GREETINGS FROM ROME! A memorable experience! The food was really good, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. We tasted fired worms, different types of meat, and side vegetables and we enjoyed all the plates! The staff was kind and always happy to explain to us the food we were eating. The live music band was awesome, we sang and danced... No better way to start our last night in Cape Town!

Finally stopped there because I was told I could find some Okra Soup. Nope! However, the restaurant has an Absolutely lovely decor! The meal was delightfully tasty. Although the Salmon portion and salad was a tad bit small for the price. The South African beer was on point (Eastern). The entertainment was excellent and customer was pleasing. There is live entertainment daily 5-9. A R25 cover charge is added to your bill. If you arrive at 4 and leave at 5:30 you will be charged if you are there to sit and dine. Very nice bar as well. I really wish I would've entered this restaurant weeks ago...but I'm glad I finally did. Oh, and I purchased a T-shirt! A taste of authentic South Africa from South Africans. Here is a tip. Please tip your table service at least 18% and tip the band. Support the arts!

Since the earliest of days in our stay in Cape Town, Marcos African Place has been the best place for us. The meals served here are wonder either for individual, couple, family or group of colleagues. This is the best place to taste good food in the Mother City. Either you have called in to book your table, or you find yourself being a walk in, Marco’s African Place will have a place for you. Back to my experience, I really love this place and always looking forward to the next meal. The staff members are very good, dressed in African clothing and they are always eager to assist. Go experience this yourself…

Wonderful night celebrating at Marco’s. Food was great, service staff spectacular and the live music was the perfect accompaniment to dinner. My husband got the pan African platter and I got the oxtail curry. Both were cooked to perfection. Thanks for a wonderful evening. My husband also drank the local African specialty beer. I thought it was bad but he quite enjoyed it.

Nice traditional South African food restaurant, the food is on point and live performance is even more on point and very entertaining. There is a designated free of charge parking lot closer to the premises. The waitress was a bit rude by demanding a tip it was a complete turn off, let the patrons decide if you get a tip or not and you will always get a tip if you are nice to your customers. Otherwise I would have gave it a 5 star.

Fantastic band! Whenb foreign groups are present playing lots of fun pop dance stuff.... But also playing tons of purely African songs when they feel it! Service great. Vegan options available!

Food is rather simple and very good. But you should definitely come for the atmosphere. We went on Tuesday and had live music by an African band (mixture between pop, salsa and African songs) and the vibe was so full of energy, amazing! Food and drinks prices are fair, you'll be charged R25 per person as an entertainment charge. They have crocodile, springbok and ostrich and also a few vegetarian options. Rather busy on a Tuesday night.

Whilst clearly a tourist trap in terms of pricing and atmosphere, I’d definitely recommend Marco’s. The portions were huge, the live band with dancing made the entire night fun and the traditional African beer was tasty and very different. Overall, I’d recommend this place as a tourist, you won’t regret it!

Pretty good authentic local food restaurant. Service was rather slow, particularly since we were there after 2 pm and there we were only the second table occupied. The food was served hot and it was delicious, and the price was very reasonable. My first time to have local food and I enjoyed it very much.

  • 2/5 Roro M. 2 years ago on Google
Made a reservation and when I arrived on time, I was told that there were no tables available. Eventually when I was sitted, the waitress was not friendly and the food did not meat the expectation and hype. The live music was too loud, I could jot even hear the person sitting next to me. Nonetheless, I hope other people will have a better experience.

It was good, we tried Kudu, Springbok and Ostrich meat all in one. But the price is a little high for location and food

  • 5/5 momo 2 years ago on Google
The plus is that they play music for free from 6pm. Onwards. Meat was good although a little less tasty and more average than in other places, but the music makes it all. I can recommend the place, it is a good option for eg a last evening in the city. Very positive: they booked an Uber for us and wanted us to confirm our arrival at home in order to know that we were safe. That was really helpful.

For the most wonderful Marimba bands. A different band every day, every band is thoroughly enjoyable, but the lady singing on Friday nights, is an exceptional talent. The food is mainly done African style and I have always enjoyed it. Do not miss this place if you want a good time!

At Marco's restaurant you can breathe a convivial and fun air, the food is excellent and the live music leads you to truly appreciate the local history and reality. Obviously the choice of meats is excellent but also of side dishes and desserts

  • 5/5 Claus S. 1 year ago on Google
At first sceptic, turned out to be a good decision !! Good variety of dishes, portions could be a little larger, nice compositions, very tasty! Live music was also very nice. I can recommend.

  • 5/5 Jeremy S. 1 year ago on Google
Marco's was highly recommended to us by our airbnb host. The food, drinks, and service were excellent. There was live music when we arrived so we chose to have our dinner on the bar side. It looked like everyone was having a great time, but we wanted a more peaceful meal as it was our first night in Cape Town. It was great to hear the music at a lower volume while enjoying our conversations. The springbok was my absolute favorite. It was served with ostrich and kudu, which were also great. The drinks are very generous and the prices were excellent. This will likely be our first stop the next time we are in Cape Town.

  • 5/5 Kristina R. 4 months ago on Google
It was a fun dinner with great live music by musicians who incorporate the crowd. The food was excellent, my first try of springbok, kudu, and ostrich. Both the pinotage and the gin cocktail were good.

  • 3/5 Mary L. 6 months ago on Google
Ordered the sample platter with no sauce because I wanted to actually taste the meat. It had a sauce and it was distracting from the actual flavor of the meats. The “delicate seasoning” on the butternut squash dish is sugar. Not sure why sugar needs to be added to already sweet squash. And it’s already mixed in, so you can’t opt for no added sugar. Ended up not ordering it for this reason. Service is friendly. Music is fun. Depending where you sit you will or won’t be able to see it.

Unfortunately, I literally had a bug in my meal. Unacceptable. We ended up not paying for my meal, however, the worst part is that I've seen this when I was almost done eating. Atmosphere was happy and joyful though.

I recommend this restaurant for traditional African foods. We had kudu, ostrich, road runner chicken, lamb stew, spinach, chakalaka without sardines, mang’ina, and beans. The amarula coffee (double shot) was amazing too. Lots of tasty wines and other cocktails. Our server, Chichi was great and we met Trevor too. Very friendly staff. To top it all off, the entertainment was great! It starts around 7:30. My only request is that they make the Malawian flag 🇲🇼 visible just like the rest of them 😃

Soul food. Cooked and prepared with love and African pride. Poor people’s dishes that built my biology and neurology. Where cheap is made to taste seven star. Where food is but only a lubricant for conversation. When I miss my mother’s cooking , I turn to Marcos African Place . They never disappoint and always on point. Cape Town CBD and its white surrounding suburbs I do not like for I don’t believe it’s inclusive and welcoming to Black and Coloured people. Marco’s African Place is one of the very few spaces in the country called Cape Town where I feel safe , psychologically safe, respected and included. I am celebrated and my heritage is not served as second class citizen. It is not only about the food at Marco’s but celebration of everything heritage, customs and traditions. I love the food and I love the space and I respect the founder and it’s amazing staff .. Support businesses

Authentic African Restaurant with live performances on weekends. Big restaurant close to city centre with 2 levels serving local and western food. African game platter is a hit! Waiters are attentive and friendly. Price is reasonable. Live performances are professional but a bit loud. Booking recommended as it is always packed

One of my favourite (and best) places for South African cuisine. Marco’s has a long history of serving and entertaining heads of state, industry leaders and all lovers of African food and music. It’s the perfect night out for South African food which by its very nature is comfort food. So you leave happy and content. They always have great talent performing after the dinner service so it’s a dinner and a show kind of night out. It’s humble, easy and warm. It’s like a home away from home. When in Cape Town, it’s must. Today, I ordered Umngqusho (samp), ulusu (tripe), spinach and Smiley/skopo (sheep’s head) as takeaway. Couldn’t be happier. Soul food.
