The first time I had ever took a trip to the UK was a weeks trip to Cardiff. I traveled from Texas. Everywhere I went, I had to get something local. And my visit to the Duke of Wellington was no different. I had met a friend at the time and his family for a pint. I can get almost any beer in the states, But I wanted something local. So of course I had to have a Brains. It was good and quickly became one of my favorites. Sadly I can't find it here in the states (Texas). But the pub was brilliant and the building was beautiful. Not to mention the people were so nice and accommodating. Hopefully someday I can return. If I am able, the Duke of Wellington will be on the top of my list of return visits. If you've never been, I highly recommend it.

This is by far my favourite pub in Cardiff will always call in here on a visit to the city. However sad to see that a week before match day with the rugby a pint of Guinness is £5 but when I went there day of the Wales v NZ game they were charging £5.35. Went back there the following week it was back to £5. Totally profiteering on match days. Come on £5 is more than enough...

Busy pub in the city centre. Barmaid was very friendly. Good atmosphere, not much seating. Guinness was a 6.5/10

Decent food at a reasonable price. My partner and I each had steak baguettes which were loaded with cheese and a delicious onion chutney, plus chips on the side. The actual baguettes were spot on, perfectly crunchy, crusty exterior giving way to soft, fluffy bread underneath with a nice, fresh flavour. The steak was unfortunately a tad tough - we had ordered it medium rare and it was more like well done. Cheese and onion chutney were both wonderful though, and the chips were top tier. Wonderfully crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, and tasted great. We also had long Island iced teas, which were proper delicious! Pros: reasonable prices, quality ingredients and well presented, tasty food. Cons: tough steak that was more done than requested, and every single table outside (where we sat) was SUPER wobbly, to the point we almost didn't eat here. Like, the joins where the legs are attached feel mega loose, like the table might collapse. I stress this point because it's the most glaring issue in an otherwise really nice place!

Wow. After seeing all the 4-5 star reviews, this was easily the most disappointing drinking/dining experience I’ve had in a long time. Wine was below average, service was slow, and food was sad. New management? Sunday night? Regardless, a big disappointment.

Male toilet needs proper locks, after all, men wee in ones and can prop the door closed, the staff we great and the beer was not watered down, beware of the tall chairs, mine was broken and the seat was loose, 4 for these reasons

A very relaxed city pub with excellent service for a light lunch during shopping and Brain's beer.

We called in for a drink. However the menu was good and lots of people eating, the food we saw looked very good. Toilets were spotlessly clean. Watch the water pressure though I nearly lost my fingers 🤣 staff were happy and friendly. Love it here ❤️

Food poisoning alert. Yesterday my 3 year old and myself (7 months pregnant) ate the apple pie and been vomiting all night. I don’t know if it’s a one time incident but clearly not the cleanest of places. Also the boiling hot plate was served to my toddler son without telling us it was hot. Hope we’ll get better soon, definitely won’t be eating there again.

Great location and nice staff, food is standard mass production pub food but tasty enough. Bit on the pricey side but guess you are paying for the location. I would be happy to go back again.

One single vodka and lemonade £ 6. 20 ... What a disgrace for a pub with hardly anyone in , no atmosphere , the poor barmaids have to take the flak off very very disgruntled customers . Will not set my feet over the threshold of any of your premises again . Will also inform my many friends !!! 😡😠🤬👿

A decent pub in Cardiff. Choice of real ales. We had a drink there before going to see a band in St. David's Hall. It was shut at 10.30 when we returned after the show.

Lovely pub. Good beer. Always our first stop when we arrive! Toilets/facilities weren't great though. No paper, loo flush broken and no handwash.

Great atmosphere and very friendly staff. The outside area is great and catches the sun all day! We opted for some small plates for the food which were very yummy and came out in ample time!

What a cracking city pub. Really welcoming friendly staff. Tasty beer and good food. Standard pub grub, but well cooked, nicely presented and full of flavour. Seating area was clean & tidy. Top marks from me. See you again on my next trip up.

Good friendly service. A pleasant atmosphere, and a really nice cold pint. Lovely sat outside in the sunshine, staff continually clearing glasses and litter with a positive attitude. Would recommend.

The portions are huge! I had the fish and chips and the breading was really good. I also really liked the fries, they are a very thick cut that goes well with the fish. The staff were very friendly as well!
