Food is great but be prepared to wait. Booked a table for 9.30am for breakfast, whilst our drink orders were taken pretty soon after arriving, they refused to take our food order until they had taken other peoples who arrived before us, even though we were ready to order and others were not ready. The young lady with glasses making coffee was very rude and abrupt in telling us this weird system of ordering. Because of this I clocked the times as it felt we waiting for ages to even just place an order. This meant our food order was not taken until 10:09. Almost 40 minutes after arriving. Such a bizarre system! Food didn’t arrive until 10:28am almost 1 hour after arriving to a booked reservation. I would understand if it was dinner but seriously for breakfast?? Anyhow quality of food was good, but for me service is equally important. I hope they rethink their ordering system. Not everyone has an hour to wait for a booked Reservation for breakfast, hence my score of 2 stars.

Came for lunch on a Sunday. Very busy but we had booked a table which I recommend you do. Fairly cosy inside so don't expect a restaurant atmosphere but it was nice and staff friendly and helpful. Disappointed that they don't serve Sunday lunch, mostly breakfast/brunch dishes which were good. Tried steak and eggs, mackerel salad and bacon and toast. Hash browns were delicious. Enjoyed the meal but wished there was more choices on the menu.

Delicious food and coffee. You don't need to wait to be seated at this restaurant, just find your seat and the waiters will come to you. We ordered the oat latte and oat cappuccino, they were both evidently better than most (highly rated) cafes in Cardiff city centre. The oat cappuccino was more bitter than the oat latte so the latte was my preferred drink. Milkwood breakfast & Breakfast bun - both dishes were delectable. They were cooked and seasoned well, not overly salty or bland. Personally, I really enjoyed their hash browns which were made of layers of thinly sliced potatoes. They were fried to a perfect crispiness on the outside. To our surprise, their black pudding tasted great, without the sickly taste like most breakfast restaurants. Overall, the entire dining experience was delightful. The service was quick and friendly, the food lived up to my expectations and even better, the prices were a bargain! Great value for money. Highly recommended.

Here on holiday we were so pleased to get to try Milkwood. It was the perfect quiet, relaxing dinner we were looking for away from the hustle and bustle of downtown. We were able to enjoy multiple things on the menu on their outdoor tables which also made for good people watching. I loved the small plates concept so we didn’t feel locked in to any one or two dishes; while everything was fab, our favorites were the ox cheek donut, chicken thighs, and pork collar (I could have eaten the pickled veg all night). Service was impeccable and a huge thank you to the staff who kept shuffling back and forth to the kitchen as we ordered more and more...and more. It’s that good, and unique; gems like this don’t come along often, I’m only disappointed we didn’t leave room for dessert.

Lovely cafe in the heart of Pontcanna. Tasty food and reasonable prices. Meat breakfast was a bit greasy and too many fries with burger. Lovely poached eggs.

This is some of the best food that we have eaten for a while. The menu is excellent and the specials board offers very interesting additional options. The staff are super chatty and also knowledgable about the menu and food origins. As some people have mentioned in other reviews, it is priced for the Pontcanna location but the quality deserves the cost and the portions are considerable. We finished with bara brith, brownies and coffee, which were also fantastic. Great for sweets and savouries, lovely location and fabulous people - what more is there to ask for?

Gorgeous brunch. We'd booked but our booking hadn't been recorded - however they managed to find a table for us. Loved the food and service, only criticism is the judgement I felt when using the toilet facilities about how much loo roll I need. 😅

Probably the best brunch I've had in Cardiff. The breakfast bun was incredible, loved the cockles, bacon and laver bread too. The house white tasted great and the service was super friendly. Can't wait to return

This is a really lovely little cafe, you can tell everything is made from scratch with fresh ingredients. The place is really nicely decorated, the staff are attentive and couldn’t fault service. I asked for no eggs on my veggie breakfast and they swapped it for avo without any issue. The hash browns are amazing!

Food was deliciously prepared. The staff were so friendly. The venue was thoughtfully decorated. And it was dog friendly which was a nice feature! Highly recommended. Oh and these are the best hashbrowns I’ve ever had. Shatteringly crispy!

Really nice cafe with plenty of buzz and friendly staff. It was busy when I went but managed to get a seat. There is outside seating should the weather in Cardiff be kind to you. I had the granola with fruits and yoghurt and an americano. Yum!

Delicious breakfast. Would highly recommend booking regardless of day or time. Fortunately the staff managed to fit us in. The breakfast is great not too filling. The main event are the hash browns, these have got to be the best in Cardiff. Even though it’s small you don’t feel cramped.

A fantastic busy little brunch spot in Pontcanna. A really creative menu featuring a good split of vegetarian and meat dishes. Choose from lighter dishes like waffles and granola, full breakfasts, or breakfast buns and tacos, plus cocktails and coffees. All the ingredients are high quality, well cooked and served with a smile. Highly recommended.

Visited Cardiff for a few days and this place was definitely one of the highlights of the trip. The best huevos rancheros I’ve had in the UK. Would recommend!

Went here for brunch, was greeted by very friendly staff. Had a fantastic coffee and ordered food. Food arrived quickly and proceeded to have the nicest full English I’ve ever had. Highly recommend!!

Got them to make me a Full Welsh Breakfast (bacon, sausage, egg, cockles, lavabread) Was utterly awesome. I hope they actually add this onto their menu because as far as I can tell nowhere in Cardiff does it anymore. Would highly recommend going there.

When we arrived the place was packed and it was easy to see why! The breakfast was one of the best I’ve had, especially the hash browns! We’d ordered the vegan bhaji and it was a little spicy but wasn’t named on the menu as such. However this was no problem, the server apologised and gave us two coffees on the house which was greatly appreciated. The staff were lovely and very accommodating. Great experience!

First time at Milkwood for brunch. 2 adults and 2 kids. Menu is amazing..order anything and you'll be delighted. The sausage bun and the waffles in particular were outstanding..also a special mention for the hash browns! Only minor quibble was the eggs were missed off one of our dishes, but it was dealt with, no bother.

Went out for a lovely breakfast at #Milkwood. Lovely to catch up with my beautiful friend after soooo many weeks. Brekkie was delish. Sourdough with smashed avocado, a red & yellow pepper salsa, crumbled feta + a poached egg. 😋

Popped in for a Friday catch up with friends. Warm welcome, sat upstairs which has a different vibe but beautifully done. Very comfy chairs!!! Table service, very efficient. Coffee was delicious as was my food - waffles with fruit, yoghurt and maple syrup. Always a great place to visit.

Loved it. Sitting in the window upstairs, we had a delightful lunch. Great options to choose from and we had the Welsh rarebit (special) and the steak & eggs. Both absolutely excellent!

It's cliche but 5 stars really doesn't do Milkwood justice. Outstanding food made with locally sourced ingredients. The staff absolutely nailed the hospitality touch. Just enough that if we were to want for anything they are there but not overbearing. And then to top it all off their little garden out the back was quaint and comfortable. It felt like we were sat in a friends garden having breakfast. Thank you Milkwood ❤️

Absolutely stunning breakfast. The chicken and waffles were so tasty, the coffee was brilliant and the whole vibe is very chilled.

Had a lovely lunch that was very reasonably priced. The beans and peas on the trout dish were particularly tasty. Good service and wine too.

The food is delicious, simple and perfectly cooked/prepared. And make sense! Small but spacious restaurant. Service was good, too. Prices are normal but let me tell you; it makes you feel you want to pay more! Well done. Love to go back again!

The staff are super friendly and really accommodating but the was food kind of a let down. We ordered the bacon, lavabread and cockles but it was so soggy that the bread it was served on was just wet. I was super excited to see this on a menu as it’s pretty rare to see but yeah was quite disappointed. My drink of iced tea was pretty bland as-well. The skinny chips was nice. It’s quite pricey for what you get. This is just my opinion though, I can see the place was popular so worth checking out!
