Lovely pub that me and my work team popped onto after a team building day. Lovely staff but I was SO impressed with the toilets!! Nice layout in the pub, smoking area etc

Our table was fairly sticky and messy, despite it seemingly being cleaned. Our first drinks took a long time to arrive, and we could see them sat at the bar for a long time before someone brought them over. I appreciate they may have been short staffed, but the entire bar piled up with drinks at one point. When the food arrived, I was really let down. It was like they'd ran out of food, and were just putting the remaining scraps on the plate. I ordered fish and chips, and got around 8 chips with it, along with a small and mostly batter fish. We decided to order dessert, and after a long time again, our "warm" fudge cake with ice cream arrived virtually stone cold, with a literal teaspoon of ice cream. Even my friend, who wouldn't usually comment on these things, was shocked. I know it's a wetherspoons, you're not going to get fine dining. But I've never had a worse meal or experience at any spoons than I had at this one. Maybe they were short staffed, who knows. But it just led to a disappointing, small, cold meal with long wait times that delivered nothing.

The place is superb and located in City Road close to Newport Road in Cardiff with plenty of parking around it, though if nothing available in City Road one may need to pay for parking that is just adjacent to witherspoon. Having said that there is no parking in Newport Road. Breakfast is served and prices are not to cost you your arm and a leg. In any case you may have as many cuppas as you wish of your favorite hot beverage with the price of one *for the whole day* Suitable for all types of mini meetings starting from a meal for one. Bathrooms available, has access to wheelchair and friendly staff to their customers.

It's a Wetherspoons. It's great if you like old men drinking pints at 9am on a weekday, talking complete nonsense, and thinking they own the joint. Pizza was decent and staff were nice. Best Wetherspoons toilets in the country.

Always enjoyed the Fish and Chip meal. Last three times has not been very good at all. The fish is getting a smaller portion and thinner. The chips are also being cut down as well. Every time I tell the staff, they will have a word with the chef. Not sure if they are reducing the meal if you eat after 2pm because it is cheaper. But the quality is not as good either. Will try again in about 3 months time to see if there is an improvement. Always enjoyed my visits here. Hope it improves.

We got drinks delivered that weren't ours and the manager came and had a word and made us pay for it as my friend had had a sip. Although the manager was nicer to us later on, it was still kinda humiliating.

Excellent value for money on food and drinks. Best part was not overrun by students and no quiz night on a Thursdaynaking for a quiet pint.

I arrived for breakfast and was given a warm welcome by the staff, the food was excellent, warm and cooked to perfection. I liked the bar and one of its standout features are the large picture windows making the place feel open, bright and airy. I'd definitely visit again if I'm in the area and it's well placed for the hotel I was starting in which was just around the corner.

This is my new regular! Everytime I come in here staff are so friendly and lovely. Expecially the lovely guy serving my drinks behind the bar. The food is nice and drinks and food are a great price. 10 out of 10. Would recommend. Plenty of tables and space. Great atmosphere. Happy day's.

Was cosy inside and everyone was polite. We ordered main meals. Thought a bit skimpy on the chips. And not all sauces available, usually a better selection. Our visit was only spoilt by a man constantly being horrible to his little boy,who was a lovely little soul, He was aggressive to him when he could pull himself away from his mobile. It really upset me. We would come again (Two oap's) but please let's have a few more chips please.x

Bought a Xmas dinner not very nice at all. I've got to say it was awful. On the upside the toilets were clean and tidy.

OMG WHAT A DREADFUL PLACE THIS WITH DIRE FOOD ON THE MENU Lets start with the brain dead girl behind the bar. Ordered Panini x 2 with Tuna , Mayo and Cheese Arrived in a timely manner but hardly no cheese or mayo inside . Tasteless and awful. The forks were dirty and Sauce bottle all three of them empty. You know when a place is at the bottom of the pan when the condiments are sachet packets which just remind of a burger joint. The chips were ok but how can a chef mess them up. If Gorden Ramsey paid them a visit he would simply shut them down. JDW may serve cheap beer etc but the food quality is dreadful incl breakfasts , ideal for truckers or folk that have never seen a free range egg to a quality sausage. That reminds me of the awful breakfast at the the weatherspoons by Gabalfa. Never again will I have breakfast lunch or Dinner in these pubs as they have no idea. Suggest spending the same amount at the Fino lounge.

Standard wetherspoons grub, wasn't terrible but got the order wrong, then took wildly varying amounts of time for all our meals to come out. Both hot drinks machines were out of hot chocolate powder which again took time to sort. It was uncomfortably hot inside here too.

My favourite Spoons and favourite local. Affordable, lovely staff and had that quiet pub vibe where it's hushed but still has that buzz

Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Been my local pub for many years. Most of staff are friendly, especially Luke! Who is absolutely lovely and goes putnof his way for customers!!

I appreciate that some pubs are short staffed, but there is no excuse for rudeness or ignorance from staff. I paid for my order, and waited for the final drink, but the bartender did not return, I asked the manager for help. There was no sorry about that etc, just a did you ask for that drink ??, I was given a mug to help myself, only to then be told by the same manager, that you MUST now pay for it ,99p. Again no apology , we just want your money. Do these so called managers ever get any customer service training, as this manager would not last a day in my company. I am happy to pay for whatever I ask for, but do not treat me as if I was trying pull as fast one. I'll never visit this pub again, and I'll be sharing my experience with the 900 plus staff that I work with. Well done to Witherspoons.

Waiters / bar staff / front of house staff very helpful and friendly! But as a regular customer I was disappointed by kitchen / chef tonight. Ordered a burger meal which came out completely black on one side. I tried a bite then politely asked for a new burger - the rest of the meal was fine. The chef sent the poor waiter back out to tell me thats how burgers are cooked - burned - but I could have a panini instead? Not even offered a chicken burger or vegan burger in its place? Terrible service, chef needs to be spoken to. Everyone messes up when cooking now and again, so all I wanted was a burger that didn't taste like charcoal, and if the chef can't accommodate that then he might not be in the right job! Besides that the rest of the staff were awesome

Disability - positive - accessible from entrance to toilets to garden 👌 but don't expect the bar to be accessible or have app advertised for sales Mens toilets - tiles broken, dirty, faulty urinals, not what they were pre covid Ladies toilets - on the surface you think wow but in actual fact there is blood on the walls of the cubicle, broken tissue dispensers, toilet paper on the floor, maintenance hatches open and the ladies toilet door propped open so the whole restaurant can see into the lavatory. Seating area - disappointing.. pre-covid this was always well maintained but now tables are dirty with food leftovers/sticky so I would imagine not particularly covid safe. Main area/bar area - dirty, unkempt. Tissue on the floor in several places, no tidy tables, no table stands for menus, sticky Overall opinion- much improvement needed

Our hearty breakfast was tasty enough, it could've been hotter but I think it was because the plates weren't warmed rather than the food itself.

Nice friendly staff and good value for money, my favourite wetherspoons in Cardiff!

Good food reasonably priced. (Small update. Why is the young lady with the pony tale behind the bar so consistently rude and ignorant?? No please, thank you and in months of visits and never seen a smile ever. Ridiculously rude. Really lets the rest of the great staff down). Quite a nice pub in a central location. Pretty quick service even when busy. Majority of staff are polite and friendly. Visit egularly.

A small Wetherspoon's that's quite cosy with a rear outdoor terrace. I had a real ale: Jemma's Pitchfork which was okay, but left a funny aftertaste and a half of Shipyard. Not my favourite JDW in Cardiff, though

Always have a good afternoon evening here for a girly day. Nice food and great ambience to enjoy the sun in the beer garden or enjoy the indoors people watching. Good service always.

Standard spacious WS bar but all ground level and only a few steps to the toilets lol. Usual food and drinks with a small beer garden to the rear with a car park. Close to city centre and local restaurants aplenty.

I love a spoons, it's reliable cheap and familiar. The Ernest Willows is one of the nicer spoons in South Wales and has wonderfully designed toilets and a nice outdoor seating.

Enjoyed my evening meal and cold pint here. Went back the next morning (08/09/22) for breakfast about one minute after 8, but all shut!

  • 4/5 Charlie M. 1 year ago on Google
Somewhere in Cardiff not plagued by students! Perhaps the nicest and quietest Wetherspoon in Cardiff, don't be put off by it's flat roof. While it's exterior architecture is nothing to write home about, the interior of the Ernest Willows is stunning, perhaps more so than the local Prince of Wales. The toilets look like something out of a Roman Spa. Staff are really friendly in here, and there's a very cozy local feel to this pub. Standard Wetherspoon food and drink otherwise.
