First time visit after a recommendation from family. The kudu medallions were lovely with the peppercorn sauce (arrived cooler than expected though). The roasted vegetables were great (especially potatoes). My highlight was the peppermint terrarium! So good and delicate and a feast for the eyes. Location was great, and easy to find with good parking. My cousin and I enjoyed it!

The Wild Fig Restaurant is a fully licensed Restaurant and Bar situated on the same premises as the Protea hotel in Observatory and on a portion of the historic Valkenburg Estate. The bar of the restaurant is situated in the original barn which is a National Monument and serves different beverages to they customers. The restaurant also have a beautiful outdoor seating areas as well as private dining areas with a very relax atmosphere. The restaurant also cater for all manner of events such as functions, conference, weddings, cocktail functions, breakfasts and celebrations. Staff are friendly and very helpful. The menu cater for different cuisines for all customers. Different wines can be enjoyed with the food as well as different desserts. The restaurant are a walking distance for travellers staying at the Protea hotel.

Waitress Sophia, great service , attention to detail, however the beer battered Hake was a bit disappointing, not crispy as it should be and the Drinks, I know what a double shot shot taste, look like , the Jameson double and Lime tasted a bit watered down.....other than that... Service 5/5 Presentation 4/5 Food 3/5 Drinks 3/5

Lovely setting, nice food, lamb ragout was very tasty but the 3 or 4 small bones spoiled it a bit, almost broke a tooth, still a great place with a nice selection of dishes and friendly staff, worth a visit. JULY2023: OK, I've added a 4th star, was there this evening, and both my starter (baked camembert) and my main (butter chicken curry) were great. Curry was mild and tasty and the basmati rice was excellent! Service was great too!

Really mixed feelings about this place. We enjoyed the food, it was really tasty but our overall experience was marred by the atmosphere. I don’t know if the fireplace was malfunctioning or something but the whole indoor seating area reeked of and was filled with wood-fired smoke. Everyone in our party came out smelling like they were at a braai. Not great. The service was okay but slower than expected given that there weren’t many patrons there at the time. Overall, below average for the prices. I expect this would be better to visit in the warmer months when the outdoor seating is more appealing.

Sadly this place has gone backwards since I last visited 4 years ago. The attention to detail is lacking in everything. From the chipped side plates to the waiter that couldn't recommend a wine or keep our glasses topped. The food was good but everything that came out of the kitchen had a large sprig of parsley rather uninventively placed on top. It used to be a hidden gem but now it just feels like a tired place that will likely close down soon.

It has a lovely relaxed atmosphere especially for the summer months and the vibe is very easy. This is not a place you come to to rush - it facilitates a nice long slow lunch and chats with friends. There's outdoor and indoor seating, access for wheelchair users, and neat and clean bathrooms. It's not fine dining, but the rustic envionrment is well-hidden away and they seem to serve a regular crowd. Food is good and well-prepared, though some might find the speed of service a bit lacking. Drink selection cold be improved, but overall, nothing that harms the experience.

Had a lovely family gathering. Waiter looked after our table really well. Food service was good in terms of timing and quality of meals presented. Portions were brilliant.

A hidden diamond in the middle of Cape Town, really good restaurant with a well choice of wines and amazing food! Marriott Crystal Tower was sold out and randomly they send me to the Marriott Protea Mowbray, middle of nowhere, but good restaurant!

Had a great time celebrating a friends belated birthday. Happy hour from 5 to 7. Meal of Karoo lamb ragout was better than expected. Really delicious. More than enough sauce in the dish, could have had a little bit more chunkier pieces of meat.

Lovely solo dinner at The Wild Fig mid week. Relaxed atmosphere, fire in the grate to keep the cold away and gentle soulful music by candlelight. Quite lovely. Food and wine very enjoyable!

Their outdoor sitting is the best for a group. Restaurant perfect for the night out and day sittings.. I loved it

Nice atmosphere for a summer afternoon if you want somewhere with outdoor seating. Smoker-friendly. Opted for the fish and chips and it did not dissappoint, albeit heftier prices than a typical lunch spot. Brilliant service, will be happy to go back

Great quality and delicious food with a very reasonable price. Attentive waiter and friendly staff. The cosy fireplace makes this spot ideal for winter dates. We had the ratatouille and lamb ragout and it was out of this world. Very impressed. Decor could do with a bit of an upgrade - posters in the bathroom still referencing the drought. Other than that, can’t fault them.

I ordered the crispy duck while my friend had the lamb shank. On the day, my duck was overcooked, and the manager offered any other dish on the menu. I then also opted for the lamb shank, which was absolutely delicious. The service was really outstanding. When the bill arrived, management did not charge me for my lamb shank, which was most thoughtful and welcome. I'd highly recommend The Wild Fig and would certainly return there.

lovely venue, peaceful and tranquil, with a very good selection on the new menu. I inadvertently left my shoulder bag on the chair when we left and retrieved it thanks to management the next day. Sadly an item had been removed. none the less the food is superb. Highly recommended.

A favourite and unusual place for late afternoon sundowners. Despite being in the city, it feels like one is at a cape wine farm. The view of Devil's Peak is superb as the sun sets over the also visible Lion's Head.

We popped into this place yesterday for a quick lunch. I had be recommended it by friends as was close by. It certainly didn’t disappoint. Charles our waiter was eloquent and smart. He put us next to the fire as it was cold and wet outside, then tempted us with the specials. We both went for the bangers and mash which were served quickly and were superb. Great mash and gravy. Will definitely return to try more on the menu if we are in the vicinity.

I was disappointed. For upmarket prices I expected upmarket food and good service. The Wild Fig offers neither. The Butter Chicken I had was, honestly, the worst I've ever had. Small portion, and tasteless. The service wasn't much better. There were three servers, and every one of them ignored me.

Place is quiet and fairly romantic. Starter was really good. The food was the really fresh. Had the chefs special fish and it was bland. Service was pretty good until the waiter asked me out on a date. Legit wanted my tip back. I’d probably go back but not alone

First time we've been back to our favourite restaurant since Covid struck. Unfortunately things weren't all that great and 4 of us felt that it had lost its upmarket status and had simply become a restaurant with expensive food. My salmon cakes were watery, the duck breast was dry. The Risotto and hake were great. Service was very slow. We were never asked if we needed anything once our meals had arrived. We had to call the waiter every time we wanted something. He was super friendly and helpful once we flagged him down. On the one side we had loud jazz music playing from the hotel and, on the other side, a pub singer entertaining the bar crowd. Lovely setting for a Saturday afternoon pub lunch but definitely not for patrons who want an upmarket experience which the Fig has always been known for.

This is a Cape Town classic. Hearty, good food, an interesting old building..even a real fig tree. Great place to get away for a comfortable lunch. They also have good party facilities. I have had a kid's party here and numerous UCT staff parties.

First time going to the Wild Fig and I loved it. It's versatile and intimate but spacious. Need to try their lamb shank before rating it a 5. I loved their butter chicken and the frozen margarita. Money's worth and will definitely be going back.
