This is possibly one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve had. Room booked a paid for in full by the company. I arrived a day late, and despite taking payment this hotel sold my room to someone else and then tried to argue it was my fault. The deputy general manager was unhelpful rude and ignorant and simply inflamed the situation. Eventually I got a room and as soon as I walked in was hit by a wall of heat and humidity that took your breath away and a fan and some sort of cheap ac type machine that was actually heating, not cooling the room. (This was hottest day of 2023) the AC on the wall clearly didn’t work as had no power. Asked reception to come try the room they agreed was far too hot but had nothing else hotel was full. There is only one positive about this hotel and that is the lady Called Jean on the desk she tried so hard to help and deserves a medal. Disgusting way to treat guests, Terrible nights sleep in a room that was far too hot with no windows no AC and no ventilation at all!

Great location just on the edge of the city centre with everything within walking distance. We stayed as we were attending a conference but I would definately stay again if visiting the city. The reception area, restaurant and bar all seemed to have been recently refurbished and the breakfast was nice. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. The rooms were a great size and from the top floors you get an amazing view. Everything was clean but the room was slightly tired but had everything you needed. The spa, pool and gym were an oasis of calm. Had a great stay.

Had a fantastic time at this hotel. Felt very welcoming and friendly, as the staff greeted us and treated us. Loved the swimming pool, jacuzzi, and sauna. But my favourite was the steam room, scented with menthol for a pleasant relaxing experience. Loved the separate changing rooms and the option for a locker with a padlock for free to keep your stuff safe. Alongside towels and other items. Enjoyed my breakfast in the morning, so many choices and options for all sorts of diary needs and wants. Even had a coffee machine which had lots of choices which was very pleasant. Even had porridge the chef makes for you if you please. The room was very spacious and clean (like the rest of the hotel). The bathroom was beautiful. Definitely worth the money and would stay again. Reasons not for 5 stars - the bed wasn't very comfortable was like hard foam, but it was very big, so that's a bonus. My full English breakfast was full of oil/grease where they sat in the sliver trays.

A stressful experience! Our first spa trip. Reception staff ignored us for 5 minutes at check in while they worked on their laptop, then reluctantly handed the room key over with no explanation or welcome to the hotel. We’d booked for a dinner, lunch and spa treatment. The receptionist booked us in for dinner and told us we needed to book our spa treatment at the spa. Found our own way to the lift and guessed what floor we were on based on the room number. When we got to room we found it was dirty and outdated. The bathroom is full of cracks and the door is in a state. There was a mini fridge but it was empty. I think there were good views but it was hard to tell through the filthy windows! Then I tried to get back downstairs to the spa- a big mistake as all the lifts had stopped working! Walked down all the stairs to find that they only went to the external fire escape. After about 20 minutes I found a working lift. The next day we had lunch and a spa treatment booked. The robes provided were far too small, and when I queried this with the spa I was told to ask at the downstairs leisure section.. which was unmanned. We had preordered our lunch for 1pm as instructed. Our sandwiches did not arrive until 1.30pm, however my wife’s cheese and ham sandwich came with pickle on which was not on the menu. When queried we were told that the menu we were shown in the spa was wrong, as some sort of implication that this was our fault! We then waited another 15 minutes for a replacement sandwich which did not arrive. We gave up and went to Starbucks! After this we didn’t go to the spa as we didn’t want to interact with the rude staff any further. A waste of money, we will be warning our friends and family not to come here!

Me and my girlfriend visited the Mercure on 23/6/23 for one night with a 2 hour use of the spa facilities and two-course meal. Our experience was fantastic! Check-inn was at 3pm, but we were really impressed that when we got there early the reception staff checked if the room was ready for us. We were also able to use the spa before/after we checked-in/out which was fantastic news! The guy at the spa reception was very friendly and made things easy. Only thing to note is you need a cash deposit (you get it back) to use the lockers to lock it with their padlock! Either bring cash or bring your own! The facilities were good and clean and we had a good time using them. The room was very nice with a very nice shower and comfortable bed. The service for the food was excellent. The gentleman was very polite and smart with a good sense of humour and the lady that served us was very friendly and smiley and funny which was very nice! As said earlier, this was Friday the 23rd so make sure they know their work is appreciated please! The food itself was crafted to perfection. I had hummus and garlic bread starter which I would highly recommend. We both had the burger (can’t remember the name) which was spectacular. Then my girlfriend had a cheesecake desert which was very nice. The food also came very quickly so credit goes to the kitchen staff. We had a great nights sleep and had the breakfast which was very good. Huge selection of hot and cold food which was very tasty. Checkout was 11AM. The only thing I might add constructively is the car park is a little bit rundown and limited on space. A lot of the spaces were not in use. The car parking was discounted at £18 I think for 24 hours, so just prepare for that as I thought it was a bit pricey. Other than that, I can’t ask for any more and genuinely can’t even think of one think I would change. Thank you for the service, 10/10

Excellent stay here last night, friendly attentive staff particularly Brenda who made us coffee in the bar this morning and the young man who was at the health spa reception yesterday. Loved the pool which was a decent size. It is a good location for University open days. The rooms were well appointed and comfortable, and nice decor in the lounge bar. There was some difficulty contacting the hotel prior to our stay but Chloe Chard was very helpful, communicating with us via email during her shifts We will visit again.

Nice big room, bath and shower, big TV, fridge. Pool looked adequate, but didn't use it. Great location, 5mins walk into town centre. House keeping were a bit keen on morning of checkout, didn't have to leave until 12midday, but got 4 knocks between 9.30 and 11 am. Guessing the hotel was fully booked that day. Overall a good stay at a good price. Would definitely stay again.

A good hotel in a great location. The staff were wonderful, helpful and very friendly. The beds were really comfortable, the rooms were a decent size. It was also really quiet, I wasn’t disturbed at all by noise from other guests. Having access to the pool and spa was a fantastic extra.

Stayed here for a birthday treat and had paid extra for balloons, drink and cake in room but only balloons were there when we arrived. They were quick to resolve the issue and the cake was delicious! Room was perfect. The pool was a bit too cold the evening and next morning of our stay and a lot of people were complaining of this. Breakfast was amazing! Would stay again!

Popular and busy hotel. We got upgraded to a superior room on the top floor. Very nice apart from the fact the windows were filthy. The room took a long time to warm up with the air conditioning unit. On arrival only one lift was working. Breakfast had good quality products. A nice play to stay overall.

I was at an event for the weekend consisting of 324 people. Got to hotel early and was able to book in, unlike some other hotels I have been to and told to come back as they couldn't book me in until their 3pm booking in time. Staff were very friendly & helpful throughout the weekend. The only downside was being unable to get a drink before going into dinner as that particular area was closed and staff were then brought into the dining area but due to the meeting restraints had to leave so many without a drink. Same with the coffee at end of meal. Otherwise a good weekend.

Toni at reception was staff member who went above and beyond to help keep our family happy on our stay top marks thanks so much in also helping fix our daughters toy, saved a melt down! Really enjoyed the pool, and restaurant was so nice to chill in. Break fast was just perfect. All staff were nice, everything clean, chefs were great. So all in all fab job. Also what a view in 1502 wow. Bet those windows are hard to clean, no idea how you would get up there 🤣

Came here in February 2023. Beautiful hotel, really big rooms, check out not until 12 which is later than most hotels, spa facilities, nice reasonable buffet breakfast. Short walk to shops. Would definitely recommend and return. Staff very helpful and friendly

After seeing a few bad reviews in the weeks leading up to our stay I was a little worried. But I booked 6 rooms, all were clean, and nicely presented. There was no issue with the lifts as I had previously read, you had to wait a matter of seconds before you got in a lift. The Spa was lovely too, never too busy. Hotel is in a great location just outside the town and staff were really helpful when checking in and out.

Can not fault the location and ease of parking for the conference I attended. Staff were very helpful at check-in and check-out attentive in the bar and restaurant and the food was lovely however it was 28 degrees outside and the room thermostat on the air conditioning did not go below 19 degrees so the room was way to hot to sleep in until nearly midnight.

Treated my mum to a summer spa day where we had two massages each and three hours to use the facilities. We both thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and the staff were amazing. Holly, Claire and Mei are a credit to the spa team. Especially Holly my mum loved the massages. Well worth the money. Will be returning.

2 nights stay bed and breakfast my room was very nice duplex with a view of the city one way and a view of the hills the other. As usual a very comfortable bed and nice shower room. Breakfast was buffet style and a very good choice of food I really enjoyed the full English. I will definitely be back to stay next time I visit Cardiff Thank you

I just use a spa facilities and service but was amazing! Great massage and facial! Pool quite busy for a Sunday but still have a chance to relax and swim. Afternoon tea very nice especially for someone with sweet tooth 😋

It is always the small things when you stay at hotels I find, drink on arrival, fresh water always available in reception, clean/crisp linen. Could not fault the hotel and staff were very friendly. One thing I would mention is about the breakfast, I didn't like the idea you could only have a full buffet breakfast or a continental breakfast. It would have been nice just to have had eggs or something smaller. We ended up going outside the hotel for breakfast locally.

Lovely hotel just a mile out of the centre. Stayed over with a friend for the rugby. Staff were polite and efficient. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Would definitely visit again

Overall we were satisfied with the hotel. The decor was good in the public areas, it was all very clean, and the breakfast was good. However, the room we had was right behind the lifts, and it sounded like we were staying near an underground. Constant rumbling. Fortunately, we weren’t in our room much.

Didn't stay. Had a spa day. It was lovely. Could do with more beds around the pool. Afternoon Tea was good but no wow factor. Cakes tasted lovely but weren't as nice as others places. Tasted nicer than they looked to be fair, but afternoon tea is as much about presentation as the food. Best thing about the afternoon tea was the warm scones and the fact you had individual jams and cream in jars.

I booked hotel for my husband birthday. We have lovely welcome and welcome drinks from staff name Ryan. He is amazing and very kind. He gave us a good service upgrade for my room and I am so thankful. Will be back again for sure. Everything is good, clean, fast elevator. I felt freezing in swimming pool as they have a trouble. Hope they are okay xx

Great view out of the windows, ideal location easy to travel around cardiff and be within the vicinity of the hotel. Room was lovely and clean. Bed was very comfy. Leisure facilities was outstanding. Pool could’ve been warmer but definitely not a deal breaker. Would highly recommend

A very pleasant stay in a surprisingly spacious bedroom with great natural lighting. TV needs updating though, and lighting at bathroom mirror should be brighter. Bed? Really comfortable sleep every night! Breakfast good ☺️ staff helpful and attentive. Swimming Pool, steam room and sauna very good 👏🏾. Only disappointing aspect is the limited parking for size of hotel.

Very comfortable and lovely rooms. Beds were comfy and there was plenty of space in the room. I liked the fact the bathroom had a good sized walk-in shower and a bath, so you had a choice. TV in the bedroom could do with updating to a smart TV so we could watch our apps and maybe making the TV a little bigger as it is a smallish TV across a large room. Breakfast was tasty too. Only downfall I would say, is the car park which is £20 for overnight stay (very pricey on top of room price) and it is a very small car park too.

Worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. Called them a week in advance to my booking asking if it was okay that I have just turned 18 and my boyfriend is 16 but 17 soon they said it would be no problem as long as I brought my ID which I did and then had us waiting in the lounge for 35 minutes whilst our stay time had started. I then asked what was happening they told us we couldn’t stay as my boyfriend didn’t have id I then said if he’s a child on the booking system we wouldn’t think he’d need id as he’s 16 unless your 18 there isn’t a point in bringing an id as you can’t use it for anything and then the staff were extremely rude and told us to leave.

We had our spa day today that was gifted to us at our wedding. We enjoyed our treatments (back massage and facial), the therapists were really good. The tea room was a nice break area, and the relaxation room was bliss. Unlike previous reviews, we found the swimming pool area and changing rooms very clean and well maintained. Definitely considering to visit again!! Shoutout to Hanna, the spa manager who helped us with our booking and all enquiries via emails.

Booked for three nights while working in the area. Arrived to find out that the car park is extra. Maybe I should have looked closer. £16.00 a night on top of the stay. Pool and gym could stay open longer. Closes at eight. Not long given the time I got in from work Apart from that hotel was good and comfortable

The lady on reception was very friendly But clearly very busy ! We had booked a spa afternoon and were much looking forward to it . We were not shown around and were made to feel it was inconvenient for us to ask, we were not made welcome at all. We had to show ourselves around to find things. We witnessed the lady in front of us be told to “shut up “ by a member of bar staff for asking a question. She was told “they were filming “ There was no notice put up to say this . We booked a foot treatment . The girls were lovely but basically all we had were our nails painted This is not what I consider a pedicure! They didn’t even take off our previous nail varnish!!! This cost £25 to have our nails painted! Ridiculous!! We had to ask for the slippers and robes, we only knew these were an option as we saw others with them so we asked. The facilities were overcrowded, overbooked maybe? We left early. For a four star hotel and spar, I give it no stars. Total waste off money, we will definitely not recommend this place or indeed return.

Nice hotel, nice bar area, rooms are a bit dated, views over Cardiff are amazing. Staff are friendly and helpful. Great location for visiting central Cardiff. The only downside was the noise from outside, if you are a light sleeper this is not the hotel for you. Traffic noise, noise from people on the street (we were 12 floors up), an alarm in another building for 3 hours in the morning, all things that are outside the control of the hotel.

Room was clean and comfortable.Carpet in the room was ok but it has surely seen better days. Hotel location very close to centre. The spa was pretty nice. From reception staff, the housekeeping staff and all the wait staff we had dealings with were truly amazing.

Had a spa day book.. Spa facilities was not up to par with a 4 star rating..afternoon tea was a picnic bag with a croissant, bag of crisps, aplen bar, apple and orange juice. Back and head massage was amazing. Furniture and cleanliness need an upgrade. We booked a stay in the hotel for 1 night. Facilties were great we was on the top floor as paid for a room with a view which unfortunately we couldn't enjoy like we hoped as the windows were filthy :/ breakfast was lovely just your standard serve yourself breakfast

4 stars????? Really no .... maybe 2. "Stanger Things" producers could shoot in this 80's hotel. Moreover, it was cold and not so clean (especially the pool) and I don't talk about the smell (certainly the same air than in the 80's). And the Anti-Covid measures don't exist in this hotel as nobody wear a mask. I don't recommand this hotel.

My daughter and I booked a spa day, we didn’t stay at the hotel. The treatments were good but the spa is just a bit shabby and not very clean. 3 out of the 4 showers in the changing rooms were out of order and the beds in the relaxation room were threadbare. I could write in the dust in the dining area. Would not recommend.

Wonderful stay at Mercure Holland Hotel & Spa. The parking below the hotel was slightly difficult to navigate as the spaces were very small and tight. The check in process was very quick and easy and the staff members were helpful and informative. Our room was very clean and tidy and we had so much space for our luggage. You have the standard coffee making station, safe, telephone etc. The spa was okay. Definitely didn't have a 'spa-like' feel as the pool was mostly closed off for children's swimming lessons. It felt like it could have done with an upgrade and a revamp to make it more relaxing. We only went in the restaurant for a glass of wine and breakfast, no issues there as the staff were friendly and atmosphere was very relaxing. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend but we would suggest that some areas of the hotel has some upgrading and maintaining as it's a little tired. Also only 1/4 elevators worked.

This review is for the spa experience as I didn't get to stay in any of the rooms. You'd never guess there is an oasis of relaxation and calm right on Newport road but that is what Mercure Cardiff Holland House offers. I had a spa day pass and a treatment and I cannot speak highly enough of the facilities but most importantly the staff. Every single staff member I met were incredibly helpful and friendly and simply made my stay effortless and relaxing. From check-in to ordering lunch, accessing the treatment rooms, etc they were all exceptional. The hot stone massage from Chloe was incredible, she was professional yet friendly and put me at ease right away. The additional relaxation room available within the spa section was my highlight, it truly felt like I was away in some island retreat. All in all, a brilliant relaxing experience and I cannot wait to return.

Visited for a spa and afternoon tea day. Customer service was amazing all day! The pool area seems a little dated and could do with a bit of freshening up. Not enough beds as people were "holding them" but didn't use them during the time we were there. Afternoon tea was delicious, scones were so fresh they were falling apart. Could perhaps do with a bit more privacy, we were in our robes with swimwear eating in the same place as a group conference at the time. A bit awkward I imagine for both parties, perhaps a privacy screen could have been introduced but that's me just being pedantic. Again service for afternoon tea was amazing, couldn't fault it. I had a full body massage and this was amazing! I'm sorry I can't remember the name of the masseuse but I think she found every knot in my back! Worth every penny with the relief from having a bad back for a bit. Fresh iced water provided in the treatment area and tea/coffee provided. Again being pedantic, maybe a fruit juice would have been nice for a little flavour but that's me just trying to find some additional feedback. The relaxation room was #bliss ! I could have quite happily stayed the whole time in there! And visiting at Christmas time, the Christmas tree was a bonus ! Overall absolutely loved my visit and would highly highly recommend!

The room wasn't ready upon arrival. I had booked an accessible room but the shower seat was broken, leaving it unusable. I had reported it & we were offered a room swap but we had unpacked & as a disabled lady I couldn't face repacking, moving & unpacking again. The food was delicious apart from the mushrooms at breakfast which were gritty & dirty 🤮 The pool was lovely & so was the jacuzzi & sauna, didn't try the steam room. Spa treats were divine apart from the deluxe pedicure which is not worth the £50.

Had a wonderful hen night stay. All the staff from front office, restaurant and spa were attentive, professional and very helpful. Enjoyed our stay, check in was fast and efficient, breakfast was superb. To the house keeping room were clean and spotless. Would definitely come back😊

The hotel is right in the centre of the town. It can be missed if you do not see the hotel...you have to look up for it. Be careful when arriving as if you driving down you could end up in the city centre. The parking is expensive even just for 1 night...but you have no other option as there is nowhere to park. It is a very small parking lot and if you have to leave you might not find a space when you return. But do remember that you will still be charged. The rooms are ok but there are several floors and only 1 lift is working so be careful if you have allot of luggage. Breakfast was good and the chef is available for omelette and any extras if you require it. In all a good place but not somewhere I would want to go back to.

Our short stay at the hotel for a hen’s do celebration was superb. The staffs welcomed us with not only their friendly smiles but also surprised us with prosecco and balloons. Sujan made great arrangements for our stay while Tim threw in some humour. All staffs were lovely. Great housekeeping service. Clean hotel and lovely decor. A pleasant environment to enjoy the breakfast too. We sure didn’t miss out on the swimming pool, sauna and jacuzzi too. Overall a great stay. No room for any disappointments. Very pleased. Highly recommend.

Our stay at the hotel and Spa was amazing, the staff were both friendly and professional, nothing was to much trouble for them. On arrival they found out that my Mother was celebrating her 85th Birthday so they upgraded our rooms and gave us complimentary drinks. As we sat in the bar the staff came over with a slate tray with a choice of cakes for my mother with Happy Birthday written on the slate. My mother was extremely grateful and they made her birthday that extra bit special. We will definitely be returning to this hotel and spa again I can highly recommend it to anyone.

It is a nice city centre hotel. I'd say go down to breakfast during the busier period because the turnover of cooked items is higher and the pastries and eggs are nicer that way. The scrambled eggs were some of the best I've had at a hotel buffet! Pool nice, but a little small for such a massive hotel. Staff very helpful, thank you!

A very good hotel, quite easy to locate with sat mac, but I didnt see any signs at road level. The reception staff very polite and helpful. The room itself very good size with not only a very large bed but a sofa and table. Breakfast is a serve yourself with a very range of food on offer, the bacon and sausages were very good. My only gripe the hotel in my opinion was quite pricey. But on the whole a decent place to stay.

On arrival to the hotel we were met at reception by Lauren who was extremely polite, friendly and very efficient in fact she was amazing! The whole hotel is very clean and tidy. We stayed on the 14th floor which had jaw dropping views, highly recommend that room. We did visit the pool which again was clean and well run. We didn’t eat here so can’t comment on that. The location of the hotel is excellent.

Very disappointing. The room is beautiful (we are currently staying here for the evening) and the bath is to die for however, the service is very poor. To get a drink is quite difficult as even though it is quiet it seems to take approx 10-15 minutes to make a cocktail and that is after being served. Food has been extremely disappointing, we had the set menu and was I would give it a 1/10 and that is being generous. For the price we have paid we were expecting far more and better service. We will not be returning.

Breakfast good, evening meal way below worth having. Slow service, crispy chicken was crispy not just the skin it was dried out. Fish was poor quality and the skin not removed so spoilt the taste. Chips were under cooked. Reception Staff warm and friendly. Room really good. Location great. Would come back for sure but eat out for evening meals

Very disappointing stay overall. The fridge in my room (Room 614) is broken (I wasn’t notified this at all before checking in) so when I found out about this, the staff brought in a bucket of ice for me to put my food & drinks in... He was trying to be helpful but this is very inconvenient as the ice melted over the night and everything was dripping in the morning. Whilst the reception knew all about this and the next day was saying it was very hard to put me in another room as there was the football team staying that weekend... So I was simply given a plastic Spa bag and asked to put my food & drinks in it and brought them to the 1st floor to store them in the bar fridge there. Sorry but this is not even decent. On Sunday morning around 10am, I went to the 1st floor bar & restaurant area to get a coffee. It literally took the guy 20+ mins to have the coffee machine cleaned before it would be able to serve again. Apparently they were not prepared at all. I could not wait any longer so did not get anything in the end but left in the heavy rain! Considering it is a 4 star hotel, there’s far better that can be done.
