Small níce reserve along the R 27 north of Bloubergstrand. Close to Big Bay beach, 🌊🌊🏞️ a more natural beach than the popular Bloubergstrand Beach. Grassy landscape and small dunes behind the beach lane. Unfortunately I was there on a light misty day. I hardly could see the Table Mountain to take a famous Table Mountain pic, actually should Bloubergstrand the best place. So finally I had to edit my pics.

Great braai spot near the beach, not directly on the beach, but very close. Nice and clean

Enjoyed a wonderful day out with family today at this gem of a beach and braai spot. You do have to pay an entrance fee per person and for your vehicle, but it's worth it as it promotes a better vibe of company and adds security for your car. There are stations to braai at which is so great and it has facilities. There are two outside showers to rinse off the beach sand and sea. The ladies and gents loos could do with some TLC as some stall doors in the ladies don't shut as they are too stiff and there were no paper towels to dry hands. Appreciated the liquid soap and loo rolls. We shall definitely come back again, scenery too lovely!

Such a lovely nature reserve not far from Big Bay. Plenty of covered picnic spots and places to braai (bring your own wood, firelighters, grid, food, water, snacks etc.) at Eerste Steen. A beautiful long clean beach to walk on with breathtaking Table Mountain views. The water is icy so best to wear a wetsuit for swimming and surfing. There were no lifeguards here, so be extra careful when you're in the water. There are loo facilities but I didn't use them so don't know what condition they're in. A fun day out for the whole family. There is a cost to enter the reserve. Prices vary but are reasonable for SA citizens. Remember to extinguish your fire out properly to avoid a veld fire.

Flowers all over the place! BeautifulπŸ₯° Saw a mole snake, mongoose and lots of butterflies and bees visiting the flowers. Update 24/7/22 Beaut of a day despite the light wind. Franklins (birds) out in force and if you sit quietly they come in really close. Awesome to listen to them 'talking' to each other as they forgage, so cute!!πŸ’“

We tagged along with friends who recommended this braai/picnic area. It is located on the West Coast, inside the Blaauwberg Nature Reserve, just on the outskirts of Blaauwberg. Entry is; R17 per person R25 per vehicle The toilet facilities are not the greatest, however, it was clean with loo paper and hand soap. Does need a facelift Picnic sites have reeded shelters/shade with a table & seating and braai (Bbq) facilities. Pros; Close to the beach Easy access to the beach via foot paths Two play areas for smaller children Sites are not on top of each other Water points Cons; Can get very windy and unpleasant Get there early to get the better sites Sites have a fair amount of sand Minimal grass What to bring along; Sunscreen Sunhats Gazebo Beach Umbrella Wind Break/Boma to break the wind Your braai goodies There's a Pick n Pay down the road for any urgent purchases. I would visit Eerste Steen Resort again.

Being so close to the beach, you would think that Blaauwberg Nature Reserve would be a windswept nightmare, but you’d be absolutely wrong. The reserve is the ideal place to bring friends and family for some relaxation time. There are plenty of braai spots that include tables and benches – some also have shade built over them for hot summer days. There are acceptable bathrooms on site and sufficient parking close to you picnic spot so that you don’t have to worry about your vehicle. Other people you will find there are generally friendly and it’s not uncommon for people to offer help if your struggle is visible. Entrance fee is minimal and you can spend the time relaxing and there is play equipment to keep the kids amused. The place is laid out s that wheelchair users can navigate to a significant degree. The beach is available for walks, swimming or surfing.

Our go to place when we want to braai and just have a beautiful view. A place to take your family, friends and colleagues to enjoy. When the sky is clear you can see Robben Island, Table Mountain and of course the beautiful beach. I would advise that you should take a braai stand with for convenience. Their built in's dont have grids or grates but should you have either one of those you can still take them along then use bricks found in the area mostly inside other built in braai stands so that you can braai. There is an entrance fee for consumers and their vehicles. Please note that this place requires a private vehicle so that transportation does not become a problem.

Went there the morning of 5 November 2022, to set up a surprise 16th birthday party. It was cloudy and windy in the morning but very hot in the afternoon. The water was cold but you get used to it if you stand in it long enough. The security patrols every few hours, so safety is no concern. There is an entry fee and no alcohol allowed on the premises (however they barely search the vehicle properly, as I saw people drinking opposite where we were sitting). This is a cool place if you want to hang/chill. The beach wasn't crowded either. Be wary of the seagulls, they can be vicious. Also after you braai, make sure to cover all your food because the flies are every where. Don't forget to apply sunscreen, you will get sunburn. The bathrooms are not too clean and the taps do not work. Make sure to take your own toilet paper. There is a small park thing set up for kids, like a slide and monkey bars.

You need to pay to enter this place. There are braai facilities inside and lots of seating areas. Perfect for a great day out. However it gets quite busy on weekends so go early to secure a spot. The beach is clean and beautiful with amazing views of Table Mountain. Strictly no alcohol allowed. Car is checked on entry. Entry fees Feb 2024 - Car R28, Adults R20, Kids R15

I thoroughly enjoyed this reserve. Great 4km hike on sand. Beginners welcome. Come in groups (3 or 4 people). The facilities include a braai and gazebo set up. Very family orientated space and you literally have a private beach in front of you.

Perfect for a BBQ peaceful chill out, you need to carry your braai equipment though, like everything even the braai top, no alcohol allowed or loud music. The beach side is perfect with a clear beautiful view of the table mountain, it's a peaceful place to go fetch your sanity!!!

Great place, and great scenery. Always a cool sea breeze that keeps place cool. But don't let that fool you, bring sun block. Christmas 2020 still had few spots available, so the place was not packed at all. Clean bathroom facility. Paid R60 to enter for car and 2 occupants. No alcohol allowed.

Great space to have a braai close to the beach. There is a no alcohol policy and cars are searched. This makes it a very family friendly venue. There is a jungle gym and bathroom facilities, with a outside shower to wash off the sea sand. Easy access to the beach, just be aware that this is not the main swim area, so there is no life guards on duty. Also kids can cycle around inside.

Absolutely beautiful and safe place for families. No alcohol is allowed here, and it makes this place ideal for families. Law Enforcement is doing patrols regularly, which gives you added security. Not expensive - R28 per car, R20 per adult, and kids pay R15.

Stunning views, braai areas, shady tables and benches, playground equipment and friendly and helpful staff resulted in a happy and relaxed day. No alcohol or loud music is permitted, which is a definite plus. Toilet facilities are wheelchair friendly and the paths are easy to navigate. A huge plus would be if a wheelchair friendly pathway or two leading onto the beach could be added, since the sea is largely blocked from view for wheelchair users. Apart from this, definitely an enjoyable place to spend a day with family and friends.

This was a relaxing experience at the beach. You pay next to nothing to enter. My family and I had a braai and spent a lot of time in the water. The kids were building sand castles and enjoyed the surroundings. Overall it was a lovely experience

What a lovely time we had at the beach! Here at Eerstesteen you have picknick and braai areas. There is a little entry fee payable. The toilets were clean! There is an edu building where the children had school outings before and this time we came for the holiday program. Thus the sand art (see photos)

Wonderful place to be if you're a beach lover, especially the sunsets, with someone you like. 😏

  • 3/5 Alicia V. 3 years ago on Google
It's a nice venue if you don't mind the West Coast heavy wind. Its a 2 min walk to beach, which is lovely, but it is a very basic site with a few picnic tables nicely spaced from each area so your not in the next family's way, with braai facilities. That's about it. Suggest you take a tarp and rope to tie around your picnic area, it will really help with the wind. Toilets are OK. Don't expect lush greenery, it's not that kind of nature reserve. It's more fynbos and sand.
