Absolutely delicious. The place is packed with neat African oddities and the food is the highlight of our trip. It was amazing, could not recommend it enough. For a beautiful and unique atmosphere and delicious food there is no better place. Tell them it is your first time and they will help you with the menu and the etiquette. Stop reading this review and just go there.

Great venue, lost of effort put into the place to make it look green and forest ish, the staff are friendly and always smiling, i have been twice at this venue, they have another one in the cbd, however after eating here i must say the cuisine is not for me, my partner loved it, she couldn't get enough of the veggie platter, the even season the salad, i have noticed they altered their receipts for the breads, which was not liked and we wasted the breads due to this healthier version and odd taste, they should have given us the option.

A very quaint and interesting restaurant in Long Street. Decor and ambience deserve 5 stars. The food was very average and the service slow. In fairness we were a large table but the food was coming out in drips and drabs meaning some people had almost finished eating before everyone had been served. Don't think I would rush back but was definitely a worthwhile experience.

One of the best Ethiopian foods I had so far. The restaurant has a beautiful and authentic african decoration inside because of the various statues, pictures, books, woods, animals, sounds etc. The stuff is very friendly and helps with picking the food. You have to eat with your hands which is a great experience as well. Various food options with a amazing quality for its money. Worth every penny. Apart from this the prices are appropriate. Worth a visit! Insta: flotographic

Wow, this place was amazing! Not only is the food phenomenal, but someone really put in effort to create an incredible atmosphere, with all the interesting decor and vibrant plant life. We got the vegetarian platter, and ate every single bite, it was so yummy! Then we ordered another round of just the Shiro Wot because it absolutely blew our minds! Eat here! Don't miss out on this experience!

100% gluten free and delicious! We ordered the Sergenya platter and it was more than enough for 3 people.

I go here all the time, big groups or small, and it is always fantastic. You'll forget you're on such a busy road and relax into the easy forest atmosphere. The food is incredible with amazing curries all coming out on the platter with the yummy sourdough pancake. Staff are warm and welcoming, the price is great, and you can accidentally spend hours here.

It was a lovely dinner at this Ethiopian restaurant. I think I have been here 11 years ago and wanted to try it again. We have been more used to Ethiopian cuisine after flying with the airline. The place has a nice cultural feel, lots of statues around and paintings. The food was delicious, you use your hand to eat and the staff will teach you how. There’s a washbasin at the back so you can wash your hands before and after eating. The meat platter is quite large and thankfully we didn’t order it, if not we won’t be able to finish. We ordered one chicken and one beef tibs dish.

My Husband and I were walking along side long street and we stumbled upon this beautiful restaurant. We fell in love immediately. The ambiance alone is breath taking. Instantly, we felt at home. We spent over 2 hours here and the service was impeccable. There were so many plants and African decor and the food!!!!!! So much flavor!!! I had the veggie platter and my Husband had the lamb tibs. We will be back for sure and highly recommend this restaurant for authentic Ethiopian cuisine and amazing ambiance.

Absolutely delightful! The food was excellent, the service great and the price reasonable for such an experience. The decor and atmosphere is also great - I loved the little table upstairs as well, it's great everyone has a little nook. I went on a weekday night as a solo diner, absolutely no problem. I did find it a little hard to find, even walked straight past it the first time as it was not well signed - so glad I came back

We didn't have a reservation for dinner but it was fine because they made a plan. We did wait however a while for our meal and that meant that the table was occupied by us longer than expected. When the food came, it was delicious and unusual but very good. Coffee was so good, I would definitely go back but make sure that a reservation is made.

W O W we have just had diner at this cosy place and we had the best time! The staff was the friendliest I have met during our trip so far. Great vegetarian options, traditional meals in a unique interior with African objects, rugs, cushions and plants. A great place for those looking for a treat without a crowd.

Great food and service! The authentic Ethiopian style meal was amazing and afterward I bought some really nice items from the gift store. The restaurant is set up so that every group feels like they have their own private dining area and the items for sale are set up throughout the entire restaurant. They offer meat, vegetarian, and vegan options and also have beer and wine, along with other non-alcohol beverages. Definitely glad I made it here to eat and shop during my time in Cape Town.

This tiny restaurant is huge in many ways. The decor is awesome, the seating in unique and the food is amazing. We sat on the second story which is an adventure in itself. Had herbs tea and freshly squeezed orange juice and for dinner had delicious Ethiopian food which we ate with our hands as it is usually done. Great place. Highly recommend.

What an amazing uniquely African experience! Decor and tables are set up for intimate dining in groups of 2 to 6 people. Loved the feeling and atmosphere that even the music contributed towards. Brought our own bubbles (no corkage charge) but the drinks menu was very reasonable and the house merlot was top class. Had the festive platter with lamb and our group of 6 people were all full and satisfied. Efficient service and friendly staff. Definitely worth a visit

During our short stay in Cape Town we came here twice. The food is very delicious, the injera is great and the vegan platter is amazing. I'm sure you can also get more injera if you want to. Staff was friendly both times, prices are very good and the restaurant decor is very appealing.

The vegan platter is very good and healthy. The plate comes with 3 breads on plate and additional 3 breads. The whole dish is so big that I couldn’t finish though I enjoyed it. Atmosphere is top notch!

(Translated by Google) First experience of Ethiopian cuisine in this restaurant that does not look like street food, with a very busy decoration mix between gallery of African arts, bookstore and relaxation area. A success in every way: a chicken-based dish served with large gluten-free pancakes and a delicious spiced tea and Ethiopian coffee with subtle flavors. Impeccable and friendly service. Perfect!

I am a fussy eater with high standards for vegetarian food given my parents are chefs and I eat at Michelin starred restaurants in London regularly. Madam Taitou had an excellent vegetarian platter, eaten by hand without cutlery, with delicious flavours. This is hands down the best Ethiopian food I’ve ever eaten and whilst I’m not an expert, I’ve eaten at several Ethiopian restaurants. Also, the decor in the restaurant is unique and it’s open late. 100% would recommend.

Very delicious meal with a variety of food! We really like the interior design of this cozy restaurant. It felt very authentic! The choice of ingredients was good and we like all the flavours. Great if you are curious about Ethiopian cuisine and want to try something new.

  • 5/5 Alexa W. 1 year ago on Google
Fantastic! Ample choices for meat eaters and vegetarians alike. We got a few types of meat and veggies all together on one plate. The spicy lamb dish was especially tasty. And lots of injera — so much that we took some home :) ⭐️ As an added bonus, this restaurant doubles as a store. It's full of textiles, decorations, and jewelery from all over the continent. We saw some gorgeous hand woven kante fabric from Ghana. But we ended up buying some cheaper local ones 😄

Absolutely outstanding. Food was amazing. I have to believe this is traditional south african cuisine which is exactly what we were looking for. A large portion to share that two of us were not able to finish. Awesome service and atmosphere. A very unique restaurant. Dont miss this place.

Excellent restaurant with a fantastic atmosphere/design. Very friendly, supportive, and patient staff. We really enjoyed the setup and the (quality of the) food. Options are a bit limited, but for the price and flavor it is unbeatable. 5 out of 5, highly recommended!

We had a great experience here sampling the vegetarian menu. It's expected to eat with your hands but cutlery is available 😋 we loved the food and flavours. Nice ambience and friendly staff. Would 100% recommend this place to sample Ethiopian cuisine!

Unique restaurant with outstanding decor and atmosphere, packed with plants and so many African objects you could think it's a museum. Unfortunately the food wasn't as outstanding as the ambience; still good but not above average and a bit expensive.

  • 5/5 Jarne V. 1 year ago on Google
What a place. Lovely interior decorated as if you were dining in Ethiopia in the jungle. The food was also great, amazing sharing options and good taste. Do note that Ethiopian food is eaten with your hands and together with the people you dine with.

  • 5/5 Sunnie L. 1 year ago on Google
The restaurant is small and they were full when we arrived without a reservation, but they let us sit at the space in front, which was a tiny calming oasis on the side of the busy street. I would have been content to eat there but they brought us inside when space opened up. Three of us shared a platter with meats and veggies, and we ate until we were all stuffed full. The array of spices and flavors was incredible!
