2022 update Still 4 stars. Breakfast this time. Delicious but 45 minute wait which we didn't mind as food was lovely. Loo's not as fresh like last time. Excellent price. No WiFi so download the app before you go. 2018 Cheap, cheerful and variety menu. Had a friendly welcome tonight and thoroughly enjoyed the food. Would have given 5 star but disabled facilities awkward and could be fresher. Will be back.

Lovely outside deploring inside! Let to degrade! I took pictures just with the filthy toilets doors as I didn’t dare to get closer to the kitchen or bar backsides! What a pity! I’m indulgent with business that are trying as the economy it is as it is but dirt is not an excuse for poverty or poorer pockets ( sorry about my direct thoughts but that’s expressing the impression the experience) I refused to eat here or drink. Sad!

Food has taken a nose dive. Ribs were cremated, chicken and gammon again over cooked. Stake was lovely, cooked well. My wife had a meal that looked like something you'd have thrown together if it was the evening before a big shop. Kids meals were fab, and the older 2 enjoyed their chicken burgers. The app is difficult to use if you're ordering from outside. The outdoor area is fab, but needs a good clean, it was filthy. I love this pub, but today I was left unsatisfied. This needs fixing, especially if you're charging +£4 a pint. That premium rates for a mediocre location, attention to detail is important for the asking price. Staff are lovely and polite, let's not forget that. Also I don't like the tip in app function, I always feel that 100% of the tip doesn't make it to the staff. If I'm wrong I'm wrong, but I get that feeling.

Brilliant pub with great food. Very busy when we went but still didn't have to wait too long! Would definitely return. Although we didn't use, the beer garden was big and lovely.

It was fairly quiet while we were there. We only ordered 2 meals but they took almost 55 minutes to come out and when they did the Steak/chicken combo was missing the chicken 🙄 however this was dealt with swiftly. The Caribbean chicken skewers were lovely and I would definitely chose them again. Think we will give this place another try in the hope that the long waiting time was a one off

My friend and I visited with 2 children last week and we had a fabulous time. The kids loved running around the garden whilst we waited for food. All 4 meals were demolished. I had the mixed grill and really enjoyed it. I wish it wasn't so far away from my home because I'd be a regular.

Enjoyed a lovely family meal at the nine giants for Mother’s Day, service was excellent, staff were very accommodating & polite & the food was great. I have been coming here since I was a child & now have the pleasure of watching my own grandchildren playing in the fabulous beer garden that holds a lot of good memories for me!

Wasn't acknowledged for over 5 minutes even though it was quiet, staff behind bar not overly friendly, plaster coming off wall where we sat. Food was good but don't think I'd revisit

Recently went here to use a voucher I had as I'd given some negative feedback in June, what a complete turn around !! I had a fantastic visit. The atmosphere was welcoming and friendly the service was quick and efficient and the food was delicious and hot, all completely opposite of the previous visit. Definitely recommend the Nine Giants for a spacious and comfortable get together with quality food at great prices

We only stopped by for a quick drink. It was early and the bar was really quiet so can't give a true review. But our experience was good. Clean and tidy and bar staff were friendly.

A great informal place, the staff are really friendly and big thanks to the manager for being so friendly and helpful to our 96 year old mum. The food was fantastic, really tasty and great portion sizes. We'll be back.

Poor Staff attention due to a new member of bar staff not being shown what to do and how to do it. She ignored me and served 2 people who came in after I was at the bar. It seemed to me she would rather be doing a simple job like stacking shelves. Dinner was very nice but after paying for a curry with rice with a side of chips, chips arrived but no rice. Mine was a 14oz Gammon with pineapple and 2 fresh eggs. The meal came with no eggs not even a tomato but that, I forgive you. The server was brilliant, even offering to arrange rice but this had to be paid for as an extra. I refused, knowing you would be asking for my feed back. Yes I will come again but will be more assertive if I see a problem like these.

Food was fab quick and just really nice traditional pub food. It was just a bit busy for me and loud. But could not fault anything else. Think I was over charged but it was still worth every penny

Had a great evening out great atmosphere with helpful and knowledgeable staff contributed to make a perfect visit. Recommend the Clicking Hot Burger. Will return to try more of the menu.

Had the ultimate size meals as previous size meals had been a bit disappointing. Very good portions, enjoyed the food and overall visit. Also staff were very welcoming and helpful, there was a nice atmosphere and the beer garden is good and a good size.

We had a lovely time for my husband's 40th. I was able to come early and put up some decorations and have a cake stored which was great. Lovely area for the children to play too. Unfortunately the negative thing is that I asked when I came to put up the decorations if they could give the chalets a quick sweep as they were quite dirty and clean the tables but it wasn't done (it was very quiet there at this point). We also asked twice once we arrived and were told someone would come and do it but it wasn't done. Would have really expected at least for the tables to be wiped from the night before, especially as there were children eating there.

We really love this pub as it has so much potential with a lovely atmosphere and garden. We visit a lot, but the one improvement I'd love to see is the garden cleaned up. As we bring a toddler and there is a lot of cigarette ends and broken glass around the garden and it really detracts from our enjoyment.

We had brought along a large family, where we had booked tables in advance. When we arrived, we did have to wait for our tables to be set up for the family. Apart from that, their service was top tier, from the delivery of the food, to offering alternative options to unavailable deserts. The food was really good, I ordered the Surf & Turf, with the steak being medium rare. Very satisfying meal, and good value for the money. This pub is portrayed as a family friendly pub, however there was little in the way of outdoor kid-friendly play areas to keep the kids busy whilst the food was being prepared. Friendly atmosphere, but I get the impression that this is more a local watering hole as the afternoon turns into evening. This is a great place if you’re a small family (parents, 2 kids) but for three generations of family, be prepared to try and keep the kids distracted, charge up those tablets! Great place for great grub on the whole though!

We arrived at the venue and it was very busy inside trying to find a table was a problem as there wasn’t enough chairs for our party and no staff were available to help. Eventually found a table but it was pretty dirty again no staff member to clean so we cleaned it ourselves. Ordered food at the bar as it was more convenient for us to do this. Didn’t wait long to be served for our food. Food arrived which was fine. We run out of drinks so my partner went up to order us more drinks and he was waiting along time to be served even though the staff member saw him waiting at the bar to be served. Another person came to the bar and was served straight away even though he was waiting to be served.

Always loved the Nine Giants however the last twice I've visited I've not left happy. The food has gone down hill badly and sad to say overall a party of 10 left with no intention of returning. The starters we chose out of what was left available were not a hit. The batter on the mushrooms and cauliflower bites was vile, a soggy mess and tasted disgusting. The hunters chicken came thrown on a plate with not a scrap of salad garnish. The steaks were not the best and the onion rings again soggy. Onions all full of water. A lot of food was wasted.

We shared a wonderful day at the Nine Giants on Saturday 23rd December the lovely staff made our visit perfect I have to say in every way . They selected a cosy table we requested , served us promptly and with a genuine smile and went out of their way to seek and find a particular drink for one of our party . The food was served hot and in no time . We didn't feel rushed , the staff checked that our plates were all correct and that we were happy with everything . Considering it was so close to 🎄 and such a busy day they still had time for us . It was lovely .Thank-you looking forward to visiting again .

Brilliant pub for food, we had the loaded surf and turf and steak and chicken combo with an upgrade to a sirloin and they both were cooked to perfection. We were shown to our table straight away, service was brilliant quick service at the bar even though it was really busy and food service was on point to. Thank you to all the nine giants team we will definitely be returning soon.

Went for a birthday lunch today and I have to say that our food was lovely. Steak was cooked to perfection. Food was hot, didn’t feel rushed by staff. The staff were friendly and it was a lovely atmosphere. Will be visiting again.

Little gem of a pub. Friendly and helpful bar staff. Accessible ♿ toilet and nothing was any problem. It's a pity the glass washer wasn't working but it doesn't matter what clean glass you get as long as your beer is cold and refreshing. Food was good, especially with the 40% off 🙆

The food was(as usual) great and really good value for money, Adam and all the staff were attentive and very helpful and polite. One minor niggle though. We were seated in the back section near the kitchen. It was clear that this was a preferred area for families (mostly young children) therefore it was not very quiet with lots going on. No criticism of their general behaviour but my wife and I would rather have sat elsewhere.

Had a meal there for my birthday on the 19th December 23. They didn’t have 3 meals that we wanted. So 3 people chose the steak. It was just lumps of gristle. I took it home for my dogs . It wasn’t busy as it was 5.15 . We go here a lot at dinner time for a drink but definitely wouldn’t have a meal here again

Had a lovely meal on Friday evening. The jerk chicken skewers were beautiful. And what a bonus to join in the quiz hosted by Debbie who had served us at the bar too such a lovely lady . Will definitely return .

Very very traditional feeling British pub which is rather to my like a variety of different spaces within the nine Giants hotel which allows for very diverse and different groups of pub goers to be accommodated for the food is nice and nicely presented. the staff is polite and and and were in good humour when we were there. My big take away from the 1990s both are the outdoor seating areas which are plentiful well equipped and many of them are even sheltered by permanent rooms rather than the flimsy umbrellas. a very nice pub

Really good. Really nice food. It's been a long time since going. On this occasion, our drinks were somewhat 'off' - requested new fresh drinks but they were the same, very very watery (Pepsi and lemonade).

I booked a table for 6 last week this was for a birthday. One menu given for 6 of us then we ordered starters along with the main meals after approximately 25 minutes our meals arrived when we asked where we're the starters this we found out not put through. The steaks that were ordered we're all wrong and had sauces on the various steaks wrong one had to be returned as really fatty not like the rest were much better the Manager knew we had complained and this was done discreetly but he made sure to avoid us and that is what we shall do Avoid

Lovely service, especially at the bar when ordering. Even though the torpedo prawns were not as stated on the menu , the food was lovely.

Awful food! Tikka masala tasted like a jar I use at home but without the tarting up! Poppadoms were microwaved and burnt not deep fried. Staff were very friendly though! But I will not be going back!

I visited last Thursday afternoon. Food was good especially for the price. Although my order came out the kitchen wrong we had a lovely young lad serving us who fixed the issue straight away. The decor looks slightly dated but bar that a wonderful experience with excellent staff!

Called in on the off chance of having food, seated quite quickly but clearly a lot of confusion by staff members, table service is ok as we were told someone would be over to take our order, people arriving after us were served first, when questioned I was told I needed to use the App, great as it asks you to book a table first. Clearly this don't work. Drinks were served in children's glasses and I was charged for pints this was corrected. Very over priced, for what we were served on our plates. , £ 14. Nearly for a hand full of chips and a small steak. Nothing else won't be going back

Food is good value (ie cheap) but service is anything but cheerful. Also slow. Staff seem to resent being asked to provide menus, while one waiter made my elderly mother walk from the garden into the pub for some mayonnaise rather than get it for her.

  • 3/5 Ashley M. 1 year ago on Google
Great beer garden for families and friendly service . OK pub food, let down as usual by low quality chips which is standard for this kind of pub. I understand the economics of serving chips cooked from frozen catering packs, but it's really disappointing. A pub that serves hand peeled and cut chips, is a pub for life! Most disappointing was the beer. Really poor selection, comprised mostly of the usual high street faces, eg. Carling, Stella, Worthington, etc. Doom Bar on cask, which is deeply depressing.

There's alot to recommend about the food plenty of it good quality, reasonable price. The problem is half the things that were on the menu weren't available. we did come in 2 days after bank holiday which may be why they were out of stock but it was a bit annoying not to know what was and was not available. Lots of parking spaces and easy to get too which are both big pluses the only other thing is the beer selection nothing local just standard larger and strongbow and with so many other selections nowadays you'd think there would atleast be a decent cider or beer.

Had cajun chicken skewers very nice but very hot and wasn't expecting it, think you need to place a hotness chill to show how hot/spicy food is, wife couldn't eat it. So we swooped each other's food. Plus damp in ceiling should be sorted looks horrendous.

Fantastic service today.... staff were very busy but made time to chat with customers. Food was lovely and well priced. During our visit I saw a child on a different table spill there drink and get quite upset. The way the female employee handled it all was impressive she was quick to clean it up, calmed the child down with a friendly chat about dancing and got here a replacement drink. I think she was a manager as she was smartly dressed in non company clothing.

First of all the staff were very friendly and helpful, no complaints at all. Food and prices ok. The paintwork and walls were shabby. Entrance door very scuffed and untidy. Plaster peeling off walls in window bays. Cutlery not properly clean. Salt cellar was damp on the inside, holes encrusted so wouldn't pour salt out. Menus were tacky with smears of food and drink. Whole place needs a thorough refurb to bring it from the '70s into the 2020s.

We booked space for a family gathering post funeral, and have to say I was extremely impressed with our experience. Friendly staff helped with the original booking, and on the day our event was seamless. The pub was clean and inviting, even on a gloomy day. The tables were clean, the seating more than comfortable, and we ended up staying for a few hours instead of just a short time. Food was excellent, and the staff all incredibly friendly and helpful. The BBQ sausages were the best! Shame we ran out so quickly :) We had a great afternoon, thanks to everyone, I highly recommend the 9 Giants if you are looking for a family gathering in a friendly pub.
