Please avoid ! Don’t waste money there’s a lot of nice places in Cardiff to eat . Disappointed is an understatement. We booked before a show , the poor waitress rushed us the cocktails were unavailable then the mains we chose were unavailable. The starters nachos with pulled pork was more like a tin of mince beef pie filling on top . The lamb shank was undercooked after I asked for it well done , it obv went back in the microwave but was still awful . The waitress could tell and took it if the bill for us but it still was a waste of £35 . Wish I’d gone to Greggs and had a pasty . The picture is what we left of our food .

We recently visited Henry's in Cardiff on Monday 7th March. We had been several times before and thought we would go and have a meal before going out in the evening. Their were two staff serving. The gentleman was very polite and helpful but the lady was not. We ordered our food and after 25 minutes their was no sign of it. I got up and asked the lady how much longer the food would be and she said it is ready now. She went and collected the meals and brought them to our table. As she put the meals on the table she basically lectured me the meals took longer because I had asked for my chicken and bacon to be cooked well done. But ironically they weren't.They were the same as last time. Also a sauce that was supposed to be with my wife's meal wasn't. The restaurant was very quiet with only a few people in. She spent a lot of time talking to the two men three metres from us who were very loud. She was very put out when I asked about meals. Service prior to this visit has always been good. Unfortunately this time the lady did not deliver acceptable service.

Went for breakfast. It was quiet so you could enjoy conversation. It was cheap but good quality food. They should clean the chairs though as they were full of white stains. The waitress was attentive and efficient.

We arrived before 6pm for a pre theatre meal. Ordered at 6.15pm. NO food by 7pm! We left. Others waited over an hour for their meals. Service was really slow at the bar also. I was informed by the poor waitress that only 2 cooks on duty. Get your act together Henry's. Appalled.

Manager and bouncer seriously need to gain some people skills and have some respect for the way they speak and treat their customers, returning customers! I had booked a table for me and my husband to watch the Lions rugby game, table was booked for 16:45. At no point of the booking or arriving at the pub was we made aware we had to vacate the table by 18:45. After being allowed to order and pay for more drinks, and those drinks being brought to our table, the manager came across to advise us “we had to vacate the table in 10 mins.” The game of rugby had run over, granted this was no ones fault, how ever the series is once every four years!! I asked the “manager” politely if we could be placed somewhere else just to watch the remainder of the game and to be able to drink our drinks that they had no problem taking my money for. In this time of the “manager” allegedly checking, the bouncer abruptly approached our table telling us to leave, disgraceful attitude! There was approximately half a dozen empty tables behind us, the group of men sat aside us even offered us to sit with them as there was empty seats (wouldn’t have been breaking the rule of 6 to a table.) According to the rude bouncer this wasn’t an option, in his words “you can’t sit at another table you have to leave!” If we was drunk and disorderly then I would’ve be writing this review. We was there purely like the majority of other customers to watch the Lions game. There was people there before us, also the same people there after us! We was treated like criminals, and the whole situation made us feel very embarrassed. We will not be returning to Henry’s again, and I will ensure friends and family of mine who are also returning customers won’t either!! Forced to leave 1 star to be able to leave the review!!

Pretty shocking Christmas dinner here. Service is incredibly slow too. Serving up what looks like gammon and claiming it is pork belly. Sent out one of the wrong starters. Was only one brussel sprout on one of the plates - boiled half to death though instead of roasted. Advert shows broccoli, but served stems. Cheese plate (not board) was tasty though. Poor show to be honest. Speed of Service: 🌟 🌟 Quality: 🌟 🌟 Cost: 🌟 🌟 🌟

Booked for Sunday lunch and ordered the trio of meats each with a 'giant pig in blanket' to see what it was like. Prior to this, we had to find a member of staff to be seated. The first issue was minor. We asked for our soft drinks with no ice, they had ice. The food didn't redeem the situation. Parsnip, carrot and broccoli were not cooked. The aforementioned giant pig in blanket was laughable. A small normal sausage with some loose bacon around it. The server very quickly said he was removing one meal from the bill. In hindsight, I'm not sure we should have paid as much as we did. Very disappointed in the whole experience.

Server was moody, not made to feel welcome. No one doing front of house to guide people to tables or assist with queries. Food taken an hour to come out…. Definitely not somewhere to go on a lunch break….. will consider going again in the future but this experience is not great.

Poor service received today, 15 May 2022. Slow service, no type of steak at 3pm in the afternoon, incorrect menus - one said j20 option another didn’t and when questioned we were told they have never sold J20? Training needs to be updated to their staff or the old menus if so need to be removed; the food came and was incorrect, the burger had slices of cheese but it was not proper cheese (the plastic cheese you get from supermarkets), no onions and we had ordered them. You couldn’t open the top of the of bun to put any sauce in as the cheese was all stuck to the top of the bun. Upon eating the chicken was black /grey in one place and with avian flu about I said to my son not to eat it. We asked for a refund at least half price but they said no. They did however say we could have a free dessert or another free drinks but decided to remove the drinks we had already had from the bill. £25 was still too expensive for the 3 hours we were there just to have one main meal each and it wasn’t busy. Also there was two flies flying around and one napkin stuck to the side of the chair if the next table. The toilets were ok though no lock on toilet door, soap dispenser grotty and not all had soap. For a 5* hygiene restaurant it was definitely very very poor!

We popped into Henry's to get some food before a show. The front of house staff are excellent, very friendly and welcoming. Sadly, the rest of our experience left a lot to be desired for. Firstly, we had to return a pint because the beer was clearly 'off'. To their credit, the staff were happy to replace this. Despite arriving at Henry's 75 minutes before our show started we were warned we were unlikely to get many menu items within that time (even though it was incredibly quiet). Then, when we tried to order food a large number of items on the menu were unavailable and when we found something we were able to order it was distinctly average. Whetherspoons quality at over twice the price. Despite the friendly staff, I can't imagine we'll return.

Julie was fab! Super quick and friendly service with an all important smile. They didn't have our desired option due to supplier issues but Julie quickly suggested alternatives. We visited before a show and Julie made sure we were able to get in and out in time for the gig. Thanks Julie! :)

Stopped in for dinner after the theatre. It was fairly early so not too busy but still a nice atmosphere. Very good food and great service. Enjoyed our visit.

We requested a table that was wheelchair accessible for a party of 7 through an online form. I received an email the next day to explain that due to the size of the party they could not accommodate a wheelchair. I actually didn’t catch this email and we arrived for our booking anyway. Our hostess was extremely welcoming and accommodating and with some shuffling was able to fit us quite comfortably on the lower level. No one ever mentioned said email. The staff were friendly and attentive. The venue was clean and the atmosphere was comfortable. Would definitely return again 🙏

Spent the day at Henry’s watching the Rugby. We had an amazing time. Our table was reserved with great viewing access to watch all the games. Our food was delicious and our waitress Miah, could not do enough for us. Such a great venue with great staff and great food and drinks. We will be back again. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Very poor slow service. Ordered food as a table of 6 - each dish ended coming out separately. One dish came out and was finished before they brought the next dish out. That was then finished before they brought the next plate out. Questioned the staff after waiting for the last 2 dishes 45 minutes after the initial order and received no apology from the floor staff. Ordered desserts as part of the lunch deal and they came out luke warm with cold custard. Regretted entering Henry’s in the first place and wouldn’t return again.

The day we went, around 6pm, 7th September it was very quiet. We had a very nice meal at a good price and we were very well served by our waitress, Julie. She was friendly and efficient; we got served quickly. We would go again.

Just had an early evening meal and and it was average at best. Very busy and not enough waitresses. Food looked like it had been left under heat lamps for a while and was warm, not hot. All in all, it’s a glorified weatherspoons.

Bar staff very friendly. Waitress not quite so pleased to see us. Food was sadly very bland. Nice place but the chef needs a kick up his back end.

What should be a very nice bar, spoilt in 2 ways. Firstly to be listed as a bar, you might expect to be able to sit anywhere to drink. There's no signage telling you otherwise, but the waiting staff will chase you out of the large central area if you are not ordering food. Secondly, the toilets are very smelly. Not at all pleasant.

The worst experience. My Niece booked this restaurant to welcome our friends from the USA. My word, what a dismal first impression. It took forever for the waitress to take our order, forever for our food to arrive. When the food did arrive, it was served with a few minutes gap between each person (there were six of us). Three of the dishes were cold, and the server couldn't recall which of the lamb shanks were gluten free, so they went back for reorder. My Niece complained to the young waitress who offered a round of drinks but I saw red at this...a round of drinks for what was dismal, appalling service. I suggested that we get 50% off, or we walk out. The server then said she would speak to her manager. Well, that's some manager you have there as he/she left it to the quite obviously nervous waitress to tell us that 50% was agreed. The Manager should have come to address the situation but did not have the nerve to do so, leaving the poor girl to tell us. When it came to paying the bill, I got fed up waiting and left the table to find someone. The bill was eventually settled away from the table and I was told our server had gone home and you only had two staff left on duty. Dreadful. Dreadful. On the other hand, we ate at the Ty Madeira the next night. The quality and service was at the other end of the scale. Attentive service and hot delicious food. I know that our guests from the USA will remember the Ty Madeira, but will forget Henry's which should be avoided. Thank you for embarrassing my Niece with your most dreadful service.

Had our works Xmas do, clearly couldn’t cope with numbers. Not good when you see the staff all smoking by the side door on the way in. Food cold, carrots were burnt, beef quite fatty although gravlax was good. Wasn’t worth the price and considering all the other reviews something is amiss here and needs sorting. Waitress tried her best.

What can I say? This place has gone right downhill 👎 I don't live in Cardiff and I thought it would be nice to have a meal here before the show in the New Theatre. Been here a few times over the years. My Husband and I had a meal here last year which we enjoyed. Today was a different story. There was one member of staff waiting on the tables in a busy restaurant, he was trying his best but it was not enough to warrant good customer service. You could clearly tell the place was short-staffed. The new menu is poor, and it had all spelling mistakes. If you don't like chocolate then there is no dessert choice for you. Why not have a fruit alternative too? I had to ask a member of staff to order drinks and our meals they were then served by someone who usually just works in the kitchen. I ordered scampi and chips. The scampi was soaked in oil and I only ate it because there was no time to complain because we had to get to the theatre. My Husband had burger and chips he said they were okay but has had better from a burger van for the price. My meal would have been nicer from Weatherspoons and for half the price. We didn't bother ordering desserts one because of the poor choice and two because I probably would have had to call the waiter to order again rather than have him actually come over himself like we experience in other restaurants. We will definitely not be wasting our money here again

It has been a while since dining here, so gave it a go for a lunchtime meal. Service was very slow, although the restaurant side wasn't full, we were told it was a 40-50 minute wait for food! Goodness knows how long it would have been if the restaurant was full! After finishing eating, the plates were left with us for probably another 30 minutes. Didn't stay for desert, or probably would have spent another 60 minutes there!! Asked for the bill and was provided, but wasn't asked how we wanted to pay so no card machine was brought, we had to ask! In a pretty much cashless society, bit more forethought was probably needed. Sorry to say that there are better dining options in Cardiff, I won't be back.

I will avoid Henry's in December and with a large booking. The waiting staff were pleasant and tried hard but they were fighting a loosing battle. We had preorderd only to find that they had sold out of our deserts by 6pm. Surely by pre ordering you keep the already ordered food to one side. Not sell it twice. Possibly a money making scheme? One of the party had a severe nut allergy and could only have a cheese board but the staff had already given that out. Thankfully one of my group took charge of the waiting staff and was able to allocate most preorders to guests. The turkey was cold and as an apology Henry's felt that giving 4 bottles of prosecco to 32 people was appropriate. That is 10mls per person. At least company was great and we will go out again next December - just never to Henry's!!!

I have been a regular customer here in past but just had an Absolutely terrible meal. It was described as duck in an orange sauce with roasted onion, potatoes quinoa and kale. But I got duck with pretty much no sauce with salad ?? and roast potatoes. No apologies from them .. not informed when ordering that what I would get was nothing like what was described on the menu . Daughters burger was Burned. I will never go there again.

I took my staff there last night for food and a few drinks. My bill was £418.. Everyone was enjoying themselves, laughing and maybe talking a bit loud as we were placed by the window on a series of tables . One of our group went to the bar to be told that they weren’t serving us anymore alcohol because “ we had had enough and were noisy. I think there were possibly 10 other people in there. all spread out. There was no atmosphere and very quiet, had there been more people, chatting, laughing and enjoying themselves. They would not have heard us. The people sitting closest to us came and said they couldn’t believe what they had just heard. In his opinion we were just enjoying ourselves. Non of us by any means were intoxicated. We asked to see the manager but she wouldn’t come out of her office. I frequented Henry’s during the 80s and 90s, there were always a lot people in there and a nice atmosphere. I can see now why there isn’t anymore. Last night there were more staff than customers. The bar staff were very slow and seem to lack training. 2 small baileys and an appletizer cost £26.So not cheap!! . I was later informed by a colleague that we had paid £40 deposit that wasn’t taken off the bill. I have tried calling them many times today but no answer. I have left 2 messages and no one has got back to me. I am in shock at the awful lack of service and such a lack of respect for customers. If they thought we were noisy , why didn’t they come to the table and tell us? Not ask us to leave. From 7.30- 10pm we must have spent around £700. All I can say is they must be doing extremely well financially on other days to be able to treat customers the way we were treated. They certainly don’t do well on a Saturday night!! Never again will I patronise this place!!

Great atmosphere, and great period decor, it’s easy to feel like you have been transported back to the 1920s when visiting here! Good range of cocktails at reasonable prices. Food is also good, and there is quite a varied menu.

Food was lovely, have visited many times and have not had a bad meal. Only downside is the service is really slow. We ordered starters, mains and drinks all together, my husband's main came out with my starter and he had almost finished eating before my main came, by this point we were still waiting for our first set of drinks, we could see them on the bar but the staff were walking past them or standing around talking, trying to get their attention was a problem, they always avoided eye contact and pretended they did not hear us. Service has always been slow, before the app, we had to wait on average 45mins to get our bill, but the food and cocktails are lovely so always return. I would recommend Henry's, but allow enough time.

To be fair, I was there for the Christmas fixed menu. I caught sight of some items from the regular menu and they seemed quite nice. To start, we weren't offered a wine menu and I naively ordered away, to find on payment that the (not very special) wine was extravagantly priced. Chalk that down to experience. The tomato soup stater was ok. My salmon main was massively overcooked, accompanied by a pretty pink tasteless sauce and Brussels sprouts which managed to be both mushy and undercooked ( I like Brussels sprouts, just not these). My neighbour had the vegan option and said it was okay but he was unable to figure out what it tasted of, certainly no visible beetroot as described. Others had meat and seemed happy enough. For some reason I had ordered Christmas pudding, it was teeth grindingly sweet with no other discernible flavour. A good point is that the Christmas crackers were low waste. At, I think, £26, it was modestly priced but be sure to scale down your expectations too. Go for the other menu

Visited Henrys yesterday lunchtime with my 2 granddaughters. The air conditioning was on and it was just what we needed. We ordered 2 children's Sunday turkey roast and I had the mushroom Wellington. All meals arrived quickly. The children's meals were more than enough for the girls and my mushroom Wellington was delicious. The waitress was friendly and we thoroughly enjoyed. Will definitely return

A friend and I went here for dinner. Despite the circumstances, we were really impressed with the balance between following the guidelines as well as such a personable experience. The food was exceptional, though what really made our evening was our waitress, Izzy, who was unfailingly polite, attentive, professional and friendly; we felt very well taken care of. She is to be commended and is an absolute credit to Henry's, so thank you!

First and last time here! Asked for a medium rare steak, arrived at the table cremated and extremely well done. Sauce was missing from my plate, was meant to receive a bearnaise sauce. They eventually brought me Marie Rose sauce with it. Waiters were nice, except from the bar guys who were too busy talking to eachother instead of being more efficient in serving customers. Redhead girl with glasses was sweet and very nice!

Staff were very welcoming and helpful - door and bar staff. We were in search of espresso martini which was on tap here pre-mixed - we tried a taster but didn't enjoy it and there wasn't an option to have one mixed up which was a shame, but that is just our personal preference - can't please everyone! Opted for a glass of wine instead but after ordering and paying for a glass the waitress discovered supplies were very limited and they'd run out of the one we ordered. No problem for the staff who quickly and easily sorted the refund/purchase transaction for another drink. It was very quiet for a Friday (two other tables occupied maybe) and we were asked to drink up at 22:00 (having arrived at 21:30) because the bar was closing. This is much earlier than usual if the website is correct. I wish this place well as I've had a lot of good times here in the past, but it seems to be struggling a bit with supplies, atmosphere, opening hours and (again personal opinion) quality with regards to the pre mixed drink thing. Kudos to the staff for doing what they can.
