Dias Tavern is a true Portugese experience! The smell of fish and calamari transports one straight to Portugal. The setting and the food are authentic and the service great. Reservations are essential as this place has its regular customers.

Amazing considering the last time I had been back was 20 odd years ago. Fantastic in every detail. Brilliant menu and side specials. The wine is very well priced. The food as good if not better than I remember it and the toilets... yes the toilets were like your own at home. Clean and well maintained. Service fantastic. Well done Dias you guys were packed and never dropped the customer needs.

Very nice food and great atmosphere. I went there for dinner on a busy Friday evening. The place was packed but our waitress still managed to get my party of six a table. We ordered pretty much everything on the menu 🤣 (see picture) and I gotta say, everything tasted great. There was not one thing we didn't like and the portions were fair. Stand outs for me were their juicy prawns and crispy calamari. Their chicken was nice too but some pieces were tough, just like their steak cubes. There was live performance that night and the whole place had a great vibe. After a while, they moved some tables away to open up the front of the restaurant into a dance floor.

It was a nice experience, the Cheesecake was a bit disappointing though since I could definitely taste it was defrosted but the food made up for it all. Steak was delicious and would recommend the tentacles for a starter. It was quiet the afternoon but this place can get extremely busy and reservations are recommended for popular times.

Interesting down to earth ambiance in this establishment with its plastic chairs and 'kitsch' decor in true Portuguese style. Maybe we were just expecting too much after reading all the excellent reviews but taking into account the pricing and competition from other excellent restaurants in Cape Town we were just a little underwhelmed with the experience.

An absolute gem of a place. This is one of those iconic eateries that should not be missed when you are in Cape Town. Excellent Portuguese food, in the proper style. Authentic and delicious. Super atmosphere. You know you're in a proper, good old space.

Arrived early on a Friday night for a dinner service with no booking and got lucky to be seated immediately, although a very small table. Ordered the chicken livers for starters and grilled chicken for main. Portion sizes were extremely generous. A good Portuguese style liver and chicken with the right amount of spice. Dessert was a nightmare, we ordered the tiramisu and what arrived can only be described as a poor quality vanilla ice cream sandwiched between 2 chocolate sponges about the size of a tennis ball. Waiter and host insisted this was the correct order and didn't offer to correct it. Good value for money despite the dessert debacle but don't come here if you're looking for good decor and fine dining. Very busy with a lively atmosphere and good service.

What absolutely wonderful place with True Naked Great food that is not pretentiousness. Typical Portuguese Taverns style with Super. FRIENDLY Managers Ramon and Miguel and the Head Chef Gavin. What an experience never to ever forget and Real Tast Of Portuguese Flavours. It took me back to memory Lane back to Motherland Portugal. Viva Dias Viva Comida Viva Vida Nossa

We had a quick dinner because we had another engagement. They happily accommodated us even though we hadn't booked and they were full. The beef trinchado is an absolute must and I will go back regularly for it!!

A definite local gem in the heart of the city! So much old-world charm is packed into the restaurant that unfolds as the evening progresses. Unexpectedly, our evening with friends and family at Dias turned out as one of our favourite nights out while in Cape Town. The food, the vibe, the setting and the location make it a must visit when you're in town. Tip: Make a booking as it does get busy.

Really great food and fun atmosphere. Was hard to get a table

  • 4/5 Joe R. 1 year ago on Google
Went there with several people , great experience, great live music, and service was good. Food was great, just the rice needed something, and the streak was overdone and chewy. But the prawns, calarami, fish and chicken were great tasting. Definitely worth it . Atmosphere was the highlight of the night with everyone joining in and dancing near the live band

Dias always has such incredible food, staff, and an amazing atmosphere. The restaurant was quite quiet when I went last night, but the atmosphere was still so warm, comforting, and inviting. Dias Tavern never disappoints! Their Trinchado is always absolutely incredibly delicious.

a Very relaxed good vibe atmosphere! The service was par excellent and the food was extremely tasty and well presented. This is the ideal restaurant to celebrate a birthday with friends and or just enjoying a night out with your friends.

Always a fabulous evening, great food, good live band for atmosphere and authentic in everyway. Service was extremely poor as though understaffed, but once orders were taken, the food came out hot and delicous. Seemed a new way to serve very small sardines but was excellent, and the peri peri chick was as close to perfect , juicy , spicy ,crispy char grill- delicous.

Food was as usual fantastic. First time I have ordered takeaways from them and was pleasantly impressed with the packaging of the different foods. Never have I left Dias tavern dissatisfied with either their service or food.

Great food and fast service. Would recommend the Joe Special as a main meal. Also try the super bock beer, they import it from Portugal and it's on tap. Well worth it. Be sure to make a reservation (even in the week) as it gets quite busy.

Not sure why it took over a decade to try this place but the charcoal grilled Peri-Peri half chicken was fantastic. Loved the heat - even ordered extra Peri- Peri sauce for my chips. They have cold Erdinger beers to wash it down too. Simple rustic vibe. Feels like a spot in Mozambique. Will be back.
