Steep climb in the beginning. Beautiful views of the cable cars. Not an easy route but worth the challenge. If you are afraid of heights, don't do this hike.

Great, easy scramble and climbing trail. Beautiful scenery and stunning views of Cape Town City Bowl, Lionshead and Devil's Peak. Make sure you have no fear of heights and enough drinking water, sun cream and a jacket, as the weather can change in an instant. Enjoy the hike!!!:-)

An awesome hiking trail till TM. A bit tough if you've just started hiking but not as scary as it is made out to be. Tried it a couple of weeks back and apart from two three spots where you need to scramble your way whilst manage your fear of heights, you'll be alright. The only advice is to NOT do this trail alone and have enough water during summer season. Have fun hiking!

A tough hike up Table Mountain with a few tricky sections including staples. Great views are on offer, and a special experience hiking underneath the cable car. The trick is to keep calm and collected, and have someone who has the done it before to guide you. The actual 'window' is a bit off-course. A real bucket-list item!

I love to hike up Kloof Corner, along Table Mountain, and then up India Venster. For those who are afraid they might get lost, take the steps on the right hand side of the cable station kiosks, and simply head up. There are yellow painted footprint signs on the rocks as an indicator that you are on the right path. The iconic spot to take photos where a rock is wedged, is a little way up from the contour path, on your left. India Venster takes you all the way to the top of Table Mountain. It can become quite a climb at points, and I wouldn't do it on my own as I battled to ascend certain portions. If you are afraid of heights, this hike is a big no no. Also, check the weather before hiking up. The mist / clouds can come in very quickly reducing visibility and making the rocks quite slippery. Instagram: photography_by_leeanne

India Venster is a tough hike, but it is worth the effort if you are not afraid of heights and have some hiking/climbing experience. You will be rewarded with breathtaking views during the hike up to the top of Table Mountain. I made it on Valentine’s Day 2023! Not recommend to take this trail down since it will be more difficult and dangerous.

Always great fun going here, bought a voucher for sunset and really enjoyed it even though it was a bit windy...Staff is friendly but a bit of overcharge for taking a photo which will set you back R300.00 .

It,s very dangerous trail.Don,t keep this way if you haven,t enough experience în climbing. It,s near 90 degrees up and it, no choice to came back, only one way. Only when it,s perfect weather can be used!

This trail has some of the most incredible views I’ve seen on a hike! I would highly recommend it as the best trail up table mountain. It is quite physical, it’s not a particularly long hike in terms of distance, but it does get quite technical and people not able to do a little bit of climbing (handle to handle and chains at times) will struggle. A benefit of this route is ending at the cable car which one can use to get down!

Warning: Not for anyone who can’t scramble over rocks or isn’t comfortable with “don’t slip here” hiking trails. Going up trail only - not safe for going down. I loved this trail, it was a fun adventure although a bit sketchy. There are parts where you definitely can’t mess up. However, there was a couple that had followed us up the trail who got stuck halfway up the scramble and freaked out screaming for help. My partner and I spent the next hour helping them back down - they were both gym people but clearly had zero outdoors experience. If you’re not sure if this hike is for you, then it’s not for you! If you like scrambling and climbing, it’ll be no problem. We proceeded to finish the hike in high winds which was exhilarating with breathtaking views. We took the easy/tourist trail back down. Minus 1 star as this route could use some more safety rope and chains on the upper half.

Nice place to have amazing view over the city. When plan your visit, take a look to the weather and try to book a clean day.

India Venster is one of the toughest hikes on Table Mountain. Don't be shy though, it is worth the experience and effort. Please make sure you have a level of fitness before attempting this hike. It is an uphill battle from the start. It includes scrambling, which makes it so much more enjoyable. As long as the weather is clear, you will enjoy the most breathtaking views. Not to mention, the window itself. Try it! 4 hours is the total time it takes if you descend via Platterklip.

Amazing hike, a bit technical because of the chains and staples but not too nerve wrecking. The views are phenomenal!

the views from the top of the table mountain are astonishing and well worth the trip. The eco system on top is astonishing , sunbirds, heathers etc. If you are pushed for time and not running on a budget the fast track tickets take you straight to the front of the line and can save you a 60-90 min wait.

My wife and I went in winter, which may be ill advised. Luckily there hadn’t been too much rain the days preceding and there were only a few areas that were slippery. My wife and I are very active and almost always complete trails and hikes in less than half the recommended/advertised time, but this one took a bit longer than 1.5 hours up. We were moving pretty fast and it took us almost 2.5 hours. We decided to take the gondola down. Some areas of the hike up are precarious, so I wouldn’t recommend if you have limited hiking and climbing experience. I also wouldn’t recommend climbing down, as there are some areas were descending would be very difficult to do safely. It was an awesome experience. Sure, you can pay for the gondola ride up and get the same views, but this climb makes you earn the breathtaking scenery.

Really fun climb. But make no mistake, not an easy hike for a beginner. Climb up, take cable car back down.

It was our first time and took 5 hours. Loved it, but do not attemp if you are unfit or scared of heights. Some grab chains are missing and can be very dangerous.

I was so terrified when my boyfriend suggested we did this hike and I read the reviews. Now I’m so glad I did it!!! Absolutely amazing! Some harder bits where you need to rock climb but as long as you have a decent level of fitness and strength (I have very minimal rock climbing exp) you will be fine! No vertical rock faces or anything, and the staples are easy to use! A must do if you love a bit of adventure!

You HAVE to do this hike if you're in Cape Town and love to hike! It's a great hike to climb Table Mountain, nothing too challenging but also not for the ultimate beginners. If you do it a moderate speed, without breaks, you will be on the top of Table Mountain within 1.5 hours. On your way, you will certainly come across great vegetation, the 'locals' (Dassie), but above all amazing views! We left early in the morning around 06.30am (due to the curfew related to COVID19) and took it easy with a picnic halfway. We were on the top around 08.30am, where you are able to either hike down again or buy a single ticket for the cable car (which brings you down in less than 2 minutes while rotating for great views). This hike does make it feel rewarding once you're on the top!! Definitely recommended and I'll do it again next time I'm in Cape Town!

Did India Venster route up to the shelf. Beautiful but tough hike.

  • 4/5 Hoosain N. 3 years ago on Google
A good moderate hike - park your car at Kloof corner parking area and do the walk passing just above the lower cableway station with the cablecar passing overhead. The relatively straight and easy section ends when it meets Platteklip and come down to the road for an easy walk back to your car.
