An amazing little find, and highly recommend. Probably the best Sunday lunch I've had in a very long time. Food, Tri Meat Sunday dinner / Sirloin Beef Sunday Dinner. Side of cauliflower cheese and stuffing: Dinners: it was delicious, every bite. Nothing was done incorrectly. The meat was soft and tender, the beef was cooked perfectly. The roast potato's crunchy, the veg lovely, Yorkshire pudding was airy a good size, stuffing with bacon wrapped around them were delicious. You get a small pot of gravy, which was plenty. We did ask for more, and it came instantly. Mint sauce tasted home made, which I didn't expect. A weirdly odd thing which I loved how was the veg came in a separate dish on the plate, so you could share with someone or chose what you wanted from the fish. I feel this place nailed everything! And for the price, you couldn't ask for me. We paid £54; 2 dinners, 2 sides, and 2 drinks. And considering the size and quality, I would easily pay that again and again. Service: Polite staff, who all looked incredibly professional. We never waited long for anything, that includes our dinners. We were never rushed and felt we ordered at our own pace. Atmosphere: Absolutely gorgeous, from the low beam ceiling, to the firepits placed around. There was a lovely couple with a baby in a high seat, and I felt the atmosphere was so relaxed and call. Bravo to the staff, chefs and owner for making an incredibly venue.

What an absolute shambles. King prawn starter (apparently) straight out of an Iceland bag of prawns under cold water. Flavourless, pale and soggy. Lettuce was brown around some edges and the Marie sauce was so bland. Best thing about the starter was the added salt. The main, belly pork and scallops. Belly pork was overdone and chewy, scallops were over done and awfully rubbery. Jus was OK and the veg was a soggy mess. £7.25 for the starter and £19.95 for the main. Yes £7.25 for a bag of prawns from Iceland and brown lettuce. Absolute joke. Yuk and never again.

It was good, prices not bad. Service recommended. One needs to book prior visit. Plenty of parking with accessibility to all. Bathrooms available. Wish they could improve on birthday candles. Overall, I recommend Travellers Rest to everyone as menu is also accommodative.

A beautiful "old world" Inn high up on a mountain above Cardiff that offers comfortable surroundings, excellent food, a wide selection of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks, all of which are served by attentive and very friendly staff. There's ample parking and outdoor dining is available, weather permitting. I noticed on our visit that they are a dog friendly establishment too. Highly recommended!

Never visited this place before, watch the low ceiling! Wonderful food and drink, and just look at this desert, artistically presented and delicious. I can see why this venue has stood the test of time.

Came here for dinner earlier on in the week. Had table service from such a lovely member of staff (I wish I knew your name so I could include it in this review, but you were very understanding of my pregnancy chocolate craving!!). Starters and mains were excellent, my partner enjoyed his wine and I had the house cherry soda which was gorgeous and definitely recommend to anyone who can’t drink alcohol, so refreshing. Only downfall was the scallops cost £4 extra onto the Pork Belly main but they are quite small and you are not given many. Despite that, have been going to the Travellers Rest for many years and the food has really improved. Setting is lovely, staff are great even when busy. Thank you we will be back soon!!

Popped in for a lunch with the family on Friday afternoon. We had main courses and dessert. It's part of the Vintage Inn chain, and very similar to others in the group (The Dragonfly, The Old Cottage). Food was great - lots of choice, good portions, very tasty, nicely presented. Service was very good - the gentleman who served us was very friendly and good with the kids. The building is an old thatched-roof country inn with what looks like an original section (low ceilings and wooden beams) and more modern areas. It has a traditional feel and is comfortable and cosy (but with plenty of space). It's got a bit of wear, but don't we all! Will definitely be returning!

My Dad lives locally and my daughter and I took him out for dinner. We were going to stay in Rhiwbina but last min decided to head up to the Travellers. Very pleased we did. I haven’t been there to eat for a while and the three of us all really enjoyed our meals. The slow cooked pork belly was excellent. Price was reasonable, service was excellent and car parking made it easier for Dad to get into the pub.

Lovely staff who are welcoming and friendly each visit, the food is delicious, my partner and I both had roasts which had plenty of food and our starters were just as nice. It didn’t take long for our food to arrive and the venue itself gives a cosy atmosphere. Location is set in the mountains and overall a really lovely place. Will continue to keep dining here, perfect venue for occasions in particular.

Came for lunch as had friends visiting (with a baby). Made very very welcome, excellent visit throughout (as always - we regularly visit travellers rest and have always had a brilliant experience here). Served by a regular member of staff who has always been on duty when we've visited, and is always fantastic! - (sorry I don't know his name but he has had some sort of knee injury recently I think but that clearly doesn't stop him being an absolute legend of a server). Food, as always, marvellous (one of our friends is actually a chef for a large national catering firm and was really impressed - his only criticism is that he wanted more of everything!)

Lovely pub. Lots of outdoor and indoor seating. The menu is available all day and a very diverse choice. We had the burger and lasagna. Both very tasty. Staff very friendly and reasonably priced.

First visit for a while with family of 7. Waited ages to be served. Ordered sea bass which was like a wafer but to be fair got me another but had to eat on my own. The burger was lovely but the 5 cooked dinners were disappointing. As we dined at 4 appeared to have pre packed roasties which were tangy, Yorkshire were cheap frozen ones, carrot was ok but other veg was hard. Very disappointing and won’t be going back.

Nice looking pub, nice inside. My partner tried to order a cocktail when we arrived only to be told 'we don't do that' when asked what did he mean he response was 'we don't do that'. No explanation as to why not just very blunt. Left my partner feeling stupid as if she asked for something out of the ordinary. If you don't do it then get it off the menu! Very rude! The chicken pie was all puff pastry barely any filling. I ordered the hunters chicken schnitzel which tasted nice to be fair but the meal overall was small in size for the price had to order a side salad to go with it as it came with literally 2 leaves. The mains were a little bit overpriced for what they were especially the schnitzel at nearly £16 and came with a few chips. I was going to order the curry but I seen it was £17 which is unbelievable for chicken curry and rice!! The desserts were really nice though. I wouldn't come here again as I don't believe it's good value for your money. We came as a group of 6 but for my partner an myself our food came to £80. She had 2 cocktails 2 for £12 I had water. No starters. 2 mains and a dessert each, banoffee pie and a modern take on a black forest gateaux which was brilliant i loved that. And a garlic bread which is not on the menu.

Very nice and cozy place for a coffee or food. We had Sunday roast and the vegetarian option was very nice. The staff is really lovely and attentive. We booked online which is very easy and they gave us a very nice table close to the fireplace. I will come back sometime.

Gorgeous building, friendly staff and amazing food. Really enjoyed coming here for dinner. Pictured is the raspberry house soda, beef dripping sandwich, strawberry Bellini trifle and double chocolate brownie. Very ‘posh’ but at a reasonable price! Was also nice to be able to take the dog with us. Looking forward to our next visit!

Highly recommend this place to everyone! Me and my parter called in on the off chance there would be availability, the gentleman did mention they were booked up but managed to squeeze us in thank goodness! We had a starter each, a main, 2 rounds of drinks and desserts (which we had to take away because we were so stuffed) all for under £80. The food was absolutely delicious and all came within perfect timing considering how busy they were! We will definitely be back!

It's been a long time since I've been here, so glad I had the opportunity to visit again. If you go on a Sunday, the Sunday Trio Roast is a must, we'll cooked silverside beef, crispy belly pork joint and turkey, along with glazed roast carrots, parsnips, potatoes, runner beans and broccoli. If you like a generous portions size, then this is a must. Will definitely be going back very soon

Lovely olde style eatery and bar, caters well for foodies and folk with a larger wallet than the usual pub grub, I recommend the prawn starter and the pork belly!!!

Staff went above and beyond to make our visit extra special, every member of staff took interest in our reason for visiting and made a fuss of our baby, she loved it and so did we! The atmosphere, decor, food and drinks were incredible! Easy to park and had a lovely old pub feel with tasteful Christmas decorations, Have already recommended to family and friends, we will definitely be returning! Thank you all so much!

Rustic pub restaurant located halfway between Cardiff and Caerphilly. Spacious car park. Outdoor seating area. Wheelchair accessible. Dog friendly. Serves food all day 7 days a week. We ordered Sunday Roast in the early evening, which is not available in many other pubs at that time. Definitely a good value for money, and the portions are not lacking. On this basis alone, the establishment is highly recommended.

Had the roast turkey and pork belly mid afternoon today. Excellent meat but rest of the food was mediocre with barely warm carrots, broccoli and gravy, and overcooked roast potatoes. Added extra of cauliflower cheese was tasty and piping hot. All meals missing items (roasted apple with the pork) (pig in blanket and cranberry sauce with the turkey). Condiments were not offered and we found our own. All in all disappointed for the price paid. Despite asking for a pen for the child to do the activity page on reverse of the menu, it never arrived.

Beautiful atmosphere, large open fire and dog friendly. Plenty of beer on tap, including local ale. Menu is packed with choices to suit all the family. Outside dining, ample parking available. And a warm and friendly welcome awaiting 😊

Absolutely amazing food, great selection of food too with great service from staff, who are very friendly. Highly recommend this place. It's beautiful both outside and inside with log fires which makes it really homely. Thankyou for a lovely experience! Will definitely be coming back soon.

5 star prices but food is poor. 3 diners and we all had different and none of us felt it was value for money or good quality. No covid checks or restrictions in place. Very disappointed. Ivy prices but burger king quality

Lovely position on the mountain, food is pretty good - Sunday lunch is ace - prawn cocktail starter was an 'odd' take on an old classic. Staff very good and attentive. Outside tables get afternoon sun. We spent a really enjoyable Sunday afternoon there with the family.

New menu! , staff very attentive and service excellent. As walk in, early Saturday evening not crowded, though the pub started to fill up as when we were leaving. We've enjoyed the experience

Great time. Really enjoyed the drinks, meal and ambience. Staff were very attentive and friendly too. Nice to see a lovely choice of non alcoholic drinks too. Would be nice if drink mats were given out without the need to ask as we ended up with pools of water under our glasses and had to watch we didn't get drips on our clothes. Waiter brought drink mats on request.

Fish and chips nothing to rave about. It is an unique cosy setting. Lovely fire. Some strange signage about like telling us to wash our hands after being in the toilet and another sign to tell that there are steps in front of the steps!!

It’s the first visit to your restaurant. Several friends had recommended it to me. I was not disappointed. The food was tasty the drinks were served efficiently and the staff were warm welcoming and very friendly. Also the prices were reasonable. We will definitely be visiting again . Great night out

We had a lovely waitress that delivered everything with a smile. It was very busy being Father’s Day, but we didn’t have to wait long for each part o f our 3 course meal. I don’t think it could be better.
