out of his way to get us transportation to the airport. The room we stayed in was a very basic one bedroom but was comfortable and had a beautiful view of the water and Isla Mujares. Additionally, the location is a short walk from a beach restaurant.

The place's vibe is amazing with a great ocean view, with bikes & kayak to go around, also Ernesto was very kind with us at every moment. The kitchen was a bit old & dirty but nothing that can not be solved by the owner. It's important to know that this place is to get relaxed, dont expect huge parties & places to go to at night. In general a good place to go to

Amazing sunsets and sunrises each day and lots of seabirds to watch landing on the jettys etc and the bird's soaring in the thermals right outside my apartment right on the beach. I proper place to chill out watching the waves lapping on the beach. Away from main tourists traps.

This is not a 5 stars hotel but it's a lovely place for a quiet retreat. The facilities are a bit old and would need a revamp but the view and the location are stunning. Perfect place for backpackers and travellers on a budget who look for a quiet and decent accommodation (not too far away) from the hustle and bustle of the zona hotelera and its pricy hotels but still would like being by the sea. Thumb up from me.

I had such a peaceful stay at Mayambe. Ernesto and Uncle were wonderful hosts and made my stay memorable. The private beach was very nice even with the tropical stormy weather. Just added to the adventure. Everything was clean and lacked none of your essential even if the tropical climate has aged somethings before there time. Again all part of the adventure. I will definitely go back!!!

I enjoyed my stay at Mayambe while in Cancun. Ernesto was very friendly and brought us a delicious breakfast of fruit, tea and coffee in the mornings. The ocean view was very relaxing.

Sadly, there was nothing good about this space. The photos are not accurate. The air conditioner didn't work (blew full blast, stayed at 80°F during the day, dropped to 77 at night). Kitchen facilities are lacking and dirty. Beds were hard and lumpy. Taxi's charge triple rate.
