My daughter and I visited Athens and had never been there. We had 2 days and thought that this tour would be good to give us an overview of Athens and give us ideas on what to see. The tour was TERRIFIC! We learned a lot of history of the city, saw the university and got good tips on things "not to miss." We finished our trip with a much better experience than we would have had if we had started without the Historic Athens Welcome Center. It was a highlight and I recommend it highly!

The tour was fun. It starts with a tour of one of the original houses of Athens--lots of interesting history of the area. Then a shuttle tour for about an hour. We saw many beautiful historic houses near downtown and then had a quick tour of the university. This tour was well worth taking. Our tour guide was very friendly and helpful.

Kevin was an enthusiastic and knowledgeable tour guide who was able to field all questions and make the tour an amusing, entertaining and very personal experience for me on my first visit to Athens Georgia with more questions than we had time for in an hour and a half tour. I recommend this tour to all first time Athens visitors, although I will advise that it could be physically strenuous (especially in the heat of summer) for those who are not comfortable with a hike. The terrain is not demanding, but there are some hills (although this is not San Francisco!!) and there’s a lot of walking—of course because it’s a walking tour! It would be fun to do this on scooters or by bicycle, and perhaps cover some more territory around UGA. Finally, for those who are aficionados of the 70s 80s and 90s music scene in Athens and the bands that were spawned in that environment, I highly recommend Paul Butchart’s walking tour of Athens music haunts. Paul is a very knowledgeable tour guide, as he LIVED the scene. He was present from the beginning and personally knows all the players. He was at the house parties. He was at the initial 40 Watt Club. Paul was the drummer in one of the seminal Athens bands of the 70s—The Side Effects, who toured alongside REM and Pylon up and down the East Coast in the late 70s and early 80s. And while you’re here, be sure to go to the UGA special collections museum at Baxter and N. Newton streets for the exhibit of house party photos and art.

I lived close to Athens for many years but this is the first time I visited the Historic Athens Welcome Center. This house is one of the last original houses in Athens and it is over 200 years old and you can walk though it. Plus they have a little gift shop and a lot of great brochures on things to do in Athens and other surrounding areas. If this is your first time to Athens, GA or if you’ve been before it’s worth stopping because you may learn something you didn’t know before.

I highly recommend taking a guided tour of this historic home. Chris was a fantastic guide who was full of curious and noteworthy facts about the home, the time period and culture, objects in the home, the owners, and the process of restoration. He was ready to answer questions, wasn't rushed, and he was able to recommend other sites of historic and local interest in the area. Most delightful guided tour I've taken!

Athens is a cute town with a lot of history. The historic tour was a comfortable and reasonably priced way to see the best historic homes and buildings while hearing the highlights. The Welcome Center was clean and inviting. It is also near many fun shops and restaurants to visit following the tour.

We really enjoyed our van tour of Athens Highlights! We never would have found the spots on our own and it gave us a great overview of the city! The beautiful mansions were a highlight.

I had a very informative tour of the historic home and a van tour of the city. My guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining. We visited parts of the city that I would not have visited on my own and would not have known the interesting history and stories. I highly recommend visiting the center and taking a tour.

Fabulous tour and the tour guide was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable. It felt like a local friend (who loves history and Athens) was showing you the sites. Always fun to meet others who are passionate about what they do.

Our party of four took the walking tour of Athens last Saturday morning. Logan was awesome! Full of historical info, her enthusiasm and just her fun quirky self made the tour very enjoyable!! We saw many old buildings downtown and on the UGA campus. The home housing the welcome center was a treasure, too. Very reasonably priced tour! Thank you!!

The guide was fairly knowledgeable and personable. The tour includes some interesting stories about Athens, hitting the highlights, plus the old campus of UGA. I found it worthwhile and worth the price.

I had the chance to take a tour with Historic Athens on Saturday 9/17. This group visit began with a tour of the Waddel House, and then a driving tour through Downtown. I'd recommended each component (or both if you have the time)! The guide gave an incredibly detailed tour of the Waddel house. The driving tour was equally wonderful and thorough in its coverage. The tour managed to talk about all aspects of Athens' history, and ensured that it did not ignore historically underrepresented community stories. Thanks to the Historic Athens team for making this happen!

The tour was fascinating! Our tour guide (Jacob) was very well informed, & narrated in a factual, if taciturn, manner, interspersing humor into his delivery. The only downside was that the A/C in the van was somewhat inadequate for the heat of the day. Thanks to Historic Athens!

The office was extremely kind and accommodating while scheduling a group research trip to attend the walking and shuttle tours. The tour guide, Logan, was super knowledgable and dived deeper into topics related to our project. Highly recommend to anyone whose fond of the Classic City!

Awesome in every regards. If you want to know any and every thing about Athens...take this tour! Kevin was able to pull the beginnings, rich history, prominent residents and their influences, the progress and the architecture together...and 90 minutes later...saturation and satiation. Details abound and he answers all questions...

Fabulous tour, fascinating histories, and a wonderful tour guide! This tour is suitable for those who want a pleasant one-hour walk through some of Athens' historical highlights in the downtown area. Ends with a brief walk around the historical north campus of UGA. Highly recommend!

I did the North Campus and Historic Downtown tour with a friend who was visiting from London. Jacob was our tour guide and he was stellar! He was knowledgeable, easy to understand, and personable as well! The tour was the perfect amount of time and I learned so many things about the Classic City that I didn’t previously know! Thank you for a wonderful tour!

The house tour was great. The tour guide did an excellent job of driving, talking, and pointing so that we could see and know the info about Athens Georgia and its history. Having been a guide, she was wonderful at her task.
