Have stayed numerous times always good had breakfasts evening meals lovely...went for afternoon tea there last week really nice but we could have done with more sandwiches and savories than all the cakes just a personal choice !! May be an idea to ask the guests what they'd prefer on booking or when they arrive as I would definitely come again if this was an option....prosecco with strawberry and blackcurrant liquor was lovely 😍

The hotel was pleasant but for 4 stars had a few things missing. First there was no toilet brush. Toiletries were only soap and shower gel. Also there was no fridge in the rooms. Beds were comfortable but moved very easy. The staff were very good and always listened. They were very helpful.

Who rates this place 4-5 stars? People who are employed by the company to boost reviews? It felt like I imagine Eastern European hotels felt like in the '70s. Very dated room, bathroom held together with plumbing magic, reasonably cleaned but what it really needs is to be gutted and refurbed. And price gouging for uni graduation period. Breakfast room looks like the secret police will rush in any second and drag someone out. Buffet sad, especially hot food. Terribly understaffed. Only positive things I can say are that staff are pleasant and location is very central.

Went for prosecco high tea. 5 stars. Spotless inside. Service attentive but chilled. Nice mix of sandwiches, cakes, quiche and scones. Great place to people watch too.

Perfect placement within Cardiff for City centre. Bfast was above average but still lovely wish someone had told us we could ask for different eggs as we would have ordered but no info given regarding that. However bed was lovely and comfortable and good shower too :)

The rooms were very comfy, had a great night's sleep, despite being right next to the railway line. This hotel would be a trainspotting dream. The bar and restaurant are level with the tracks going to Cardiff Central Station. Food was good staff were helpful and friendly. Would stay again.

stayed on business. On 7th floor, ice machine in corridor. Only one chair in room no table but two beds! Easy to access from bus station short walk. Reception staff friendly and welcoming. Bathroom small with no window or vent. Kettle and tea and coffee available and lots of it. fans can be provided if asked for as windows don't open which is a big no no for me as I want fresh air. Overall nicely decorated. Stain on duvet cover. More of a three star.

Previous visited and wasn't the best in terms of room, facilities and experience. Hotel manager offered us back for a complementary night stay and was far better! Room was clean, modern and had a nice view. Appreciated having an iron, dressing gowns, coffee machine and sky TV. This was particularly useful because mum fell ill and we had to our little one, this occupied her.Staff were overall very accommodating, super friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The fact they went out if their way to make such and effort i.e leaving us a welcome back note etc, just goes to show that they do care about their guests experience, they welcome feedback and rectify issues raised, which is great to see in a company. Completely redeemed themselves compared to last visit. Would definitely recommend and return. Thank you Amy and all the staff for a lovely stay

Great value city centre hotel. Location was great. Near the train station but didn't hear anything really. Good views of the city. Staff were friendly, bar was basic but reasonably priced given its location... However lots of local choice so would't imagine many would eat/drink for too long there. I would return and for the costs it's a bargain

Neither one of us are handicap not sure why we got a handicap room TV remote did not work. I had to have someone work with it after the sixth remote was able to get it working. Had a problem with the room not cooling off. Someone showed me how to do it at midnight it turned itself off so I had to deal with it at midnight. Trying to get cool air again. Shower was a mess water everywhere I guess what do you expect for me wheelchair accessible shower neither one of us needed it. Or asked for it. Breakfast was a disaster. Most things were not clean and not inspected before putting out for customers to eat. Also very poor customer service.

The room that I was given was very spacious and comfortable, affording a very good view over Cardiff Bay. The room was clean and offered all the facilities that one would expect at a 4* hotel. I had dinner three times during my stay and the food was first class and not expensive and the waiting staff were very professional and helpful. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful and went a long way to make my stay most enjoyable. I had breakfast on four days and the selection of food on offer was really good. I went down to breakfast for 07.30 and whereas the breakfast room was very busy on each occasion that I had breakfast the cooked food was just about warm. When I am away from home I like a hot cooked breakfast and this was the only disappointment of my stay at your hotel. However it will not stop me from staying with you again in the future.

Excellent service and communication. Room was clean and so quiet - considering it was right near the train track and busy town centre. Breakfast was lovely and the reception team were very welcoming and helpful. Perfect location for a visit to Cardiff. We enjoyed drinks in the bar and had a wonderful time.

Overall a pleasant stay, the location is amazing for this hotel which makes the price reasonable. So quiet considering the hustle and bustle right outside. Check in and out is easy, breakfast is okay considering it’s a 4 star hotel it’s pretty standard. Overall the room was good spacious, clean, had what you needed. Negatives are the shower pressure is awful, beds are very small & solid and only 1 extra pillow. Room was also boiling during the night so woke us up as the air con kept turning off for some reason. Staff were friendly and helpful when needed and at breakfast We enjoyed our stay overall and other than the few issues we would stay again if the price was on offer like we paid purely for the great location (wouldn’t pay full price though unfortunately)

Rooms recently redone so they are clean but feel devoid of warmth. Drinks are ridiculously expensive in the bar but the bar/lounge is a comfortable place to sit. No place to sit outside in fresh air except a few tables outside the lobby where people sit and smoke. Air conditioning was inconsistent. Location is good (very close to train station) but construction around it detracts from the setting. No pool in hotel. Good coffee machine in the restaurant.

Not a 4-star Hotel! Look elsewhere for a better room. We were expecting so much more since it was booked by our travel agent but she hadn't been here in awhile. I would not even book our dogs to stay here. First we did not have the room that was booked for us and the rude person at check in tried to justify a lie for it. Then we get up to a room filled with stained sheets. Stains on the wall that I will pretend I'm not sure what they were. Dirt and finger nails in the carpet. Food crumbs still in the corner chair. Dust so thick in the corners that the the 90's red and brown carpet was white around them. Paint on the curtains from what looked like a quick cleanup paint job for some other reason. The Bathroom had large chunks of tile missing. So in large we demanded a refund and thankfully the Hilton Cardiff had an opening and I must say is about 150 times better. Recently redone and room layouts that actually make sense. So in Short I already emailed our agent about the experience and unless you like to over pay for a motel 6 thats trying to be passed off as a Marriott I would highly recommend looking for other places in Cardiff

This hotel needs refurbishing. From the moment I saw the plastic plants outside the door, my heart sank and the poor impression continued. It was not cheap, there was no air and no breakfast included. I would recommend choosing somewhere else. The staff were very helpful but the hotel is depressing.

Great staff from the off, upgraded to exec room and had a comfortable stay all in all. Breakfast was the only real downer on the stay as it was all a bit tasteless. The fruit selection had little flavour aside from the oranges. The coffee was absolutely undrinkable. The buffet fried breakfast was OK but not entirely worth the money even with the weekend deal. We tried the bar for one drink but took it straight up to the roomo as the decor and lighting in the lounge was awful. Other than that, great bed and shower. Good room service meal too.

I had afternoon tea with a friend in the restaurant. The food was really well presented, tasty and fresh. The staff were very attentive and helped make it an enjoyable experience. They were well informed on allergies and checked back a number of times, offering additional tea and coffee. Great view of a bustling area of Cardiff. Will definitely visit again. Thanks

Room is small and shower pressure is not good enough to wash your hair. Otherwise the hotel is fine! Location definitely makes up for anything. Perfect place to stay when watching the rugby. We came for food after and the service was a bit slow but staff were friendly and gave us a round of drinks on the house. The food was good too ☺️

The information leading up to our stay was first class The communication from the reception team was accurate prompt and very friendly - it was hard to fault. The room was brilliant and superbly fitted out. All in all we had a wonderful experience in this 1st class Hotel.

I have been staying here regularly since August 2021..it is the only place I stay when I am in Cardiff. Warm and friendly 'home from home' welcome ..great comfort, excellent staff and best hotel experience... Highly recommend to anyone staying in Cardiff ... My friends and family also stay here when they can. Great team and top notch menu and breakfast as well. My kids always enjoy the mocktails at the bar. The newly refurbished rooms make a great stay even better (if that is possible!) ..15 out of 10!!

A reasonably priced hotel. The room was a good size for 3 people . 1 double bed and 1 single. It was clean . We didn't feel that the air conditioning was working properly even though we were told it was. It was working but not as cool as would've liked. The hotel was only 5 mins walk from train station... Good for us.Good location for getting around the city. The view from the window was of trains , not that we were in the room much and you couldn't hear them . On the whole the staff were friendly and helpful.

We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights for a Christmas shopping family trip. The both rooms were lovely and clean as well as being a nice size. The floor to ceiling windows are a nice feature and let in lots of light. The location is perfect - so central. The staff were all wonderful and couldn't do enough for the guests. The bar area is comfortable and again bar staff were fab. We will 100% return!

I booked a 2 night stay including breakfast over the phone. A lovely receptionist was very helpful ,friendly and professional. I was delighted she was on duty throughout our stay and maintained her friendly helpfulness. Our room was perfect and the breakfast enjoyable. My mother and I enjoyed some much needed time together and the Clayton was the perfect place to do it . Thank you to all the staff on duty everyone was attentive and friendly.

I’ve stayed here for 10 years every November and this time was the first time we have considered going elsewhere. The new check in system is so impersonal and the staff not that helpful it’s sort of tainted the whole experience. The room was nice as usual and the breakfast was mediocre, the potatoes are bland and the scrambled eggs were like rubber. There has definitely been a decline In the quality of this hotel which is a shame as we have such great memories here.

Convenient place to stay. Hardly any gluten free options on evening menu. Would be nice if us celiacs would be able to have a cooked breakfast but there was fruit, cereal and toast which was a nice touch. Staff behind reception didn't know what a blanket was. Bed are comfy but I won't be rushing back.

Had an excellent stay in Clayton Cardiff, rooms were very clean, bed comfortable, and had everything needed for our stay. All staff at the hotel were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Location was brilliant. Only one recommendation would be to have guest information leaflet in the room with times of check in/out, and restaurant's opening times for breakfast ,lunch, and dinner. Very well done to a fabulous team at Clayton Cardiff

Stayed in the Clayton recently and the stay was fantastic. Rooms fabulous and hotel staff amazing. One waitress her name was Gina an Irish lady and stood out for me and went above and beyond to make our stay the best ever. Thank you Gina 👍😀

Location is perfect bang on the start of St Mary's Street, where all the action is not far to walk back on drunken legs. The welcoming was lovely, the staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room, however, was a bit dated, I thought compared to how modern the foyer was. The parking is down the road by the train station 2 minute walk. With Viva Brazil underneath the smells will instantly make your tummy grumble. Lovely stay all in all but 250 a night bit overpriced.

Stayed here twice and didn’t disappoint. Right in the centre of Cardiff… everything is literally a minute walking distance! Clean, posh rooms with good views. Nice warm shower. All staff were extremely friendly, especially the guy on the bar! Breakfast was lovely too. They could improve by adding even more choice but that’s just me being greedy! I was awoken by people coming back from their night outs at 4am but that can’t be helped. Would definitely come back for a third time!

Welcoming and helpful staff. Lovely room with a great view of the city. Restaurant staff very helpful. Fantastic location close to station, city centre and the Bay.

The beds in this chain are the best. The hotels are really nice, this one was no exception. Great location, especially for Cardiff bay - 15 min walk. Good value. Car park at station, £12.50 a day, not much you can do about that for a city centre. Staff very helpful and friendly. We'll be back soon.

Excellent location in the city centre by the main railway station but very quiet. All the staff were aware of the clients needs in a very friendly and efficient manner. The room was very comfortable and well equipped.

Loved this place , excellent staff can't do enough to please everyone, happy and cheerful, hotel situated right in the heart of the city, easy access for train station.

Booked a couple of nights and a couple of rooms at the Clayton hotel in Cardiff over the late May Bank Holiday. Great location, right next to the station and easy access to city centre and all the shops. We parked in the Marriott hotel next door, which was reasonable and only a short walk to hotel. Breakfast was delicious, bar reasonably priced... generally pretty impressed, just could have been a bit cleaner in the room in places. Views from the top floors are stunning too.

Upon arrival we were greeted by a member of staff at reception. She was so friendly and helpful. She provided us with a useful guide of bus routes etc to get around the city. Rooms we're meticulously cleaned to a high standard.. Lovely morning breakfast with a birthday card given to us from the amazing staff who realised it was our daughters birthday. Would definitely recommend staying here again 😊

The Clayton Hotel was wonderful. Check in was quick, our room was comfortable and clean and the hotel is in a great location. It doesn't have a car park bit you can park at the railway station across the road and it's less than 5 min walk. Breakfast was lovely and there was a fantastic choice. The staff are professional and so lovely. It's very safe to stay there during the times were living in these days. Plenty of sanitising stations. A wonderful hotel.

Once again had a lovely stay. As usual staff went out of their way to help you and were very friendly. Room was spotless, bed extremely comfy and breakfast was stunning and plentiful. Can't wait for our next visit, a big well done to all staff!

Nice place very clean we got upgraded not sure if the room was the same as we booked anyway could not really tell the difference. Sky TV did not work in the room but had plenty of coffee to drink though.

Stayed here recently for two nights and it was excellent. Room was lovely and very comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful. We ate at the resturant on our last night and there was something for everyone. Would definitely stay here again. Also it's right next to the train station and really close to the centre.

Went for afternoon cream tea which was ok'ish. Would have like cup and saucer instead of mugs. Another pot of cream for scones would have been nice and they were abit stale. Also the table could have been cleaner and the chairs definitely needed a hoover taken over them.

This hotel is one of the nicest hotels in Cardiff. Very friendly staff and spacious rooms with great beds and lovely bath rooms. The cleaning is impecable, and the location could not be better.

We were transferred into this hotel as the hotel we were booked into had no hot water. The staff at the Clayton were lovely and welcoming, they upgraded our room for no extra costs. Room was lovely great view, coffee machine, large bath and sky on the TV and nice hot shower. 100% recommend.

We arrived early today and they allowed us to check in early and drop off bags. We hit the shops but later on we heard about the storm being upgraded to red. I spoke to a lovely lady Sian who has agreed to swap our stay to another time so I can get home tonight safe to my children. This lady was so understanding and so lovely!! This hotel is clean and has an excellent location near the train station and all shops. I would 100% recommend and will be telling anyone and everyone what lovely staff they have.

Went for afternoon tea. Minimal selection, shabby surroundings, service adequate, staff. We're friendly but not very attentive. Not worth the money would try somewhere else next time. Having said. That, the food was good, the scone exceptional.

A great choice if you enjoy small dark rooms with no lobby or kitchen staff. A chef quit during our stay and other staff member had to order us take away food. I recommend staying here if you want a 2 star hotel for a 4 star price.

1 night stay on Sunday the 4th of April after my son's wedding. What a great night I had first time here it won't be the last. The staff were amazing and are a credit to the Hotel always willing to go the extra mile to make your stay special. I dined at the restaurant again the waiting staff made sure your dining experience was first class the food and the service didn't disappoint I can't believe I haven't stayed here before but I can guarantee it won't be long before I go back

Came here with my girlfriend and both of our mothers for a belated Mother's Day afternoon tea. Lots of options and very accommodating with certain requests. Even though I live nearby still very good central location for anyone travelling to Cardiff especially by train. Would happily come here again.

Staff were very helpful and welcomed us upon arrival checked us in and we were made to feel very welcome. Hotel itself is perfectly situated for Cardiff centre and the train station, we had a great room with everything we wanted. quiet nights sleep. Breakfast was perfect with everything you could want in the morning. hotel was spotless. would definitely visit again. in fact I'm returning at the end of the month.

Stayed here as part of a large work event to which the staff at the hotel accommodated very well. Rooms are nice, not cramped, and have the necessary amenities. Breakfast in the morning was lovely too! Only downside, is that most room doors seem to slam rather than soft close which, if you're a light sleeper like myself, can occasionally wake you. No doubt I'll be back on a personal adventure as the hotel is well located

Ideal location for the city & station..Rooms modern, clean and comfortable. Great breakfast choices. Dinner menu a bit limited, was told it was due to being inbetween head chefs. Staff always pleasant & helpful.

  • 2/5 Brenda L. 1 year ago on Google
Location perfect for train station and shops....we were put in a double single room even though we paid for double double..room was dusty..i was overcharged for my stay ,it was different price than my booking..I'm currently investigating this.staff were ok..air conditioning wasn't working, we nearly melted in the room..the room was 2 small for four people. They finally came and fixed it after been told multiple times about it..I also complained that the room wasn't what I paid for and I wanted to move they said they were hooked out so I couldn't change but the hotel was very quiet so I'd say they just didn't want to move me.

  • 3/5 Christopher B. 1 year ago on Google
Whilst the location of this hotel is perfect for the city centre, the price of the rooms doesn’t match the quality. It’s very 1990’s and desperately needs modernisation, old TV’s no plugs next to the beds, curtains that have seen better days. The breakfast is good and the service excellent, it just needs a spruce up to justify the cost per night.

  • 5/5 Stuart K. 1 year ago on Google
We had lunch at Viva Brazil before the Wales v Australia rugby match. Obviously town was very busy but we were seated promptly on arrival and the waitress explained how it all works. You choose whatever you want from the hot and cold buffet, order drinks then the various barbecued meats are brought to the table one at a time and you can have as little or as much as you want. Every meat was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. Both my sons and I were very impressed with the quality and the service. I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant and will definitely be returning.

Brilliantly situated if you take the train to Cardiff, it's just around the corner. We had an Afternoon Tea package over a weekend. The Afternoon Tea was delicious and very reasonably priced. Breakfast was also very good. All staff that we encountered we're helpful and friendly, answering all of our queries. The room was very clean and nicely decorated. Had a wonderful night sleep, would definitely stay here again.
