Situated in the Silvermine Nature Reserve - you need to pay an entrance fee or use your Wild Card membership. Beautiful surroundings with a planked walkaway around the dam and some awesome picnic spots. No dogs allowed on the one section of the dam. Great for swimming especially after a long hike.

Driving through to the parking lot there are other trails as well but we headed straight for the dam. Parking area was sufficient and it was a 5 min walk to the dam. Took me 20 minutes as I had a bad flare day 🙈 . I sat down when we reached it and hubby went around on his own. Water in the dam was quite full and people were having a swim and relaxing around the area having a picnic. Please take your water bottle and snacks as there are no shops. Don't forget your sunblock and hat 😉 Enjoy

Did Elephant Cave hike with family. Nothing too strenous and was rewarded with great views. Then went for jog on circular route with slight detour to visit the peak (amazing 360 views). Ended up at dam with plenty of people and dogs. Much different vibe to Jonkershoek or Mont Rochelle in the Winelands.

After the fires took out the pine trees many years ago, some people stopped coming because there was no shade. But the fynbos has grown in quite thick and while it provides less shade I think this is a big improvement. The pines shaded the dam making the water much cooler. These days it's swimmable for longer on the year. There are not a great number of spots and it can fill up quick but I've seldom seen it full. And you don't really notice other people much. If you don't like overcrowded beaches, you'll love this spot. There are no life guards on duty but there are large shallow reaches all around the edge. Cash only. No card facilities at gate. Public toilets available. No kiosks - bring your own refreshments. Fuller review of the whole reserve available on the Silvermine reserve pin.

Sad that nobody told me about this sooner. Such a cool spot to swim. Only 500m from car to water. Dogs allowed.

I have been wanting to go here for YEARS and I am sooooo sad I waited sooooo long to go!!! We had a ball, it's beautiful, the water was warm to swim in. The walk from the car park to the picnic area is short. For those keen hikers, there are walking trails. The bathroom was a long drop ( my sons face when he saw the toilet... priceless... he he he) And it's pet friendly, our dog had a ball

Great picnic spots around the dam. The picnic spots are well constructed, and offer a fair amount of shelter from the wind. There is easy access to a myriad of hiking trails and scenic walks. What a gem.

Breathtaking escape from the city - this little corner of the earth is sure to take away all your problems. A few hiking trails provide the option of leisurely walks around the dam with amazing views. The reserve is really well maintained and the dam itself is a great place to chill off if you're needing to cool off on a hot day. Definitely on my list of favourite places under the sun

Well maintained spot to picnic, swim in the dam or enjoy a walk. There are several walks available here of varying difficulty from a simple stroll around the dam to more strenuous hikes up the local mountains. There is no cellphone signal in the area and entry is cash only.

Such a beautifully looked after place with friendly staff. Also loved the easy hiking trails and loved that I was able to take my dog with.

Gorgeous views, lovely location and a treat just driving up there. A hidden gem in the area, I'd say. The hike looks pretty decent too but we didn't go to far in. It's a place I'd highly recommend for a leisurely stroll or a hike and a picnic with friends.

A lovely part of the TMNP, paths and infrastructure carefully maintained. Finishing off a hike with a swim in the cool pristine waters of the dam makes for an idyllic day

Beautiful views! Take cash with you as there are no speedpoint facilities. R80 per adult if you are a resident of Cape Town. R120 or R140 I think if you are a non-resident.

What an experience, wonderful nature walk, lunch on the mountain and back down to the dam. Will do the other hiking trails next weekend.

Lovely hike up to Elephant's Eye from parking area. Pay your R36 entrance fee and drive to parking and start your hike there. To save money, get a Wild Card for an annual fee and get almost unlimited access to most nature reserves and picnic spots.

Incredible hiking and relaxing area with a dam and awesome chill spots Relatively easy to get to the cave with stunning views looking towards muizenberg. A dip in the dam to cool off. Unfortunatley the braai fascility has been suspended.

Lovely views, quiet and pleasant walks, though can get busy at times. R40 adult entry fee (R80 for tourists) - pay cash at main gate. Can swim at reservoir.

Silvermine hiking trails are really beautiful but the noordhoek trail is not very clearly marked especially if you are hiking off the road track

What an experience For 3 adults with two dog under R200. Beautiful, clean, and ne of the best maintained parks to go for a walk. It take us about 90 min of slow slow slow walking and taking water pitstop evey 20 min. We saw trail running and mountain bikes and groups of tourists enjoying the rout. This we try and walk once a month if weather ☀️ permits us.

👍👍 Was and is still is One of the great beaches in the western cap. Its massive. Dogs love it. Duck for kids. And when it’s not windy so great for just lying and chilling. Some of the greatest surf spots in the world too.
