An interesting Speakeasy bar above a restaurant. We were the first customers to arrive on the night. A nice duet was playing music and taking song requests. Unfortunately, the menu was very limited. The staff said they could create any cocktail, however there was an additional charge for this, which we only discovered when paying the bill. They never mentioned it. They charged 150k for a vodka cocktail plus 50k for the creation and then there is also a 17% charge on top of that for tax and service. I was paying 234k for a tiny cocktail. The cocktails were extremely small because they always added a massive ice cube (please see photos!). Overall I would not recommend this cocktail bar. Way too expensive for what it offers.

Place is amazing, vibes and music too. The problem is with bar staff. When they served me my cocktail I accidentally dropped it in front of them. They asked me if I wanted a new one and I said yes, then they charged me double. I know it’s my fault but cmon so attached to the money! Also at same point during the night with a friend we let our cocktails on a table so we can dance after some minutes they cleaned the table taking our cocktail away too when they were almost full. Talking with the staff they claimed that glasses were empty but it wasn’t true, after long discussion and argue with the girl cashier who didn’t even was her the person who took the glasses, they prepare 2 more cocktails but with half of the quantity of the spirit as usually is supposed to be! Guys you’re very greedy! A bar should create connection with its clients, people come to your place to stick out from the problem of the world for a bit but it seems like that you have problems to fix in your place first

Interesting speakeasy bar with great deal on cocktails during happy hour. However the smoke smell was very strong and it even irritated my eyes, and the environment was a bit too cold to be comfortable. Food is available from the kitchen downstairs and it was really good

Its a hidden gem for a hangout place in the evening.. the place is really chill, good quality drinks and awesome music performers... the waiters and bartenders are really friendly.. its a really cool place to hang out alone.. or with anyone

This is my favorite bar in Bali. Very classy and dim lit with an old school underground feel to it. I absolutely love the atmosphere. The cocktails are a little pricey but you're paying for the quality. They use proper alcohol and fresh ingredients in all of their drinks and have highly skilled bartenders. There is a very large selection of spirits to chose from and the bartenders can pretty much make any cocktail you request even if it's not on the menu. If you like whiskey sours I recomend trying a "Pandan sour" it's not on the menu but it's very tasty. They recently started Tuesday night Jazz nights which is now my favorite night to drop in after having some ramen at Mad Ronins which is right downstairs. There is no sign for 40 thieves which makes it a well kept secret. You will have to look for Mad Ronin's ramen shop and then find the stairway in the back of the restaurant and go upstairs. Note that this is an indoor smokers bar and you can purchase cigars here. You will be reeking of tobacco when you leave here but that's just part of the charm.

There’s a great 2-for-1 deal on a selection of cocktails, we tried Johnny Appleseed and Thai Whore Smash. Service was very attentive but I wish smoking wasn’t allowed in this rather small bar — we left with our clothes reeking of cigarette smoke.

This place has its charm and mysteriousness. There isn't even a logo on the street so it's pretty hard to find it. But inside it looks made with taste. There are different cocktails, it is allowed to smoke inside ( ventilation is good), it's chilly inside but not so much space so I think dancing is impossible there. It's just a place to hand out, have a drink and admire interior design.

Bars in Bali are great. Buckets of Bintang for less than a pint in Australia but it can get a bit repetitive after a few days, this is where this bar comes into its own. Very classy. Great cocktails. Great service. Great cigars. Even when you make your way through the whole menu (I’m guilty of it) they’re happy to try different things for ya. Live band on Wednesday night was amazing with a mix of pop, jazz, blues, R&B. Not crowded on a weeknight and drinks were decent. One downside was that it allows in-door smoking, which can be uncomfortable at times.

A hidden bar above a ramen shop without even any sign - what an adventure to locate this place. The ambience of this place took me back to my childhood days with a generous amount of nostalgia served. Drinks were the classics but served with a 40 Thieves twist. My only wish was that had the drinks come with an accompnying bowl of nuts (kudos for serving water promptly), the experience would not be perfect - it would be OUT OF THIS WORLD!

I really enjoyed the atmosphere of this bar. It's perfect if you want to have a calm chat with your friends, have a date, or just chill at the bar. The waiters are extremely attentive and helpful when making your drinks. They have a great menu with different cocktails that you wouldn't find anywhere else. One added benefit is that you can make your own custom drinks by just telling them what you want. However, if you're expecting a party atmosphere or a loud one, you might be disappointed. But if it fits your vibe, then it's a pretty awesome place.

The speakeasy bar that was quite difficult for me to find turned out to require entering a ramen restaurant first before being directed to the bar. The concept is quite unique, and I love how we were greeted upon arrival. There is live music, and you can even do karaoke here. The drinks are passionately crafted and beautifully presented. We had quite a lot of conversations with the bartenders, so we weren't just sitting silently enjoying our drinks. I really love this place. Highly recommended!

If ur looking for a warung to eat nasi goreng then this mite be ur place. But if ur looking for a place with nice cocktails then u better look elsewhere. 150k for ridiculously overpaid cocktails using low end ingredients like Gordon's and Captain Morgans. TBH I would rather just drink arak from the local beach boys than drink their shwill @$$ cocktails.

Been there for the 1st time in early june 2022. It is speak-easy when you come early by 8pm before the live music. After that it's not so easy again. The cocktail is very good but not excellent due to the limited ingredients they have. They make some of them in-house which is very good. I like when it's still early but not so much after it's too loud. For indonesia it is another good cocktail bar but the atmosphere is not to my liking. PS : the smoke can be very strong and irritating here after so many people smoke in this small venue. Might not think to go back when I'm in bali.

Kinda fell upon this place and glad we did! Where several other bars failed, 40 Thieves has succeeded. Simple, yet creative menu with consistency in execution. The bar tenders were more than happy to strike a conversation and make you feel welcome. Definitely the best bar we've visited in Seminyak.
