Sometimes you come across a place by surprise. In this case the surprise happened to be an institution. Reminded me of the old days, and I'm sure the locals will say it's not the same anymore, but in the bigger scheme if things, it's still good to have a new benchmark for others to be judged by. Oh, and after 50 years of eating pizza, this is best I've had. Thanks guys.

Beautiful play area, close enough for parents to relax while the kiddies enjoy. We had breakfast to die for today. It was lovely. The kids even have their own toilet situated right next to thw play area. We often come for lunch but this was our first breakfast and it was surprisingly quiet and serene. We highly recommend.

Amazing place. Five stars for their pizzas and beer. Their cappuccino and hot chocolate are amazing. We were however, a little disappointed at the strawberry daiquiris, as they tasted nothing like it should - tasted like those cheap flavoured ice we bought as kids. My mom had an eisbein - the portion was HUGE and amazing value for money, only sad part was that it was not crunchy on the outside as one would expect it too be. But overall we had a great experience.

A Cape Town stalwart, with good food and plenty of beer! An extensive menu and their Sunday Roast buffet is delicious. Pet-friendly (outside) and lots of seating options inside and out. A kids play area too.

Parking area with attendant , good service and food was very tasty, a nice variety of options. Lovely use of heaters to keep things snug. Reasonably priced.

Enjoy a lovely Sunday buffet. Also, don't forget to reserve your table for the rugby events. Unbelievable atmosphere here!

Foresters Arm was an instant hit. Everyone loved the vibe... especially under the grapevines where gossip ran hot! And what, pray tell, was the tea being spilled? "This shot can't possibly be the right size", "Now that's what I call shrink-flation", and "This Jagger is definitely not 35ml!" was heard both murmured and exclaimed! Could it be? Shocking! Scandalous! We just had to investigate! ... Alas, upon repeated inquiry, the answer from the barkeep and waitron was a stock-standard, non-committal, "It is a shot." But that did not satisfy our too-sober-after-two-shots curiosity! And so we kidnapped one tiny plastic goblet and applied to it the rigorous scientific method. (I.e. we measured it in the kitchen!) The definitive and exact result of our investigation is that a Forries shot is on the dot 20ml, (17ml allowing for 3ml of spillage by the time it reaches your table). And that makes R50 a helluva lot of money for a helluva little liquid. The truth now revealed, only one question remains... will I go back? Of course I will. We had an absolute blast.

This is a really great place to sit down, relax and watch the kiddies play right next to you at the outdoor playground. In summer, it's always nice and cool as the trees spend a lot of shade and you can enjoy some good food and drinks either inside or outside. They also have a little kiddies bathroom installed outside with tiny toilets and changing facilities. And something special: if your phone runs out of battery or is already dead, you can charge it during your stay at their specific cell phone charging station. We love their pizzas and burgers, but they have quite a few other things on the menu including a kids menu.

What a brilliant place for the 40th reunion of the UCT civil engineering graduates of 1983. Forries was an institution then, and it's still the go-to place for mates of any age to meet, greet and reminisce. The manager even made certificates for the occasion! Well be back!!

Big busy wood panelled pub, with open fire, good range of food, and TVs to watch sport. And they sell live oysters. If that's what you are looking for its hard to fault.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Foresters Arms in the picturesque suburb of Newlands, Cape Town, and it was truly an exceptional experience. From the moment I walked through the door, I knew I was in for a treat. Atmosphere: The Foresters Arms exudes a warm and inviting atmosphere that instantly puts you at ease. The interior is beautifully decorated with a perfect blend of rustic charm and modern elegance. The cozy fireplace creates a cozy ambiance, making it a perfect choice for a romantic dinner or a relaxed gathering with friends. The friendly staff and attentive service added to the overall welcoming vibe of the place. Cuisine: The menu at The Foresters Arms boasts a variety of mouthwatering dishes that cater to all tastes. Whether you're a meat lover or a vegetarian, you'll find plenty of options to satisfy your cravings. I opted for their signature dish, the grilled sirloin steak, and it was cooked to perfection. The meat was tender, flavorful, and paired perfectly with the accompanying side dishes. The menu also offers a great selection of vegetarian and seafood options, ensuring that there's something for everyone. Drinks: The bar at The Foresters Arms deserves a special mention. They have an impressive range of local and international beers, as well as an extensive wine list featuring some of South Africa's finest vintages. The knowledgeable staff was more than happy to recommend the perfect pairing for my meal, and their expertise added an extra dimension to the dining experience. Service: The service at The Foresters Arms was exceptional from start to finish. The staff was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. They were quick to offer recommendations and cater to any dietary preferences or allergies. Despite the restaurant being busy, the staff ensured that all guests were well taken care of, creating a seamless and enjoyable dining experience. Overall Experience: The Foresters Arms in Newlands is a hidden gem that truly captures the essence of Cape Town's culinary scene. The combination of delicious food, cozy ambiance, and impeccable service makes it a must-visit destination for both locals and tourists. Whether you're looking for a memorable dining experience or a relaxed evening with friends, The Foresters Arms will exceed your expectations. I highly recommend visiting The Foresters Arms in Newlands, Cape Town. Prepare to be delighted by their delectable cuisine, warm atmosphere, and outstanding service. It's a dining experience you won't soon forget.

The ambience was great, and there is plenty of indoor and outdoor sitting. I was seated outside and it was so lush and green creating a very cool and chilled atmosphere. Great selection of drinks and food, with large portions!

Foresters Arms strikes a unique balance as an outdoor restaurant and pub that caters wonderfully to both families and pet owners. With its dog-friendly approach, complete with water bowls for our furry friends, and a charming small play area nestled in sand for children, it's a haven for relaxed outdoor dining and socializing. The ambiance is notably casual and inviting, making it a popular spot for adults to unwind and catch up over drinks. The outdoor seating is plentiful and varied, allowing for comfortable gatherings in a pleasant environment. However, the food, while satisfactory, doesn't quite hit the mark of excellence. I'd rate it a moderate 5/10 - it's neither exceptional nor disappointing, adequate for a casual meal out. The most significant drawback, and one that can't be overlooked, is the level of service. Described best as 'atrocious', the service is agonizingly slow, and the staff often come across as forgetful. Whether you're waiting for a beer, a meal, or even something as simple as tomato sauce, be prepared for a lengthy wait. Additionally, the waiters rarely check in on guests, which can be a point of frustration for those who prefer attentive service. However, if you're someone who appreciates a laid-back atmosphere and doesn't mind a slower pace, Foresters Arms can offer a pleasant experience. Just set your expectations accordingly, especially when it comes to service, and you might find yourself enjoying the relaxed vibe of this unique outdoor pub.

I booked a table for my anniversary and the staff did what they could. In hindsight this restaurant may not have been the best choice. It is noisy pretty much like an old English pub. The restaurant also describes itself as an upmarket restaurant but the quality of the food is average at best. If you are looking for a boys night with pitchers of beer, or a roaring family reunion, then this is the place. If you are looking for high end food, this is not it.

Really great experience. It's so busy once you arrive and seems to much for the waiters but they are very well managed, friendly and informative. They use iPads for orders and drinks so all food and drinks get done quicker and at a very efficient pase. Smoking area is separate from the main restaurant area. Food was incredible. Tasty, not oily, fresh and made the way you ask it to be. There is a wide selection of wine, cocktails, softdrinks, juices and hard liquor. Even mocktails if you don't want alcohol. Food menu is broad and vegan, vegetarian options are available. The ribs were top notch and the fish had us all lining up for it. A big restaurant with every person in heart. Nice !

Arrived at 4.45pm. Place was packed. A good thing for a Friday night, I guess, but sometimes it was a struggle to find our waiter/s. Loved the food. I had the curry of the day - beef - and a Tequila sunrise drink to start with. Very nice!

What a place to watch a sports event at, this old styled English pub established 1852, crackling with atmosphere for the SA v NZ rugby match. We had breafast and coffee while waiting for the bar to open. The meals and coffee were delicious, cannot be faulted. At 11am the first drinks were poured, Beers nice and cold. Overall a great experience. Will definitely be back!!! Ps.... the photos were taken before the entire the pub filled up

Forries has been on my ‘Places to go’ list for the longest time and I finally had my moment to visit after the Two Oceans. What a vibe! It was packed but the ambiance was amazing! Well done to our waiter Jacob who did not crack under pressure even though the place was buzzing. I know I would’ve cracked lol. The food was great. My friends had the pork belly; salmon and cream cheese bagel, and the Forries pizza. I had the egg and bacon roll which I couldn't take a pic of as I devoured it as soon as it landed. I cannot wait to return for the buffet and to watch the rugby games. 😄
