The Prince of Wales in the centre of Cardiff is an old theatre converted into a Wetherspoons. It is on two levels. It retains a lot of its theatrical origins like some circle seats. You can still see the stage arch and boxes. It was the standard Wetherspoons menu and good service.

Massive building, brilliantly and efficiently run. Fab staff and door stewards, felt safe and it's a lovely place to look at inside too. Plus they do stackable pint mugs that you can easily carry four of in each hand, joyful!

Enjoyed some nibbles and quite a few cocktails. Took a while to get food and longer fir the drinks but it was rammed and the food was good and the cocktails were lush. Definitely good value.

Visited on a Sunday lunch time. Firstly the building itself is stunning. Very large old theatre. The place was fairly quiet but was a sunny day. Easily found a table and ordered via the app. Food came out quickly as did the drinks. Did not visit the toilets. Ok as weatherspoons go. Place was tidy and clean. Great central location.

Massive restaurant/bar spread out over 2 floors located in a historic building that once was a theater. The theater boxes are still present and one view upstairs has you looking at what looks like theater seating although is just decoration. There is plenty of options on the menu and all well priced as well as inexpensive drinks. I can see why it is so popular any day of the week. Currently there is construction taking place inside the building although only visible from the outside of the restaurant.

Me and some friends were in town for Clash at the Castle and came across this amazingly preserved old theater turned Wetherspoons. As expected it was very busy. But lucky for us they were doing a queuing system upstairs, so didn't have to wait too long for a table. The table service off the app was good and the food is what you expect. But the interior of the old theater is stunning. I would highly recommend a visit.

Lovely experience with good atmosphere and found a table with great views. Loved the mixed grill and local ale. Missed out on breakfast because they were shut for maintenance

Great for unlimited hot drinks and tea £1.45. Good food and not a ridiculous price. Got the thumbs up from me. Can always rely on this chain to deliver. Excellent value.

This is a great place to grab some food. The biggest issue is that it is very busy, so it is not quick. The service is good and the food was lovely. We had a lovely full English breakfast around 11 a.m., and it was pretty busy then, around 25 to 30 min wait. A great place to go for very reasonably price food and drinks, as long as you really are not looking to have a good chat with anyone as it is so busy that it makes a lot of noise, but it is a great atmosphere.

Drinks - great price in comparison to other prices. We tried food here for the first time and surprisingly was very good. Tables could be cleared and cleaned more often, and wiped properly many were just sticky. 😫 In overall this is very nice pub, big lively nice architecture of old theatre. And great central location 👍🏻

Excellent food and service. It's always over crowded on weekends. You get money's worth here. Lot of beer and cocktail choices. Originally it was an opera Theatre. Now converted in to a pub. Neet and clean pub.

Three of us had the small fish and chips. It came in a reasonable time and was hot and crisp, perfectly okay. One plate had a slice of lemon with the fish, but the other two did not. I asked if we could have two more slices for the other meals but they never came. I was disappointed that they did not serve any zero or low alcohol apple cider except for some sweet berry versions. Most of the traditional cider makers produce a very reasonable zero or low alcohol version now, most clubs and pubs have one, I would have thought they should stock it.

I had the Christmas Dinner it was at 14.69 with a alcohol drink. The dinner was a cheap imitation with the turkey was slices not a good food very dry and there was not much veg on the plate. There were more peas than anything, sausages were cocktail sausages with next to no bacon, and supposedly, there was gravy but none on my plate. Sorry no picture.

Cheap and cheerful. Prompt service when using the app. Lots of choice in foods and drinks. Loud and busy for a Wednesday lunchtime, but food and drinks came quickly. They'd run out of mayonnaise at the condiments table, and told us they were having supply issues. Lemonade tasted off, reported to staff who offered to replace my drink. Great service.

Jess and Liam - that is where I would like to start this review. I have had nothing but amazing experiences with this place, but recently it topped even itself with two individuals. It starts with an unfortunate accident that happened to me which meant I was taken to hospital. I could leave the hospital, but I had left all of my personal belongings there: Laptop: Would have lost important freelance clients in the days that I have been here. Mobile Phone: Wouldn't have been able to let family and friends know what had happened Wallet: Self explanatory. Thanks to extraordinary understanding, humanity (and in the case of Jess) bravery I got my things back without having to leave. I placed a call to Liam who was incredibly understanding - the first thing he asked was "how are you!?". He then spoke to manager Jess who agreed to bring it PERSONALLY to me to ensure its safe arrival. I could go on - but my point is - if you want somewhere to eat good food and drink amidst people you just know are taking the best care of you - this is the place. The Prince of Wales - Above and Beyond.

The food was delicious, I had a mixed grill, very succulent meat, I was surprised at how nice it all was to be honest. The staff were very helpful and polite, went above and beyond any other staff I've encountered in any other wetherspoons so far. Keep up the good work guys

Filth pit, chipotle mayo is extremely spiced. Like a horrible spice. The place is a filth pit sticky cold. Not a nice atmosphere for eating, you can smell cigarettes and sewerage. I ordered chips they were filthy, my southern chicken wrap was foul, the chicken was stringy and rock solid. Never going back.

Extremely popular and always very busy Wetherspoons situated very close to the central train and soon to be bus station. Although its busy it is always well staffed so food and drinks arrive quite quickly.

  • 5/5 David M. 10 months ago on Google
Love this particular spoons because of the history and decor and you can always get served quickly, a pub you can drink alone and feel safe,

They've done a really good job of the interior here and, for a Spoons, it's quite clean! But it is still a Spoons... Overcrowded, tables dirty (with glasses seldom being cleared) and last time we went it took them 50 minutes to make a cocktail pitcher (granted this was on a Saturday night). In short: you get what you pay for. Good place for a cheap pint and not much else.

Huge amazingly preserved old theater! I did get to see it all but the guy on the bar was very knowledgeable on the history of the building. The downstairs girls toilets are stunning too and an amazing place for a picture opportunity as the lighting is great.

Very good Spoons. I've been to 238 of them and this has to be one of the busiest, so a bit of a nightmare to get a table. But service was incredible given how busy it was. Food was proper hot too and they did Black Dragon. Lovely building too with some fantastic architecture.

Even was a game night last weekend their service was fast and the friendly. But the Online order is not friendly user so we had to queue at the counter as the beer selection was not available on the app. The plant burger was good.

What more can you say, always affordable quality food at a realistic price. Oh and did I mention good beer at stupid low prices.

It's a wetherspoons so the usual sticky floors, menus and tables. Food was ok and staff friendly. Building is an old theatre and really lovely - look up 🤓

The prince of Wales is in the very center of Cardiff! Two minutes walk from the main central train station! The staff are friendly with a huge menu for all tastes, something for everyone to drink at prices you really can't beat! What makes this wetherspoon different for me is the building Itself, with many of the original features and building parts it's an old theatre and it's absolutely grand and eye opening, really really cool!

Sent back eggs benedict twice, muffin was not toasted and almost stale the whole way through. Came back the exact same way so was changed for a small breakfast. Small breakfast was hot but bacon was really dry. Worst Wetherspoons experience so far.

A great breakfast. They'd run out of brown sauce but found some when I asked.

  • 3/5 eliza h. 2 years ago on Google
The food is your classic pub food. You get what you ask for and it’s usually top quality. The staff are very hospitable and friendly escpeciallt Meme who handled our needs very well, we were all very impressed with her glass stacking skills! The downside is the management which is a let down and we had to wait a while for our drinks.

The bold small bouncer has 0 respect would've been a great night if the bouncer didn't have anger issues. Everything else was great but this small man needs help

  • 2/5 Sam L. 2 years ago on Google
Great facilities but wait time was around an hour between ordering and food arriving at the table. Staff weren't very accommodating. One member of staff was swinging her lanyard and narrowly missed hitting my colleague in the face with it. No apology either.

The atmosphere and setting is absolutely beautiful being a converted theatre, and was a very unique experience for me. However the food was unfortunately very average

Fantastic building in city centre, great atmosphere, typical wetherspoons welcome and excellent service, we loved it.

  • 5/5 Lee D. 2 years ago on Google
Service is a lot better compared to other spoons around the city. Due to the lack of luxury of being able to go to the bar to collect your own pint slows down the process slightly, but not by too much at this place. It was nice to see staff getting things done :)

With 2 floors and a view of the old stage really adds to the character of this converted theatre pub! Relatively quick service, and a great location, only downside is that it can be busy on match nights due to it being within 100 metres of the principality stadium. Overall 5/5 for me though! Good food, atmosphere topped off by the character of the old theatre.
