The hotel is from a different era and is built to be luxurious and comfortable. The rooms are very large and quiet. You sometimes feel as if your alone in the building even though the hotel is bustling when you go into public areas. The beds offer a very comfortable sleep. The service was superb. The views were also amazing!

We were only supposed to stay here for 2 nights, 2 weeks later and we still find it hard to leave. The staff make this place, from the security guards, catering, porters and desk staff. It’s old school charm what separates it from other hotels and staff. One improvement I would like to see is an update with more gym equipment.

The hotel is in the city, and accessible to a lot of happening nightspots. Rooms are clean and spacious. The buffet spreads were very good.

Poor experience, porter picked up my bags, dropped my wife's cell phone which was damaged but management is refusing to take responsibility. Gave us different stories as to why the phone was only located approximately 3hrs later. I stayed in a non smoking room but we could smell cigarette smoke which affected my wife's chest as she's allergic to cigarette smoke. We had to be relocated to another room late at night. The building needs an upgrade. Toilets, bath needs urgent replacing. Breakfast was good

Bathrooms needs to be updated. Shower curtain does not keep the shower water from messing over onto the floor. Would also be nice to have a top sheet. Mattress was very comfortable. Breakfast and supper delicious. Manager and staff very friendly and accommodating.

Hotel is dated and is in need of a proper revamp. Had to change rooms 3 times due to Maintenance and Housekeeping issues. Housekeeping seriously needs to be retrained as they seem to NOT know how to properly service a hotel room. The very BASIC things were not done like our bins were never emptied and never bothering to even vacuum the room. Housekeeping staff "clean" rooms behind closed doors and you never actively see them busy during the day. When front desk staff were told about the lack of cleaning, I got the impression that he did not care and that, that type of service was acceptable. I've stayed in hotels all around the world and this type of service is NOT deserving of their "4 Star" rating. Did not have a pleasant experience at all and I really feel like the Southern Sun Cape Sun has dropped their standards tremendously.

This hotel is located right in the city center and walking distance to the famous long street. This is one of the hotel which have been there for some time, you can by the showers in the bath tab, however it is beautiful, I stayed there for 5 days and It was a good stay.

I stayed in this hotel, amazing place and amazing people, the General Manager Wayne was always on top of things, making sure the guests are well looked after, Lucinda Nefdt was nice, always smiling and making guests comfortable. The staff were nice and very accommodating. Great place to stay, you will not regret it.

For a night or two it’s “okay”. For the price per night, the rooms are not well maintained, the customer service can do with a bit of improvement, the staff are not very welcoming. The breakfast is definitely not worth it, the catering staff know that it’s buffet and as expected in a buffet, no effort goes into ensuring that the food is a little enjoyable.

I’ve not stayed here right. But the service is below standard. I wanted to make a reservation for the festive season and the calls transferred through to an empty dark hole cause no one ever answers on the other side. I’m thankful I don’t need accommodation now cause I was never going to get any assistance. I have just made contact now and the lady took my details. This after I convinced her I wouldn’t have minutes or data to send an email. I don’t think I will book with them. I can’t struggle even before check-in. Please get ur house in order. First impressions lasts.

What an incredible experience!! I've traveled around the world and stayed in many different hotels, and this one easily reaches into the top 5 I've stayed in. Immediately upon walking in through the rotating doors, a bellhop greeted me and took my luggage. The staff were all friendly and enjoyable to speak to. The rooms are beautiful and spotless clean. The view from the elevator and rooms are breathtaking!! It was a shame I only spent two days here. If you come to Cape Town stay here!!! You will have a nice quiet rest and then an immaculate breakfast! It was just absolutely delicious, and a chef cooks your eggs to order! When I come back, I already know where I'm staying and will recommend this place to everyone I know.

Breathtaking views of table Mountain. Very well maintained, comfortable rooms. Friendly staff, efficient housekeeping what more could you ask for. Comfy beds. Plenty of fresh clean towels. Safe lock up and go. Easy check in and out. Love the elderly gentleman playing piano at reception. One thing we didnt know about was that you had to pay for parking separately, but overall a pleasant experience and stay.

The room was excellent, the welcoming free bottle of wine and cheese platter in the room was a great touch... But Grand old Dame of Cape Town is showing her age could do with a revamp in the common areas, still very 1980s, I remember when the doors open in 1982 and don't think anything has been changed Down side was that the hourly hotel shuttle bus to the V&A had been cancelled over the New Year celebrations forcing guests to catch taxis..

I stayed in this hotel last January, and during my stay the hotel locker wasn't working so I hid my wallet inside my bag. While I was gone out someone, possibly a staff member, stole my bank cards detail and used it. I noticed it after I've checked out of the hotel then informed to the hotel management by phone and email and no action was taken nor acknowledged. SO BE CAREFUL DURING YOUR STAY!!!!

The rooms were very clean, the buffets had a selection of foods so that it wasn't repetitive. The location is central and restaurants, Woolworths and clubs are within walking distance. We had a lovely view of Table Moutain. Mouille Point is a mere 10 minutes away by car.

The Cape Sun reminds one of the old world hotels where the world used to come stay. They ballroom is exquisite and the food divine. We hosted a sport awards there and 400 people fitted in very easily!

Rooms look very nice, with comfy beds and bathroom. My experience had a few issues , there was a leak in the bathroom that just didn't get sorted. Food was fairly good and the manager quite helpful and friendly. Arrive early to receive parking otherwise you my struggle. Parking very tight, if Ur a novice driver, the underground parking isn't for you

Magnificent. Right in heart of the city, offering the best views of Robben Island, the harbor, and the beautiful stadium. A lift ride is an adventure itself, as you rise above the city. The spread of food, the warm staff, live piano shows... entertainment all the way...

I loved the glass elevator. It shows the most beautiful views of Cape Town. I have to keep going up and down taking photos and videos. The rooms are huge, air con works well and is not noisy. My room had a bath tub which I enjoyed soaking myself for an hour after a long day. The breakfast has a variety to cater for everyone. The fish offered during breakfast in one of the mornings was super yummy. The hotel is located close to everything (train, bus, taxis, conference centre, long street night life, restaurants etc).

The food at the restaurant in the evening was exquisite! The service of staff was friendly and helpful. However, the total experience was underwhelming. I had a cold shower (I was not going to wait longer than 15 minutes to get hot water running). When is was my wife's turn to shower in the evening I called the front desk who sent Maintenance to fix the problem. After two visits by Maintenance and 20 minutes - miraculously there was hot water. Then when we wanted to shower in the morning the water remained cold again. It appears that the hotel does not have a keen eye on maintenance. For example, the soap dispenser was dangling from the wall. In the morning we ordered Americanos. They arrived in paper cups and not ceramic. I have never experienced with a hotel of this class to serve coffee in the rooms in paper cups.

The service is excellent at front desk and porters. Room is very comfortable with beautiful view of table mountain. Bit disappointed in how limited the variety at the restaurant and breakfast was. But overall a very enjoyable stay and will definitely recommend.

The breakfast was very nice, the dinner not so much, not too much choice available. The rooms and view is spectacular. Not giving 5 star because of the dinner but everything else was beautiful, service from staff, the room.

Good service. Food was decent. The rooms were nice but the bathroom wasn't cleaned properly. Could see it was still dirty from previous guests.

A very good hotel! Meals are well served, rooms are clean, modern, lifts are clean too and escalators can easily take you to floors near by the ground floors. Snacks are excellent

The hotel needs a light renovation. The rooms and toilet needs fresh coat of paint. The dinner buffet was very basic. The breakfast was average and the staff weren't very helpful. The staff was only helpful to the white customers. The pool was cold, wish it could warm in winter. The location is great an the view from the 28th floor was amazing.

The hotel has a great atmosphere & stepping into it is a pleasure. FOH staff are great but the only let-down was the waiters serving our lunch. One would expect a friendlier & more accommodating manner with patrons from waiters who work in such a high caliber institution. If not, at least smile when tending to us. Felt as if I was disturbing their day. Really brought the entire experience down & don't think I will take my clients to lunch here in future.

I had to pay a lot of money due to some exhibition in Cape Town. It is an average hotel and doesn't have many amenities in the room. The front desk staff tried their best to give good view room but wasn't a great view. A special thanks to Evan.

The evening we decided to try out the restaurant with my partner for her birthday, the staff appeared unsure of the restaurant's setup for the evening. When we were eventually attended we were given some kinda trainee waiter who did not know what was what. Eventually as the nihht went on interacting with the rest of staff the sevice improved qnd they were in fact friendly and helpful.

Getting a bit old but, will appeal to the older folks. Needs to be modenised. Still worthwhile. I personally liked it, I guess that makes me the older folk....

The warm water pressure in the room left a lot to be desired. The only hotel that I've ever been to that didn't replenish the condiments daily. Their buffet was top tier with a variety of foods to suit most palates. The staff was friendly. I liked the indication for a vacant parking in the basement.

A beautiful hotel in the centre of cape town. A fascinating scenery which had a view of all the town and the mountain. The relation between price and room was extraordinary. I strongly recommend it. My room was at 31st Floor the Exclusive Suit

Not really fond of the location, too busy, however it's also convenient to get anywhere, few minutes walk to long street. Rooms are abit outdated but they are comfortable. We got a room with a table mountain view as requested. Loved the breakfast, also beautiful lobby , staff friendly and helpful. Really enjoyed my stay ☺️

The hotel is well placed and reasonable walking distance to lots of things. I was at a conference and it was a quick walk over to the CICC. The concierge was also amazing! He helped me get a PRC test for the flight home (which seems to be fairly rare these days), found the cab driver, got him to wait for me while I got the test, and offered to walk me to a safe bank machine to be sure I was comfortable withdrawing money. All in all wonderful! The breakfast buffet was great with many options, and the dinners were also delicious …mmmm the ox tail… 😋

Great location.. I have been on both sides of the building. One side has a direct view of the mountan, the other the harbour and ocean. Honestly, the harbour side has the better view. The rooms are very clean, but signs of aging infrastructure are present. Have only had breakfast et the Riempies restaurant. And as far as premium hotel breakfasts go, I rate it 3.5 / 5. Completely sufficient for a couple of nights business stay over.
