One of the most amazing food experiences I had in my life, my taste busts literally bursted, most of the food I have never tried, and they make it so amazing you want to go back. Food was amazing, service was impressive and amazing. I was pregnant - and they modified my food without me even asking - how thoughtful. Definitely worth it. Will want to do this yearly.

Glad to have finally experienced this establishment. Their dishes are immaculate, l found it interesting how the cooking process eliminates any overpowering flavors from meat that you would expect to have a game like taste. You definitely need to be at peace with whichever diet you choose as some meat selections can take you by surprise. I find there is an ingenuity in offering many diet choices & catering accordingly. Staff are pleasant however there is a quiet nervousness that makes you feel like a show is about to start & that takes away from the atmosphere.

Unbelievable experience, sublime food. This is a tasting menu restaurant and I am so glad it is. It allows the chefs to really plan ahead, use the ingredients they want and not worry about wastage or daily order variations. I could not find fault with this restaurant. I loved every dish. Each course was expertly balanced in flavour and texture and the service was fantastic. We celebrated a friend's birthday and I could not imagine a better place to do so. Thank you so much Beast Team.

Never have my tastebuds been so happy before! Every dish is so well thought out and prepared to perfection. Love the range of food you get in one sitting - from fish to lamb to pork and also liver (and normally I don't eat liver but I couldn't get enough of it!)

Absolutely amazing Lunch me and my best friend popped in for lunch and it was absolutely amazing. The food was a culinary journey and our taste buds were sent on a rollercoaster of senses and pleasures at one point actually had goosebumps. Friendly and attentive staff with the level of service from the highest caliber the openness of the restaurant ads to a sense of being included in the crafting of the meals. A must for any self discerning foodie pop in sit down and enjoy the journey.

Such an amazing and different dining experience. I'm not a particularly adventurous eater, but I loved each course. The staff were all very professional. Each course was explained to us as the dish arrived. I think it was a six course meal, I lost track. I would highly recommend this for an experience.

Generally good food. When I read the reviews my expectations were quite high. Taste is subjective and I can see many people liking it. But for me most dishes were either too salty or way too sweet. I get it, that we get used to over sugared or over salted food by processed food and therefore people want even more to have a taste “explosion”. But this would be my expectation for a restaurant like this to not fall for those “easy” taste enhancers and bring other twists into the food. Besides that fresh, high quality ingredients are used and it’s a nice meal. Try it out and see how u like it.

Simply incredible! Finely tuned flavours, colours, and textures develop like an orchestral symphony from one course to the next. Belly of the Beast is a masterpiece. With a menu refresh just about every month, this is one Cape Town culinary experience that you can return to again and again, and you can be assured that it will never disappoint. Six courses, plus a delightful appetizer, a palette cleansing sorbet mid-meal, and an extra little treat at the end, means this is one taster menu that will leave you yearning for more, but you certaimly won't have any space to put it.

I think this is my favourite restaurant in Cape Town - honest, authentic and creative, but without gimmicks (no trolleys or dry ice here) - you can tell this team is passionate about food. Also really appreciate the local flavors and heritage in a very modern and friendly eating environment.

Absolute bliss... Friendly service, interesting dishes (not the 'fanciest' ingredients, but executed beautifully and brilliantly) with a great combination of flavors!

Choosing wine at a Woolworths, a stranger suddenly started helping me with my choice. Proudly said her daughter knew a lot about wine. She’s the chef/owner of Belly Of The Beast she announced. Well those wines were so good I had to try Belly Of The Beast. The bookings were like 3 weeks out so by the time we arrived there for a Sat lunch we were so ready! Unfortunately the owner wasn’t there that day to tell my wine/mother story to. But the experience there was just delightful. From the moment you walk in you can tell that every single thing in this place has been chosen for a specific reason. From the cutlery to the glasses to the artwork there is some serious taste here. But the waiters are also chefs, or vice versa, it seems. After cooking a dish they come out to introduce it to you. Cool concept. As for the food it was just awesome. A tasting menu and somewhat experimental in a fun way. Meaning you might not love every dish, but when you’re sharing that can work out well. My wife didn’t care for one dish, but I loved it and there was one I didn’t love too much that she liked. So it worked out well. The only weird thing that happened was my wife was so enjoying mopping up a sauce with their wonderful homemade bread, that she asked for another piece. To which they replied that there was no more. Odd. Although we didn’t do the wine pairing, all four glasses as we had were excellent wines. All in all I can highly recommend this place. It’s a little quirky, but that’s what I love about it.

Lovely gem in downtown. This restaurant makes it really simple for you. They have a set menu that as I understand changes once a month and that is the only menu with a flat fee. Your only choice is If you do a wine pairing or order a seperate drink. Overall the food was delicious the place was packed and had a lovely atmosphere. Highly recommended for foodies and great value for the price

One of the best food experiences we could find in SA! Went for a Friday night meal and the restaurant was obviously full. They only have one seating, but gradually allow guests in. There are 6 courses plus some additions I. The experience and most were just amazingly tasty - we liked the fact that they use local ingredients in different world cuisines like Asian, Indian etc. Menu changes every day according to the market produce, staff is nice and it’s fun to have the chef coming to the table with every course. I was a bit disappointed when we were told that they paired the same one with two of the dishes, but it was good anyway. The lamb dish was the only thing we didn’t really enjoy, as it was very, but very fatty - my lamb barely had any meat on it. We loved especially the fish with curry flavours and the Alaska inspired dessert.

A personal fav of mine, we had dinner here on Friday 13th Nov 2020 in a group, the quality of the food was outstanding, the personal touch that goes into each plating is special. As I dine here regularly, I can comfortably say that the consistency of what they serve is well maintained in terms of quality & taste. If you get here before sunset you will have a view of a heritage building across the road and the sunlight lights this up - it is a stunning view. Amongst the team there are two chefs that visit the table, the hostess & waiters regularly check on the table too. Recommended dress code is smart casual and my advise is to definitely go hungry as the portions are very reasonable and delicious. The service is great and the selection of wines is good too. The courses are served to all tables simultaneously and you are able to watch the the chefs plate from your seat as the kitchen is open plan. Portions are very reasonable too. They require a deposit as with all fine dining experiences and this can be paid comfortably online. Definitely a great choice for all occasions. Looking forward to coming through again.

Incredible evening celebrating with my wife. The food was so delicious, and not having a menu from which to choose, really introduced me to foods I would never normally have had. The waiters were really attentive, friendly and knowledgable! Having a waiter who’s been with the company for 8 years means the Belly of the beast really looks after their team, making the food and experience that much better. Incredible experience, team, location and at a fair price. Definitely a 10/10 from me!

Beautiful food, atmosphere and service. I think Belly of the Beast offers the most consistently delicious value for money fine dining experience in Cape Town. The restaurant has one evening sitting of only 20 people making for quite an exclusive feel. Covid protocols are in place. Tables are well spaced and windows opened.

Amazing guys. So stoked to see the next generation matching the top fine dining restaurants in Cape Town - if not bettering. The lamb dish was amazing, loved the South African flavour. And the Alaska next level. But each dish was so special, mussels, fish roti, beef tongue wonton all excellent. Also what a fantastic wine list. Well done.

Absolutely amazing food and excellent service. The chefs deliver the food to your table and explain the dish which adds to the experience. Very friendly staff and intimate setting. It was our second time here with a completely different menu and the food was outstanding, and enough to make you very full.

Huge foodie from NY who came here on my honeymoon and was hands down one of the best dining experiences of my life!!! Every dish was incredible!!! And one of the owners was kind enough to give us a tomato jam as a wedding gift, which is probably the best jam I ever had!!! If you are a local or visiting, this place is a MUST!

We had a wonderful evening here. Excellent service, great vibe and the food was fantastic. The chef Anoushka took the time to answer all of our questions with patience and share her knowledge of cooking in a pizza oven to this pizza oven novice! Highly recommended for a great dining experience, superb food and a lovely relaxed ambiance.

We had a fantastic lunch here! The waitstaff was attentive and friendly, COVID precautions were taken seriously, and the food was borderline transcendent. It's criminal that this restaurant has only 4.9 stars; they deserve about six.

Had a great dining experience with friendly staff and an adventure of tastes. A great focus on local ingredients make up majority of the courses, but with their own culinary twists. I'm still scratching my head at how battered hake can be so soft and creamy. All staff practice covid safety and restaurant is well spaced for an enjoyable experience in these strange times.

Incredible. This is certainly the best dinner I’ve ever had in my life. We thoroughly enjoyed every course. There wasn’t a single item that we had that night that wasn’t bursting with flavors, complimentary flavors and amazingly presented. The entire staff adhered to COVID regulations. We were seated next to the window, with very few people in the restaurant and no one sitting at any table next to us. I indulged in some of the wines from the Swartland, which I was also pleased with. I would certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone. We will certainly be back.

I love this restaurant and have been a few times. Each time their menu is different but equally spectacular. They've elegantly captured South African comfort food in fine dining, bite sized portions. You really get your money's worth here, and the service is great. If you've only got one chance to treat yourself to a true dining experience, this is the one.

Singlehandedly one of the most delicious meals I have ever had. Arrive hungry and with an adventurous palate. The service is brilliant and the lack of alcohol doesn't detract due to the clever virgin cocktails. A true delight.

Incredible from beginning to end. Not just amazing food, but a top notch crew in the kitchen and front of house. Wine pairing (including regular and large sizes, a god send) was full of surprises and left field choices that really worked with the "turn up and see" approach. Hard to pick out individual dishes, but special mention for the "bread" course - it's so much more than that! Dessert was also wonderful, and maybe the smoothest lightest ice cream I've ever eaten. If I lived in CPT, I'd be here every month. Such a cool concept, in a great intimate environment, that really celebrates everything great food (and a great dinner!) Is about.

Delicious courses of surprises. Taste buds went wild with each dish. Chefs did a great job. Each dish was presented by a new waiter(&chefs) and they all described the dish without fault. Well done. My suggestion would be to print that sessions menu for the patrons to peruse.

Great restaurant! Value for money is amazing. Staff was very knowledgeable. The wine pairing was excellent. Only remark is that one of the waitresses was wearing Birkenstocks and I personally don’t like seeing toes when I’m having diner. Also, two of the dishes had a very overpowering artificial truffle flavour.

  • 5/5 Robin F. 4 months ago on Google
Wonderful experience! Went there as a solo traveler for lunch. The service is very efficient (quite fast even). One menu for all, pairing or not. The plates each have an explosion of flavors. Lots of spices, acidity. Fish and lamb were perfectly cooked. Lots of attention for the staff. The price is very reasonable. The wines are okay, nothing exceptional, but go well with the menu. I would definitely go back, especially for the dinner menu!

What a great experience, the food the staff the whole experience was just awsome. What a wonderful place and I will certainly be back many times. Just when you think your done there's more. The fish for me was the highlight, but every dish was spectacular!

Beautiful lunch experience for an excellent value for money! We enjoyed that all dishes were made from local ingredients and had a creative twist. The chocolate dessert was simply sublime! And better come hungry because all the food is pretty rich. The only thing that sadly didn't live up to the expectations was wine pairing. We felt that not all wines were on point. But overall, highly recommended!

Had an amazing culinary lunch experience at Belly of the Beast. Each dish was unique and delicious. The chef is on point with each. The service was spectacular - both friendly but also doting. We never felt ignored for a moment. All 4 of us agreed the fish in curry sauce was our favorite - but they were all terrific. Reserve early because you don’t want to miss this. Oh yeah, and all that for ~$35 US pp!!!

I quite honestly didn't know what to expect but each item that was brought out to us hit everytime. My partner and I enjoyed our time here. We were fortunate enough to get a reservation here because most restaurants during our time in South Africa were closed. What an amazing place. I do eat out when I can and try new restaurants - this was a gastronomic experience. Go - as this was worth every cent. Beautifully plated, perfect bites and combinations. One of the best places i have eaten at. On the wine - good selection - I did a wine pairing - I do wish they would pour more than a 100ml tasting though, as you just get to enjoy the wine, then it’s finished 😢.
