The rooms are nice and spacious and clean as well. The staff are friendly and helpful, always willing to assist. They have Salaah room on site for convenience. I have read criticisms in some reviews about the buffet and food... I feel this was excellent. The best part is that they are strictly halaal so you can have peace of mind. Would definitely be staying here when I come back to CT.

This is a 3 start hotel at best 1. On arrival, the room we had reserved was given to someone else so had to use another room for night one and then move 2. New room curtains could not close properly as there were runners between them that had not been removed 3. The one bathroom door knob was about to fall off as was the shower door 4. Found a dead cockroach on the floor of the first bathroom when we got there... should have been a sign of things to come 5. The tap in bathroom 2 was about to fall off and the shower door was installed back to front with the towel hanger being inside the shower and gets completely wet 6. No hairdryer in the room, when requested, they came with towels 7. Breakfast was mediocre, not 4 star at all 8. Final straw was the live cockroach we found and had to kill in the bathroom the day before checking out. God knows where else these are.... kitchen??? Only saving grace is the size of the rooms and location of hotel, but needless to say, i will never stay at this hotel again and never recommend it to anyone else.

Great hotel, room was of a decent size and clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the halal buffet breakfast was great.. Close to all the local sights with good links to all public transport and all other amenities. Would recommended highly.

Went to a wedding reception at the Raya Hall and it was great. Menu was fantastic and they always filled up the empty buffet trays and juice. Because it is in town, finding parking is a bit of a schlep

My recent stay at your hotel was nothing short of a disappointment. From the appalling quality of service to the dismal conditions of the room, I regret choosing your establishment. The food, shower, air conditioning - every aspect of my experience was subpar. I hope this feedback prompts a reevaluation of your standards for the sake of future guests.

I travel frequently and thought I would give the Capetonian a try because they cater for Halaal guests, but man, was I disappointed. It's rated 4 stars, but I'm not sure based on what standard. The hotel is so outdated. There is so much wrong, but I'll list a few things. 1. Basic guest reception - some staff need training. Guest should be welcomed definitely, but not as you greet your friends - we're not buddies... 2. Standard room does not even have a two point plug to charge your phone... I had to charge it thru my laptop, for which I had to get under a desk to unplug a lamp, 3. The room was not cleaned properly - the toilet was dirty, 4. TV did not work, 5. Phone in room did not work properly - I had to call reception from my cellphone, 6, breakfast tables so close together - you could be mistaken for being with other people. It's actually awkward. So, I don't think that I'll be back and would not recommend.

The rooms were very run down and in desperate need of a revamp. Rooms were meant to be non smoking but smelled very strongly of stale smoke, cupboard door hinges broken, fridge was dirty and smelled bad, sliding door onto balcony was broken, bathroom very old and run-down, holes in the walls were just covered with tape and painted. Key card would work even after reprogramming. The shelf that the safe was secured onto was loose in the cupboard and could be easily removed along with the safe. Complementary shuttle to waterfront was not available. No swimming pool. On the plus side, the rooms were a good size and the bed was comfortable. There was parking in the street parking area with 24hr security. Staff were friendly. Definitely not a 4-star establishment as advertised.

A beautiful, basic hotel with excellent customer service! Although the building is old and the decor shows its age, the hotel is comfortable and a bargain to stay in. We used a family room and the room is VERY large. Excellent value.

Our welcome was very warm and friendly. Very comfy, clean and very spacious room. Shower was GREAT. Loved the water temperature and pressure. My husband is a smoker so we were in a deluxe room on the 10th floor with a balcony (for smoking). Breakfast and Dinner; a variety of options are available. Not fine dining but more than sufficient. Strictly Halaal. Roxy (the pancake lady) makes lovely light crepes! Staff are all accommodating and try to meet every request. Improvements recommended : If the hotel gets a slight refurbishment where needed, it will be 5 star!

Definitely not up to standard for a 4 star hotel. Extremely small room, not very clean, I saw 2 cockroaches, bad shower. Just a very cheap feel overall. Bed was comfortable but the pillows were terrible. I found hairs in the bathroom and on the headboard which were missed by the cleaning staff. Room and bathroom smelled musty Scuffed door and broken/old fittings. Impractical power points Terrible tv. In this day and age there is no need for lack of choice or fuzzy picture. Breakfast was adequate and the food was quite nice, but again not up to standards for a 4 star hotel. Restaurant staff were pleasant but need training, wait staff came to clear plates before we had even finished eating. Front of house staff were hit and miss. The staff who checked us in were okay, not terribly friendly or helpful at all. The night shift staff were great. An older man and woman were both very friendly and helpful Overall an extremely disappointing stay when one is expecting 4 star comfort and style. And of course when paying 4 star prices

Rooms were lovely and clean, the food was great, staff were helpful, very quiet and peaceful location. When I first booked I was second guessing due to mixed reviews, but I can in all honesty say my stay was great (and my water was hot). Would definitely recommend.

We had a memorable stay, thank you to the team. A special thank you to Celestine for the warm and friendly welcome. She saw to all our needs and made our stay comfortable. We appreciate that she went the extra mile. Also, a huge thank you to the housekeeping staff for efficient service with a smile. It’s a relief to stay at a fully halaal hotel especially when it comes to the food, which is delicious. The breakfast staff delivered great service. Thank you for a wonderful stay and giving us a home away from home.

Dear Mr Dix. I'm staying at the Capetonian. I'd some problems in my room n I talked to the manager on duty. She was so attentive that I thought I was the only client at the hotel. ALL my problems were fixed within no time. I think she's a role model all your employees should emulate. If I'm coming again to Cape Town, I'll surely stay in your hotel n recommend all my friends to do so. Regards. Dawood Auleear. MAURITIUS.

I did not book a room. I booked the buffet dinner for 6 people. I will not be going back there. There were various meals and a varied selection of desserts but the food was tasteless and bland. The fried hake was especially atrocious. The best part of the meal was the bread roll and the prepackaged butter!! The puddings were absolutely mundane and all in all the money spent was a waste!! Capetonian.. disappointment does not even cover how we felt..🥺

The service was fantastic. The location is great. The place needs a complete refurbishment and it will become a top place to stay. The deluxe rooms are quite large. The room was clean and tidy. The safe needs to be replaced as the numbers were ribbed out due to wear and tear

The room was beautiful, it was all we had expected. However the hot water for the shower was a challenge on both days. Only on calling reception were we told that we had to perform a little ritual in order to get the hot water going. We bought some lovely red wine to celebrate our first anniversary but we were told they had no cork screw to open it so that was a bit disappointing too.

My experience at the On the Square Restaurant was terrible. The service was horrible - we had a dinner buffet and asked for a jug of water, which was brought without glasses. When I asked for a glass, only one glass was brought and I was literally told to fetch a glass myself and for the others at my table (there actually weren’t glasses any available). My friend ordered a drink from the a la carte menu and the server handed it to him while we were dishing our food at the buffet table, instead of taking it to our table. I’ve never experienced this type of service before. There was a large group that arrived that hadn’t made a booking. However, it is for the restaurant to accept them or deny them entry. If they couldn’t cope, they shouldn’t have let them in. When we stood up to dish our food, we discovered that our table had disappeared on our return. We were then told to sit on the couches in the foyer instead and we ate our food with our plates on our laps. Given the large amount of people, the food ran out very quickly, especially dessert which could not be replaced fast enough. There were no mugs for tea or coffee. No glasses for drinks that were on offer. On a brighter note, the food and the dessert (that I was able to get) was at least good.

We booked 6 family rooms for the weekend. The service received from checking in until checking out was outstanding. Some minor improvements can be done to the rooms, but we cannot complain about any shortcomings. The buffet breakfast was filling and enjoyable.

Clean. Friendly. And I appreciate that they go out of their way to make us happy clients (instead of satisfied). A satisfied client may come again (or not). But a happy client will definitely return. However one complaint; this Saturday night, we left at 8.30pm and we returned at around 10.30pm and unfortunately there is a siren (alarm which they claim is from another building across the road) which can be heard at the highest floor (for hours). Ntl, I love this place and it's location is valuable, so to all my friends I will share this place is just right!

Cape Town's oldest and most historic hotel. The staff is very welcoming and the manager, Mr Khan, has been very helpful in our 2 week stay. Located in the CBD, you're walking distance from all the shops and just a 5 minute ride to the waterfront.

The Capetonian has a lot of potential if they renovate the rooms. Unfortunately, most of them are really outdated and look like they’re heading into ruin. The saving grace of this place is their impeccable customer service led by Mr. Lex. They all really work hard to make sure you’re comfy. That speaks volumes about the culture he’s helped create. If I’m the owner though, I’m working to get the small things corrected like leaks in the showers and the consistent cleanliness of the rooms. Some days it’s on point and others not so much.

We stayed here for business purposes and it's perfect location next to the CTICC. Rooms were really nice (we booked the renovated superior rooms) and staff extremely helpful and friendly. The breakfast is good, having a variety of options and freshly made eggs/omelettes and pancakes. My only advise would be to have a proper coffee machine with more options to choose from ;) We had a great stay, real value for money!

The Capetonian Hotel in Cape Town truly stands out for its excellent service, and the staff's kindness and helpfulness make it a standout destination. The service provided is undeniably 5-star-worthy, with the staff going above and beyond to ensure guests have a comfortable and enjoyable stay. The breakfast buffet is a highlight, offering a diverse range of options, from beverages and pastries to cheese and hot food. While the establishment is undergoing renovations, the room I stayed in was clean and recently updated. However, it's acknowledged that the room quality might not fully align with a 4-star rating, leaning more towards a 3-star standard. Despite this, the overall experience is elevated by the exceptional service, making it a noteworthy recommendation. The dedication of the staff in making guests feel like a priority adds a personal and welcoming touch to the stay. The ongoing renovations suggest a commitment to improving the overall facilities, promising an even more refined experience in the future. For those prioritizing outstanding service and a warm atmosphere, the Capetonian Hotel remains a solid choice in Cape Town.

I give 4 stars only because we did not go down to the restaurant to experience the food and service there. However, from the second we walked in, we were greeted by friendly and very helpful staff. The hotel was very clean and neat. Sadly we only stayed for one night, but immediately felt relaxed when we entered our room, which had a beautiful view of the harbour. The location was perfect and allowed us to travel to the V&A and back without any hassles. I would definitly visit this hotel in future.

What an unpleasant experience. The service is so bad. The beddings are not changed daily. The shower and basins are not clean. The food menu for breakfast is so limited and repetitive. The staff is sarcastic and rude. Please stay away from this place. Adds are very misleading.

Inexpensive, centrally located, nice lobby and dining room, free car parking out front, safe, nice bathrooms, rooms a tad bit rundown! English buffet breakfast was extensive and very good with a lot of food and choices. Dinner buffet was equally extensive and very good and convenient if you don’t feel like going out to restaurant. Dining room staff was friendly and helpful as was front desk!

Even after not visiting for 3 years, the Capetonian still is of the highest quality. Having spent 4 nights there during April, the staff are what makes this hotel a pleasure to stay at. Whilst the stay was of the highest quality, there are always obviously some small issues (mainly to do with the keycards for the room deactivating), it is the staff that go above and beyond to provide the highest standard of service and care. I must pay particular credit to the 2 male members of the reception team who were consistently pleasant and helpful. My literal only complaint, as a Brit, is that the hotel doesn’t provide English breakfast tea (this is important to us)! Other than that, I would highly recommend this hotel for service, quality, location and especially, it’s staff!

Very disappointed. I have never booked into a place where the rooms were so dirty. Dust and cement pieces laying all over. Why the management decided to arrange maintenance on the floor where guests were staying is beyond me. They decided to paint and bang and who knows what still on the floor i was staying on. The sharp and nauseating smell of the paint was so overwhelming I had to leave the room and go outside. The constant banging and hammering was awful. I am shocked. I booked out a day early because I just couldn't anymore. Never again. I promise you, never again!

Bad from the start. Bad to the end. Room was not clean on arrival. Bathroom was worse. They advertise their expensive suites in pictures online but don't mention that standard suites are a whole lot less attractive or well kept. Yes, they are revamping. But this was just basics they couldn't get right. Got locked out of my room whilst trying to check out. Keys card stopped working. While trying to check out they took 20 minutes to waste time fixing key card instead of just sending physical master key up and fixing later. Heads up as well. It's Halal so sausage was very spicy with Dhanya. Rest of food was good though. Service is not their motto unfortunately so unfortunately I won't go back. Hope they improve for their own sake because you can only make so many people angry before it becomes your defining feature.

we slept in a 2 bedroom "apartment". we loved the location of the place as it was within a walking distances to many amenities. they serve halal food, meaning no bar/ alcohol. the receptionist, the male ones specifically were friendly, I would not say the same about the female one. but we ha a great time and enjoyed the Macon.

This hotel was by far the worst. Rooms had a moldy smell. Cups were dirty. The food section was the worst. Warm yogurt, Their cheese looked weeks old. I’m surprised a health inspector haven’t shut the place down yet. It was just a bad experience for me.

STAY HERE! It was beyond a pleasant experience, their staff and Management team led by David went out of their way and assisted us during a last minute stay after having issues to board our cruise. They made sure we were safe, taking care of, David already had knowledge of our situation when we spoke to him. Their staff is happy, professionalism, kind and respectful, caring beyond words. If they had to walk with me late at night to grab a quick dinner, they offer immediately. Amazing front desk crew. Their buffet in the morning and dinner is amazing and feel free to try their menu, with reasonable prices and generous servings. Their locations can't be more convenient. Rooms are really big and comfortable.. Thank you David and your team for assisting us and for such an amazing experience.

Our room was dirty especially the carpet which was covered in stains and smelt really bad. The light switches were filthy too. The room was very noisy and we battled to sleep. Buffet breakfast was unappetising. The only plus was the staff were very friendly and accommodating.

It certainly was not what it was like in its heyday. At a glance everything looked OK but on closer inspection it was not that good. My friends and I took 4 rooms at the same time. Only 1 hairdryer out of 4 actually worked. Even worse, the lamp and the hairdryer in our room were connected together on 1 plug. The cord for the dryer had been patched with electrical tape that was coming apart. We we arrived , the sanitary bin in the bathroom had not been cleared and we were left to look at the previous occupants disposables. There was no.brush to clean the loo so impossible to keep.clean. the hinges on the bathroom doors pins were almost out of the hinge and on the last refurbished just painted over as is. Needless.to say, it left a lot to be desired. The only sort of saving was the breakfast. Quite a nice variety of fruits and yogurt and cereals. Hot breakfast was ok but no.bacon. hotel is Muslim run so dont expect pork. The gestation and pancakes were a winner. O.lettes eggs and pancakes on demand. Very tasty. It was however cheaper that most other places and I now know why. I probably will rather spend more money and go somewhere else.

Coming back to a room like this after a long day at work just makes your day a whole lot worse. Old, damaged and degraded rooms. Carpeted floor was extremely dirty, furniture falling apart, plug points in useless places, patio looked as if it hadn't been cleaned for over a year, bed sunk it which hurt my back, and showering caused the whole bathroom to flood. Friendly staff at the desk (ikraam and imraan) helped to the best of their abilities. Good men.
