What an absolute let down. We booked a table for 6.30 and arrived at 6.10 to be told they didn't have any Carvery because they sold out at lunchtime. OMG this place will be closed by March at this rate. The selling point is the food so not having any right next to 3 supermarkets is a huge downfall. The decor is old and when the winter bills roll in Marston's will pull the plug on this sad establishment. Why is it the same chain can be so poor is it a Cardiff problem as my other experience's in Llanelli were great !

Lovely spacious restaurant / public house. Clean and tidy with friendly and helpful staff. A very comprehensive menu for food and drinks, reasonably priced too. On my first visit I had the carvery, this was excellent quality and fantastic taste at a great temperature. We most definitely visit again, highly recommended 10/10.

We came here for a meet up for food and beers one evening and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a Thursday evening and there was a quiz on so we've been coming back every Thursday since! The food is amazing; I can especially recommend the burgers; flame grilled to perfection and served with a pile of skinny fries. There's a great selection of beers and my current favourite, Neck Oil from Beavertown brewery. The ambience is pleasant and the music is gentle background, suitable for a conversation. Staff are all very friendly and welcoming. The restaurant also allows dogs inside. Only negative is it's a bit pricey.

Good pub with food. Large free car park. Very reasonably priced. Staff were very friendly. I had a carvery which was fine. Situated very near Cardiff City Stadium.

Every time we come here we feel so welcome by all members of staff, in particular Ieuan, Michelle and Abbie. The tribute acts they have booked have been amazing. We have such a good time every time we come here. Food is lovely and the atmosphere is everything you would want in a pub/restaurant.

I walked in to a pleasing atmosphere I located a seat at the far end from the entrance. I checked out the menu and noticed a number of my favourite meals. All of them cost ÂŁ11:20. There was cheaper and more expensive meals . I chose the gammon and pineapple. I went to the bar and was met by a young lady who smiled at me and took my order. I also had a pint of Amstel. As I walked back to my table I was met by my meal I hadn't even sat down. What a quick service. I noticed two big pieces of pineapple on my gammon. I enjoyed my meal then left.

I had the Surf and Turf and I would recommend it. It came with nice mushrooms. It's a large and popular place with plenty of space.

Went with a large group for a prebooked Christmas meal .It was really disappointing food was lukewarm to cold . we were expecting a carvery no longer do carvery only weekend s now got a almost cold turkey dinner no cranberry sauce was offered a long wait for the gravy and rest of the vegetables. Suspect the roast dinners were yesterdays left overs brick hard roast potatoes poorly warmed up!the staff did their best as they were the only servers there to run the bar serve us and other customers at the same time would definitely not recommend it took so long some people had to leave to go back to work before desert arrived very disappointing!

I went with my son for a meal. The food was good, the atmosphere was good. It was a pleasant experience. The barman was very nice and friendly. It's a tidy, well-presented place. It's a great place to go if you want a meal and conversation. It was easy to park. We'll go there again, definitely.

My husband and I brought my grandmother for lunch after my mother passed away last week unexpectedly. We wanted to get her out of the house. We came for lunch as we knew it would be quieter. The service was great. We ordered at the table which was really convenient. The food was lovely. It was a pleasant experience.

First time I've visited and was pleasantly surprised. A lovely atmosphere here with friendly staff. Lots of choice on the menus or just grab a drink or two. Nice space at the back end of the venue to keep the kids entertained. Will definitely make a return visit soon :)

We visited the Sand Martin today for food and unfortunately left a little disappointed. Our garlic bread starter was overdone but still edible. I ordered a steak and paid the ÂŁ2 surcharge for peppercorn sauce, however when the meal arrived the sauce was congealed like jelly in the bottom of the small jug and there was barely a tea spoonful. I did approach a member of staff. I think it may have been the manager but i'm not certain and she assured me that this was the correct consistency and portion and that if I wanted more it would be another ÂŁ2. I wasn't about to pay another ÂŁ2 for another trickle of peppercorn sauce so I just ate my steak dry and we left. My partner did enjoy his main and the staff seemed nice but I won't return because I didn't enjoy my food and I have had better meals at other restaurants in the area.

We arrived at 15:30pm with not much choice of tables as the majority were dirty and still full of finished dishes. The other half of the restaurant was cordoned off. We couldn’t have a carvery as they had sold out. When we did find a clean table, we ordered via the QR code. The app did not explain they the light version of the southern fried chicken burger would be covered in onions. I cannot eat onions due to a stomach condition and so checked the ingredients list which didn’t say anything about including them and they were not included in the non lighter version either so thought that would be ok. My husband ordered the ultimate spicy beef burger and the fries came hard and cold. My daughter had a hunters chicken off the bigger appetites menu and the chicken and bacon were hard, so she had to pull it apart the try and cut it. We ordered drinks at 15:45pm and they didn’t arrive until 16:07pm after asking for them. By this point I cancelled my order as we were unhappy and had lost patience. The toilets were disgusting and smelt terrible of urine. I did have an apology from a guy at the bar who refunded my meal. I looked for his name on the receipt to give him some credit but it said I was served by Olivia. We will not be returning!! I think a better manager should be considered or at least a refresh on management training.

Nice and clean, not too busy which was nice on a Sunday. Staff are nice and friendly. Adults had carvery, was nice but would of liked more choice of vegetables and maybe Parsnips

I came with friends for the weekly quiz. The staff are friendly & the wine we drank was pleasant. We have eaten before but not last night. The menu could be more adventurous ..but as the pub is part of a chain - probably difficult to make changes quickly.

Nice and warm large pub needed after watching the football next door. A kids area which adds a small amount of screeching but all contained. Beer priced much as elsewhere and a good selection of food. I only had a couple of beers which were fine.

We visited The Sand Martin Pub to celebrate my daughter birthday. Lovely staff, friendly and helpful. Food was fresh, hot and overall lovely. Toilets were clean. The pub was just overall friendly and I felt family oriented. Was lovely to visit a pub and feel relaxed and at ease. Well done to the new management Matt and all the staff including the chief. We will be back soon - thank you for making such a big booking an easy and enjoyable experience. There were 12 of us. Thank you sand Martin

Pretty ordinary corporates pub, but clean and pleasant enough. The food is good, and reasonably priced, the quantities are large, and the service is rapid. You can easily drop in for a cooked meal during a one-hour lunch break

Not a bad pub at at all. The staff were really friendly and the pints were good. Really chilled atmosphere and a nice place to catch up with the family. The food was ok. About what you’d expect from a pub chain. It was enjoyable and piping hot but nothing you’d go bragging to your friends about. My only issue was one of our party had the hunters chicken and the size of the chicken breast was laughable. 3 mouthfuls and it was gone and I’m not talking big mouthfuls. I notice they also advertise on the lite bites that they do hunters chicken with half a chicken breast……if it’s half the size of what came out tonight I really wouldn’t bother. Best advise is avoid the hunters chicken.

Had a carvery meal that was cold from the start. We were celebrating Christmas with family so didn't want to complain but would not go there again. Shame because the quantities were good and dessert was good too, although they had run out of two of the desserts we ordered. Far from satisfactory.

A great place for lunch or dinner especially for families. Food is good and not expensive. Small indoor play are for young children. Good outside area to sit and eat/drink as well. The pub is situated very close to Cardiff City football club and also a large shopping area.

Lovely place, lots of seating inside and out, food looked good with a daily carvery offered and is very welcoming to away fans. If any downside the lack of screens to watch sport (only 2 small screens) but that is no major issue. Would have no hesitation recommending the pub or visiting again in the future

Had a lovely dinner for Fathers’ Day here! All staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, especially Ieuan and Michelle who took the time to chat with us and make our lunch feel special! The food was beautiful and served promptly, making our visit a breeze. Thank you all!

£8.55 for that!! I feel robbed, it’s not like it’s in London. Gluten free Peroni tastes like p***. Won’t be back.

Still closing at10pm???? Someone needs to tell them that the covid restrictions on hospitality have been lifted. Only checked this site so I could book a taxi home, found out later it was 11pm. Had booked a table for 8 people for the Tom Jones tribute act, had a great night, great food, great staff, nice place and good act for a sing along. You need to put the correct opening and closing times so people don't get confused. We'll be back for the next night with a tribute act.

Very nice as always, we have been many times and have never second guessed going back. Great quality food and not overly priced. We have had the mixed grills, carveries and burgers and enjoyed them all.

Visited on a match day. Even so, food was below average though the carvery seemed better. Some staff very helpful but others clearly didn't want to be there. When the match finished some families with young children arrived who ran around unsupervised. The children's play area toys and amusement area was a no-go area. Expected better.

A very nice Sunday lunch with my family. Beautiful carvery and a good selection of other meals to suit all tastes. More gluten free options would be nice though. Efficient, friendly and prompt service and a nice welcome on arrival. Good value for money a nice atmosphere and nice surroundings.

Just had lunch at the Sand Martin at we were extremely impressed. We were greeted by a friendly member of staff and shown to a table that had chairs that were very low. As I am disabled it wasn't any good but we were shown to a different table straight away. Ordered drinks and they came within minutes. Our food order also came very quickly and was absolutely delicious. My husband had the mixed grill and I had the BBQ chicken burger. All the meat in the mixed grill was cooked to perfection and the chicken in my burger was beautifully tender. We can't fault the service or the food and would definitely recommend to anyone.

1st time visiting we had some drinks and ordered a weekday carvery and a burger. Drinks were fine but the food was rubbish. Chewy gristle throughout a tasteless piece of beef and the cheapest fattest mince used for the burger I've ever experienced. It was greasy and again tasteless. Proper nasty burger, uneditable. Will not be returning here again.

The service was really helpful, we had a member of our party who is dairy and gluten intolerant. So it was really helpful that they had an entire menu that completely catered to their needs. The service and delivery of food was really quick. The children’s area was prefect for my children who are both under 5 it meant that they didn’t have to sit to long or on tablets. Would 100% recommend and would 100% come back again. One suggestion though is children cutlery and to bring the children’s food first, other than that we had a lovely experience.
