Popped in for Sunday lunch at this popular Newlands pub 'n grill. Vibey atmosphere with good food. Loved the crumbed mushrooms, grilled calamari and potato skins with creme fraiche. Hubby enjoyed his chicken schnitzel with mushroom sauce. A pity that our waiter didn't so much as crack a smile the entire time we were there. It seemed he would rather be doing anything else but serve us, making us feel rather unwelcome. Could've been having an off day, but it's still unacceptable to be so unwelcoming. But overall, we enjoyed our experience and will return for the good food.

Comfort Food 101!! Great array of dishes with so many that could just hit the spot. Pub dishes but without the excessive oil. With additional healthy options there's something for everyone. Try the drinks menu, plus the team is super helpful when asking for special drinks. Multiple areas to sit, from comfy inside seating to chilled sunny outside areas.

Adorable rustic, nautical themed restaurant right in the hub of scenic Newlands. Nice atmosphere, seating outside for summer nights or in sit inside and warm yourself by the fireplace. Staff was great, helpful 👍and the manager was working the floor with the staff. The food was fresh, and delicious touches of the chef 👨‍🍳 could be seen by food. Restaurants run like a well maintained ship 😊 Food was well priced. Burgers, hake, steak, pastas, steamed veggies, butternut/creamed spinach, salad, and stir fry are recommended. Vegetarian options are also a choice on some menu items. Can't wait to go back.

Sandy, a good friend and I went to Barristers for Christmas lunch. On arrival we were given a complimentary glass of Champagne. Roy, the Manager was superb. Our waiter was also very good. The food was excellent. The atmosphere was very pleasant indeed. Very grateful to all the staff that worked on that day.

Popular restaurant with many seating areas, some of which spill outside onto roadside the deck. Can get extremely busy with tables located quite close yo each other, so prepare for a loud environment with ordinary food. Prices are very reasonable, especially on specials night.

Lovely ambiance. Great specials from 11am-6pm. The pecan nut fudge dessert was the highlight of my evening.

Amazing vibe and good food. You even get a blanket when it's a bit chilly outside. Waiters were very friendly and helpful and the place was nice and clean. Will definitely be going back.

Barristers has stood the test of time and is famous for their steaks and pub lunches. Generally you can't go wrong but I was really disappointed with their pork ribs. Somehow soft yet over cooked at the same time. The basting sauce was nasty and overly vinegary. Will stick to the trusted steaks next time

We went to this place in the afternoon and I loved it. The service is really nice and we were taken into the area where it was warmer due to winter cold afternoon. The food was amazing. I had a calamari basket (which comes with fries) and fish you can substitute with rice or vegetables. My friends dish was tasty. I even forgot to take photos for the first dish until I had devoured the whole plate or we nearly done🤦🏿‍♂️. They are also heavy on wines but I settled for tea instead. Give it a try!

Honest pub / steakhouse food, great drinks selection, good service - all at reasonable prices. The verandah is where the coveted seats are but we prefer a booth inside, away from sport on the tv’s and the passing parade.

Was there about 2 months ago to meet with family (sorry for late review). 5 out of 6 people ordered burgers. Both the chicken and beef pieces/patties were very dry, with the toppings not making up for that. Unripe, hard camembert used. The patties seemed like they were precooked and heated up for serving. Very, very disappointed with the quality, especially when each burger costs around R140. Almost any other place that charges that much for a burger will serve you something that you will enjoy so much more. Dessert was average. All just very plain. Service was fine. Slow, but it was busy, so understandable. Saving grace, and the reason for the second star is that one person ordered a steak and it was cooked very well and to order (unlike the burgers). I had a small piece and it was delicious. Overall very disappointing experience from a renowned spot.

I had the beef fillet, perfectly cooked, medium rare. Great service, and the atmosphere was nice.

Edited with a photo of the phenomenal and available pie from Forries an actual 5 star pub just up the road - Been here hundreds of times often on Fridays - sit down after driving to get a pie. Arrive at 12 to an empty restaurant and told sorry all reserved. Allowing people to call in ahead to reserve meals is ridiculous and rudely telling regulars they can’t have while they are literally sitting there is pathetic. This was never the case when I had offices above this restaurant. I’ll shift my business to Forries then - not returning and advising all to skip as well. Small minded network only pub with mediocre service.

Barristers hits the mark for a typical pub like type " British" restaurant. They offer an extensive menu which is bound to please any pallet. Don't expect too much from the food as it is "plain fare", but it's executed well, tasty and well priced. The service is good with both waiters and manager attentive and enthusiastic. If you are wanting to just chill ln the balcony, watch sports in the pub or have more of an intimate dining experience, Barristers does it all. Definitely recommended if you are in the Newlands village.

The meal overall was good. The staff were busy but attentive at the right times. The one item we ordered was not accurately described on the menu and let to a surprise when it arrived. I think it was the sirloin steak with a red wine onion and something sauce. The veg was good. The pepper sauce could have been a bit creamier and stronger.
