Magdalenas is an excellent foodie experience with a great vibe and excellent service. We went for the chef’s menu plus oysters and it was wonderful. The tooth fish was amazing and prawns just fantastic. Must do Fremantle foodie experience!

Our new favourite restaurant in Perth. Quick and very attentive service. Amazing wine menu. We tried the degustion and loved every dingle dish!!! The casual atmosphere makes this a must visit location for foodies who don't want to fancy up. We'll be back soon

I had dinner here with a group of friends last night. I have to say I was very underwhelmed with the food and service. It was very busy so I thought that it would be a good sign of things to come. When we arrived we were seated at the bar. It was another 40 minutes before a table became available. The menu is very limited. We chose nearly everything on the menu and when it came out, the servings were tiny!! I only had one small piece of the octopus! Very pricey for what you get. Expensive, small servings and average tasting food. I was still hungry after dessert and that is after spending $50 on my portion of the food. Drinks were more! Will never be coming back again. Don’t waste your money here!! There are much better places around Perth!

Had lunch today. Place was quiet. Staff was really friendly and welcoming. Food was great. They are on simple side, but nice and refreshing.. though slightly expensive. But definitely recommended if you are into seafood. They make the produce shine.

What a great place for a date night. Only just started doing evenings. BYOB, the tapas food was delicious 😋 Parking was tricky, but found a space down the road a bit. Staff were friendly and helpful. Prices were reasonable. Lovely bistro, almost greek feel to it. Quite romantic even.

One of the best restaurants in Perth! Every single thing we ordered was unique, creative, and absolutely delicious. The oysters were fresh, and the crudo was outstanding. Scallops are a must try. We ordered the prawns and tooth fish for mains, both 10/10 - the tooth fish was the most tender fish I’ve ever eaten, and the miso sauce on the prawns a great modern twist. We finished with almond cake and chocolate fondant for desert, and we were again impressed by fresh and rich flavours. Chefs, thank you and keep doing what you’re doing!

It’s a bit of a shame. What started off as a great local restaurant has perhaps become a little full of its own importance. Customers do not always arrive on time and also have food allergies but having observed how this was dealt with not sure I would recommend to others any more. Living in South Fremantle is different to Melbourne and much as I realise customers can be annoying the bottom line is the customer has to be right. Food good wine list extensive but lost the south Freo vibe.

Great seafood tapas. Every dish was amazing. Wine selection was spot on. Tried few different ones and all were great. Very friendly staff and great service. Recommend booking in advance. Preferred sitting inside instead of out.

Tries very hard to be hipster and completely misses the mark. Food in particular is exspencive and just not very good at all. The sardines in particular were pretty bad. Service is even worse when trying to catch anyone's attention or fix a mistake (twice, asked for a refund the third time and left) from the kitchen. Won't be back.

Won’t be coming back to this jumped up cafe, the staff are rude and up themselves. Everything is overpriced and served with a grimace. Do not rely on any deals they post on social media!

One of the best meals I had in WA. Gorgeous flavour combos. Yum wine list. Great ambiance. Lovely staff. Cheese was the only thing that let the meal down at the end! Need a better hard cheese range & potentially served with something spreadable. Otherwise, faultless.

Great atmosphere, lovely staff, food is done well but $10 for a bowl of chips... Huge range of wine although $9 a glass - Perth prices are up there! The lunch special $60 for four people, probably better for 2-3 people. Whole fish, chips and 'salad' was just lettuce with a lovely vinaigrette. Delicious! Perfectly cooked whole snapper.

My partner and I went there on Sunday 5th January. Arrived at 19:10 for dinner to a packed house. We were told that the wait would be approximately 30 mins, no problems we were happy to wait. Staff suggested we should go for a drink at the pub next door and took my partner's mobile number for a call back (staff wrote it on the glass front door in marker pen, we were 2nd in the queue after another couple). 50 minutes later (still no call back) we strolled back to Madalenas to find a half empty restaurant. The staff then told us that there was no food left and basically stared blankly when we pointed at our name/number written on the glass door and mentioned we were promissed a call back. The manager (or bar manager) was around but didn't bother coming to check what happened or apologise. Very poor service. I appreciate things can happen out of control of staff but I would at least expect a courtesy call to let us know we wouldn't be able to have dinner there on that night. Even after what happened they still had our number (when we left it was still written on the glass front door) but no action was taken to apologise.

Awful service. Unfriendly staff told us to go and wait at the pub next door till a table was free. After 40min we walked back and found 4 empty tables as well as plenty of chairs available at the bar. Soon after they told us some of their dishes were not available anymore, so not plenty to chose from. All in all, a waste of time ✌🏼

We really enjoyed our lunch here. They offered set of menu for Easter. They have nice choices of wine too. It is absolutely beautiful combination with fresh caught seafood and own growing garden vegetables.

I was looking for somewhere with a view on my Friday at 5.30pm, near South Beach, as the kiosk & restaurant on the foreshore were closed. I found free parking down South Terrace & walked down to this simple European looking eatery as I’d seen the wooden tables & chairs out front on my 2 minute drive down. I decided to head upstairs - see video - and was pleasantly surprised with the chalkboard menu on the bar offering 4-6pm specials of Pacific oysters 🦪 $3 each, glass of wine 🍷 $8 and frites $8. I was also lucky enough to get the corner table with a view from the open windows to La Cabana next door and a glimpse of South Beach through the pine trees - see video. Staff are lovely and friendly ❤️. Arrive early as it starts to get busy from 5.45pm 😉. #madalenasbar

One of my new favourite places to eat, although it is slightly expensive but the quality of food is spot on. Ordered the leek (favourite dish), bbq mackerel, blue prawn (tiny and didn't taste very fresh), and pink snapper wings with xo sauce (specials of the day). Food was slow to come out, but I think we were supposed to enjoy the atmosphere with a glass of wine (and got too hungry).

Had a very lovely dinner last night, the staff was super attentive and friendly, they were able to recommend some very nice wines and made for a very enjoyable experience. And the food was just incredible, I will not forget about the tuna dish for a long time, that’s for sure! And quite an amazing finish with a delicious lemon tart. 100% recommend!

We love Madalenas! The food is always amazing - so delicious and stunningly presented. Great wine list too! We always get the tasting menu (because it’s fantastic) & always leave extremely satisfied. We took my pregnant sister for her 30th birthday on the weekend & they were extremely accommodating & substituted all the things she couldn’t eat. We always have the best time & it’s definitely worth the drive from Scarborough to dine here.

My partner and I had heard good things about this place, and they promoted themselves and their food heavily, so we were really looking forward to trying them out. Menu was quite limited, as was the wine list (by the glass, at least). Portions were very small, the food didn't really impress, and it was expensive. I don't mind paying, but not for average food...

  • 5/5 Gabriel R. 2 years ago on Google
The food was fantastic, and the service was very lovely. Only comment would be we expected more seafood plates from the chefs selection - only 2 of 6 were seafood, but all the dishes were extremely tasty, so no complaints. Plus the fresh sourdough and off-menu swordfish we got in the chefs selection was DELICIOUS.

Celebrating my 71 birthday with 2 beautiful friends. A little reserved by reading some negative reviews BUT it lived up to all expectations. Very friendly service, nice vibe, cool music and an all round vibrant ambiance. French bistro vibe. Really enjoyable. I’m a retired French chef and understand how a restaurant works. This place ticks all the boxes.

We had our starters and drinks at the up stairs bar and dinner in the downstairs restaurant. The food was very unique and very tasty. The sardines were amazing, nothing like I had ever tasted and the wa wine to suit was perfect. Great experience all round. Food was abit pricey but worth it. Definitely advise for seafood lovers

We were celebrating a family birthday, we had the late sitting and a table for 8 and the 'feed me' menu. The food was delicious, and plentiful. The wait staff were very attentive and friendly, and we also enjoyed selecting from the fabulous wine list. The food came at a comfortable pace, and we didn't feel pressured. Stand outs? The scallops were delicious; as was the parfait. Highly recommended - the 3rd time we have been there.

Great food, attentive service. Dishes arrived very quickly and plates cleared almost before we were done. All very rushed and we were pushed outside as the next cover sitting had arrived. Not a big fan of the 2 hour time limit.feels like a fast food outlet for dining experience. Won't be rushing back.

  • 5/5 Manuel Van Balen C. 1 year ago on Google
AMAZING food but the atmosphere was a bit of a let down. The quality of the food was insane. We had the chef's menu and every plate was delicious and delicate. The only things that could have been better were the bread and butter, but honestly their main purpose was to soak up some of the delicious juices in the plate from a previous dish. This place does for seafood what Marumo does for Japanese food. However, we were not a fan of the atmosphere. The place is a bit old and run down and didn't quite had the "special occassion" vibe we were looking for. But if you want to have some of the best food in Perth while in a casual environment and not worry too much about the fine dining scene, then this place is perfect for you. Overall a great night (took almost two an a half hours to go through all the dishes and it was a very good pace). Will definitely recommend and will probably return.

Sensational. Best night out I’ve had in over six months. The menu was exceptional and our waiter was amazing. I asked him about a $75 bottle of wine and he recommended me a $55 bottle which was much nicer. My new favourite 😍

Ledgend seafood restaurant. Nice dressing on plate. Non fishy but just fresh seafood flavour. Oil based sauce gives a lot of excitement to the fish taste. Recommend!

Good service and interesting seafood menu. Wine list is big enough but glass options are limited and not really match with food.

  • 4/5 Miriam Wei Wei L. 2 years ago on Google
Sustainable seafood paired with seasonal produce in the hipster locale of South Fremantle. Our family opted for the chef's choice and enjoyed the six course experience that featured dishes like barbecued fresh sardines and mussels with pickled vegetables. The stand-out dish was the Antartic tooth fish in a leek package. The disappointment was the leafy greens, which would be better with a creamy dressing: lemon juice on raddiccio was a bit too bitter/sour for us! We were pleasantly surprised by the coconut sorbet palate cleanser. A unique dining experience for adventurous eaters.

I can not fault Madalenas. The food was delicious and the service impeccable. They were able to showcase the seafood in such a wonderful way. Each plate was different with sauce that perfectly complimented the dish . To top it all the atmosphere was friendly and unpretentious.

Beyond expectations! we ordered the chef's selections. All ingredients (seafood, veg, seasoning and bread) are so fresh. The chef certainly mastered blending of herbs and ingredients. Not to mention the exceptional service, the host here always attends your needs in time. They even have live music here! Love the clarinet performance! A gem in Fremantle. A Must try.

A great place for a chilled out night, great seafood and good drinks. You could tell the seafood was so fresh and the flavours were classic and vibrant. It's a place to go to try new crustaceans and types of fish. The night we went, a live 3 piece jazz band were playing and it was AMAZING! I haven't seen a live set that intimate in a restaurant before and the vibe was mega. Some thought it was too loud, but it was worth it.

if you want to be transported to Southern European bliss then this is your spot. Nothing beats a lazy luncheon, vino in hand, slowly grazing on fresh seafood and cesty greens. Definitely my new favorite restaurant in Perth. It makes not being able to fly anywhere just that little bit better.

The food was fantastic but unfortunately the service left a lot be desired, only 2 floor staff on for busy night did not help the situation, service not very personable,I would give 5 stars for the food but overall only giving 3 stars based on the service. You are onto a winner here so if you could lift your game on your service levels the sky is the limit. I don't usually write reviews but feel as the service was such a let down that you might appreciate the feedback.

Nice little wine bar on South Terrace. Incredibly busy on the weekend and you can understand why. Tried the sardines and they were a delicious bite to have with a cold one.

  • 3/5 Matt L. 3 years ago on Google
Food was fresh and couldn't fault much apart from the frites being warm and abit soft and the sourdough croutons on the parfait to chunky and hard, parfait was really good. Service was the downfall.

  • 5/5 Irvin F. 3 years ago on Google
Wow, it was sensational, the seafood, the customer service and the ambience of the place was just on point last night. We booked for the chef special menu which is $70 per person and on top we ordered the octopus with fermented chilli and duck fat. 9/10 on all the seafood from the start till the end, not to mention the almond cake and the lemon tart for the dessert was also amazing! The food came on time and we didnt have to wait for long, the wine selection was extensive and they had a couple of local beers on tap which was great. What we are surprised the most was the friendliness and attentiveness of the customer service throughout the night, they constantly check on our food. The set menu was creative, and had a lot of attention to detail that will make you appreciate quality seafood! Only downfall was just hard to find parking and we wish there was some live music to compliment the night. Will be coming back! Thanks guys.

This was our first dining out experience post-Covid and had the 70pp tasting menu among the 3 of us. It was one of the most delightful and well thought of menus we have ever tasted! The seafood courtesy of Finns Seafood (a WA local business) was fresh and superstar chefs Adam + Blaze truly elevated each and every dish on a gloomy Wednesday evening. The wine offering was amazing - we opted for a collaboration Grenache Madalena’s did with Swan Valley’s rising star Chouette Wines - a perfect accompaniment for all the fresh seafood. We were a table of red drinkers 🍷 Every dish seemed like art on a plate (pictures don’t do it justice!) and the flavours were mind blowing. Cheers to the Madalenas team. We hope to be back for a lovely sunny day in South Freo!

Madalenas bar had been on my list to try for a while. This is one of the seafood restaurant offering degustation at $70 per person. That takes out all the decision making that we have to make. They also have an extensive wine list to our surprise and we ordered the Chardonay The dishes they dished out was amazingly good! I will return to the restaurant again to try many of their other dishes. The dishes that was in the degustation was - Smoked Spanish mackerel Gillette, pickled onion, avruga - Wagin duck parfait, vermouth, prune - Abrolhos island amberjack crude, pear, tapioca - Albany black lip mussels escabeche, fennel, carrot - Smoked eggplant, garden radish, yogurt - Shark bay king prawn, miso butter, laver - Kimberly Spanish mackerel, chamomile butter, - Almond cake Bosc pear lemon leaf sorbet - Lemon tart, cultured cream The conclusion is that we love all the dishes! We will return again to try these delicious dishes again. I would say that these dishes that was serve is healthy!

5 stars. Delicious seasonal seafood, the chef/owner here takes pride in his work and delivers seafood that rivals the most prestigious botecos throughout Europe. Sarah who served us was a star sommelier in her own right and nailed her recommendations all afternoon . Bravo madelanas.

Amazing local bar with a great wine selection and friedly staff. We got there late and the kitchen was already closed, but we can’t wait to try their food!

  • 5/5 Klaus T. 3 years ago on Google
We went with the chef table; dishes were inspired with a good buildup to the main and desert (which were the stars if the show), service attentative and the wine list one of the best ones I have seen in a while (although on the pricey side). Overall a great experience! Only improvement suggestion would be to consider different plates for improved impact of the dishes - but this is me being really nitpicking
