What can I say about the old cottage... they should have probably called it 'The Old Cabin in The Woods'... the place where food goes to die Went for Sunday lunch and was served what was apparently the carcass of some farm animal, it was dry, drier than a baron menopausal woman. Service didn't leave much to be desired either. Was left to my own devices and had to wave down the waitress to even order food. Overall an extremely disappointing experience.

Lovely place for family anniversary and dinner for two 🍾fine dining with no fuss but care for the taste and people! We appreciate the fast service for freshly cooked meals! Very clean and cosy atmosphere. Lovely professional personnel. Approachable prices for the quality of the food! My poached egg wasn’t runny but I still enjoyed it. I will advise to temper the red pepper flakes on the squid. It’s matching up but not too much as it was on my husband’s plate. All in all a very pleasant experience and I am recommend it!

Wow wow wow, this restaurant is amazing the food is absolutely fantasticly delicious, this is a must visit for anyone visiting Cardiff. Great atmosphere, background music is delightful. Staff are very friendly and tentative. Also dog friendly in the bar area, they bring a fresh bowl of water and treats for the dogs without even asking! I thoroughly enjoyed my visit, I'm still reminiscing about the food. Also dessert selection is too good to choose from, I asked for a taste of each and they happily obliged. Guys go visit this place, you will not be disappointed!

Vegetarian Nightmare - when I booked I told you that my partner was a vegetarian. He ordered the vegan mushroom starter I had the mushroom starter with white wine and cream - both delicious. We ordered a bottle of savingon blanc wine also delicious. Main course I had salmon my partner ordered the CANDIED ROOT VEGETABLE BAKE. Anyhow it came and he said he didn't recognise the vegetables on the top so started to eat the potatoes on the side. With that the young waiter came over and said we've given you the wrong main, it was actually BELLY PORK!!!! This did turn us off our main courses and the delicious moment had gone! He's been a vegetarian since he was a child. He took it quite well to be fair and the young waiter did apologise purfusely. We eventually had his main course I asked for chips in the meanwhile. The dessert was divine, vegan tiramasu for him and chocolate bomb for me . We than asked for the bill, it was a 2 for one offer email which was good but I was rather disappointed that the chips were added on the bill after the debarcle that occurred! So I told the young waiter I thought it should be removed. He then had to seek approval from his manager. The cost of the chips were removed. I was disappointed to be fair that an apology wasn't given and the cost of the wine wasn't removed either to be honest. So all in all great tasting food but mistakes were made that could have been rectified by management .

Was really looking forward to a pint and light bites after work. The food was very disappointing. ARTISAN RUSTIC BREADS & NOCELLARA OLIVES with olive oil & balsamic vinegar (v) £6.50 - 🙄 nothing Rustic about the bread, bits of stale crusts! Fries £3.75 - next time I'll go to McDonald's, they were fried, fired and fried again! greasy burnt offerings. Don't waste your money! Also the state of the ketchup bottle the manager offered me in these covid times was shocking! We enjoyed our pint but the rest forget it! Thanks for the reply, I tried to speak to you but you were more interested in telling me I'd ordered incorrectly as the food came from a starters menu and sides thats why they didn't come together. Hope you will be more hospitable to future customers.

Another knock out meal and experience last night, tasting the new menu and checking out the revamp, which is pretty lush comfy and welcoming. The lil sharer plates are to die for, lovely additions of bao buns and sticky chicken bites, yes please all day! Well worth a visit perfect for foodies and cocktail lovers. This place is on my return to list for sure, well done guys 👏 the waiter Aaron was a delight also 😀

Updated review: we've visited here twice recently. Pleasantly surprised by the food on both occasions. The roast dinner was delicious, the, everyone enjoyed all meals. A couple of suggestions to push this into a really fab restaurant - on both occasions there were quite a few items missing from the menu, although not a major issue for us as we are not particularly fussy, I'm sure it would be for others. Better ordering would help. The restaurant is a bit uncomfortable - bright, hot and humid with the kitchen in it, maybe worth looking at this longer term and service was a bit odd - wrong drinks, slow drinks and food sat waiting to be served for quite a while. On the whole good and will return

Busy Bar & Restaurant in a quiet area of Cardiff. Good service and great food! Although the staff were very busy nothing was too much trouble and we didn't have to wait long for our order.

Amazing Sunday Roast I have had. The Yorkshire pudding is on point, vegetable served on the size with Gravy sauce. Love the vibes of the restaurant Only cons is the restaurant is quite busy so no staff to take care for walk-ins. My friend did order and bring drinks by himself.

My parents took me here and I really was impressed by the decor, service and food. The staff are spot on with looking after us. It was busy during the week and for good reason. Food really is great, the lunch menu is a very good deal. The amount of food and quality means you really should come here more than once. We came here multiple times. Lunch menu to enjoy the fish and chips which is huge and fresh with a lovely thin batter. The starters are a good size and fresh. The desserts are nice. Ice cream is delicious, the crumble is lovely. We tried the Christmas menu, turkey was moist and I hope they gave a bit more pigs in blankets as they only gave one and I asked for one extra and got one extra. Poached pear was lovely. Coke was flat but they changed it. Good range of drinks and friendly staff. I highly recommend here. Enjoy and please press like.

Basically, the Nourish Bowl. Order the Nourish Bowl and ask them to add chicken, steak strips or king prawns to it. You won't regret it and everyone will stare at it wishing they'd ordered it too. But they didn't because they're silly, but you're not. Nourish Bowl, trust me.

Super clean and cosy! Great service times and absolutely delicious food with good seating area. I would have given a 5* if the staff were a bit more welcoming.

A relative booked this a couple of months prior to our arrival. One of the parties is Gluten free/vegetarian. We were informed there would be the normal menu on as well as the Fathers Day 3 course meal. This wasn’t the case. There was no gluten free bread and one veg starter. We had to request something be made up for them. There were no scallops left for starters. So had to choose alternatives. The mains came out Luke warm. Some sides were forgotten. When they were brought out we had finished. We were left without drinks in a hot restaurant for a very long time. Espresso Martinis served in whiskey glasses. Our deserts sat in front of us getting cold as we awaited spoons. Looking around the restaurant there were staff standing around or sitting down chatting. When the bill came it was wrong. This was eventually amended. I just wanted to leave. We spent £400 there, but would not return sorry.

Wow ! This stunning little pub/restaurant really delivers. Tried it for the first time and was not disappointed. Immaculately clean , the staff are 2nd to none in delivering top class service . We both went for the belly pork and crackling roast dinner , it has to be the tastiest roast I've had when dining out, for me the gravy is the crown on any roast , in this place the gravy is bottomless and stunning . For a treat we both went for the apple & damson crumble with a small saucepan of custard, was amazing . Would advise to book in advance , try it , you will not be disappointed 😋❤️👍

Plenty of choice in the menu, suitable for all ages - young & old. Amazing service, so incredibly helpful & cheerful, just automatically took our little birthday cake, no awkwardness & then even carried it out all lit for our young daughter. Food was great - generous portions & delicious. Def recommend - lovely place, the lovely staff really made the difference. Room was warm in the gorgeous sunshine - may need some coolers/air conditioning as a bit uncomfortable in the restaurant.

This is one of my favourite pubs to frequent… food is simply delicious, never had a bad meal. The service is attentive but not too much. Great facilities, especially if you own a dog - the bar area is so comfortable. I highly recommend.

An absolutely fabulous lunch. The staff were all so friendly and attentive. The veggie burger was excellent....thank you for a wonderful meal. The building is currently covered in scaffolding and I was told that they are closing for a couple of weeks for refurbishment. I look forward to returning once the work is finished

Very nice presentation 👏 just the roast could be warmer but delicious taste for roast and dessert and the drinks were well presented in lovely glass and garnishes!

Really nice food and great service! Shared the salt and pepper squid to start which was a really good size portion and very tasty. Would highly recommend the fish and chips, fish really fresh and bigger than the plate! Belly pork was very tasty and lovely little pulled pork bon bon, my only small criticism would be the crackling, it was more for show and wasn't 'crackled' enough. Overall, very full and would definitely come again.

Had a lush date night last night with my husband! Great service, lovely waitresses & amazing chefs! The new head & sous chef are brill & they cooked us amazing food! 10/10 & will definitely be going back there! Highly recommend. Pizza was delicious, those halloumi fries were the best!! & the chocolate bomb dessert! Oh my!

Went for a double birthday celebration, have been lots of times before and the Old Cottage always comes up with the goods. Starter main and dessert, all five of us came away happy. Yum!

A beautiful garden lunch on a sunny Tuesday afternoon. Pork belly and sticky toffee pudding cooked to perfection by Mike and Lewis; sharp and friendly table service by Aaron. Would recommend to anyone!

We were all very impressed with the really helpful and friendly service. The food was very tasty and the menu was interesting and varied. A bit pricey at about £45 per head with 2 bottles of very nice wine and half a dozen beers, but it was a special occasion with the family so not an issue. Everyone enjoyed it which was the important thing.

6 ladies had lunch last week. Everyone’s meal starters and main were delicious. We must mention the delightful young lady ABBY who looked after us. Nothing was too much trouble, everything delivered with a smile and so helpful and knowledgable when we asked questions. A real asset to this restaurant, please look after her. We will certainly be back.

Lovely lunch. I have reduced the points because of the ladies toilets. The door opens inwards and then it’s a struggle to get past the paper dispenser. I have never encountered that before. Toilets look a bit tired too.

Went to The Old Cottage for brunch with Santa on the 12th December. Was with my mum, 2 younger brothers and my son. Was greeted by Sophie who was dressed as an elf and served by Abbie. They were both really welcoming and helpful! Food was amazing - came out really fast and presentation was good too! Santa was also amazing with the kids, we had the best time! Will definitely be coming back next year 😊

Had a fantastic meal here, all our food was delicious! I had the duck parfait to start and the pork belly and scallops for mains and couldn’t fault them - they were amazing! Would highly recommend this place, we’ll be back for a Sunday lunch soon

Had a really fantastic meal. It was delicious and the service, atmosphere and internal decoration of the pub was great. It was good that the tables weren't too close together so to allow for social distancing. Many thanks for a lovely evening!

My first visit resulted in a disappointing experience. The pub was beautifully decorated and the staff were welcoming and pleasant, however, the food was less than acceptable. For such high prices i expected better and more plentiful platters. But most of all I would have expected my roast dinner to have been hotter than lukewarm. I don't like to make a fuss in a restaurant, I just don't return, sorry.

Awesome lunch of an extremely filling falafel salad. Pricey but just about worth it.
