An amazingly beautiful setting for any occasion. It’s difficult to comprehend how much time, effort and money goes into crafting this tranquility in nature. For children the gardens are a magical place of giant trees that provide homes to squirrels, butterflies, fairies and gnomes who live amongst the gnarled 300-year-old roots. The wine tasting experiences are an adventure. That said I’m no wine connoisseur, so I won’t spout forth about how fruitiness compliments the hints of tannin from the 100-year-old oak barrels. I will say that there are a few wines you are going to love. Vergelegen is a step into freedom, nature and wonderful meals. My only grumble comes from the one or two misguided souls who take more pleasure drawing attention to themselves by whining out loud about things their little minds aren’t really able to comprehend. Of course it gets busy at peak times – so, if crowds aren’t your thing choose times in-between holidays and the festive season. Yes, there’s always room for a little improvement, but have a little consideration for the staff who answer to your beck and call – they get it right almost 100% of the time. And about that nominal gate fee – the gardens, the meals, the hospitality and the wines are all better for it.

One of our best experiences. Beautiful mountain views, stunning gardens and a playground area for the little ones. We were seated near the playground. Enjoyed delicious pizzas at The Stable restaurant whilst keeping an eye on the kids. The butternut and beetroot salad was a generous portion of fresh vegetables. Very pretty cheesecake - I didn't have any - the kids enjoyed it. We went for a lovely walk around the estate Staff are super friendly. What a perfect venue. Will book the safari ride next time.

Our day started of at the Wine Tasting Centre when a bubbly young lady checked us in for the Environmental Tour. The tour is highly recommended! The quaggas, eland and bontebok were all on and next to the road. The day ended at The Stables restaurant which is also very highly recommended. Thank you to the lovely staff members (Gladys, Arnoux, Nicole and the bubbly lady) who contributed to our amazing day. We'll be back again soon!

(Translated by Google) A fantastically beautiful park with a very good restaurant. The picnic is a little insider tip. Make a reservation in advance as it is very popular among connoisseurs. The prices are fair and the portions are large. You can also take a stroll between the courses. Special praise to the extremely hard-working staff. Thank you for the very nice time with you!

Really great place to enjoy a delicious picnic and great wine in a forest. The picnic is more than enough food, with delicious breads, cheeses, meats, and main dishes. Excellent hostess and waiters add to the great experience. We would definitely return.

The sheer beauty and elegance of this place is very hard to describe in words. This must be experienced in person to witness the kind of beauty pictures cannot portray. From the world's oldest camphor tree to the perfectly preserved historic dutch building and library. The gardens are straight from fairytale books. Restaurants and wine testing in fresh air with flower fragrance is the stuff of dreams.

This is one of the must see places in the Western Cape. Immaculate gardens, beautiful homesteads, history vibrantly alive. No wine tasting for us, we opted to enjoy high tea. Mmm, delicious and impressively presented.

Went for the picnic experience at Vergelegen and it did not disappoint. The beautiful gardens are a must see and having a picnic lunch in between the trees was stunning. The food was delicious and quite plentiful. By the time we were done...we felt stuffed. It was a little hot and humid, but that's summer for you. Would be a great experience for Birthday parties. I highly recommend this place. Thanks for the great day.

Stables restaurant officially has the worst coffee in SA (and second worse coffee I've ever tasted). It's tastes like old 'koffie huis' instant coffee, burnt in an oven before mixing it with dam water and serving. We tried it twice on different days as we thought the 1st time was a mistake, but no... They have really good burgers though... but don't expect good service from the waiters, they're not trained or anything... but you just fix that by not tipping. Edit: they are undernew management now, coffee really good, portions are decent. Would definitely visit again. Waitress was excellent, wish I remembered her name.

(Translated by Google) The property of this wine estate is a dream! We didn't find the tasting that special compared to other estates. But the picnic is really recommended! Great food and great wine right in the nature under old trees. The service is also very nice and attentive.

I've done a Vergelegen wine tasting before, but today was my first visit to the Stables Restaurant. We really enjoyed it. It is very kiddie friendly with an amazing play park and a warm atmosphere. The kids went to play outside while we enjoyed some excellent wine and food. Our waiter was also very friendly and professional. What a great all-round experience... we'll definitely be back to experience it in summer.

We hosted my daughter's baby shower picnic in the Camphor Forest. The reception and preparation that Vergelegen welcomed us with, was exceptional and commendable. From when we arrived we only received the best service from Stephanie, the manageress and Tyler, the waiter. So was everything we experienced and enjoyed there. The picnic food was gourmet, the service impeccable, the setting magical! I cannot recommend this highly enough. Thank you Vegelegen and staff, for making this event extraordinary and a day to remember!

Oh my goodness Not to be missed when visiting Cape Town and apart from some of the oldest Camphor trees in the world the Rose Garden, the seasonal Cosmos and Sunflowers now out and blooming in profusion, the museum the Spanish gate in the Library and the fabulous restraurants are of the best in the Cape. You simply cannot have never visited Cape Town if you do not allocate a day to this iconic Winery steeped in history.

We visited the Estate in Somerset West for the first time. Entry fee is R10pp currently. Our main purpose was to see the world renowned camellias, which are in full bloom at the moment. Over 1000 shrubs. These gardens are only 1 of 2 internationally recognised camellia gardens. The estate has numerous other gardens which bloom at different times of the year. There is also wine tasting and a few restaurants on site as well as a kids play area. This place has a lot of history of over 300yrs when Simon Van Der Stel was here. Many famous people have visited including Nelson Mandela , Bill Clinton , The Queen. It is really a beautiful estate where some antelope are also seen at times

One of the most beautiful gardens in the greater Cape Town region. Comprises of 18 unique gardens of varying sizes and layouts with plenty of shade and benches to relax on. It's relatively large so it appears quiet even on busy days. Nice play area for children and some interesting history to be found regarding slavery. The library now serves as a museum and is worth visiting. Entrance fee is only R10/adult.

Such a beautiful place to spend with friends and family. They have picnic areas. They have wine tasting. The grounds are quite big and there are restaurants to sit down and dine at. The historic background is interesting and you can learn about it on site too.

Always a great place to visit. Today we walked the gardens, looked at the flowers and then enjoyed a divine chocolate milkshake whilst basking in the sun and enjoying the mountains that stand as sentinels around the estate. Gorgeous Spring day in a gorgeous place! And entry is only R 10 per person and R 5 for pensioners. Friendly staff. If you have children there is a lovely playground area too.

Gorgeous gardens with meandering paths. R10 entry for an adult, but totally worth it. Forestry feels, flower feels, perfect for any photo opportunity as its family friendly, just no animals unfortunately. Stables Restaurant is decently priced and a lovely precursor to a long walk. I recommend sunscreen and a hat with comfy, open shoes.

One of the most beautiful wine estate I have been for a very long time. I try new wine farms almost every weekend but Vergelegen is something out of this world. They have a huge aesthetically pleasing and relaxing gardens. Just taking a walk in their garden and among those huge beautiful trees and flowers is amazing. Not only a wine farm but a botanical experience at the same time. Burst of flavor cheese board, beautiful wines and a nice area for kids to keep them busy while mommy and daddy enjoy some of the beautiful wine while immersed in the beautiful surroundings. Put this wine estate first on your list of wine farms to visit. My next visit will be to their restaurant.

The Vergelegen Wine Estate is probably the most attractive estate of its kind in South Africa. It's got everything. Beautiful grounds, well tended gardens, a great natural setup, wine tasting, several restaurants, history, historical buildings. All these are well taken care of and easily accessible. I would suggest that you come and spend the day and, if a picnic is something that you might consider doing, you can get one catered on the beautiful grounds of the estate.

We enjoyed a fabulous lunch at the Stables restaurant today. The meal was excellent, service exceptional and of course the wines were delicious. The gardens were so well maintained and the fragrance sublime. We will be back to try one of their other restaurants. I requested permission from our excellent server to post the attached picture.

The venue itself is absolutely breathtaking. I was a bit disappointed with the food I ordered. The prices are very high and you would expect fantastic food but first my food came warm and with no taste at all. I would go back to do a picnic or to take in the history.

Nothing short of amazing. No doubt one of the best Wine Farms in the country. Steeped in history, Vergelegen gardens and historical monuments are extremely well cared for. Tours are available and picnics in the gardens are a real treat(be sure to book). Wine tasting is also very reasonably priced and wines on offer are top notch. The restaurant is well run, service is good and prices are decent. Will definitely be back.

They have beautiful gardens that you can take a stroll in and the kids have a play area as well where they can bring plastic motorbikes to ride. And don't forget the beautiful view to go with it all

Exceptional service starting with the gentleman at the main gate who took his own temperature to ensure that I was comfortable that he was not symptomatic . And it just got better. My planned 30 min stay for a cup of coffee and wine purchase turned into a 3 hour photo safari...and I could have stayed longer! I cannot recommend this estate enough. Every staff member I encountered was exceptional at what they do. Always special to visit here. A sanctuary for the soul. Definitely worth a visit.

No better place than #Stables or #Camphors to wind down and enjoy award-winning #Vergelegen wines and delicious food during the summer evenings ahead. We look forward to welcoming

I take my daughter, get a coffee and something to eat as a takeaway, and wesit on the big lawn. One hour there feels like a week holiday. It's so beautiful and peaceful during the week.

In my view probably the most picturesque venue of any restuarant in Cape Town. We really enjoyed the food but the service, whilst reasonable didn't match. Manageable though. We'd always recommend this restuarant to visitors but be sure to book well ahead of time and take the extra time to enjoy the beautiful gardens, historic buildings and Camphor trees.

We paid an entrance fee and went to go sit on the main lawn with blankets. The new CEO saw us and decided he didn't want us doing that. And instead of coming to ask us himself, sent one of the staff members ( a very kind and understanding gentleman ) to ask us not to picnic on the main lawn. We traveled an hour to get to that wine farm, and has left a "bad taste in my mouth". I, for one, will NOT be buying Vergelegen Wines ever again or paying to visit that wine farm.
