This
was
a
superb
food
tour!
Rupesh
guided
us
through
a
fascinating
day,
full
of
laughter,
delicious
small
bites
from
restaurants
and
food
vendors,
all
the
while
sneaking
in
a
comprehensive
introduction
to
Cape
Town
and
it’s
history.
I
consider
Cape
Town
my
second
home,
and
simply
can’t
believe
I
had
never
sampled
the
delights
of
a
Koesister,
a
sweet
and
aromatic
doughnut
type
confection,
related,
but
far
more
exotic
than
the
better
known
koeksister.
We
visited
a
building
which
I
have
seen
many
times,
but
had
no
idea
was
built
as
a
mansion
by
a
wealthy
slave
trader,
nor
that
housed
within
its
courtyard
is
the
oldest
grape
vine
on
the
continent,
which
continues
to
flourish.
We
ate
an
‘off
the
menu’
malay
curry
out
of
bone
china
teacups
at
the
smallest
coffee
shop
in
Cape
Town,
and
learned
from
the
chef
how
locals
use
our
native
fynbos
herbs
as
aromatics
and
flavour
enhancers,
another
thing
I’ve
never
done.
We
followed
Rupesh
through
the
picturesque
little
streets
of
the
Bo
Kaap,
where
he
made
sure
we
got
the
best
photo
ops,
into
a
visually
stunning
contemporary
art
gallery
where
we
ate
some
more.
Later
he
took
us
onto
a
rooftop
somewhere
near
Bree
street
with
best
view
of
the
city,
and
made
a
stop
at
the
celebrated
Jason
Bakery
for
pastéis
de
nata,
something
I
had
never
ordered
there,
but
have
already
returned
for.
I
will
take
this
tour
again,
it’s
a
wonderful
way
to
get
a
feel
for
the
city.
Rupesh
is
an
extremely
engaged
guide,
from
the
moment
you
meet
him
you
feel
looked
after,
and
ready
to
follow
and
learn,
and
of
course
to
eat
very,
very
well.
