Very nice dam for walking. Took my son fishing here a few times. Fishing allows from 1 October to 30 April. Lots of people walking. Dog-friendly as well. No public restrooms available. Beautiful area for a picnic.

For the only local lake in this area that the Cape Town City allows fishing the state of this water and the surrounding water’s edges is absolutely dismal to say the least. The lake is almost totally overgrown with water grass and algae plus basically the entire water’s edge has a thick layer of reed growing all the way around it making it impossible to fish in the demarcated area as stipulated on the board. It makes no sense to have the other local lakes like Vygeboom and Sonstraal being in perfect condition and maintained while not allowing any legal fishing to take place there and then to totally disregard this lake which could be and was most probably a great venue in the past. There is also not a lot of bird life so this place will just suit someone who wants to go for a walk or jog on the pathway around it.

A really good place to experience a bit of nature without going into the bush. A well maintained walkway all around the dam provides a relaxing walk area or if you prefer jogging a few laps will have you refreshed in no time at all.

Very quiet and peaceful place, unfortunately not well maintained and heavely overgrowth. Luckily I found a spot to land some small black bass, not much to brag about πŸ˜‰ PLEASE CAPE NATURE, YOU CAN DO BETTER. Was there again this weekend 8-9 Oct 2022, no changes πŸ˜” Conditions are very bad if not "poor" Someone please help with a proper bass fishing spot 🀫

Lovely little dam and park area very popular with local fishermen. The water appeared very healthy and there were plenty of birds on the water. Locals are perhaps not as friendly - especially when compared to the environment of Majik Forest up the road from this venue. There are marked pathways all around the dam so it's ideal for wheelchair users to navigate the area. Not much shaded areas, but there is a play area for kids and the security patrols add a degree of safety.

Arrived at the dam 5 o'clock spent the whole day fishing even though the reeds were casting a shadow over me sunburn was the outcome. Caught a Carp fish. Its quite big. Locals seem to be very friendly. A shopping centre forms part of the border so doing your groceries while fishing day well spent also found some verkleurmannetjies in the Bush as well ... Use Bread and soft Corn mushed together. As Bait

Lovely day out at the Doordekraal dam. One wouldn't think πŸ€” it is still Lockdown πŸ”’ as this is the busiest I have ever seen the dam... Loads of lovely sites ducks πŸ¦† and coots in the water πŸ’¦ N Guinea fowls running πŸƒ about like crazy πŸ€ͺ a shame the fishing 🎣 wasn't great today but better luck 🀞🏽 next time πŸ€.... Will definitely visit again

Perfect jogging, walking, dogwalking, fishing spot. Used to be very safe with cale nature patrolling the area. Has become a bit more unsafe over the past year or two. But still safe during daytime, just be cautious

Awesome view especially around sunset you can see sunlight on the water, dedicated runners, picnickers, the gorgeous wildlife and nature and happy fishermen all enjoying themselves

Really great place for a walk. You're also allowed to fish if you have the correct permits but unfortunately the reeds are so bad you struggle to even reach the water.

πŸ‘πŸ‘ We absolutely love our morning walks here (especially in our pj's, takeaway coffee in hand). The unobstructed natural surroundings are amazing! I would have to say that winter is our favourite time to wonder through the fresh, damp vegetation catching the occasional glimpse of some fungi nestled amo...

πŸ‘ We take our dogs there every alternate day. Massive park, stretches from behind cobble walk to almost stodels and you can go under the R300 bridge to another park. Not the safest park, would not recommend going on your own. Park was not maintained properly previously, however lately there has been a...
