One of the most beautiful little hikes in Cape town. Originally the place where the woodcutters used to live deep in the natural forest hundreds of years ago.

The name doesn't do it justice, this is the Garden of Eden! Most beautiful forest with masses of wild mushroom species, beautiful footpaths under tree canopies, lots of birds singing and a magnificent Poplar Tree Forest currently dropping beautiful yellow leaves on the Forest floor. A must see!!

Not for over 60yo. Beautiful nature walk. Lush tropical greenery and exiting valley topography. A clean stream running through all the way. My best walk for a morning picnic. Bring water.

Lovely place to walk. I hope the rest of the pine trees are removed soon. I saw this little garden for the first time today (Feb 2023)

Good easy going walk in beautiful nature. A bit scary on certain spots with the overgrown trees but serene.

Easy hike, although very quiet which could make it dangerous. Also had baboons waiting on my car once I finished the hike. Very peaceful and scenic hike with lots of shade.

Great for family walks. Not to strenuous for kids under 3. Not many things can trump a morning hike here with a fresh smell of the forest. Pet friendly as well.

Beautiful hiking trails... We went on a winters day so the trail was quieter than usual.

My favourite hike and so close to Hout Bay. When you are in the forest it feels like you are in another world. Really cool to see the different wildlife.

What a beautiful walk! It's a relatively easy hike, just ensure you wear shoes with proper grip as it can get a little slippery in places. Highly recommend!

Relatively easy walk, good for family or groups. Nature in the raw , trees with undergrowth and vines overgrowing it. You really get away from the noise of everyday life and enjoy the stillness of nature

I've been walking here since childhood. It's a true afromontane forest tucked away between fynbos covered mountains, plunging down into a deep valley full of ferns and cycads. Be wary of baboons, slippery slopes, and people who think they're exempt from masks during the pandemic.

Came across 6 baboons today in the forest. Beautiful creatures who let us know they just wanted to continue on the path we were on. Very glad we had the dogs on leads. They were being 'assisted' by the baboon monitors. So cool!

A little gem of indigenous forest, De Hel has loop walks of differing distances that take you down into the ravine, across the stream and back to the parking.

This walk is spectacular This is what Cape Town must have looked like in Simon van der Stel 's time The trees and vegetation and walks over streams and up wooden steps is the best. It is advisable not to do this walk on your own could be security risk because area is isolated

  • 5/5 Adrian W. 3 years ago on Google
Multiple pathways to explore, all relatively short. Really interesting and unexpected scenery. Baboons will probably be around, do not forget you are visiting their world. Please keep your dogs leashed, it's not hard.
