Absolutely the best service we have ever recieved anywhere. We are foodies and well travelled. We spend a lot of time with work and lifestyle staying in different areas, countries and eating out. However we have never been greeted with such warm beautiful smiles from all staff. They seem so happy to help and actually to be in work. The Sunday lunch was absolutely delicious and it was a very busy lunch time all staff throughout our entire visit remained extremely attentive and actually took time for everyone... the service there and what the staff provide is totally priceless. Even happy and helpful with our young two year old smiling at him, bringing a chalk board to entertain him calling his name it can be stressful eating out with a toddler but they were so warm and welcoming I just wanted to say the hugest thank you to you all for a lovely Sunday x x we will be back

Booked a table for 7pm expecting it to be very busy due to its reputation , but it was very quiet with only a few gentlemen in following the close of play at cricket. However this didnt detract from the great service, good beer and wonderful food we received. The staff were smart and attentive. On the bar were a selection of Evan Evans beers, all good quality. The food was beautifully cooked and nicely presented. The pastry on my beetroot, onion and goats cheese tart was amazingly light and crispy. Great pub, good beer, magnificent food

Love the sunday roast and always bring friends here. Staff are lovely, it's always busy on Sundays (so good idea to book!) and it has a lovely 'pub' feel. Food is brilliant and great value for money. Highly recommend 👌

Nice and friendly pub with a mix of beers and snacks. I was too late for food but from hearing the few customers in the pub talking it sounds like the food is pretty good. On a Tuesday night at ten I was the last customer in there. Very quiet - go and give them some custom if you're in the area.

Great location for a pub just outside of the city centre on cathedral road. Plenty of space in the side for seating with good social distancing options available. Friendly and helpful staff with short queues at the bar. A nice cosy atmosphere to go for a drink with some friends.

Meal very disappointing, hard potatoes, cold food, no extra potatoes as offered, service not very good. My granddad had to complain and even then, nobody came over. Very little gravy, no more given. When we had one bowl of veg between 9 of us, after complaining, another bowl was brought after everyone had finished. Won't be returning any time soon. As a birthday meal for my cousin, we were all disappointed. Looked nice but very poor quality.

We ate here twice. The second time was as part of a large group. The staff couldn’t have been kinder - accommodating us at the last minute. Kudos to the chef who got everything out hot and delicious. The Cricketers is a cozy, clean pub with a romantic vibe. Added bonus: I love it when folks don’t over charge for a glass of Prosecco. If I lived in the area, this would be my local.

Looks like a pub, but in reality it's more of a restaurant. Hard to find a seat inside if you're not dining, although there are large beer gardens front and back. The beer is surprisingly good, but pricey due to the location. Overall, nice enough, but wouldn't rush back.

A very nice pub with excellent quality food and very nice service. A little bit more expensive than most pubs but the quality reflects the price. I'll be going there again very soon.

Went for Sunday lunch, lovely food, very well cooked and presented. Staff who served us were very friendly. Recommended that you book in advance as it gets quite busy. Sunday set menu was also reasonably priced. Would recommend and would return.

Really friendly staff, good beer, great food (and in particular, spectacular chips!) and dog friendly, with water and treats. The fish and chips was particularly good but so was the pie and burger apparently! We will definitely be returning!

I liked the location Sunday roast was ok service could have been more attentive but maybe just not enough staff so stretched thin… staff were lovely when they came to us.

Superb range of gluten free beer because they are part of the awesome Evan Evans brewery. Friendly staff.

Very good pub food, and a nice rear terrace. The pub was pretty full but we were able to stop by with no booking and get drinks, burgers and a fish and chips in under an hour before our table was needed. Later we came back for a drink and again, it was pleasant to sit out the front. Can't speak as to the range of drinks but the staff were very helpful.

Can highly recommend as they always have excellent food at a reasonable price, especially the Sunday roasts! Decent drinks from the bar too. If the weather's good then they have a large and well maintained outdoor area at the back. Really enjoyable experience, I always feel comfortable here and have returned many times. A big thumbs up!

Food was tasty and plentiful, we were served very quickly. Would recommend the burger and the chocolate mousse! Sat in the garden with our dog but they also allow dogs inside. Good selection of drinks and pleasant service

It was safe, clean and we'll organised, and that means a lot. The beer is always good here and the food much improved since my last visit. Very nice monkish 'scampi'(if that's not a contradiction in terms'. Really nice braised beef. Staff are courteous and attentive, but not intrusive. I like The Cricketers a lot.

Honestly could not recommend the cricketers enough. We enquired with the cricketers to hold a family meal after our registry office wedding and it could not have gone better. Sophy and her team are so personable and really did everything they could to make the day really special. I’m so thankful to them all for going above and beyond not just for hosting us but for every extra detail included. The room looked perfect when we got there and the food was superb - to the point that all family members want to book in again. I can’t thank so Sophy and the team enough for being so laid back and and taking care of everything. It couldn’t have gone any better. It’s always been our favourite pub but now it holds a place in our hearts forever.

Nice pub in a quiet street. It must be a converted house rather than purpose built building. Large garden at back.

  • 3/5 Mathew T. 1 year ago on Google
Disappointing Sunday lunch. Food service was chaos, slow to be seated and even given a 1 page menu. 3pm half menu items not available, food cold when finally came and nothing to rave about. Did receive a free meal for the cold food but won't be going back any time soon I'm afraid.

Great place and very inviting! I was looking for a great meal and realized that I had to take it instead. They were very accommodating and the meal was fantastic! Highly recommend them for beers and food.

The Cricketors was a good pub but I visited on Rugby day so they ran out of food and beer. Despite this though, they have a spacious garden that's perfect for summer weather and the staff inside are friendly faced and bright. Would visit again, perhaps on a less busier day.

Lovely food here and the barman Cuthbert aka Liam was super friendly and a genuinely lovely guy. Definitely will be coming again. Lovely atmosphere and dog friendly too. Well done to the Cricketers team 👏

Excellent hospitality at The Cricketers, the staff were warm, welcoming and helpful. Sunday lunch was tasty, generous potions of main meal & pud!

Completely unpretentious and a great Sunday lunch. The staff were super friendly, but in particular, the fantastic lady who seated us. I’m visually impaired, and the thought and effort to accommodate this was both touching and made a huge difference. I didn’t get her name, but she is a real asset.

We had booked a large table for a Christmas meal. The food was delicious. The service was amazing with Georgia really making everything extra special. Would definitely recommend!

Very welcoming place serving great food and craft beer. Reasonably priced but glad it's not close to home or I'd soon be broke!

Managed to book a table here before heading to Principality Stadium for a rugby match. It was really busy (as is everywhere around). They did have to ask people to leave from our table (which we felt guilty for as there were no reserve signs). Food took quite a while to come was a little on the colder side when it arrived but was nice. Staff and door staff friendly 👍🏼

Nice food, nice staff and nice place in general. Fantastic beer garden. Doesn't seem to get as many people in as I think it should as it is a nice place to be.

First time visit, and pleasantly surprised. Roomy once inside with beer garden at the back, good selection of Welsh pale ales and bitters on the tap, didn't have a chance to eat but seems popular as few diners present

I had to change my rating as last visit was a big disappointment. In general it is an expensive pub but you know that food will be better than your average pub. Unfortunately last visit didn't feel as such. We were a big group of people so we had all sorts of food. The fish and chips were very greasy and hardly any cod in there. The pork loin was just an average piece of meat which could have been cooked better. There was no burger as they had run out of it on Friday night which you wouldnt expect. Wouldn't go again any time soon for food at least.

Six of us went for lunch. Good food: stone bass, burgers. Good beer: Welsh Pale Ale. Nice comfy feel. Friendly staff.

  • 3/5 Helen H. 2 years ago on Google
Clean but pricey. Limited menu that was not publicised anywhere so we struggled to find things suitable for guests with intolerances. Freezing cold in there as all doors were open. My meal was chicken schnitzel and rock hard so not great.. Staff all wearing different clothing so it was hard to spot who was staff and who were customers. Dull atmosphere. Constant queue for ladies toilet downstairs.

Our first night in Cardiff was made even more lovely by the dinner we shared at The Cricketers. Wonderful service, great traditional fare (must try the Welsh Rarebit), big portions, and the food came out hot and delicious. A must stop for anyone visiting Cardiff or for locals - who seemed to be numerous and always a good sign - alike.

Decent pub, good beer and tasty food, though a tad pricey. Beer garden is very pleasant on a warm day. Maybe just a bit lacking in atmosphere.

Booked a table for dinner only to turn up and find out the kitchen was closed and they weren't serving food. Didn't even bother to let us know before we turned up, even though the booking was made well in advance. Terrible customer service and communication.
