Ahhh Yo! just isn't what it used to be. I think I still come to this chain restaurant for the nostalgia. When I was a child I remember my first trip to a Yo! Sushi in Selfridges at the Trafford Centre and it felt fun and different from anything I'd ever tried growing up in rural North Wales. They've rebranded in the last few years to Yo! and perhaps due to Covid, meddled with the format a few too many times. If it ain't broke, why fix it? Prices are extortionate for the quality (although it was always on the pricey side) and the fun elements like the little buzzer that made a noise and the water taps have gone. The food is fine but the choice is a bit MEH by now. The menu is clunky and the ordering format a bit confusing. Order by phone but pay the waiter? Or phone? Or shout across a room if there is an issue or you still haven't had your drinks. Why go to Yo! for a Katsu curry when Wagamama do a much better version in comfier seats? Yo fries are basically McDonald's chips with sriracha mayo. If it were cheaper perhaps I wouldn't leave such a scathing review. I'd rather spend that money somewhere that gave you either the right quantitve amount or quality to deserve the prices. I think my love affair with Yo! ended a while ago but I've kept going back hoping to feel what I used to when I went as child, teen, student. The only great thing about it was the company ❤️

I have mercy on those who think these are sushi, I have real sushi all the time and I am in the position to say this is the most disgusting and awful food which insults the name of sushi. If you are one of those who contributes to these 4.1 stars, you are probably the most easily satisfied, happiest but also the most ignorant person living at a tiny corner of this world.

I'm fond of this place. I do like to try different kinds of food and enjoyed eating here with my family. Japanese food is definitely one of my favourites. Love sushi and also loved the popcorn shrimp. Definitely would recommend you try this place if you haven't. Would come back.

There is no service because it's all self service on your phone now. Asked for tap water, didn't receive any. On the menu there were only about 6 sushi roll options and they've gotten rid of the conveyor belt system where you just pick what you fancy and can try different food. Also no ginger on the tables anymore either. The one appealing thing about yo sushi was the conveyor belt and the chance to try different things as they go by. The selection is so reduced. Don't like the fact that there is a service charge automatically added. So if you decide you want more you keep having to pay the service charge every time. It doesn't make it easy to order more than a couple of plates either. Using a phone to order food completely kills the conservation as you both can't see the menu and discuss if there's food you want to share and you're charging £6 for 4 prices when even the fanciest restaurants will give you double for the same or cheaper per roll. It's a shame as we went in yo sushi the first time in long while and we're disappointed. Also they've gotten rid of a lot of fish options on the menu and traded for vegan options which is a shame when we come for sushi specifically to try different fish sushi options. Its genuinely cheaper just to buy a multipack of fish than sit in. Maybe they want to only sell food in supermarkets going forward.

Lovely food, but treated as second class. My daughter booked a booth for us. We were on time for our booking but were told that we couldn't have the empty booth because a group of 4 people were due in 15 minutes. It seems if there are only 2 of you, then you are second class. We opted to wait for the " booked booth that wasn't allowed" and we did get one. It was the attitude of not being important and not counting to the hostess/greeter.. not sure how to refer to her. We used to love going there but probably won't again.

The food was very tasty and it was a great experience. We tried out the Ramen, noodles and fries. All the dishes were very tasty.

I was stuck for lunch in work oneday and ended up getting some miso soup, Inarizushi which was delicious/fresh, & either fried chicken or shrimp & it was all delicious, hot and reasonably priced. Would highly recommend for a healthy treat In the office

First time visiting since the introduction of restrictions due to Covid-19 and I was really impressed. Yo! are able to use their existing food delivery systems but in a more refined manner to still keep the unique feel of the restaurant. Staff were super helpful and the food was just as good quality as ever. Only downside is having to use phone data but the system really was flawless as you're able to order and pay from your phone with the food then being delivered direct to your table number. It was exciting to see if the orders would actually stop on the conveyor belt correctly and they did every time. Definitely a place to re-visit in the near future.

Food was tasty but they've got rid of the conveyor belt and cheap plates of food. Portions are very small for the price and there's a forced £3.50 service charge on the bill which is fine if there is service but the waitress wanted nothing to do with us. Explains why it was so quiet and we were the only ones there. Won't be going again unfortunately.

So disappointing. Disinterested manager, no notice taken of allergy warnings. Dirty, dusty and cluttered. Very quiet for a early Friday evening.

Quick and easy good tasting food. Perfect for a quick lunch on the go. Service was fast and good. Only issue was my soy sauce pot wasn't properly clean and my napkin had old say sauce on it meaning it wasn't cleaned before me being seated there.

Only a couple of staff members realise they’re running the business, almost always no walk ins, yet always empty tables, and they operate at ‘reduced capacity’ all the time recently. Manager/Area Manager should be embarrassed, it has potential to be the flagship store. Yakitori down the bay is a nicer option, but again limited availability and times.

Usually love YO! and have made many trips over the years but this one in Cardiff felt expensive, had extremely slow service and half the menu was missing without warning (including staple dishes and popular drinks). Also the amount they charge for a gyoza dish, just for you to watch them take it out a freezer bag and fry is depressing.

I love sushi but it was a it hard work. I've given 5 stars as the food and service was great but the covid measures have somewhat spoilt the experience in my opinion. You can only book online, in advance. No just turning up. Inside, food can only be ordered via the app, on your phone. Then your food comes to you on the belt. No more food just whizzing round on the belts and sort of grabbing what you fancy. Alot of pressure on you if you order a few dishes at once. You get 10 seconds or so to get your food off the belt. Food is fresh and superb. Service was great. Experience wasn't the best for me and my 2 children.

Yo Sushi was excellent on every level. The Manageress of the store is so energetic and nothing is too much trouble for the team. The service was friendly, efficient and professional. I am all about good service and at Yo Sushi my expectations were met. The sushi was fresh, beautifully presented and the Korean BBQ chicken was so delicious we ordered another portion. I can highly recommend a visit to this eatery if good food, great vibe and great service is what you are after.

Quick service and lovely staff. Excellent value with 20% off for students, Green Wednesdays and 30% (usually in the new year). The COVID regulations have made it easier in my opinion, with everything being sent around on the conveyor and meals being super easy to customise or check ingredients using the app.

Delicious food with amazing service, definitely recommend trying a range of different items on the menu. Gets busy on weekends and when events are happening in the city so recommend booking, however can be quiet during the week.

Brilliant attentive staff, fantastic food cooked and prepared by the chefs in the middle, speedy service, and all in all a fantastic dining experience for lovers of sushi, sashimi and Asian food in general!

Went here today for the first time. The place is lovely, very spacious, and airy, the food was super good, and we watched it get made right in front of us, the chefs were great and handed us the food directly. The star of the show however was our waiter, Trig. He was absolutely amazing, some of the best service we've ever had. He greeted us with a smile, showed us how to order food, constantly checked on us to see if we were enjoying. After we finished our food, he was so happy to chat to us and we ended up chatting for a good 5 min. We are 100% going again and hope Trig receives praise for how good of a job he did! :)

We went there for having a nice time and enjoy some sushi and fully aware that things changed with the pandemic but what we found there was an awful UX and Design Service. Basically if the user doesn't have a Smart Phone is impossible to eat at this place which is completely unfair since not everyone has a mobile phone. Apparently the place has some signal jammer because was impossible to have access to the website to order some food. They gave us the option to join to their WiFi but in exchange I had to fill a humongous form, something that I find very annoying but especially intrusive. After several attemps we were able to order some food but once again, we had to fill a form that was totally nonsense and unnecessaty to place an order, it was just to gather some data.

We have come here quite a few times and we really enjoy the food but the male server with the blue hair has been so rude to us the past two time we have gone. He’s been very short, told us we need to be a ‘little bit patient’ after they had served every table who came in after us and we had already waited 30 minutes for our food. He snapped at us when we asked about student discounts and overall he was so rude we left really upset both times. We gave the benefit of the doubt the first time but seems to be a recurring problem. He basically told us we either leave or be patient rather than apologising for the delay. I’ve worked in customer service and i would never dream of talking to a customer the way he was.

Food is usually good. I have twice been served rice and noodles that weren't cooked. It was rectified. I appreciate that after Covid the conveyor belt selection is not appropriate but I don't like ordering online and I find the menu boring and so much more expensive. What happened to the Tamago! Servers are really nice. The only problem I have is that in busy periods it might take a while to get drinks, or refills on the miso soup.

In comparison to other sushi places, Yo! doesn’t offer a vast variety of sushi. In my opinion sushi options offered by Yo is pretty limited. Didn’t like the chicken gyoza, was overly fried. Beef teriyaki and rice was okay but a little too sweet. Desserts are slightly overpriced. Also have to book in advance. If you’re a student you can get a 20% off discount code from Unidays used in-store.

Really great staff, some of the best customer experience I ever had. Can't wait to visit again!

First time trying Yo and really enjoyed the experience! My advice, go for a bowl containing rice or noodles and follow it with a couple of individual dishes such as popcorn shrimp of sushi. Share a bowl of chips - Tasty sauce....expect to pay around £15/person with a soft drink to wash it down. You need to book a table it gets very busy, especially at lunchtime!

My autistic children were left in tears today by a very angry manager who wouldn't let us eat because we didn't have a mobile phone. We offered to sign for track and trace with a pen and paper but this wasn't good enough for her. We intend to take legal action for breach of the equality act 2010. Avoid.

Me and my partner went here for a birthday meal as my favourite food is sushi and I loved it! This is a Japanese style sushi place with a belt. They place the food on the belt (picture at the bottom not from yo! Sushi) it goes around until it reaches you and stops that is when you grab your food and eat it. I have one piece of advice for you when eating here. Don’t look at the pictures when ordering. If you do you will over order. The portion sizes are small but they are very filling and you will eat less than you think. I had ordered 12 salmon makis, 2 prawn nigiri, rice and fries while my partner ordered gyoza and a chicken curry ramen with orange juice. We both had a jug of water to go with our meal and chocolate mochi as dessert. We both definitely can agree I over ordered as I thought the portions looked small. If you are ever in Cardiff pop into Yo! Even if you do not like sushi you will find something that you like and the whole experience is really enjoyable and relaxing.

I love Yo Sushi with an undying passion. The food is always incredible and the staff are amazing too. I love the choice they have available and they'll freshly make any dish on the menu if you ask. It's not just sushi if you're not into that. It can get a little on the pricey side if you're like me and want everything but Blue Mondays have reduced price dishes and the same great quality food so definitely worth visiting then

Fresh food, amazing flavour and great atmosphere. More quality than quantity but definitely worth it.

Food was nice but the experience wasn't the best as you can only order online so have to order all your dishes at the same time. Very nice though and staff were friendly

Went on Monday 18th July - as it opened and before it got super busy. Food is prepared fresh for you and the quality has improved so much since the last time I visited. The staff were helpful and friendly and everything arrived in a timely manner. Would definitely recommend!

I was rly looking forward to trying their sushi , half of it was very very bland , too much much but it’s not tasty, then you have extra fish on the side which I felt was a waste as it wasn’t put into a sushi and was also not tasty at all, overall I’m disappointed and sad, for almost £10 it’s not worth it for me, was hoping to be become a regular , guess I got to stick to Tesco sushi which has more flavour
