FOOD
ALLERGIES
BEWARE!
TL;DR:
my
husband
told
a
waiter
he
was
allergic
to
shellfish
and
then
the
waiter
gave
him
some,
saying
it
was
safe.
It
wasnt
and
caused
a
reaction.
The
resort
has
not
taken
this
seriously.
There
is
another
review
about
food
allergies
recently.
We
visited
this
resort
last
week.
We
absolutely,
positively,
without
a
doubt
DO
NOT
recommend
this
hotel
if
you
have
any
type
of
food
allergies
or
intolerances.
They
do
not
take
them
seriously.
Another
recent
review
had
similar
issues
with
food
allergies
My
husband
and
another
guest
both
have
shellfish
allergies.
My
sister
was
having
her
wedding
at
the
resort
and
made
them
very
aware
of
the
allergies
throughout
the
entire
planning
process.
The
night
of
the
wedding,
at
the
cocktail
hour
where
passed
apps
were
served.
The
resort
swore
up
and
down
they
would
keep
the
two
shellfish
options
safe
from
the
people
with
allergies.
The
bride
offered
to
remove
shellfish
from
the
menu,
but
they
promised
time
and
time
again
that
they
could
keep
the
options
safe
for
all
and
all
the
staff
would
be
very
aware
of
what
was
in
the
items.
We
even
asked
if
they
could
just
create
a
safe
plate
for
these
people
to
avoid
any
chance
of
cross-contamination
happening.
They
did
not
take
our
suggestion.
At
the
cocktail
hour,
one
of
the
guests
asked
a
waiter
what
was
on
the
plate
he
was
holding.
Instead
of
answering
(while
supposedly
knowing
there
were
multiple
allergies
at
the
event),
he
said
“just
try
it
then
I
will
tell
you
what
it
is”.
This
is
NOT
an
appropriate
response
ever,
as
what
people
put
into
their
bodies
is
their
choice.
This
was
strike
one.
A
few
minutes
later,
a
waiter
offered
my
husband
an
appetizer.
He
said
“I’m
allergic
to
shellfish,
can
I
have
this?”
The
waiter
said
no,
but
to
hold
on.
He
came
back
holding
two
options,
saying
both
were
safe.
One
was
a
beef
taco
type
item
and
the
other
was
described
as
“spinach
and
tomato”.
My
husband
then
ate
the
item
and
immediately
started
to
feel
a
reaction.
Concerned,
we
started
trying
to
figure
out
what
caused
it.
I
ran
and
asked
FOUR
waiters
what
was
in
the
dish,
and
none
of
them
knew
it
contained
shellfish.
My
husband
had
just
been
standing
near
the
other
person
with
the
same
allergies,
so
we
are
very
lucky
she
didn’t
eat
the
shellfish
as
well.
The
shellfish
was
wrapped
inside
the
spinach,
so
he
could
not
see
from
the
outside
that
it
contained
anything
other
than
what
the
waiter
stated.
Luckily,
my
husband
is
okay,
but
he
had
a
rough
night
dealing
with
their
major
mistake.
The
next
day,
the
resort
never
even
checked
on
him
to
make
sure
he
was
okay.
The
resort
does
not
seem
to
understand
that
they
could
have
killed
two
people
that
night.
The
staff
was
very
nonchalant
about
the
entire
situation.
The
resort
reached
out
to
me
after
we
left
(and
only
because
my
sister
asked
them
to,
it
does
not
sound
like
they
planned
to
prior
to
her
asking)
to
offer
ONE
free
night
stay
back
at
the
place
that
he
could
have
died.
in
return
for
us
signing
a
confidentiality
agreement
and
releasing
them
from
all
past
and
future
liabilities.
Which
means,
should
we
return
and
they
messed
up
again,
we
wouldn’t
be
able
to
do
anything
about
it.
Why
would
we
return
to
a
place
that
has
made
it
clear
they
care
more
about
their
image
than
people’s
safety?
To
put
it
on
perspective,
my
husband
was
on
medicine
for
the
reaction
longer
than
one
night.
They
have
since
upped
the
offer
up
to
3
free
nights
(with
3
months
worth
of
blackout
dates).
Not
to
mention,
returning
for
1-3
nights
on
a
comped
room
still
doesn’t
equal
a
“free
stay”,
considering
we
would
have
to
purchase
plane
tickets
again
to
a
different
country,
figure
out
transportation
to
and
from
the
resort,
among
all
other
associated
travel
costs
Throughout
all
my
encounters
post-trip,
the
staff
seemed
more
concerned
about
getting
us
to
sign
the
waiver/agreement
than
actually
handling
the
issue.
We
asked
for
how
they
plan
on
changing
how
they
handle
food
allergies
in
the
future
to
avoid
it
happening
again
and
they
completely
ignored
our
question.
