I have been living in Bali for over a decade and still cannot speak Bahasa Indonesia that well. I have taken lessons at various different language schools in the past, both in Bali and outside of Bali, as well as with several private teachers. Because I am not a beginner, I was nervous to start taking lessons again as I was not sure they would be able to provide lessons to the exact level I was at. I took the language assessment that Jembatan Bahasa Indonesian Language School gives prior to starting (was impressed that they had such a thorough assessment) and I didn't score as high as I thought my level of language is. When I received my book, I knew a lot of the information for the first half of the book. I anticipated being bored with the material, but I was completely wrong. Jembatan Bahasa Indonesian Language School has not only met, but exceeded my expectations. The first lesson I had Guru Kadek as a substitute teacher. She was fantastic! She immediately knew what level I was, worked with me and used the book and expanded the knowledge to include things that were related to the lesson and gave me additional vocabulary. Again, I was nervous that my regular teacher would not be as good as Guru Kadek, but again I was wrong. Guru Sani is wonderful as well. Just like Guru Kadek, she is able to adjust to the level, expand the material and vocabulary words so that I am learning new words every time and uses a variety of teaching tools--not just the book. In every class, I speak a lot, listen, create sentences and stories, use words in different ways (such as find their opposites), translate passages, and read. We also laugh a lot together. Guru Sani keeps track of new words that I have learned and repeats them every week to be sure I remember them and am using them correctly. I was so happy after several classes that I increased the frequency of my lessons. If I could afford it, I would take them every day! Their own created curriculum is fantastic with varied learning activities and they have additional practice materials as well. I just finished my first package of lessons and Jembatan Bahasa Indonesian Language School sent me all the lesson plans of what we had done including activities and key vocabulary words. I am amazed at the professionalism and organization of the school itself and also the staff. While I did do some research, I am so happy to have stumbled upon Jembatan Bahasa Indonesian Language School to continue with my Bahasa Indonesia learning. I highly recommend them if you are wanting to learn Bahasa Indonesia for either the first time, or like me, want to build upon the foundation you already have!

I have really enjoyed my lessons with Jembatan Language School. I have had Bahasa lessons with other teachers in the past, but the lessons with Jembata - Kadek in particular - have been well structured and most importantly... fun! I genuinely look forward to each lesson and my Bahasa has improved exponentially as a result.

I learned Indonesian with Jembatan Bahasa and I am more than satisfied with their courses. The teachers really adapts to your level and your needs. They are patient and offer a very good methodology which allowed me to evolve very quickly. I also liked the material very much. I recommend this school for anyone wanting to learn Indonesian in Bali or even online.

I did a two-week intensive course at Jembatan Bahasa and it was probably my favourite learning experience ever! The course was a perfect combination of reading, writing and most of all talking, and the books we used explained everything clearly. My Indonesian has improved hugely in just two weeks, and I wish I could have stayed longer and gotten even better! My teachers were all amazing, fun and interesting people, and were very good at getting me to speak in Indonesian without being afraid of making mistakes. It really felt like chatting to friends, and I think that's probably the best way to learn. The classes also included many topics of culture exchange, so that I learned a lot about Indonesian and Balinese culture. Because I was learning Indonesian in preparation for a research project, we also discussed topics relevant to my research, and I went on a tour during which I could practice interviewing religious leaders in Canggu, together with a teacher. I think the quality of the teachers is what makes this language school great, it's honestly so much better than most language courses in the UK. I have been learning Indonesian with Jembatan Bahasa Indonesian Language School for the past 12 months both online and in person. I have been very lucky to find this school! Bu Sani is a wonderful teacher who brings lots of energy and even more patience to classes. The learning resources are great and the classes varied. The school was very accommodating when I visited Bali and completed classes in person at quite short notice! The whole team are welcoming and responsive to any requests I might have. “Language Bridge” – what an apt name! I had the privilege to meet the whole Team outside of class. Over and above their knowledge and ability, is their outgoing personalities. As an older adult student (over 60) it has been more than 30 years since my last formal schooling. I was nervous. The energy, friendliness, openness & humour of my teachers, Desy and Fio, made the learning experience both enjoyable and motivating. Their bubbly personalities put my nerves at ease, as well as built my confidence. The reference books are well-structured, and the layout facilitates learning and review. The size of the books and the size of the text was ideal, with the ideas and themes on the same page – there is little or no need to keep turning back pages. For example, a reading on the left page and relevant exercises on the right. I was extremely happy that the course and material provided a pathway – dare I say a bridge - to colloquial Bahasa Indonesian as well. Anyone wishing to learn Indonesian, brush up or otherwise refine or develop their language skills, in person or on-line, should seriously consider this Team of skilled yet enthusiastic and compassionate teachers. Had a fantastic experience with Jembatan taking two weeks of intensive course Indonesian classes with them. The materials covered was actually practical - unlike Duolingo Indonesian - with an emphasis on commonly used terms, a focus conversational skills, and nice complement of online materials. Also huge shoutout to all my teachers - Desy, Kadek, and Dewi - for being capable and fun teachers! There were many tangential conversations which were super fun, and it made the process very enjoyable. Makasi banyak ya 🙏

After two weeks of intensive learning with Jembatan Bahasa I can say my Indonesian has improved a lot. Jembatan Bahasa is definitely a good place to obtain a better understanding of Indonesian. Besides learning a new language I got taught about Bali itself as well. I don’t have a lot to compare with but my extremely friendly and helpful teachers deserve nothing less than a five star rating! Believe me, being able to speak the language will make your time in Bali much more enjoyable.

Jembatan Bahasa Indonesian Language School is quite the find and is conveniently located for those who live in Canggu. My husband and I enrolled in a beginner’s Indonesian course and our staff, who have different proficiency levels in English, are studying English with the same teacher, Jusna. Jusna comes to our home twice a week and does a marathon stretch of teaching, first for Indonesian and then for English. Jusna is a fantastic teacher. He is engaging and relaxed, something of a requirement in our home, as we have two large dogs who can be very intimidating and two little dogs who can be very naughty. Jusna’s teaching style works well for us; we engage in practical conversation with him during each class and he is always happy to teach us about Balinese culture, also. The fact that Jusna is willing to come to us is a huge benefit for us as it is difficult for us to leave the villa “unmanned” with our dogs and an elderly relative who needs constant attention. After just a few sessions with Jusna, my husband and I are now able to hold rudimentary conversations in Indonesian. We recommend Jembatan Bahasa Indonesian School highly.

I can highly recommend this school for anyone interested in learning Indonesian. The teachers are incredibly kind and friendly, and they always make class fun. I always look forward to my classes. In just a few classes, I've learned enough to feel comfortable ordering food, buying things, and making conversation with the locals. Do yourself a favor and enroll in this school. It will make your life in Bali much more enjoyable!

I’ve been studying with Guru Sani for two months now and I am really really enjoying my experience! I live a few hours away from Jembatan so I love that I am able to study online from my home. It’s conversational so I’m always challenged and learning new words that are relevant to my life. The course is structured great, the books are nice, and I feel like I’m learning very quickly. I’m looking forward to continuing my studies with Sani & Jembatan throughout the year!

My partner and I really enjoyed taking Indonesian lessons with the Jembatan Language School. In total we did 20 hours. They were professional and accommodating. The classes were fun and we really got to learn the basics of Indonesian. We’re now able to communicate with Balinese people who can’t speak English very well.
