Such a shame! We had been backpacking for 11 months and for our very final stop we decided to splash out and go for a nice hotel. Unfortunately, we had nothing but problems with our room when we got there. Our room was nice and big, but when we were told it was newly refurbished and finished only 3 days before we started to wonder if it was bit of a rushed job. Then the power suddenly cut out to the whole room as we were getting ready to go out for dinner. After being checked by engineers, they couldn’t fix it so we used another room to get ready and left hoping the power would be back on when we got back. It wasn’t. We spoke to reception who said they would offer us R1000 in compensation and move us to another room the following day and that “it would be a good one!” …. We received the R1000 and a letter under the door, but stayed for another 3 nights in the same room as the management never moved us. The room was also very noisy from the hallway which is always disappointing when staying in a more upmarket hotel. The location is right on the beach with shops and restaurants too. Just a shame they tried to pass off the room as finished when It clearly wasn’t!

Loud renovations above our room so we heard construction noises all-day. Basically couldn’t be in the room from 0800 - 1830 because of the noise for all four days. Sinks don’t get hot water. This would be one star review but the wait-staff and security were great.

I am here now. Great room with view. BUT PLEASE UPDATE YOUR BATHROOMS. Absolutely shocking , like something from my nans house circa 1975. The rest of the hotel is on point, but please. Up your game! Just stayed in 2 hotels in the city centre new and modern with crisp, fresh bathrooms. PS whats with the blue chair ffs Before I forget, check in is at 2pm. My room wasn't ready till 2.35 Don't be surprised went check out when I feel like it.

We booked the room with specific requests. On arrival room was not ready and beside our requests were on record they were totally ignored. The room was dirty and the uncomfortable bathroom was missing basics. The bed has a mattress that is so hard that it seems to sleep on the floor. Seevice book as well as basic information was missing. No pen or paper. The room is basic and surely not a 5 star. Staff in general.not organized. Breakfast staff was the only pleasing highlight of a never to repeat experience

I had an international tour group coming. We settled half of the hotel bill ahead of their arrival but couldn’t pay the balance before their arrival due to the bank forex desk being closed on a weekend. I begged the hotel to let them check in on the Sunday as the deposit covered a day and a half of their visit, and we would settle the balance the very next day on a Monday when forex desk is open and our accountants are at work. They still refused. I personally drove to the hotel ahead of the guests arriving and still tried to reason with them. Vanessa had flagged my booking that guests should not be allowed to check in or given keys to rooms despite the 50% deposit (equivalent to 1,5days’ stay) having being paid. We booked 6 rooms. When I saw that I was not getting anywhere with them, I asked for the money we paid to be reimbursed immediately so I could put them in another hotel. I was ready to take them to my original choices (before I got swayed) - Radisson Waterfront or Tintswalo Atlantic. And only then did they agree to allow them to check in. Their stay was horrible. The rooms have smelly carpets😷 No hot water in one of the rooms. On check out morning 2 guests bathed with cold water because the maintenance team did not respond to the call for hot water, The guests occupying the suite could not sleep the one night because the occupants in the room next door were smoking marijuana which filtered into their room. Another guest requested an iron which never came. The walls are not sound proof so the DJ from Cause & Effect bar right next to the hotel sounds like he’s playing in your room every night. A total disaster of a hotel! 🤒 I should have known from the group booking process that it was shambles. Travelling with the group to Johannesburg and checking into Palazzo Montecasino saved the day! Otherwise it would have been a terrible hotel service experience of South Africa for most of the group first-timers in Mzantsi. You are spoiled for choice in Cape Town for accommodation. The Bay Hotel Camps Bay is certainly not worth it!

We were greeted with a smile the moment we stepped into the restaurant, the cocktail I had was made infront of me with actual fruit "which I loved"

I have not stayed at the hotel but I have used the spa and pool on two occasions and oh my god, amazing. The spa is such a treat and the staff are so good at what they do. I cannot remember the name of who gave me a massage but Mbali did my facial and it was the best facial I’ve ever had, and I’ve had a lot. The pool is lovely as well and you can use it when you use the spa (after spending a certain amount) in the off season. Would highly recommend!

This was my third visit to use the pool for the day as a non-hotel guest, and on this occasion I was told by no less than FOUR staff members that pool access would cost R650, and this is in a very direct, not especially delicate way. Once walking into the property, once at the front desk, once entering the pool area, once when we were sat and asked for menus… Cherry on the cake was the waiter who came with his card machine to bill us for pool access as we had our hands full of sunscreen, and before we even had the chance to order drinks or food 🤯 So extremely frustrating - had half a mind to leave towards the end.

My favorite spot. Whether just for the day by the pool with snacks or staying over night. The Bay hotel never disappoints.

Amazing! This must be one of the best accommodations I have ever experienced. Helpful and friendly staff, amazing food and drinks, location is superb with a breathtaking viewing over the beach. Big shout out to Peter Jaftha who assisted us during our stay at The Bay and Camps Bay Retreat. He is the type of person you want in the business. His hospitality makes you feel welcome from the first time you start talking to him or when you need any assistance.

Thank you to all who made my stay feel like I was at home. This hotel understands that hospitality is far more than service, which is so difficult to teach. I will be back only because of the care, friendliness, warmth and professionalism of the entire team - from FOH, waitrons, managers, F&B, security, room perfectors! Wow and thank you 🩷

Had such a great experience! The staff is very friendly and helpful. The location can’t be beat in camps bay. The breakfast was tasty with a good view and the pool service was fantastic! I felt very safe and relaxed. Plus they even gave us a complimentary bottle of champagne and dessert for two to celebrate our honeymoon! If you are visiting camps bay I would highly suggest !

Very disappointing! The only reason to stay at this hotel is due to its location at the beach but the hotel itself is a 3 star maximum and not a 5 star. The hotel rooms, furniture, beach towels are all very used and old and the breakfast is just not acceptable at a 5 star hotel. The only thing they welcome you with is a water with flavor and when we asked about a nice welcome drink like a glass of champagne we were told that they no long have a welcome drink. The mini bar was like a hostel and I for sure would never recommend this hotel to someone looking for a 4. -5 star hotel. This only works if you are traveling on a budget and looking for a bed to sleep. Sad and disappointing

Worth the price. Safe with good security. Walking distances to good restaurants. Incredible views. Awesome staff.

This place is very beautiful, I had to drop off a friend and the security was on point, appreciated that they did not just agree to open for us without confirming our bookings. I couldn’t stay long but it is beautiful, and the service… from the reception, was great. Can’t wait to go back, this time to enjoy my stay there.

Can’t go wrong with location but unfortunately the hotel food is very average and overpriced. Does not cater for children (ours were 5&6) very well. We also had an unfortunate smelly drain in our room (Cabanas 131&132) that took a while to fix and persisted throughout the stay. The actual water out the taps also smelled horrid. Service from staff was friendly and can’t be faulted. Size of rooms and bathrooms very nice. Nowhere to hide on a windy day though, all the swimming pools are exposed. But in terms of location, you can’t go wrong. Walking distance to Camps Bay beach and all the bars and restaurants. Good for 1-2 nights if you have small children but can’t do more than that.

A fantastic view of the bay and sea. An experience to remember with great pool and sea view room. I highly recommend the hotel. Food is not that good but the restaurants next door are fantastic .

The staff leave a lot to be desired. One morning we were rudely interrupted by someone at 9am who abruptly opened our room door with no warning and claimed a photoshoot was planted in our hotel room, during our stay ?? We booked the sauna and steam room the night before at reception and in the morning, we were told the message hadn't been received which disrupted our morning the next day. The only light at the end of the tunnel are Pamela Nel and the kind ladies who did our massages - the only people who deserve to work there.

I have stayed at The Bay hotel on multiple occasions but unfortunately standards have dropped and my latest experience disappointed greatly. We checked in late (after sunset) and realized very early in the AM that they have put us in a room right next to loud renovations. After informing the front desk , we only got our R80 parking spot fee taken off our payment. Bear in mind we payed just under R3000 to stay here just to be woke abruptly. Upon check out i realized my card was charged twice, i left all my details regarding the refund to go smoothly and was informed that it would take between 3-7 days. After ALMOST 3 weeks , countless calls and emails, no one getting back to me i finally reached one manager that was willing to help me (Martin) he was outstanding and sorted the refund out promptly. Not one other person took the time to apologize ,call me back (after leaving my number EVERY SINGLE TIME) or offered some sort of discount on our next stay. I received a email from the hotel to rate my stay/experience and was requested to leave my number so that someone could follow up with me.....needless to say NO ONE called! I definitely wont be going back and im taking every single person i suggested to stay at the Bay with me. What a shame!

Security on point, staff friendly and welcoming and super helpful. Room was spacious, comfortable and had a beautiful view of the Twelve Apostles. The Bistro restaurant in the hotel serve the most beautiful food for dinner & the breakfast was sublime. The pools were also fabulous. Would recommend anyone to stay here!

Great position in Camps Bay. Decent sized rooms. Stayed at the Cabanas on floor 1. It’s actually a great location as you have you own ‘private’ pool and gardens. The best thing about this hotel and within the group is that they are pet friendly. Absolutely love and will continue to support the group of hotels as they care about your furry friends. Things that could improve - the staff at the restaurants is not very attentive.

I had an incredible long weekend at this hotel. My room was clean and capacious with a private balcony , private bath and shower. The room not only had a bed but a small lounge area too to enjoy a cup of coffee. Camps Bay is one of the most beautiful areas of the western cape with incredible views of the Atlantic Ocean and Table Mountain. The beach is as clean as a whistle , white golden sand and big rocks to climb on. The food at the hotel is scrumptious and it offers a buffet and a cooked English breakfast. There is a pool for guests to swim , a spa and a coffee restaurant. I had a nice swim in the sea because the hotel is a beachfront hotel and from the hotel itself I could enjoy incredible views of the beach , the ships on the horizon and table mountain. This hotel is at a walkable distance to a mini mall to buy snacks and cold drinks for the beach or other activities. The crime rate is very low in this area and the police offers are patrolling constantly to make sure the area is safe for tourists as well as Cape Town residents so I felt quite safe.

Service levels of check in staff were not good at all, our room wasn’t ready at check in (only after 3pm). Then still had to try locate our bags. Phone in the room wasn’t working and was quite shocked at the room quality. No effort was made for our anniversary either, overall a disappointing experience.

We arrived on Sunday 20th March with the intended aim to stay here for the last nights of our holiday. Firstly, this is never a 5 star hotel by any stretch of the imagination. It is tired, old and shabby. It’s a 3 star equivalent at best. During the check in process we were informed that the main pool was shut because of a conference - we had not been notified when booking. This conference also meant the hotel was essentially a building site (see photos). We were shown to our room, which was supposedly a mountain view. It actually had a view of a corrugated metal roof and the tennis courts. The room was tired and in need to a refurb, the bathroom had damp. We went to reception and immediately informed them that we would not be staying there and went to find alternative accommodation. Staff were unhelpful and opaque about who had the authority to deal with a refund, and tried to bounce us around. Very frustrating. We are now in dispute with The Bay Hotel to get a refund as the product is not as advertised. So far they have not replied to our emails, we will be escalating with Booking.com. Avoid.

I used to love this hotel until I stayed there again in December. Didn't have hot water in the room throughout the entire stay along with the shower's drain being blocked upon arrival. Only on the 4th day, after complaining numerous times they gave me access to another room to go shower in.

Bad : On our last day my drone got stolen around the pool. I alerted management straight away to check the CCTV footage. The manager said that they were getting IT to download the footage. I followed up with them several hours later to find out how they’re getting on with that CCTV footage to which the manager replied that they’re still downloading it. I found that to be quite suspicious as the theft had only happened the day before so why was it taking so long. We then had to leave for the airport and the manager said that he will contact me via email to let me know the outcome of the CCTV footage. Well it’s 5 weeks later and I’ve not heard a thing. I guess they’re still downloading that footage… Good: We had a great stay, the room was spectacular and housekeeping did a wonderful job at keeping our room and bathroom clean. The included breakfast every day was also very nice.
