We found the service didn't match up to the cost and expectations. High Tea food wasn't great. Felt overpriced. The location and gardens are beautiful!

We had the most wonderful time, our room was beautiful, the food was excellent, and we were treated so well by the staff. We particularly appreciated the sparkling wine and pastry they had placed in our room for our 25th wedding anniversary. I’d like to make special mention of Happy, who made our check-in very pleasant and welcomed us so warmly to the hotel. She helped us with various things throughout our stay, always with a smile on her face. We also had warm and efficient service from Thabisa at afternoon tea. She was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about our pastries and teas and she had a great sense of humour. Having her as our table server really helped make our afternoon tea experience even more enjoyable and memorable! A beautiful and elegant hotel for travelers who are used to the finer things in life.

Our High Tea experience was amazing - we enjoyed every moment of it. The venue and set up is beautiful, and the food was delicious. As a vegetarian, they were able to cater to my needs, which was lovely, as I could enjoy every mouthful of the high tea course. We will definitely be back :)

A grand and historic hotel that is still one of Cape Town's best. Great service, with very few exceptions. Serene, luxurious rooms, some with balconies, fine furnishings and very effective air-conditioning. Valet parking. Brilliant breakfast selection. Range of areas for eating and drinking including a large relaxed veranda, a glamorous restaurant and a bar with decent, if not fantastic, cocktails and a good selection of (pricey) spirits. A spa and a large outdoor pool with loungers set amongst trees in wonderful and well-maintained gardens. Part of the international Belmond chain of luxury hotels, the Mount Nelson comes close to matching others in the range such as those in Italy. The building itself lets the side down slightly, with some areas not quite as glamorous as those in Italy, and a few details not as well maintained. But overall, a wonderful, relaxing experience - an oasis of old-world calm and glamour in a busy part of the city.

We felt very special and looked after from the moment we arrived at the gate. This place is so iconic for a reason: tastefully decorated, luxurious but welcoming, and evokes an atmosphere of a bygone era. Loved every minute, sip and bite - from the bubbly in vintage champagne glasses to beautifully decorated pastries.

The hotel staff went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. They were courteous, responsive, and always willing to assist with a smile. Our room was beyond comfortable and well-maintained. The bed was cozy, and I love how detailed oriented they are on making sure we are comfort. There are water and slippers place right next to each side of our bed. The hotel's location is fantastic. It's conveniently situated and making it easy to explore the city. The breakfast has lots of varieties and taste super good. Will definitely return here for my next visit to Cape Town.

This is an escape into a Victorian pink dream set in a luxurious, green garden. Here tea is truly understood, brewed perfectly and celebrated. The food is very good, something for everyone including less pricey options. However, I found the service a bit slow. My friend and I stayed 2 hours for a one course meal and gave up on desert as we ran out of time. But on the other hand, you're never rushed.

We had an absolutely amazing experience here with their high tea. There was a vast spread of pastries, savoury bites as well as scones. The staff are super friendly and attentive to all your needs. We especially enjoyed the large tea selection and the recommendations given to us by our waiter turned out to be amazing. It’s always a treat going to the Mount Nelson - they truly put their guests at the centre of everything. Will be frequenting this place for as long as I can 😊

One of the most wonderful experiences we have ever had a hotel. We were there for a week with a 7 month old baby and absolutely everything was fantastic. The staff, the facilities, the food, the service. We cannot thank them all enough - a special shout out to Chris in Oasis, Lebu by the pool and the valet team! Everyone really made it a special stay and we can’t wait to come back

One of the best Hotels I have EVER been to. And I have done a few. We had a cottage near the smaller swimming pool, with table mountain as a back ground. The breakfast has to be one of the best hotel breakfasts I have had. Oysters and sparkling wine, hard to fault that. Also kippers available, my favourite. A really splendid traditional hotel with friendly, helpful staff. Brilliant

I came here with my wife to have high tea and the atmosphere was excellent. Our server Andiswa was great and very hospitable. They first gave us a refreshing ice tea followed by sandwiches, scones and sweets. They have a large variety of teas and can help you pick and try out multiple kinds inclusive. Highly recommend and make sure to make a booking before coming here.

A very beautiful hotel with a magnificent historical background. The staff are well trained, friendly and most attentive and welcoming. A very relaxing atmosphere is provided with a pianist providing delightful music. Events are well catered for and their High Tea is a wonderful experience. The gardens and lawns are vastly spread with a water feature to enhance the enjoyment of a super lunch in the manicured gardens. Do take the time to enjoy this Hotel sometime soon. Well done to the Management and staff on the High standards you provide to all your guests. Thank you for making us feel so special.

We enjoyed an exceptional High Tea at the Mount Nelson. A very special thank you to Robyn our hostess and to Craig who served us. Their attention to detail, humorous engagement, and insightful recommendations made for a phenomenal afternoon well spent making memories that will last a lifetime. The location, and hospitality we enjoyed was superb, not to mention the delicious treats! Thank you for going above and beyond Robyn and Craig, as well as to Yolande who assisted to ensure our booking was completed, and a special occasion was celebrated by all.

Amazing property. Room was great. Breakfast at the Oasis Lounge was an awesome way to start each day. Fitness center had all brand new equipment. Spa was wonderful, especially the conservatory room. And finally room service was fast and tasty!

Review I took my parents for an afternoon tea at the Belmond Mount Nelson and was thoroughly impressed! Having researched to see where to go for a nice high tea, Mount Nelson was highly recommended so here I am to add yet another positive recommendation! Craig, the tea sommelier as well as our server for the afternoon was just wonderful. He took such lovely care of us and even went to the effort to pair some of the teas with the food served - which just made the experience even better seeing as there is quite an extensive list of teas that the Belmond offers. Long story short (or long as it seems this review is getting) is that the staff at the Nellie really made us feel so welcomed and looked after. I would definitely recommend the afternoon tea at this gorgeous hotel to anyone!

Excellent afternoon tea. The BEST service. Warm towel to wipe your hands before being seated. Widest variety of tea (bottomless), can ask for replenishments at no extra charge, cake table, overall beautiful setting and a pianist creating a relaxing atmosphere. Sufficient parking available. I’ve been to many afternoon teas and this one is still the best in Cape Town. Will always come back!

We loved this place so much that we want to come back to Cape Town just to stay at this place. The staff were genuinely lovely and hospitable. There were seven of us with two kids and they knew our names, our coffee preferences, and went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and welcome. The grounds are gorgeous and well maintained. The rooms were updated with modern amenities and very clean. The food was amazing. We travel all over the world in 5 star hotels and it was by far the best food we've had for breakfast and dinner. It's hard to do a breakfast buffet well, but they did. We looked forward to breakfast every day. It was our first visit to Cape Town and the staff here made us love Cape Town even more. We will be back and tell all our friends to stay at the Mount Nelson.

I absolutely love this hotel, the best Cape Town has to offer. I come to stay at least once a year and its an iconic and memorable experience every time. The building itself, the beautiful gardens and the interiors never fail to inspire and bring joy. It's never long enough. The staff are so welcoming, the drinks and food are fantastic. I can't wait to come back!

We recently had Afternoon Tea at The Mount Nelson. It was a fabulous experience which we all thoroughly enjoyed. The setting in the Conservatory overlooking the garden was lovely. Craig guided us through the whole experience. He was extremely knowledgeable about the many and varied types of tea on the menu and happy to answer our questions. We shared tea drinking experiences from around the world! The food was delicious, a lovely mix of sandwiches and savouries, scones with jam and cream and a selection of delicious cakes and sweet surprises. It was a truly unforgettable afternoon which I would recommend to anyone lucky enough to visit Cape Town.

We had THE most fantastic time staying here. Every single member of staff was so helpful and professional, giving a very personal touch to all the interactions we had with them. The evening meals were delicious, we tried many of the different dishes between us, and the service was great every night. The rooms were well serviced each day and the bar was excellent to visit in the evening too. Concierge could not have been more helpful and arranged a visit to the penguins at Boulder Beach and a walking tour of Cape Town for us. They were very welcoming whenever we returned (and a great shout out to the doormen too). Look out for Nelly, the hotel cat - friendly when he wants to be. We hope to be able to return sometime soon!! Thank you everyone for an excellent stay.

Loved the experience. Definitely an awesome experience. The staff are amazing - they go the extra mile and make you feel special and cared for. A bit pricey - but an absolute must-do bucket list item

A birthday πŸŽ‚ treat. Being a visitor to Cape Town i got taken here for lunch. Very striking establishment which is pleasant to the eye. Ordered wine 🍷 which was very nice. Studied the menu for lunch and was disappointed with the choices. All three of us had the same opinion. The special burger I chose was very bland in taste and not very exciting. Better luck next time.

Highly recommend popping into this beautiful historic hotel, whether it be for a night’s sleep in the stunning suite or a picnic under the trees! There’s something for everyone! Not to mention their amazing high tea 😍 Have never once been let down. My all time favorite place to visit in Cape Town

Had an amazing experience here with their High Tea service. The spread we got was sublime and surprisingly filling. The best part was the tea. Each pot was fragrant and distinct from the stuff we get from a store, even from Woolworths. Our table had a tea master on hand, named Daryl, who was able to explain to us everything. From the origin of the tea, to what pairs best with what. All in all, I'll definitely return again πŸ˜€

Went for a Sunday Jazz brunch - what a spread! Absolutely delicious. Seating was outside on the verandah as it was a beautiful Autumn day and the view across the garden to the pool was lovely. The live music was in the background and not intrusive - rounded off the peaceful ambience perfectly. Treat yourself.... You will not be disappointed πŸ₯‚πŸ˜Ž
