Came here for lunch recently (early Jan 23) as part of a large party (about 17 of us). We walked over from UHW after lectures. It was easy to get to on foot and there is also parking and an outdoor seating area with pretty lights which we ignored (it's winter ❄️😅). The inside reminded me of an old man's working club with its high ceilings and old fashioned decor, and it was clear that some of the customers there were regulars. Some of them were giving us dirty looks as though we had sat in their seats which made the atmosphere a little prickly! We ordered food but were told there would be a 45 minute wait. Not ideal but we weren't really going to lose sleep over it. 55 minutes later and while some of our group had received their food, it seemed as though smaller parties who had come in after us were receiving their orders quicker. We asked the waitress/server who assured us this was not the case. It was an hour and ten before I received my food and one of the girls (one of the first to place her order) didn't receive her burger until 15 minutes after that. By that time, some of our group had finished their meals and demolished a pud! I ordered a tuna melt panini with chips. My food was piping hot and I have to say the chips were some of the best I have ever tasted. Very unexpected from a 'Spoons! The panini was tasty too but a little salad garnish might have cheered the plate up a bit - so 4 stars for the meal. Though that's obviously personal preference. The bar itself had a good range of drinks including Thatchers on tap which is what I opted for. I wish I had clocked the name of the guy behind the bar as he was awesome and definitely made the experience better than it would otherwise have been. He was very friendly, chatty, knowledgeable and helpful and clearly born for a customer facing role (about 5ft 8" or 9", slim build, mousey, wavy hair, about 26 years old - if you read this, thank you 🙏). If I could base my review on him alone, I'd have given 5 stars ✨. I feel bad giving 3 stars as we hadn't booked and things might have been different if we had, and the food was lovely. The only thing that let it down, apart from the wait were the evils we were getting from the regulars. Its a public house people. You don't own it! Overall I would recommend. But if you are a large party, book first. 🤘

I haven't eaten, nor have I experienced the atmosphere because I like to get served and head outdoors to the smoking area. However, I have seen the food produced and the joy on the people's faces that get to tuck into their tasty treats. It's safe to say the food goes down a treat, just like a virgin at the end of school disco.

Rude. Very poor service and when I questioned it I was called abusive. What is charging people money and not actually delivering the food ordered? And when it is delivered, ¼ of it missing and the rest cold? Promised hot replacement never appeared. Saying you feel abused when you fail to deliver isn’t good enough. How should the paying customer feel?

My wife is in a wheelchair and to gain access to the premises you have to ring a bell on the door of the enclosed car park and wait for someone to let you in,unfortunately on this occasion unbeknown to myself the bell wasn't working so after a while I had to go into the pub to get assistance, leaving my wife outside not good. I hope this gets sorted soon as the place itself is lovely and would want to visit again.

Good pub to visit. Hasn’t been there for many years but the staff were friendly. Nice atmosphere and had the rugby on which was great. Good choice of drinks from the bar as you would expect.

Ordered by the app because I was by myself service was quick. No pouring cream for the dessert or no pizzas so couldn't use my discounts. Wifi is goo. Food came out warm but brownie was hot. Felt like the gammon, egg and chips were lacking in authenticity and didn't come with pineapple. Sounded like they were using a microwave in the kitchen as you could hear the beeping every few seconds. Disappointed in the gammon because it was sliced too thin and looked like it was just reheated. The app didn't give me the a option to change the ice cream to cream so I had to ask and what she said was my response in the first sentence. Also, didn't get a straw with my drink even thought there was I had pressed yes and the drink came after the food.

I normally love it here, safe bet for some good food at decent prices but it was very the furniture and decor were looking really worse for wear, tables felt dirty and the food wasn't very nice. Great staff though and I will try again another day.

This place shouldn't be high on anyone's expectations after all the head chef is a microwave. Is it good for a quick bite and a drink? Yeah sure. However its not very good if you plan to have above average food and don't want watered down pints. Recently they have been reducing their meal sizes and portions hoping no one would catch on but see my attached picture and look at the amount of rice served with a curry and the picture is after we sent it back to the kitchen to have more rice added, so you can imagine what the portion was like before. They also forgot one of our meals and it was only after everyone started eating that we realised they weren't coming with our other meal . So we had to go to the bar to notify someone however there was no one there so we had to wander around to try find a member of staff who could locate our food. Also if you're arriving here by car MAKE SURE you input your registration to the machine at the bar, as the car park is monitored by a scam parking company who will send you a ticket in the post if you forget to input your registration, and there's no point calling the pub for help as they say its nothing to do with them as the car park is monitored by a separate company. All in all pretty average Wetherspoons.

Really busy only 1 staff member taking orders, no cups for the hot drinks had to wait for them to bring over clean cups. Ordered 4 large breakfast with black pudding all brought our different times two were given to wrong table, asked for the black pudding that was ordered and was brought out to us literally as we were finishing out food, understaffed no idea of what was going on and didn't seem to be any member of staff raking charge of the situation had to speak to different staff everytime to see what was going on.

This place is all over the place. Met family there on Sunday food cold over cooked and staff never once cleaned the tables from past guests. I'm sorry but the staff need training and the kitchen needs an overall. Also maybe be good idea to hire additional staff for Sundays.

Visited on 6/1/23 - customer service was appalling. Having to wait 5 minutes to get served because a member of staff is too busy talking to someone on the floor having a personal conversation. We were a large party of 10+, about 5 of us had to send back hot drinks because they tasted disgusting. Tables were left uncleaned after people had vacated for far too long to the point new customers were coming in and having to relocate the old dishes etc to other tables for them to sit down. Also this is no fault of the staff here but the app is showing an out of date seasonal menu which led to disappointment at the unavailability of a lot of choices that looked good when browsing.

Went for Breakfast this morning, the eating area is run down and can do with some rejuvenation its like something from the coal miming days. the table we sat at had the number plate missing went to another and that was the same but it was handwritten on the spot. The meus were stained and just grubby to the touch not the best in hygiene. Ordered two regular breakfasts, believe me this is typical road side standards. My Wifes bacon was grey in colour she didnt eat it, mine was 80% fat. The mushroom were two large sized flat ones which looked they had been flattened to much and slicing through the grease made them tacky. Not sure why they cant serve button mushroom which are the norm and much nicer. The sausage was ok but nothing to say that was really tasty . The condiment area had no Red sauce but a few Brown sauce sachets with mustard and salt and pepper packets. I thought these sachets had gone years ago. Would like to see proper sauce dispensers and not the sachet rubbish. Would I go back NO , you get what you pay for the whole lot was around £11 Better off paying the few quid more to get food that is of a higher standard like at the Fino Lounge , the surroundings are nicer , No sachets , Tastier bacon and sausages. You only make the mistake once and this was a mistake.

Just had a vegetarian breakfast which tasted of fish, I sent the sausages back, which were inedible. The replacement sausages were just as bad, so we just left. The place was dirty and smelt. The whole time we were there, no tables were cleared or cleaned, and the manager clearly didn't care. She refused to taste the food. All in all, dirty, depressing, and unlove.

Visited here on Wednesday 26 April for my mother's 87th birthday. No access entry for wheelchairs as step into the pub and no hand rail or slope, There was 11 of us, we wrote all our meals out including drinks, we went to order our food only to find out 1 person taking food orders and also serving the drinks, which took ages. There was no cutlery or serviettes so had to get our own. When the food eventually arrived some of them were cold and some returned. The decor is drab and dreary. No sign of food or glasses taking away so had to place all our dirty plates onto another table. The only good thing about our experience was the drink (alcohol or soft) drinks were included in the meal price. Would never go back here.

Just over £2 for a pint of Worthington is incredible VFM. Location on a traffic island near the busiest junction in Cardiff is not ideal. However, you don't notice once you are inside.

I visited with friends for a breakfast and a catch-up. Like most of these chain pubs they a pretty soulless with a cut and paste menu and decorations. The same, quiet music is playing and even the seats are generic. I grew up visiting proper valley pubs and rugby clubs with weird, random but unique personalities so I don't really see the appeal with a weatherspoons as anything other than a big posh cafe that serves beer. In your 'local' you can get a bit of small talk and banter with the staff but in these places they are blank faced robots with no personalities who probably don't know the regulars names or what they do for a living. The breakfast was really good but I can't get past the cafe with beer feeling.

Can't fault this place, it's a good example of a busy Wetherspoons, turning into car park can be a bit 'hairy' prepare for it and you'll be fine. Food, mainly breakfasts I've had, is tasty and cheap I think. Love it. Good coffee too.

Went in on a Monday evening, was quite busy, queue at the bar for food was long so we opted to order on the app. Friends we were with ordered at the bar, their food came first but the order was totally wrong, I think there may have been crossed wires when the order was taken, our food came, the mixed grills were awful to be honest, meat was overcooked, meal wasn't very hot and there was an egg missing off one of them, the staff seemed a bit rude when asked for clean cutlery. Some of the cutlery was dirty. With the mix up with our friends, one of them was waiting over an hour for his order. The place was clearly understaffed. Won't visit again unfortunately.

Staff Serving Very Good and Polite. Food not good at all. Sirloin Steak was like Trying to Chew Through a Piece of Rope. Cold Chips and Peas. Definitely not like any Sirloin I have ever Tasted. Used to be much better food on previous Visits

As always wetherspoons doesn't disappoint here, great location, food, cheap drink and great friendly staff. A big beer garden with sea views. Always busy with a good atmosphere, definitely recommend if visiting WSM.

Great location for a. Wetherspoons, given that this one has a car park and is conveniently located in North Cardiff. I visited recently to take the kids out for some food. The pub wasn't too crowded, however, social distancing seemed pretty poor and very few of the staff wore masks. Frustratingly the app is very sporadic when you try and order. Whilst a number of things were showing as unavailable on the app, which is fair enough, I tried ordering five separate items from the children's menu to find. Find each time I got to the cart it told me it was unavailable and removed. It therefore took me around 20 minutes to order my kids food. The pub overall is very clean and service was good.

Both service and food can be hit and miss. Been several times and sometimes it's great, sometimes poor. Overall it is a fairly standard Wetherspoons. You pretty much know what to expect before you go in.

Plenty of room to sit. Sticky and unclean tables despite it being quiet when we visited. Excellent value food and drink. Very good staff.

The staff were very hospitable here and willing to chat. Food was good and I enjoyed a jacket potato 😋 with some h beef chilli and salad. For a drink I had the reliable Shipyard. Nice outdoor terrace which could be improved with some hanging baskets. An interesting interior with comfortable rooms and the large main one. Interesting tribute to Welsh political figures

Good service, shame about the fish and chips, dried out overcooked insipid thin piece of fish. The other two meals were good though. Hence 4 stars.

Quick service, using the app is the fastest option. Great value food, served hot and of good quality and portion size. Plenty of parking on my visit too. Fantastic provisions for social distancing, very clean and tidy. Staff very friendly and helpful. It's always a pleasant visit here. Highly recommended.

Friday evening visit - staff were lovely. Little bit of a wait for service. Lots of seating though it did start filling up more like 7.30. Whole place pretty clean 🙂. Food didn't take long to arrive and plates were cleared quickly. My boyfriend and I were happy with portion sizes (good value for money), and my salad was nice and fresh.

Ordered 4 meals with drinks and paid. Then found out they had run out of ingredients for two of the meals. One guests decided he would not eat and the other had to order something else. Did not even get the full amount of meal that was cancelled back. We also waited a lot longer than others in our group who ordered after us. Half our group had already ate pudding and left before we had finished. Not sure I will come back again in a hurry and you only got three stars because it was the second time i visited that week and the first time was a bit better.

Just your normal Wetherspoons pub, decent beer, bar food & facilities. I found the bar staff pleasant & efficient. The good thing is that they haven't increased their prices that much so haven't priced themselves out of my market like some pubs have.

Nice venue, first visit for breakfast. Ordered eggs benedict, very nice but yolks were solid not runny as they should be, only second time I've had solid yolk. Good service friendly staff.

Standard spoons! Can't go wrong really. Staff are nice enough and easy to get parking and table for breakfast. I wouldn't drive there at peak times as won't get a spot.

Food was very quick out of the kitchen and boiling hot. There was no atmosphere in the dining room. It was cheap and cheerful. The dining room needs updating and maybe new chairs.

Normally it would be a 4 star review, but today was not a good day. Salad had a bit of a nasty taste and not only myself noticing it. Also no tomato ketchup on the premises at all. This might sound extremely petty but when you take a fussy grandchild along and there’s no red sauce ! 😬 So please keep up with your supply’s. Finally, learnt there had been a flood in the corridor area to the ladies toilets and it smelt Terrible. Window could be open and air fresheners. Had to haul grandchild through double speed. She was gagging. Not their fault of course but I’m guessing it needs attention. Another customer said they’ve been complaining to no avail. Otherwise, this is my go to lunch destination. Sad if this continues.
