I would firstly like to say that my wife and I have very high standards. My wife and I have passed this pub/restaurant a few times on our travels (we live in Bristol) and on each occasion we've said we'll have to try it out. Today is the day we did just that and we were not disappointed. We were greeted at the door and shown to a table. We were then given a menu and asked if we would like drinks to carry on with. We gave our drinks order to a staff member called Sarah. Three minutes later she came back with our drinks order and took our lunch order. Within five minutes our food was in front of us piping hot. Sarah made us feel like nothing was to much trouble and we were chatting along as if we were friends. Everything about this pub/restaurant, the drink, the food and the staff are in my opinion all top notch. It goes without saying, we will definitely be back. We'll done. 03.10.21. *** Well we've been back on 3 more occasions and unfortunately it's been nowhere near like the first time. The staff were different (they may have been there the first time around, but we didn't see them) and it felt like that everything was to much trouble, unlike the first time we went. Our dinner was only warm and we weren't even asked if everything was ok with our meals (both unlike the first time we were here). On one occasion I asked for some tomato sauce but it never arrived. It's the little things that made us go back again, but now it's the little things that are telling us not to go back again. As I said in my review, "we have high standards". Unfortunately those standards weren't met on the next 3 occasions. From 5 stars, unfortunately down to a very generous 3 stars.

As I came in I waited at the booking station - which is stupidly right by the doorway and not enough room for people to queue and to walk in and out. I was stood there waiting and no one came, so I approached the bar. After waiting in the queue, I said hello I have a booking, he told me to go wait by the door, I said I have been waiting there and explained there was no one there, he said well there should be. I walked back over to the door and waited, the lady came over, didn’t even greet us or say I’ll be with you in a moment, just went on the computer for a few minutes and went I’ll be back and walked off. She then came back and said have you got a booking, I said yes and gave my name, she then prompted me to a table and told me I could order online. I wrote on the notes for a high chair to be supplied for the baby, I had to get the high chair myself that was dirty, covered in food, grease and dirty finger marks. I had to sanitise and wipe it down myself. The table was also sticky. As I went to order online, I couldn’t select a sauce as it was out of stock and I couldn’t proceed without clicking a sauce, so I had to go to the bar. After waiting at the bar I was served, I put my arm on the bar and my jumper was soaked, there is nothing worse than a wet bar, the entire bar was soaked. When food arrived, the chips were freezing cold and the burgers were black from being severely burnt, the bun was like a rock, could barely cut through it it was that hard. The only nice part was the side of garlic bread. No one came around to ask if our meal was okay - even though we could hear other tables being asked. Overall, a very disappointed experience from start to finish with service, to hygiene to food, and I will not be returning. After spending over £30 on a meal that wasn’t even edible, sat on a sticky table that we had to wait for, a disgustingly dirty high chair, jumper soaked in wet from the bar, a silly online service that doesn’t even work, and not asked if the food was okay due to ignorant and rude staff. Something needs to be done here, I thought this was a reputable pub, this is why I come here. But sadly my Sunday has been ruined. We are still hungry and angry with our visit. Would NOT recommend and WILL NOT be returning.

Catering for a large party of 14, when another large party was due in, the customer service was excellent. Food ordered separately at the bar and all came out together for the whole table. Food was very good and affordably priced. Thank you for making us all feel welcome.

I ordered the Lamb steak, it definitely was not a steak, it was all bone with very little meat on, it was dreadful, it was chewy and grizzly. I mentioned it to the waitress and she said that she’d let the chef know. When I asked what they were going to do about it, she said that they’d report it to Marstons! This does not help me, I paid in full for my meal, my friends and I have always been loyal customers. I will be reluctant to eat there again and definitely will not recommend it to my friends. Once again I must say that I am appalled at the way I have been treated, and that my complaint was ignored. I sent them an email and they have not had the decency to respond.

Staff and manager are great there lately I’m deaf and the manager lowered her mask so I could hear. Words can state what this means lately. Friendly prompt service from people who care and decent food and prices. ~ thank you

My partner booked us a table for a valentines surprise and what a disappointment . Most tables were decorated for the occasion with red table cloths and a rose in a vase ours had nuthing just a bare table Not only this it took them over 25-30mins to come to take our order after telling us it was table service and to stay at the table even though the place was quiet. And When food eventually arrived both meals were missing onions rings and tomatoes not to sound petty but they could of at least apologised or stated before serving but never. Then after food when ready to order desserts we find out we wasn't even given the valentine menu on arrival and nor did we get the glass of fizz As stated for the occasion. What a shambles . Won't be eating there again was very disappointed

Myself and my husband decided to pop in for a quick lunch at midday on a Monday. We were told that no walk ins. Granted it was a day after the whole of the UK went into covid fear after 1 person died from Covid but the restaurant was empty. We asked if we could book on via our our phones for a table and we're abruptly told no walk ins before she went back to chatting on her phone. Never again.

We were staying in a B&B not far from this pub. I was tired and just wanted something nice and filling, this was the spot. I had booked a table for myself and my daughter. The service was good and the food for good too. We didn't wait to long for our food. They did forget to put cheese on the nachos and forgot to take the bacon off the burger. Everything was sorted, as soon as I asked. It was clean and nice.

Went to the Wednesday curry night - very good value and the curry was delicious. Been to the Ty Nant before. - our waitress Ellie was absolutely lovely. Very friendly, attentive and can’t do enough for you. She’s is a real asset.

Lovely local pub with super helpful and friendly particularly Ellie. The food was good and a nice selection of drinks. I enjoyed the Cheein Blanc

Yesterday was the first time I visited. We had a group lunch booking and everyone was ordering and paying individually. Most of us ordered and paid via QR and it was easy enough. The food was delivered quite quickly and was pleasant. When we left, we saw that the place was completely full, so well done to the team there for their organisational skills. I'll definitely go back and try more items from their menu.

Always a great visit. Alex greeted us as we arrived and showed a to our table and was very happy and professional . Accommodated our party of 9 fabulously for Sunday dinner. Every meal was fantastic and served in great time. Friendly and helpful staff. Will definitely be back for drinks and meals in the near future

Basic pub grub. Chicken and bacon salad needs a decent dressing not just a splash of cheap olive oil. We were told after placing this review there was salad dressings available but it would have been nice to have been offered it. Good selection of beers. Friendly staff

Great friendly pub. We stopped here for some dinner after a day of mountain biking. They have a large selection of meals available on the menu, decent size portions at reasonable prices. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Lovely pub. Terrible food, Table of 4 booked for a Saturday evening, we had items missing from our plates, overcooked food, undercooked food and cold sides dishes. Didn't come back any better after being returned to the kitchen. Only giving 2 stars as one for the decor/ambience and one for the lovely waiter who I felt very sorry for having to serve the awful food and put up with very unhappy customers.

Staff very friendly and accommodating. Food was served quickly and tasted good, it's basic pub grub but they've got it right. There was plenty of seats on a weekday lunch time and lots of room in car park. Would reccomend this pub.

Fast service, great menu, healthy options and helpful calories display in menu, friendly staff we were attentive but not annoying. Pub was busy enough without being too busy and had a great atmosphere. Lovely food for reasonable prices and a smile. What more could you want?

This was an excellent meal. While the food was very good, most was also mild tasting. I had the mixed grill: the chicken was done well, it was moist and not dry (hugely important). The seasoning was mild, and while tasty was not overly unique... but it was tasty. Just a pinch of extra seasoning, and it was excellent. The Lincolnshire sausages were very very tasty. They are mild sausages with a wonderful flavor. I had never eaten gammon before, and it was excellent. Full of flavor, a bit smoky tasting, and very moist. The steak tasted good, I prefer just a bit more seasoning. It was juicy. The lasagna was creamy and flavorful, but again, somewhat mild. We polished off the sticky toffee pudding down to the last morsel. The price for what you get is exceptional and the staff were very friendly. I would certainly recommend this, but just be aware, if you like very strong flavors, you may be be dissapointed. If your preference leans towards a more mild flavor, you will find this excellent. It was all good enough, that while we were still in town... we went back... awesome staff and food. The burger was flavorful and moist... very well worth it. The steak and ale was very tasty as well.

Had a mixed grill, gammon and onion rings were very nice. As for the rest 🤷. Steak was like rubber, chicken so dry it was like chalk..only one happy customer, my Spaniel 🥲

We have eaten the largest and best meal here after our visit to castell Coch!! The pub is huge, and ample parking space. We went with a kid and a kitten, so it is child-friendly and pet-friendly given multiple seating options. The food is excellent and the chocolate fudge cake is absolutely magnificent!

We had booked a table for 7.30pm. We had arrived slightly earlier but our table was all set up ready for us. We were seated and promptly asked if we wanted drinks. After deciding what to eat, 6 of our party went out to the play area. The lady brought the drinks over and said "this is a lot of drinks for 1 person " 😀 The waitress then took our food order and we didn't have to wait too long for food. All orders were as we had ordered and were all very tasty and good portions. Overall, a great experience. 👍

We were greeted with a smile and warmth of welcome. Our waitress’s were very pleasant and extremely friendly. They also went out of their way to ensure we were satisfied customers. The meal was very nice indeed, good value for money. We shall be visiting again. I give my overall experience a ***** rating

Excellent customer service from the waitress, drinks and food came within a great time as we were a table of 11. Food was amazing and hot throughout the whole duration of eating can’t fault anything at all. :) will be coming back thank you

Firstly we were greeted by a lovely friendly young woman at the bar who was polite and helpful. Our food was absolutely superb, my Mum who is extremely fussy said her fish & chips was the best she has ever had! I had a jacket pocket with prawns which was superb and the side salad which I would normally leave looked so eye catching I had to try it and I must say it was delicious. I cannot wait to visit again especially as it’s dog friendly.

Came here the night before attending a wedding at Canada Lodge & Lake. It was close by so suited us nicely, the food was lovely and portion sizes were generous. I had the Mac & Cheese (with popcorn chicken) and followed with the Raspberry Cheesecake - both were delicious. You can order on the app and have it brought to your table, service was a little slow but it was busy.

The restaurant was decorated beautifully with Christmas ornaments and the staff were really friendly and that made all the difference. We could still order at the bar instead of on an app without having any interaction which we also liked. Food was amazing and we all enjoyed it. We will be coming again.

A lovely pub which is very welcoming to young families. Our waitress, Ellie, was excellent with our children and really attentive. Easy to book online via their website- good selection of food. Lovely options for children’s menu. Generous portion sizes in adults meal. Loved the fries 😎

Staff were friendly and helpful . However paying over £40 for a family meal that was reheated in a microwave is not acceptable . Mashed potato was instant and had been heated so much that it was chewy . Kids cheese burger came out without any cheese , to which the waitress said that it was under the bun .. (smallest piece of melted cheese barely visible) . Nothing against the establishment what so ever and again the staff were friendly , however the establishment needs to up its game on food and consider cooking fresh . Avoid at all costs

Great, filling food! Attentive land lady and most welcoming. Dog friendly with a water bowl and a barrel of water provided. Lovely garden seating. Opposite a very busy garden centre. Gardeners rejoice.

Had the gammon steak and my meal was exactly as described my only critique would be the choice of what looked like tinned peas which looked rather pale compared to frozen or fresh peas.

Good hearty food, good service and lots of space in this rustic pub that I believe has been around for hundreds of years. Good children’s menu, with pictures for them to colour in whilst waiting for food Nice location, and really big beer garden too. Loads of parking also.

We went on a nice warm evening and there were far more people outside than in. There is a decent size garden. Our waitress was friendly and talkative. The food was good with a fairly large portion. Toilets were clean. All serving staff wore masks and tables were cleaned between customers.

Nice, quiet restaurant overall. Staff were helpful and food was cooked quickly, chips were delicious though the fish I had was chewy and slimy and not very well cooked (couldn't cut without quite a bit of effort). Would eat here again just not order the fish and chips.

Brilliant pub! Great selection of beers (Hobgoblin IPA on tap plus all the Brains selection). Food was excellent & well priced. Loads of parking. Just off the A470 so very convenient. Opposite a popular garden centre which meant we visited both. Highly recommend.

Arrived for Sunday lunch and all seemed ok until we sat down. We were positioned in the busiest part of the restaurant surrounded by kids running through the building, using the emergency exit to get to the kids play area. No fault of the kids but the management of the facility should advise customers that the emergency exit is what it says it’s for and not an alternative method of coming in and out all the time. Either that or alarm the door like most exits If they are used. A number of times the same staff member had to keep closing it or customers had to because the draft was running through the room making it fairly unpleasant to eat in. The service was ok. I felt sorry for the lady who served us as she was not well supported by other staff. They were either short or the other staff didn’t wish to help… I believe the latter as the attitude on them wasn’t particularly friendly either. The food was, I’m afraid to say very average. Seemed like the meat was the only fresh thing on our plate. Veg turned up watery, reheated and very bland. Portions were fine however. A huge shame overall as the pub is my local but the standards have massively dropped since they’ve re opened after the pandemic.

Visited with my son for Mother's Day. He had a beef brisket roast lunch which he thoroughly enjoyed. I had a curry. It was very tasty but I did feel as though it had been warmed up, more than once, as it was very dry. Having said that, I would visit again as I have been in the past and thoroughly enjoyed my food.

After going here for the best part of 30 years, I will never step foot in there again. Booked a table last night for 9pm online, we were told we can have the table from 9pm until 10.30pm. After arriving at 8.40pm, were greeted by what must be the landlady by her coming from behind the bar and stopping us approaching the bar with hands on her hips asking 'Can I help you', I replied that we have a table booked. She stormed off to the PC to try what seems to deny that I did, Ive never felt so uncomfortable. She seemed devastated that I was correct, we were then told well the kitchen closes in 10 minutes meaning 8.50pm despite our table was accepted and booked for 9pm. She then went to place us in the corner of the pub while passing lots of empty tables, we didn't follow her we just chose a table closer to the kitchen by putting our coats there. So we went to the bar to order a drink, but was greeted again with the most sarcastic smile possible whilst telling me I need to order our food NOW before any drinks were poured, her staff were looking on in bewilderment. We'd not even sat down never mind looked at the menu, even her own staff was looking at her with wide eyes, they seemed to be very scared of her. I explained we hadn't even seen a menu she just shrugged her shoulders, we didn't order anything and walked out. I did hear her mutter something under her breath as we did, but thankfully I didn't bite. Went for a nice Itailian in the end however; this is not what you expect especially after making a booking. Knowing fully well she will respond on here to this and I cannot comment any further. You should be ashamed of yourself! No doubt you will tell people I was late or disrespectful to try and justify your actions! Absolutely shameful. Avoid at all costs

It's a Brains pub so expect the food to be quick and cheerful. The prices are great and the quality is ok for the price. The service is pretty quick and the staff are friendly. Plenty of parking but the spaces are not the widest. I had a note on my windscreen with some sarcastic comment about using a tin opener to get in their car. I actually made the point of re positioning my car because we had kids to take out of both sides of my car but clearly they needed even more room for their range Rover. I ordered a brownie for a desert. Wow that was way too big. They actually make it and serve in a frying pan. It's huge and even though it's nice, probably a bit too big. See image of how ridiculous it is :). Overall it's a nice pub with friendly staff. They ales are great and you get what you pay for. No thrills just pub grub at a good price.

Don’t call yourself a dog friendly pub and then not allow dogs into areas of the pub. Saw on line that it was a dog friendly pub when going for a family meal. Tried for over an hour to ring to confirm but just kept getting through to what I can only describe as a call centre type service. Was told to keep trying but couldn’t get though: took our well behaved dog only to be told he couldn’t come in with him to the area where we were seated.

We managed to get a table last minute today which was great. However our server who was lovely was very slow, we ordered drinks on arriving but had to chase several waiters for them. Once our food order was taken all was fine Nd our food arrived quite promptly. My son had a classic cheese burger and chips he's quite fussy but eat the lot and the burger was huge I had a salad which was really good, very fresh and lots of it husband had a fish finger sandwich with chips and loved it. Overall great value lovely place and the staff are welcoming, give it a try it's very good value for money

Hands down the best food I have had all week. All of London could take a lesson from this restaurant. Mind boggling delicious. We got the wrong dessert and even that was incredible!! Highly recommended. I'll travel all the way from Texas to eat here again

Service was very welcoming on arrival and good for the start of the meal. The pate we ordered took awhile to arrive (with the sourdough being substituted for French bread, without being advised of this) during which the main courses turned up, so we had to send them back to the kitchen. The Glamorgan sausages were very good. The pie crust was nice but the filling lacked substance and the gravy was tasty, but a little lumpy. We might have considered pudding but were not offered the opportunity to order this. On the plus side there were 5 real ales and all were well kept.

Really lovely meals tonight, we had fish and chips, vegan burger and two big brains burgers. All came quickly, piping hot and plenty of it - and very well priced. Lovely staff on both the bar and serving food. Makes a massive difference compared to similar establishments in the area, we will certainly be back again. Thank you!
